As Markus Frei wanted to say, the 2.0 version already support 64k rows.

I am working on the localization of OOo in Italian and I would really like
to be able to have both UIs so that I can check how certain menu items have
been translated.
Since I use OOo for work, I am not really happy to switch permanently to the
Italian version.

Is there a simple way to achieve the double user interface?

In OOo 2.0 you can, in OOo 1.1 you would have to install it twice.

In Tools->Option->Language settings-->Languages-->User interface, you
can choose the language.

The available languages have a blue check mark and a superscript ABC.

You can download OOo 2.0 language packs here:

In OpenOffice.org 1.1 you can't do that, but in OOo 2.0 you can.
It's just to install the program, then add the language packs you desire.
The User interface language may be changed from the option:
Tools-->Options-->Language Settings-->Languages-->User Interface.

   * You could update to OOo 1.1.5, which can read .odt files (right,

   * He could save his files in .sxw format (but this might have the
same problem as the above option)
   * You could both save your files as .pdf files, and use Acrobat

Can anyone think of any others?

Yes, a OOo viewer wich he can use to view the .odt (but not to edit).

In OOo you use page breaks instead of section brakes.

You can add the page break with the menu Insert-->Manual break-->Page break

to use it to strip out unnecessary paragraph breaks (carriage
returns), which can easily be done using 'Find and Replace' with most
wordprocessors. However I could not find a way to get Open Office to
search for paragraph breaks. I tried Regular Expressions but the list
in Help does not include paragraph breaks - and using the standard
Regular Expression for a paragraph break (/r) did not work (it simply
found the letter 'r'.
Am I missing something, or is this part of Open Office as limited as
it appears? (Compare it with WordPerfect which allows all kinds of
things to be searched for and replaced.)
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Yours,
Alasdair Beal

FAQ item, see
http://documentation.openoffice.org/faqs/word_processing/016.html

The shortcoming with this is that it only removes paragraph breaks, not
line breaks, which are a different character. It doesn't rewrap text
which is what I understand the OP wants to achieve.

The list of regular expressions in OOo Help doesn't address that "line
break"/rewrap situation.

Line break/rewrap: "\n"...
___
asd (paragraph break)
sada (line break)
foo
fa
bee
___ ---> Find and replace with regular expressions (find: "\n" replace
with: "#"

asd
sada#foo#fa#
bee
___

To be honest I would recommend that using a proper HTML editor would
be better in this instance. Whilst you can save as html from OOo, I do
not imagine the developers are expecting it to be a full blown HTML
editor as such.
Open Source editors (such as nvu - http://www.nvu.com) would be my suggestion.
I've to agreed with Paul.
The HTML editor of OOO is intended just to you be able to export the

It's not intended to be a HTML editor fully featured.

No Bruce, it happens sometimes with other styles. This is an old issue

I appreciate your experience. It can be true to OOo 1.1.x, but it is not

Every new version or snapshot of OOo creates a brand new profile. Why? I
have to redo all my settings and preferences every time.
I realize the snapshots are for testing, but still... :-(
Also, why does every version or snapshot of OOo create a separate
installation directory (\OpenOffice.org 1.9.77\)?
At this stage (near 2.0), it seems OOo should be able to *update* the
installation and profile data.

It shouldn't, as I said. It updates from one version to another, like
from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4, but 1.9.74 and 1.9.77 are intended to be *the same*
version.
These are developer builds. If you don't like the way it's you can keep
using the stable builds, like 1.1.4.

No. It isn't beta yet. This "update" won't exist in a real
instalation, i.e., the purpose is to verify if it creates a new
profile without any kind of problem.

So at almost 2.0 OOo still isn't confident it can create a new profile
reliably? Mozilla has been doing this since *way+ before even 1.0. This
just confirms my impression that OOo has still not leaned the lessons
mozilla has been demonstrating to the open source community, namely
usability and simplicity for the *user*.

Update is a thing diferent, so may occur some bugs just because of it.
Also it still chaanging a lot of things.

The installation folder should contain no settings files, so a simple
deletion of all files in \OOo\ just before installation should suffice.

As far as the profile is concerned, there should be relatively few
changes at this stage, and when they do occur, the programmer should be
required to include a migration module. I have never even heard of this
being a problem in 3+ years of mozilla development. :-\

Don't joke guy. When installing development versions of Mozilla they say
to you uninstall the older version and delete the profile. One of the
first smoke testes of Mozilla is *"to create a new profile"*. Also
Mozilla, since the begin, changed more than once the way the profiles
are created. They also changed the profiles folder. Mozilla says that
you have to create new profiles when installing a major version, because
may there to be incompatibilities. This happened with me while playing
with firefox some time ago. After all, some plugins for firefox and
mozilla don't work with your profile if it is so old.

..."mozilla development"... How many nightly builds of Mozilla have you
used in your life? Check my headers, look at the "User agent" info, do
you see I am using a nightly build of Thunderbird? (look at the data of
release and look for the data of the last oficial release of TB).
Some of the nightly builds of TB I used were impratical to use because
they hadn't a complete UI (when they changed it, it last something
around a week)!

Do you use the 'development versions' of Mozilla and never noticed
anything strange? Or do you wanna compare a development version with
stable ones (like Mozilla 1.7.4 to 1.7.5)?

Try a mozilla nightly build of, lets say, today. I hope it doesn't crash
either require a larger amount of memory either you got any troubles
with javascript either...
