I am assuming you are using some version of Windows.

RevoUninstaller, which has a free version for individuals, will almost
always do an uninstall even when the Microsoft one won't do it properly.

After you run that then use the free version of Eusing Free Registry
Cleaner to clean out the registry to delete associations that are no longer
valid. (I've used other registry cleaners several times, but this one found
pre v1 and v1.5 Firefox entries that were still there!)

For Firefox go to the menu Tools > Options > Main tab and in the first
section labeled "Startup" you can set the page you want to see when you
start Firefox.

Good luck, but as was said, you should try it from the reliable source and
ask for help when you need it.

Warmest Regards,

Allen

In all of the following, I'm assuming that you got the actual
OpenOffice.org program by downloading from www.openoffice.org (note --
there are unfortunately other similarly-named websites that are scams or
otherwise unreliable).

I have no idea how you managed to get where you are, but -- first things
first. If you haven't made so many manual changes that it won't work
any more, you can try doing a normal uninstall in whatever form your
operating system requires. For example, in Windows systems you need to
turn off the Quickstarter (if it's in your taskbar), then use the
Add/Remove Programs capability. If you can't do that, your best bet is
to reinstall -- partway through that, it will give you options to repair
or remove OOo, and if Remove doesn't work, try Repair and then either go
through installation again and use Remove, or use the OS uninstall
process described above.

There is no "Open Office start.htm" on my system (Vista Home Premium,
OOo 3.1.1, and I use Firefox and Thunderbird), nor is there normally any
specific connection between Firefox and OOo. Maybe you created a custom
home page, or somehow identified that page as your search engine? Check
your Firefox installation under Tools > Options and see if there's
anything there about OOo. If this doesn't give you a solution, you'll
need to tell us anything you can about where that file is and how you
got it.

Now, about all those "many problems" -- I can't see any other
communications from you about them, but chances are that if you'd asked,
we'd have been glad to help you resolve them. Care to fill us in now?

As others said, you didn't mention your operating system, so I assume
that it is Ubuntu and that you installed OpenOffice.org 3.1.0 from the
repositories. In that case, this should do the trick:

sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org

I am assuming that you're using one version of Windows. :)

I have only a German version of Windows, but you should be able to
locate something like "system settings". Please go there, to the
submenu "software" and choose "uninstall" for OpenOffice.org. Please
make sure, that you have the original install packet for OOo, since
OpenOffice.org needs those files to uninstall the software.

I hope, this helps.

Hi there everyone at the Open Office Team/crew
if you can pass this around it would be most appreceated to those whom receive

I am Robbie Kleij

A little introduction to Robbie Kleij
I have a web domain name www.treezone.co.nz
where I assist computer newbies get ahead by overcomming the "need to know

I am presently researching and developing a eco-viable and eco-friendly

I download the program "Wise Registry Cleaner 3" and "Wise Disk Cleaner 3"

both of which I'm considering good programs as their functionality does what it
claims.

With running these two programs I have found another flaw with the Windows

It shouldn't be in your "My Documents" folder, unless that's where you
downloaded it too. That's the package that you double click on, to
start the installation. If it is installed, there should be an
OpenOffice.org folder and icons in your Start menu. If it's not there,
it's not installed. If it is there, you can uninstall it the same way

Actually, the assumption is wrong in this case. Since the OS X

reason different versions can not coexist. They are going to have
different names, unless you rename them. If you did rename them to

significant bugs, in which case it is nice to have a backup plan. It
is officially recommended to not rely upon a beta version.

Hello Bob,

If you update from an OpenOffice.org 1.x version to a 2.x version, the new
version will not touch in any way the old one, but will install itself and
all its libraries etc. next to it.
I don't know how to help you with uninstalling on Windows, but you can go
ahead with a clean installation of a recent (2.3.x) version.

windows.

You haven't told us which OS (Operating System - eg. Linux, Mac,
Solaris, Windows, etc.) you are using, but your email header suggests
that it is some flavor of Windows. In which case you uninstall the same
way as any other Windows software. Go to the Windows "Control Panel" and
use the "Add and Remove Programs" option. Make sure that the
"Quickstarter" (icon in the task bar tray) is closed, before you start
the uninstall process.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

To uninstall dictionaries for OpenOffice.org on a Mac:
You'll find them under Libraries > Application Support > OpenOffice x.x >
user > wordbook
• You can trash the ones you don't need
• You can edit (in TextEdit or something alike) the dictionay.lst: put a #
sign before the dictionaries, thesauruses and hyphenation rulers that you
don't want to use (or simply erase those lines).

Hi,
I have uploaded Open Office (Mac version - Neo Office) on my MacBook.
It also seems I have clicked on a proposal for automatically
installing Microsoft Office, which I did not want to do.
Now this is a demo version, but I would like to get rid of it,
because it interferes when I want to print files, such as documents
sent in with incoming messages.
How do I get rid of that Microsoft thing ?
Any idea ?

Hi Denis,

I like NeoOffice and use and support it, but I should tell you before someone
else does that NeoOffice is NOT OOo, even though it is hugely influenced by it.
The official release of OOo for Mac OS X runs under X11. A version that runs
directly in the Mac OS (called Aqua) is in the alpha stage and is on the
openoffice.org website available for download and testing.
I like the look of it and look forward to a beta and eventually release, but it
is still pretty flawed for regular use.

As for your Mac/Microsoft woes, MS Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive comes
preinstalled with new Macs and at least on my machines was the initial default
to open *.doc, *.xls, and *.ppt files. I think uninstalling it is a simple
matter of removing the program folder from your Applications directory. Macs
are smart--when the MS Office programs are gone it will choose another office
suite program, probably something from the trial version of iWork08, as the
default file association.

Changing these associations are easy. Let say you want files of the form *.doc
to open with OpenOffice (or NeoOffice). Pick any *.doc file you have,
Command-click it, and pick Get Info. In the file information dialog box you
will see not only a drop down list that lets you pick whatever program you
choose to open that file, but a button that lets you change the file
association for ALL files of the form *.doc. Click that, follow the
instructions and when you are done your Mac will use OpenOffice (or NeoOffice)
by default to open documents with that extension when you download them from
email or whatever. Note that if you can't see the file extension in the file
name, you will need to clear the Hide Extension box in the Get Info dialog. You
can follow the same procedure for the spreadsheet and presentation file types
too.

This is sort of OT for the list and I have rambled on. If you want a clearer
and more official explanation, search the Mac help system from the Help menu
when you are in Finder should help.

I have had another complete freeze by OpenOffice
OpenOffice_org-2.2-8.1.x86_64

KDE is frozen sollid. I can ssh to the frozen system from another one,
but only a reboot helps. I wanted to reinstall the older OpenOffice
2.0.0.4 from OpenSUSE.

Looking on the repo, I saw a OpenOffice_org-2.2-9.1.x86_64 version at:
http://software.opensuse.org/download/OpenOffice.org/SUSE_Linux_10.1/x86_64/

why that?

Is it a newer version? I tried it and got dependency errors:

~: # rpm -ihv OpenOffice_org-2.2-9.1.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libdb-4.3.so()(64bit) is needed by OpenOffice_org-2.2-9.1.x86_64
libneon.so.24()(64bit) is needed by OpenOffice_org-2.2-9.1.x86_64
libpython2.4.so.1.0()(64bit) is needed by OpenOffice_org-2.2-9.1.x86_64

What is that all about? Should/can it be installed on OpenSUSE 10.2 at
all?

Thanx James. I recall that with rpm the package name could be found and
then un-installed with rpm --... As far as I can recall, all related
files will then also be removed, which were installed with the rpm.

What I got now is:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc> rpm -qa|grep OpenOffice
OpenOffice_org-templates-labels-a4-1.0-3.1
OpenOffice_org-Quickstarter-1.0-513.1
OpenOffice_org-2.2-8.1

OpenOffice_org-galleries-2.2-8.1
OpenOffice_org-templates-labels-letter-1.0-3.1
OpenOffice_org-en-GB-2.2-8.1
OpenOffice_org-templates-de-2.0.4-10
OpenOffice_org-kde-2.2-8.1
OpenOffice_org-templates-en-2.0.4-10

The templates-labels-a4-1.0-3.1,
templates-presentation-layouts-2.0.4-10,
templates-labels-letter-1.0-3.1, templates-de-2.0.4-10,
templates-en-2.0.4-10 may all come from the PrOOo-Box DVD I also
installed before.
(http://www.prooo-box.org/ - all OOo Program languages are on the DVD,
but the installation is in German - a Torrent can be found at
http://ooodev.org:6969/torrents/OOo_2.2.0-1_DVD_prooo-box_allplatforms_de.iso.torrent?info_hash=c01b0ff11b0ad5b917024f50b724779b30c95c97)

Installing it I used: rpm -Uhv *.rpm.
It found the first one to install and then went on to the next one as
needed in sequence (it started with
"openoffice.org-core08-2.2.0-9134.i586.rpm" i think).

In German there is an neat Installations Handbook at:
http://de.openoffice.org/doc/setupguide/2.0/installations_handbuch.pdf,
but does not go into de-installation. I have not found an English
version yet.

Is there a way to now un-install all "OpenOffice_org-2.2-8.1" in one go?
This installed RPM for this x86_64 is one file, but the i586 files must
all be installed in sequence, thus also un-installed in sequence I take
it. I removed all these OOo files I saw with smart. It did not see all
the templates etc. I think rpm -e ..??.. should work better.

2.0.4 (Build 17) and installed via Terminal (Shell - Konsole) with rpm
-i the latest stable OOo 2.2.0

OOo Writer crashes every time I try to "Save as" a read only document
with another name. The crash is so severe, that KDE (3.5.6 Release 64.1)
freezes completely. Only the mouse works. The Keyboard is dead. I can
only shut down the system if I log in with ssh from another system. The
ssh works perfectly well to the system where OOo crashed. Killing OOo
PID's do not have any effect. I have to reboot the system via ssh. After
a lot of file system checking and rollback of the reiser and ext3 file
systems, the new startup seems ok.

I now want to clean OpenSUSE 10.2 from all OOo packages and templates
etc., and reinstall a clean OOo 2.2 to test its stability on my system.
How can I ensure that an uninstall of all the OOo rpm's (2.2 and 2.0
remnants if there are any left) and related rpm's is done cleanly, so
that no apps/dependencies may influence a clean install of OOo 2.2?

[users] uninstalling Open Office

2007-01-12 Thread Carol
I used add or remove programs to uninstall the program, but the installation
files are still in the computer. Will just sending to recycle get rid of them
or how do I uninstall them?

THANK YOU !
I have just used the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, and
successfully installed the latest stable version of Open Office.

Have you got something called the Quickstarter running? If so, you need to stop
it before you can delete the old OpenOffice.
To check if it's running, look carefully at all the icons in the System Tray
(bottom right of the screen). If there's one that is grey with two flying birds
on it (like a kid's picture of gulls) that's Quickstarter. To stop it running,
*right* click on the icon and then click on "Exit Quickstarter". Now try the
deletion again.

2.0.3 will install in a different folder from 1.1.5. But as far
as JRE is concerned, you can tell OOo where the JRE folder is.
After installing 2.0.3, start OOo. Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org >
Java. The program will run for a period of time. It may or may not
find the JRE folder. If it does not, click the Add button and browse
to D:/Java/jre.It should then list your JRE in the window.
Then close OOo and the quickstarter in the system tray (next to the
clock). The quickstarter icon has a blue and white background with
sea gulls.

Where does OpenOffice expect to find the jre exe?

installation is registered. Everything else seems to function on my PC, but I
can't get your Word Processor to uninstall.

Have you closed the OOo quickstarter icon in your taskbar tray before
starting the uninstall process? If not, right click on the icon and
select "Exit Quickstarter" from the pop-up menu. I don't know why the
uninstaller doesn't close this automatically, but it seems to be the
most common cause of your problem.

Just as a matter interest, why do wish to remove OOo? It is free and
will coexist without interfering with any other office (word processor)
software you may wish to try.

Most if not all programs should be removed using the control panel tool
"add/remove programs".

Microsoft do not release information about the internal storage
method of the file format .DOC. Consequently OO.o's filter that imports
.DOC files is not perfect. Having said that each version of OO.o is
better than the last, the most recent version of OO.o is 2.0.3. What
will geerally not work at all is VB macros.

A second reason that a file may look different is that each program can
present information differently. This is a decision made by programmers
and the teams above that level. Though very similar in presentation Word
and OO.o do not present information identically.

What issues?
How have you gone about solving them?
Have you read any manuals about the differences between Word and OO.o?
Online support is quite extensive, both on this list and in the
documentation section of the web site.
http://documentation.openoffice.org/

Writing an OO.o document can require you unlearn some bad habits that
Word gets you into. Taking the time to do so can increase your
productivity. As a for instance; most Word users do not seperate content
from design as they are authoring a document.

> I'd like it off my PC and I'd like to ratain all of the MSWord files
> that it has converted with out my permission.

Removing any program should not remove any files stored in My Documents
or on your backup device... EVER.

No Word files have been "converted without your permission" at all.
Despite your frustration i can advise you that this statement is
incorrect on two counts:

Each file type is assigned a default program, which opens the file, by
Microsoft Windows (not OO.o). Thus web pages will usually open by
default in Internet Explorer. Pictures will open in a picture viewing
program or editor, whichever is set as the default. Thus you may find
.JPG images open in Paint, .GIF images open in Internet Explorer, and
.SVG images in Inkscape by default. Microsoft Windows, the Operating
System, not any given program is responsible for deciding which program
opens which file type.

Secondly during the install process you probably gave permission for all
Word, Excel, and Powerpoint file to open "By Default" in OO.o. It is a
simple matter to reset this Windows setting. I beleive once you have
done so, your frustrations will be greatly reduced and you will see no
need to remove OO.o at all.

___To reset the default program___
DISCLAIMER - The following is from memory and may not be 100% accurate.
STEP 1
IF you have Windows XP simply right click on any .DOC file
  OR
For Windows98 or WindowsME hold shift and right click on any .DOC file
STEP 2
Select "Open With..." from the pop up menu. If the list is only 3 or 4
entries long you probably moved the mouse while right clicking.
STEP 3
Select the program you would like to open the file with from the list,
in your case Microsoft Word.
STEP 4
Look for a checkbox in the bottom left corner of the dialogue box that
reads something like "Use this program to open all files of this type"
and check it (click in it).
STEP 5
Click OK

> Please advise,

Certainly...
Do not uninstall OO.o immediately for several reasons.

1. If you thought going from Microsoft Word to OO.o was a stretch. Wait
until you see the new Microsoft Word version12 to be released soonish.
There are far more presentational similarities between OO.o and your
exististing Word than between Word 2003 and Word 12. OpenOffice and Word
can happily coexist side by side on your computer.

2. If you saved any files at all using OO.o's native file type then you
will need OO.o to read these files and possibly to convert them.

3. Microsoft Office does not have any equivalent to the "Draw" part of
OO.o

4. Many governments, states and cities are beginning to specify ODF
formatted files because you are not tied into a single
Operating System or an expensive Office Suite available only from one
supplier. Over the past year especially much press has been given to the
very public, at times very caustic debate in the Commonwealth of

What have you tried as far as uninstalling it? And what operating system
are you using? If you're using Windows, the normal way is to click
Start, then Settings, then Control Panel, then add or remove programs.
Have you tried that?

One additional piece of information -- you can't have OOo Quickstarter
running. This would be an icon in the lower right part of the screen,
near the clock. If it is running, then right click on the icon, and
select Exit Quickstarter. Then you should be able to uninstall.

The program has made my Resume, produced in MSWord, unusable, and I have encountered nothing but problems with everything I've tried to do since this program was installed on my PC.

It was installed so I could convert something or a friend who knows nothing about PCs and has caused me issue after issue for the last 3 months.

I'd like it off my PC and I'd like to ratain all of the MSWord files that it has converted with out my permission.

The only way that files would be converted from MS Word to OOo would be
if you: (a) opened them in OOo; (b) did a File > Save As, and saved them
as OOo formats (.odt for text documents for example); and then (c)
deleted the original MS Word file.

I'm guessing that it is unlikely that you did the above three steps,
thus I can't imagine that your documents have been "converted". They
should open just fine from MS Word. If you can't open them from within
MS Word, then please get back to this list with specifics of what
happens when you try, and maybe we can help determine what is going on.

Install or uninstall?

Install: Drag OpenOffice.org 2.0 item to the Applications
folder after double clicking on downloaded OpenOffice.org disk image
file (.dmg) and waiting for the system to open it.
Click on OpenOffice.org 2.0 and answer the question on the use of
system wide fonts and reading through the introduction dialog screen.

Uninstall: Drag OpenOffice.org 2.0 item to trash.
Open Library -> Application Support and drag
OpenOffice.org 2.0 folder to trash.
Empty trash.

If you created any OpenOffice.org specific documents, you will
have to save them in a different format before uninstalling
OpenOffice.org.

[users] File associations - WAS RE: [users] Uninstalling Openoffice

2006-02-06 Thread rmilby
As far as I know, you should not have to go to the registry to reassert
file associations. I have never heard of that, too much chance of
messing things up.

Open up Windows Explorer
Go to TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS

In one of the tabs is FILE TYPES

>From there you can change the file associations to whatever program you
wish.
Just search for the file extension within the list and change it
accordingly.

You do not have to uninstall anything, delete anything or risk messing
up your registry.
This works on 98, and XP and 2000 (user side - never tested server side)
I can even change programs to something other than what the server would
like to me open a program with.

Since I think ME was a blight, I have never cared if it worked. Nothing
else worked on ME anyway.

All that is going to happen is that the associations currently existing
between your files and OpenOffice.org, will cease to exist. I don't

MS Windows will reassert the original association between MS Word and
Excel,
but the files will be unharmed.

P.S. If you wanted to get rid of the associations between OO.org and
the MS
Word and MS Excel, you would need to go into the registry and tackle it
there. I could give you details except I'm not currently on my MS
Windows PC
at the moment, and I don't remember the exact locations of the
association
keys. Sorry about that. :-)

Note taht when you installed OOo it gave you the option to assign
OpenOffice.org as the default for those documents, but you have to select
this yourself. However this should help :

You can safely delete the folder if the program has been uninstalled.
Have a look at : http://user-faq.openoffice.org/faq/ar01s04.html
regarding how to reset your file associations (so that .doc files open
in word).

i want to uninstall openoffice.org 2 from my computer. I have uninstalled it on

think automatically appeared there) - is not a shortcut. It has a couple of
'install' folders in it, but I cant find a way to uninstall it. If I delete or
send to recycle bin, the openoffice.org is still being used for what used to be
'word' documents.

Or rpm -e `rpm -qa|grep openoffice`

Hi Jim, if you want to uninstall from RPM:
1. Use the Add/remove applications. Search for openoffice. And click them all.
2. or Use the CLI:
rpm -qa | grep openoffice
rpm -e openoffice rpm (list all the rpm resulted from the above command)

Further to this, I took a blind leap and just tried to reinstall OO from

That file, openofficeorg1995.msi, is in my 1.9.95 installation
zip file. I also have it in the folder created when I unzipped
the 1.9.95 zip file.

If you still have yours you should be already have that file.
