[ovirt-users] oVirt engine installation

2024-06-13 Thread andremi001
Hi,
I'm trying to deploy oVirt engine self hosted, from my Centos 9 stream node,
but when I try to run the deploy I always got the error:
"FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg": "Failed to download metadata for repo
'centos-ceph-pacific': Cannot prepare internal mirrorlist: No URLs in
mirrorlist", "rc": 1, "results": []}"
I thinks it is correlated with the end of life of Centos 8 stream.
How can I fix it?

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine certificate renewal

2024-01-13 Thread bill . hong
Hi,

I'm running ovirt Version 4.5.3.2-1.el8 with 1 + 3 nodes setup.
Currently i'm encountering this issue of ovirt-engine portal certificate which
has already expired.
"PKIX path validation failed: java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException:
validity check failed "

I'm aware of the solution by running "engine-setup --offline" to renew the
cert. (https://yaohuablog.com/zh/ovirt-engine-upgrade-web-certificate)

However my host machine has this problem with the psql command issue whenever i
run the engine-backup.

[root@server1~]# engine-backup --mode=backup

Question :

1. Should i fix the psql error first ? If i just want to renew my certificate ,
will the psql error cause me to fail to renew the cert in the "engine-setup
--offline" command ?
2. What if after the "engine-setup --offline" failed to renew will my running
VM be affected and down ? will there be any recovery method later ? will the
reinstallation work on stand-alone machine ?

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine Web Console

2023-02-02 Thread mikejhathaway
Hi Everyone,

Newbie here.

Ive managed to get an oVirt host and Engine installed, what I am not able to do
is access the engine web console, is there a particular port I need to use??

Also, I am can only ping and access the engine host via SSH from hosts on the
same VLan, the default GW is set correctly on the engine VM, not sure what is
going on?

TIA

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine-appliance Location (Pre-Installation)

2022-09-29 Thread Matthew J Black
Hi All,

A couple of Qs:

During the `TASK [ovirt.ovirt.engine_setup : Install oVirt Engine package]`
stage of the Management Engine deployment, is this trying to install the
ovirt-engine-appliance, or something else?

When we do a pre-install of the ovirt-engine-appliance (ie dnf install
ovirt-engine-appliance) where is this installed too, so that we can enter this
information into the deployment script at the `Engine Appliance Image Path`
stage?

Cheers

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine Dashboard and information from Guest Agents

2022-08-25 Thread markeczzz
Hi!

Recently I had a situation where single node oVirt setup was without network
connection to shared storage.
After shared storage got reconnected, everything got up as it was supposed to,
but I can't get information from guest agents shown in ovirt Dashboard.

I tried restarting ovirt-engine and then 2 vm-s started sending info from
guest-agent, but rest of them not. Guest agent is running on those vm-s. I also
tried restarting those vm-s.
Hosted engine is up and healty, and ovirt-engine service is running and it
looks ok also.

I have this error in vdsm.log

The ovirt version is 4.4.5.11-1.

I follow the next commands for try resolve it.

# cp -a /etc/pki/ovirt-engine "/etc/pki/ovirt-engine.$(date "+%Y%m%d")"
# SUBJECT="$(openssl x509 -subject -noout -in
/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/certs/apache.cer | sed 's/subject= //')"
# /usr/share/ovirt-engine/bin/pki-enroll-pkcs12.sh --name=apache
--password="PASSWORD" --subject="${SUBJECT}"
# openssl pkcs12 -passin "pass:PASSWORD" -nokeys -in

/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/keys/apache.key.nopass

# chmod 0600 /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/keys/apache.key.nopass

But after restarting the issue is the same.

Any idea?

[ovirt-users] OVIRT Engine Restore from old Backup

2022-05-06 Thread Abe E
Hey All, I really dont like spamming the forums but the issues I am having keep
changing entirely.
I am at the point where I can get much closer to rebuilding my engine although
my hurtle currently is restoring.

When I restore using my most recent backup it is problematic

Currently I am restoring by:
clean engine install
engine-cleanup
engine-backup --mode=restore --file=ovirt-engine-backup-20220504011012.backup
--log=restore5.log
engine-setup

Comes up with alot of annoyances as the ID of the old hosted_storage and the
new one are mismatched in the GUI.
On top of that it is not allowing me to deploy the engine to the 2nd Gluster
(3rd one keeps deleting its glusters on reboot since 4.3 Upgrade).

Host 1 which runs the hosted engine is not showing as active or unlike, rather
it is unresponsive, when I tried to enroll certificates it finally accepted but
failed because it said its missing networks, once added it crashed the engine
and ha agent wouldnt come up. Now that I think of it, I could have removed the
extra networks from being required although it still doesnt benefit me here as
I am unable to deploy or reinstall the 2nd Gluster node and the first one will
not show its correct state as the host.

Should I just be deploying the DB, or is the full file backup fine? My issue
here is it takes long to redeploy so the trial an error of failing takes me
hours as my backup is from 4.5 engine even though my nodes are on 4.4 as 4.5
keeps causing the catastrophic failure of my whole cluster.

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine Deployment, Networking and Nested Virtualization with VMware Fusion 12.x

2022-04-29 Thread mail
Hello,

I'm just writing my experiences in case others have come across similar issues
or have a similar configuration.

I have a single PC, well iMac, home lab environment with VMware Fusion 12.x for
Virtualisation. I have tried to setup oVirt 4.5 as a self-hosted engine,
deployed on an oVirt 4.5.0 node VM (with nested virtualisation) and the engine
deployment fails at this point:

[ INFO ] TASK [ovirt.ovirt.hosted_engine_setup : Get local VM IP]
[ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"attempts": 90, "changed": true,
"cmd": "virsh -r net-dhcp-leases default | grep -i 00:16:3e:36:90:88 | awk '{
print $5 }' | cut -f1 -d'/'", "delta": "0:00:00.052065", "end": "2022-04-27
21:12:08.176323", "msg": "", "rc": 0, "start": "2022-04-27 21:12:08.124258",
"stderr": "", "stderr_lines": [], "stdout": "", "stdout_lines": []}

This seems to be the point where the oVirt Engine has gone though an initial
deployment and Ansible is trying to get the IP of the ovirt engine to resume
configuration and testing. I believe the VM is running on the oVirt node at
this point and there is a Linux bridge between the oVirt node and engine VM.
The oVirt node itself has two vNICs, one as the oVirt management network and a
second unconfigured NIC to be used for Gluster storage. I access oVirt nodes
and Cockpit via a "client" linux VM also on the oVirt management network.

It feels like it's this Linux bridge and networking which is not working
correctly and causing the deployment to fail. This could be due to the fact
that I'm using a virtualised NIC and while promiscuous mode and perhaps some
other features are sort-of supported, features needed for this kind of complex
networking are not. This is despite the network I'm using being an internal one
without the iMAC host connected. WAN connections for oVirt are via a NAT
gateway/firewall VM that has the LAN side on the oVirt management network and
the WAN side using a bridge with the hosts's NIC (wifi in my case).

I did get similar results when I tried to set up OpenStack Neutron Networking;
I could not get traffic to cross the Linux Bridge from one Compute Node VM to
another. There are a small handful of results of other people coming across
this same issue/error and many of them are also using nested Virtualisation
either in ESXi, VirtualBox etc

The Linux Bridge created by the oVirt engine deployment is (from Cockpit):
virbr0Bridge 52:54:00:8F:28:3A
Status
192.168.222.1/24, fe80:0:0:0:5054:ff:fe8f:283a/64,

IPv6

Bridge
Spanning tree protocol
Forward delay 2

I have actually seen traffic cross this bridge while watching the stats as the
engine was being deployed.

If anyone has experienced this problem before and is certain it is due to
having a virtualised network, then please let me know. Alternatively, if there
is a workaround, that would be great, otherwise I can do more troubleshooting
on request but it does feel like this is ultimately a problem related to the
platform I'm using - which would not be encountered in a production environment.

Thanks

2021-05-17 Thread Nick Polites
Hi All,

I am not sure if my original post is being reviewed before posting but trying
again in case it failed to send.

I tried logging in this morning to oVrit and see that all of my hosts are
unresponsive. I am seeing a connection refused error in the engine logs. I am
able to SSH and ping the host from the engine. Any help would be appreciated.

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine increase RAM and CPU

2021-02-19 Thread Vrgotic, Marko
Hi oVirt,

What is the cleanest way to increase the memory and cpu for SHE engine?

We have the Engine running on top of three HA hosts, so I guess the specs need
to be change on all three, while engine is down.

Is it done by editing the VM libvirt conf file or some other way?

Where do I allocate more RAM to JAVA for oVirt?

We are currently running 4.3.8 version.

Kindly awaiting your reply.

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine LDAP aaa - rfc2307bis issues

2020-11-23 Thread Jake R
Hi,

I have LDAP with rfc2307bis schema - I have posixGroup, with members
defined as FDNs under the member attribute.

Currently, if I login to oVirt via the AAA extension. then my groups are
not enumerated. The LDAP searches (recorded on the LDAP server) are:

 slapd[1503]: conn=7876 op=2 SRCH base="dc=example,dc=com" scope=2 deref=0
filter="(&(objectClass=posixGroup)(memberUid=jreynolds))"
 slapd[1503]: conn=7876 op=2 SRCH attr=entryUUID cn description
 slapd[1503]: conn=7871 op=2 SRCH base="dc=example,dc=com" scope=2 deref=0
filter="(&(|(objectClass=groupOfUniqueNames)(objectClass=posixGroup))(uniqueMember:uniqueMemberMatch:=cn=jreynolds,ou=users,dc=example,dc=com))"
 slapd[1503]: conn=7871 op=2 SRCH attr=entryUUID cn description

This returns no results, as the search needs to search for 'member'
attribute, with an FDN. The issue looks to be inherited from the
simple.properties file (regardless of if I use rfc2307, rfc2307-openldap
profile), with the line:

search.simple-resolve-groups-member.search-request.filter =
&${seq:simple_filterGroupObject}(${seq:simple_attrGroupMemberDN}=${seq:_simple_dn_encoded})

I can fix the issue by replacing "${seq:simple_attrGroupMemberDN}=" with
"member=", but this feels pretty hacky. I cannot find where this variable
is defined, nor how to change it. Is the correct way to do this to create a
new profile that overwrites the filter value? Or am I doing something
wrong? I don't think my LDAP schema is particularly unusual, as far as I'm
aware it complies with rfc2307bis spec.

Thanks,
Jake

[ovirt-users] oVirt - Engine - VM Reconstitute

2020-09-25 Thread Jeremey Wise
As expected... this is a learning curve. My three node cluster.. in an
attempt to learn how to do admin work on it, debug it... I have now
redeployed the engine and even added second one on a node in cluster.

But.

I now realize that my "production vms" are gone.

In the past, on a manual build with KVM + Gluster .. when I repaired a
damaged cluster I would just then browse to the xml file and import.

I think with oVirt, those days are gone. As the PostGres engine knows the
links to the disk / thin provision volumes / network / VM definition files.

##

Question:
1) Can someone point me to the manual on how to re-constitute a VM and
bring it back into oVirt where all "oVirt-engines" were redeployed. It is
only three or four VMs I typically care about (HA cluster and OCP ignition/
Ansible tower VM).
2) How do I make sure these core VMs are able to be reconstituted. Can I
create a dedicated volume where the VMs are full provisioned, and the path
structure is "human understandable".
3) I know that you can backup the engine. If I had been a smart person,
how does one backup and recover from this kind of situation.Does anyone
have any guides or good articles on this?

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine UI error: changing Storage Domain mount options

2020-06-24 Thread Jp
Hi,

I want to change the mount options to a Storage Domain that is already in use,
but got an error from the Ovirt Engine's UI, and the mount point option change
isn't getting applied.

What I tried:

1. Shutdown all VMs using Disks on Volume
2. Stopped storage Volume
3. Put storage Domain into Maintenance (so Storage -> Data Center -> select
Domain -> Maintenance button)
4. Entered mount point options via Storage -> Domain -> select Domain ->
Managed Domain -> "Mount Options" field
5. A pop-up in UI had same exact error as a Bug that had been fixed
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1273941)
6. Confirmed the "Mount Options" field had _actually_ kept my new mount point
option!
6. Took Domain out of Maintenance
7. Started Volume
8. Checked oVirt Nodes mount point on CLI but my new option isn't listed

Is there a way I can change the mount point options via CLI? To get around
this UI Bug ...

[ovirt-users] oVirt engine / node & snmp

2020-05-11 Thread Andrei Verovski
Hi,

oVirt node seems to run snmp by defeult, “service snmpd status” returns some
data.
I’m going to connect all servers to LibreNMS, and it requires custom snmp
options.
What options I should keep in oVirt node default nsmp.conf? Or I may just fully
overwrite this file with my own?

Please note my oVirt node installed manually on CentOS, I don’t use node DVD
image from oVirt project.

with best regards
Thanks in advance.

So my engine has gone down and I can't ssh into it either. If I try to log

What are my next steps?

btw - in this case ovirt-engine service status is "fine" when checking via
systemctl - not sure if it should reflect state "active (running)" when it is
working partially

[ovirt-users] OVirt Engine Server Died - Steps for Rebuilding the Ovirt Engine System

2019-12-20 Thread bob . franzke
Full disclosure here.I am not an Ovirt Expert. I am a network Engineer that
has been forced to take over sysadmin duties for a departed co-worker. I have
little experience with Ovirt so apologies up front for anything I say that
comes across as stupid or "RTM" questions. Normally I would do just that but I
am in a bind and am trying to figure this out quickly. We have an OVirt
installation setup that consists of 4 nodes and a server that hosts the
ovirt-engine all running CentOS 7. The server that hosts the engine has a pair
of failing hard drives and I need to replace the hardware ASAP. Need to outline
the steps needed to build a new server to serve as and replace the ovirt engine
server. I have backed up the entire /etc directory and the backups being done
nightly by the engine itself. I also backed up the iscsi info and took a
printout of all the disk arrangement . The disk has gotten so bad at this point
that the DB won't back up any longer. Get fatal:backup failed error when
trying to run the ovirt backup tool. Also the Ovirt management site is not
rendering and I am not sure why.

Is there anything else I need to make sure I backup in order to migrate the
engine from one server to another? Also, until I can get the engine running
again, is there any tool available to manage the VMs on the hosts themselves.
The VMs on the hosts are running but need a way to manage them if needed in
case something happens while the engine is being repaired. Any info on this as
well as what to backup and the steps to move the engine from one server to
another would be much much appreciated. Sorry I know this a real RTM type post
but I am in a bind and need a solution rather quickly. Thanks in advance.

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup

2019-09-03 Thread Rick A

Trying to get oVirt to use LDAP for user authentication. It seems to bind, but
when I test it (Login Flow and Search) before applying the settings, I get the
message below (I can confirm the credentials ARE valid). I also tried to set it
up manually and still get the same result. I'm using the same information on
Bugzilla and it works fine. I've seen similar threads here but without much
answers. Anyone have any good links or docs I can view to get this set up?

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine-appliance ova

2019-07-11 Thread jingjie . jiang
Hi,
Can someone tell me how to generate ovirt-engine-appliance ova file in
ovirt-engine-appliance-4.3-20190610.1.el7.x86_64.rpm?
I tried to import ovirt-engine-appliance
ova(ovirt-engine-appliance-4.3-20190610.1.el7.ova) from ovirt-engine, but I got
error as following:
Failed to load VM configuration from OVA file:
/var/tmp/ovirt-engine-appliance-4.2-20190121.1.el7.ova

I guess ovirt-engine-appliance-4.2-20190121.1.el7.ova has more than CentOS7.6.

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine/api/imagetransfers - Indefinitely locked snapshot image if transfer does not start within 2 minutes

2019-06-19 Thread Justin Willoughby
I've noticed an issue but I've not found any bugs related to this so it's not
clear if it's a bug and just not been reported or if I'm missing something.

It seems if using the ovirt-engine/api/imagetransfers call with a POST request
such as say download
is done and more then two minutes pass (where the the
ovirt-imageio-proxy/ovirt-imageio-daemon deletes the ticket), you can no longer
download the snapshot image. I think this part is normal, HOWEVER the snapshot
image remains locked indefinitely in this case. If the image starts
transferring/downloading within the 2 minutes where the
ovirt-imageio-proxy/ovirt-imageio-daemon ticket is valid, all is well and at
the end of the transfer the snapshot image is automatically unlocked.

[ovirt-users] oVirt engine/engine-setup with other port than default HTTPS 443 possible?

2019-06-12 Thread Dirk Rydvan
Hello,

in a home lab with only one puplic IPv4-Adress is the Port 443 a very precious
one.
The installation of oVirt 4.3 on a single node/host with bare metal installed
CentOS works well. (oVirt Cockpit and local installed engine added after
installation of Centos 7.6).

But it is more difficult to change the port from 443 to maybe 4443 the save the
port 443.
The change in:
- /etc/httpd/conf/conf.d/ssl.conf
- /var/lib/ovirt-engine/jboss_runtime/config/ovirt-engine.xml
and
- disable selinux
- add 4443 to public with firewall-cmd

It does not work... now I see is more difficult than I think before...
A port redirection at the edge route from :4443 to
:443 does also not work, because the links points all to the
standard https adress without a port number.
Is there a way to change the default port 443 of oVirt engine to a other port?

Many Thanks in advance!

[ovirt-users] Ovirt-engine self hostd

2019-04-19 Thread Dennis Perfors
Hi,

We have build Ovirt-engine self hosted. We have created 2 vlans 1 services and
1 student. This works good.

Services vlan 192.168.60.0/24 gateway ip 192.168.60.1 on this card
Student vlan 192.168.10.0/24 gateway ip 192.168.10.1 on this network card
Everything seems to be oke, but the probem is on the vlan.

On the node 192.168.60.3, there is no internet connection when we do yum update
-y

But there is no internet connection on the host. I cant do yum update -y or do
anything else.

[ovirt-users] ovirt engine VM (xfs on sda3) broken, how to fix image?

2018-12-21 Thread Mike Lykov

I have a 4.2.7 setup hyperconverged, two deployed VM Engine images and i
have 20-30 second network outage. After some pinging to start engine on
host 1, then 2, then again 1 Engine image stuck at

"Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)... _"

as here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1569827

I stop ha-agent, ha-broker on two hosts (to not trying to start Engine
VM), Stop VM via

vdsm-client VM destroy vmID="4f169ca9-1854-4e3f-ad57-24445ec08c79"
on both hosts, but i have a lock (lease file) anyway

Oh, lease are disappeared while i wrote he message now xfs_repair
output:

to be replayed.

in vdsm-client Host getVMList I do not see engine VM (get id from

And i want to remove lease by vdsm-client, i need an json file with

usage: vdsm-client Lease info [-h] [arg=value [arg=value ...]]
positional arguments:
arg=value lease: The lease to query
  JSON representation:
  {
  "lease": {
  "sd_id": "UUID",
  "lease_id": "UUID"
  }
  }

in all docs I not find any explains about sd_id and lease_id - where i
can get it?

see, for example:
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/vdsm/vdsm-client.html

without it I get:

Please, help me to fix that Engine VM image.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt Engine UI bug- cannot attache networks to hosts

2018-12-07 Thread Leo David
Hi Everyone,
Using self hosted-engine 4.2.7.5-1.el7 running on ovirt-node 4.2.7, i am
trying to attache hosts to a newlly created network for gluster/migration
traffic.
Oncei click on Networks->gluster-Hosts- Unattached, i get the following
error:

Uncaught exception occurred. Please try reloading the page. Details:
(TypeError) : M9(...) is null
Please have your administrator check the UI logs

So to make the cluster installation possible, i had to use ovirt 4.2.2 and
manually install ovirt-engine-appliance-4.2-20180626.1.el7 on the nodes
before deploying self-hosted engine ( version that has other problems,
like not being able to get dasboards in cloudforms/manageiq -
ovirt-engine-dwh is missing ).

Is it possible to:
1. upgrade actual hosted-engine version to the latest that has this module
properly installed ?
2. fix the latest ( upgraded ) version so i can attach hosts to networks ?
Thank you very much !

Leo

[ovirt-users] Ovirt-engine-ha cannot to see live status of Hosted Engine

2018-09-18 Thread asm
Good day for all.
I have some issues with Ovirt 4.2.6. But now the main this of it:
I have two Centos 7 Nodes with same config and last Ovirt 4.2.6 with
Hostedengine with disk on NFS storage.
Also some of virtual machines working good.
But, when HostedEngine running on one node (srv02.local) everything is fine.
After migrating to another node (srv00.local), i see that agent cannot to check
livelinness of HostedEngine. After few minutes HostedEngine going to reboot and
after some time i see some situation. After migration to another node
(srv00.local) all looks OK.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt engine General command validation failure.

2018-09-10 Thread Alex K
Hi All,

I have a ovirt 4.1.9 self hosted setup with 3 servers. As storage gluster
is used in replica 3.

I have at a cluster the following error, and this seems to have risen
following a routine update (software packages) of the servers.

When trying to delete a snapshot of a VM I get at GUI: General command
validation failure.

Engine logs the attached.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanx,
Alex

[ovirt-users] [ovirt-engine-api-model] Any solutions to add custom key/value pairs into entities?

2018-08-14 Thread Joey Ma
Hi all,

In my case, I need to add customized KVs into API model entities, such as
VM, Disk, Template and etc.

I looked through the API model documents and got some existing
Tag/Property/CustomProperty structs, all of which have limitations and can
not work it out.

Are there any solutions?

Thanks,
Joey

[ovirt-users] ovirt engine service needs restart after network connectivity is lost and reestablished

2018-08-10 Thread g . vasilopoulos
today our network administration did some upgrades on the networking equipment,
so the engine vlan went down for a while. Afterwards when it came back up 3
hosts was found as non responding, I couldn't see anything suspicious on the
hosts, the problem "fixed" itself when I restarted the ovirt-engine service on
the engine vm.
Another "strange" side effect is that gluster was in need of healing constantly
afterwards it did heal and desynch again almost immediately, whitch was "fixed"
by shutting down and starting the vm's who were up at the time of the network
outage..
I've seen this behaviour once more regarding the engine service, is this normal
behaviour (e.g. to make the admin check if everything is ok) or is there
something wrong ?

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine 4.1 with oVirt Node 4.2

2018-06-25 Thread stefanos
Hi,

I would like to know if oVirt 4.1 can manage 4.2 hosts just like RHVM does.

precisely, can oVirt 4.1 manage:
- an oVirt Node 4.2 with a cluster compatibility of 4.1?
- a CentOS host with 4.2 repo with a cluster compatibility of 4.1?

Thank you,

[ovirt-users] oVirt: engine backup

2018-05-22 Thread femi adegoke
Reading this:
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/self-hosted/chap-Backing_up_and_Restoring_an_EL-Based_Self-Hosted_Environment/
It says the node must be in maintenance mode.

I was having a discussion on IRC & they were using this (see link) to backup,
it makes no mention of maint mode
https://scottlinux.com/2015/08/20/create-daily-rhevm-backups/
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/797463

Question: must the node be in maint mode before engine is backed up?

You can check, on all hosts, /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/* .

[ovirt-users] ovirt engine frequently rebooting/changing host

2018-05-07 Thread Bernhard Dick

Hi,

currently I'm evaluating oVirt and I have three hosts installed within
nested KVM. They're sharing a gluster environment which has been
configured using the oVirt Node Wizards.
It seems to work quite well, but after some hours I get many status
update mails from the ovirt engine which are either going to EngineStop
or EngeineForceStop. Sometimes the host where the engine runs is
switched. After some of those reboots there is silence for some hours
before it is starting over. Can you tell me where I should look at to
fix that problem?

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt engine HA

2018-04-02 Thread Vincent Royer
Same thing, the engine in this case is "self-hosted", as in, it runs in a
VM hosted on the cluster that it is managing. I am a beginner here, but
from my understanding, each node is always checking on the health of the
engine VM. If the engine is missing (ie, the host running it has gone
down), then another available, healthy host will spawn up the engine and
you will regain access.

In my experience this has worked very reliably. I have 2 hosts, both are
"able" to run the engine VM. If I take one host down, I am not able to
load the engine GUI. But if I wait a few minutes, then I regain access,
and see that the engine is now running on the remaining healthy host.

Please note that the start of this section says:

"For databases managed by engine-setup this is performed
automatically, but non-managed databases (usually remote databases)
this needs to be done manually by administrators."

Is your database remote or managed manually, or local and managed by
engine-setup? If latter, it's enough to run 'engine-setup'.

Sorry, this is a bug in the documentation. The commands should be:

   su - postgres -c "scl enable rh-postgresql95 -- psql -d engine"
   postgres=# DROP FUNCTION IF EXISTS uuid_generate_v1();
   postgres=# CREATE EXTENSION "uuid-ossp";

Indeed.

The reason that this bug happened is that the release notes are (partially)
auto-generated, where this part is taken from the doc-text of the linked bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1515635

The text there is ok.

We should somehow make the resultant markdown mark such doc text as
pre-formatted,
to prevent it from replacing '--' with '–'. Adding Sandro for this.

Thanks for the report!

[ovirt-users] oVirt Engine 4.2 -> 4.2.1 Upgrade

2018-03-14 Thread Andrei Verovski
Hi !

After oVirt Engine 4.2 -> 4.2.1 Upgrade do I need to run these commands as
described in this article
https://www.ovirt.org/release/4.2.1/

su - postgres -c "scl enable rh-postgresql95 – psql -d engine"
postgres=# DROP FUNCTION IF EXISTS uuid_generate_v1();
postgres=# CREATE EXTENSION "uuid-ossp”;

BTW, this yelds error:
[root@node00 ~]# su - postgres -c "scl enable rh-postgresql95 – psql -d engine"
Unable to open /etc/scl/conf/–!

node00 is a dedicated PC with CentOS and oVirt Host Engine.

Thanks.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine add host failed

2018-03-14 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi,

I posted a patch with a proposed fix (https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/88999/).
Please open a bug so you can track the version the fix is included in.

Please attach to the bug vdsm.log, engine.log and server.log (If you had
several attempts to reinstall/remove-add the host please add the logs with
all the attempts).

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine add host failed

2018-03-14 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi,

Seems the communication with the host is slow and you get a timeout error.

Is there a chance you opened the SetupNetwoks dialog while installing the
host (it may slow down the host since it queries the host for lldp
information)?

Please try to re-install (or remove and re-add) the host (don't open the
setup network dialog during the installation).

More technically, there is a bug in the code -
Collecting and persisting the data from the host is done inside a
transaction.
Only the persisting should be done in a transaction.
According to the attached log seems the collection of the data from the
host finished successfully (was slow, but finished without a timeout), but
the persistence of the data fails since during the persistence the
transaction reached to the timeout.

Can you please file a bug in the bugzilla and attach the relevant logs
(engine.log, server.log and vdsm.log)

Thanks.
Alona.

They all look like the same bug in 3 different places. Please open a bug at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=ovirt-engine
and include your reproducer steps and your logs. Please set the "ovirt
team" to UX. Thanks!

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal-debuginfo package for 4.2?

2018-01-14 Thread Jayme
I managed to fix the error with HA broker and agent continually crashing.
I found that it was not a permissions problem on the path mentioned in the
log:

/var/run/vdsm/storage/248f46f0-d793-4581-9810-c9d965e2f286/14a20941-1b84-
4b82-be8f-ace38d7c037a/8582bdfc-ef54-47af-9f1e-f5b7ec1f1cf8

but this folder had wrong permissions:

_exports_hosted__engine/248f46f0-d793-4581-9810-c9d965e2f286/images/19f114a1-e1c3-41c5-9fcb-b6099612d012

That seems to have resolved the agent and broker problem. The UI error
when clicking network interfaces or snapshots for hosted engine VM still
appears to exist. Here is the ui log from that:

Perhaps not enough permissions?

Can you try reading it as user 'vdsm'? E.g.

su - vdsm
cp
/var/run/vdsm/storage/248f46f0-d793-4581-9810-c9d965e2f286/14a20941-1b84-4b82-be8f-ace38d7c037a/8582bdfc-ef54-47af-9f1e-f5b7ec1f1cf8

If agent/broker logs do not reveal this, the next step is usually checking
vdsm logs and/or system logs. Can you please check/share these? Thanks.

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal-debuginfo package for 4.2?

2018-01-14 Thread Jayme
First, apologies for all the posts to this list lately, I've been having a
heck of a time after 4.2 upgrade and you've been helpful, I appreciate
that.

Since 4.2 upgrade I'm experiencing a few problems that I'm trying to debug.

Current status is engine and all hosts are upgraded to 4.2, and cluster and
domain set to 4.2 compatibility. Hosted Engine VM is running and ui
accessible etc, all VMs on hosts are running but no HA service. Web UI is
giving a few errors when checking network and snapshots on the hosted
engine VM only, it doesn't give errors on any of the others VMs that I spot
checked.

1. HA-agent and HA-broker are continually crashing on all three hosts over
and over every few seconds. I sent an email to users list with more
details on this problem but unfortunately haven't heard anything back yet.
The general error in the logs seems to be:
VolumeDoesNotExist(leafUUID)#012VolumeDoesNotExist:
Volume does not exist: (u'8582bdfc-ef54-47af-9f1e-f5b7ec1f1cf8',) --
What? Volume doesn't exist, why not?

2. Error when clicking "network interfaces" in the web gui for the
hosted VM engine.

3. Similar to #2 above an error is given when clicking "snapshots" in the
web gui for the hosted engine VM.

The errors for #2 and #3 are generic "cannot read property 'a' of null".
I've read previous postings on ovirt-mailing list that suggest you can
install debug-info package to get a human readable error.. but this package
does not seem to be compatible with 4.2, it expects 4.1: Requires:
"ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal = 4.1.2.2-1.el7.centos" -- Perhaps this
package is no longer required? I do see some additional details in the
ui.log that I can post if helpful.

There is obviously something odd going on here with the hosted engine VM.
All three errors appear to related to a problem with it, although it is
indeed up and running. I'd really like to get HA broker and agent back up
and running, and fix these GUI errors related to hosted engine VM. All
three problems may be connected to one common issue?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I tried reproducing it just now and it installs correctly.
Here I have:
systemd.x86_64 219-42.el7_4.4
 @updates
systemd-python.x86_64 219-42.el7_4.4
 @updates
glibc.i686 2.17-196.el7_4.2
 @updates
glibc.x86_642.17-196.el7_4.2
 @updates
glibc-common.x86_64 2.17-196.el7_4.2
 @updates

Can you please ensure that the Centos @updates repo is correctly available
on your host?

2017-10-10 Thread Martin Perina
Hi,

most probably you are affected by [1], so could you please check
certificates on all your AD servers?
You can verify using following command:

  ovirt-engine-extensions-tool --log-level=FINEST aaa login-user
--user-name= --profile=

Thanks

Supposing you're using all the right parameters in ldapsearch command,
it seems that the user you were looking up is not a valid user in that
directory server.

Please check with someone that can access to AD and verify the status
of the user with ADSI Edit.

It's an AD?

Can you check if userPrincipalName of the user you're trying to use
for connecting contains the login name in the format of
u...@domain.fqdn?

I had issues with users that had userPrincipalName wrongly formatted.
You should find nicola.gent...@polito.it on that field.

You can check in this way:

ldapsearch -h domaincontroller.dom.it -b "dc=dom,dc=it" -D u...@dom.it
-W -x sAMAccountName=user_to_search userPrincipalName | grep
userPrincipalName

Hello Nicola,

i don't see anything strange in your setup. Can you check if DN in files

 /etc/ovirt-engine/aaa/polito.it*.properties

are written correctly?

Can you also check with a ldapsearch if there is something strange in
your LDAP entry? I found that some users were not logging in correctly
due to wrong fields in the ldap object.

If the engine VM is up, but the GUI is down, I think that either Apache or
Jboss is down. Apache is unlikely, so I would guess Jboss. To figure out why
Jboss is down look in /var/log/ovirt-engine/ at boot.log, and server.log, also
check out engine.log but the first two should tell you why Jboss is down.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt engine with different VM id

2017-08-31 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi,

you can remote the hosted engine storage domain from the engine as
well. It should also be re-imported.

We had cases where destroying the domain ended up with a locked SD,
but removing the SD and re-importing is the proper way here.

Best regards

PS: Re-adding the mailing list, we should really set a proper Reply-To header..

[ovirt-users] oVirt engine with different VM id

2017-08-31 Thread Misak Khachatryan
Hi,

Yesterday someone powered off our storage, and all my 3 hosts lose
their disks. After 2 days of recovering i managed to bring back
everything, except engine VM, which is online but not visible to
itself.

I did new deployment of VM, restored backup and started engine setup.
After manual database updates, my all VMs and hosts are OK now, but
engine. I have engine VM with different VM id running than in
database.

I've tried this with no luck.

engine=# update vm_static set vm_guid =
'75072b32-6f93-4c38-8f18-825004072c1a' where vm_guid =(select
vm_guid from vm_static where vm_name = 'HostedEngine');
ERROR: update or delete on table "vm_static" violates foreign key
constraint "fk_disk_vm_element_vm_static" on table "disk_vm_element"
DETAIL: Key (vm_guid)=(d81ccb53-2594-49db-b69a-04c73b504c59) is still
referenced from table "disk_vm_element".

Right now i've deployed engine on all 3 hosts but see this picture:

[root@virt3 ~]# hosted-engine --vm-status

You can have a look at /var/log/ovirt-engine/*.log.

Good luck,

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine service crash

2017-08-12 Thread Andrew Dent

Hi

I have a hosted-engine 4.1.2.2-1.el7.centos setup
The ovirt-engine service crashed and this is the result of querying the
status of the service.
Restarting the service works, but then about 10 minutes later while
using the GUI it will crash again.
I don't seem to need to restart apache or the webproxy services, though
if I do restart those two, the ovirt-engine service will still crash ~10
minutes later.
How can I fix this, and where to I look for more hints as to why this is
happening?

Redirecting to /bin/systemctl status ovirt-engine.service
● ovirt-engine.service - oVirt Engine
  Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ovirt-engine.service; enabled;
vendor preset: disabled)
  Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Sat 2017-08-12 21:01:52 AEST;
2min 14s ago
 Process: 2028
ExecStart=/usr/share/ovirt-engine/services/ovirt-engine/ovirt-engine.py
--redirect-output --systemd=notify $EXTRA_ARGS start (code=exited,
status=1/FAILURE)

Main PID: 2028 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Kind regards
