[videoblogging] Vloggercon=BarcampUSA?

2007-02-26 Thread Robyn

I'd like to revisit this discussion and come to some sort of a
conclusion. What are the Pros/Cons of making Vloggercon the
videoblogging track at BarcampUSA?

I am working on some PR right now for BarcampUSA and if we could
decide whether or not the two are going to be involved, that would be
great. Whatever is decided, I'm volunteering to help with Vloggercon,
regardless. However, I'd love to see Vloggercon as a part of
BarcampUSA because I think both could benefit from the co-effort and
co-marketing.

I look fwd to hearing your opinions and to the discussion.

[videoblogging] Vloggercon=AnythingAnywhere

2007-03-02 Thread sull
maybe vloggercon should not be in a single location but have several
satellite events that can vary wildy in style. then pick which one you want
to go to... that you think you would enjoy more.
they all start on same day... but they can vary in length. maybe onces a
meetup, and another is a week long camping thing. vlog it all. an exercise
that would display one of the core strengths of why videoblogging canbe
important... removing geo-barriers etc. collect all the footage into a
blip-powered site.

2007-04-15 Thread Rupert
What's the most recent plan for this? Last I heard here (just
searched) it was going to be in Boston in the Summer, and not merged
with BarCampUSA. Is that right? Still on? Any definite plans?

[videoblogging] Vloggercon Volunteers

2006-04-10 Thread johngaltsjournal
Hey all

Interested in coming to Vloggercon but don't want to pay for the ticket?

No problem-- we need vollunteer help!

As with any gettogether, there are plenty of things we could use a helping hand
for. From
setting up chairs, to helping at the badge booth, to just another hand to put
up signs.

Basically, you may need help affording the event, and we need help throwing it.
 We have
some more surprises for the helpers as well. Then at the end of two days, we
have a group
hug.

Please email me at schlomoATgmailDOTcom if you are interested.

thanks!

[videoblogging] vloggercon arrivals

2006-05-27 Thread Markus Sandy

hi all

i created a new wiki page to help coordinate vloggercon airport arrivals

it may be useful to know who is coming in when and where - please add
yourself if you want to

you may find friends that are coming in at around the same time &
airport and wish to meetup before catching transportation in to the city
or wherever you are staying (I recommend the BART subway as best bet for
most people).

California locals driving into the city for events may wish to check the
wiki page in case they can stop off at the airport and pick up a few
folks on the way.

if you have any questions, concerns or special needs, please feel free
to contact me and we will try to help you out.  contact info is on the wiki.

looking forward to seeing you all,
markus

So what should we out of towners expect for weather at vloggercon???
Somehow I'm thinking it will be cooler than the 95 degree freaking too
hotness we've been feeling... day temps? night temps? air-conditioning
in building temps? rain / storm possibilities? walking needs?

[videoblogging] Vloggercon II

2005-07-20 Thread andrew michael baron

Speaking of conferences, this is not a whimsical thought - been
thinkin about it for awhile:

I propose we move vloggercon up to this fall.

The age old standard of annual conferences may work in some
industries, but this is moving too fast.

Also, winter is not an optimum time to get to or be in NYC.

We can handle it easily, time wise because we have such a larger
group now.

Thoughts?

I vote for doing it at http://www.barcampusa.org.

We've had Vloggercon on the East and West Coast...so lets do one for
the Heartland.
Its in the middle of the country, so its probably a long day's drive
to half the people on this list.
The folks on the Coast...just fly into Chicago..and we'll carpool 2 hours.
Those people in EuropeChicago is a major hub.
You guys have VlogEurope in September, right?

BarCampUSA is August 23-26...so we have a good 6 months to get ready.
To me, I like that someone else will deal with the whole
infrastructure, logistics, renting the space, deal with parking,
internet, etc. Each of us will just have to pay $50 for the entire
time.

We can spend the next 6 months deciding how to have inventive panels,
long day trips where we record bugs, editing workshops that last for 4
days.

We have a big fund left over from last Vloggercon:
http://node101.pbwiki.com/Record%20of%20Vloggercon%20money
We could always use this for all kinds of fun things if we all agreed.
$16,000!!!

Since it's part of BarCamp...we'll probably have a good chance of
rubbing elbows with the Youtubers we keep talking about.

What do other people think?

Re: [videoblogging] Vloggercon=BarcampUSA?

2007-02-27 Thread Rupert
Doesn't it come down to whether anyone is willing to take
responsibility for organising it all in the time available, now that
it's almost March?

Logistically, surely it makes sense to do it in a place where
everything's all set up and ready to go? ie BarcampUSA? I know I've
already said this, and I don't think I can even come...

BUT - it would be interesting to see how many indoor spaces there are
at BCUSA, and how possible it would be to have a separate vlogging
'center' - rather than just having to fight to book slots on the main
stages, then getting bumped... It could end up quite fragmented.

Erecting a big videoblogging marquee tent from a local supplier might
be a good use of some of the funds from 06. Then kit it out with
seats, tables, screens, projectors, terminals. And karaoke. And
donuts.

So I don't know if it *would* be possible to leave it as Gena
suggested and sneak into BCUSA later if it's decided not to do a
separate Vloggercon - there would still be some booking and
organising to do, even on a smaller scale. But who would do it?

We can spend the next 6 months deciding how to have inventive panels,

We have a big fund left over from last Vloggercon:

We could always use this for all kinds of fun things if we all agreed.
$16,000!!!

Since it's part of BarCamp...we'll probably have a good chance of

There will be plenty of tents for meetups of large groups. We have also
been talking about having Videoblog Salons or whatever you may call them...
places for videobloggers to get together, shoot, upload and generally be
vloggerconny.

I keep hearing about how you folks want to camp; I think barcampusa will
have that room.

Remember though: barcampusa is not just about videoblogging. So if you
want total immersion in JUST videoblogging, then hooking up with barcampusa
may not be the right choice.

Either way, I've already committed time and energy to the videoblogging
tract at barcampusa last month. Nothing is in stone, and all can be mutated
to fit what we want. (welcome to barcamp!)

But to bring the point home: barcamp is not just videoblog specific, but
there will be tents that will basically be pretty darn vloggerconic.

Yes, I said "vloggerconic", which is much better than a "vlogger-colonic".

if we're all good on putting energy into this eventnow we just got to do

What - Barcamp is an un-conference about technology learning, sharing, and

Who - Anyone interested in technology and creativity. Whilst most people
will be from around the USA we are expecting a large number of people from
overseas as well.
Size - We are expecting 5000+ participants (our location can accommodate
20,000+)
When - August 23-26 2007 (those that buy tickets before May 1 can check in
on Aug 22)
Where - Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Jefferson, Wisconsin, USA - located
about 1 hour from Milwaukee's airport and about 2 hours from Chicago's

Yes, VlogEurope is weekend of 7-9 September (and it'll most likely turn
into the Wednesday-to-Wednesday event it was last year). Chicago is a
major hub, but the date for barcampusa will most likely mean that I'll
stay home. If I went I'd end up spending one or two weeks in USA, be home
for one week and then leave for VlogEurope for one week. That's just too
close to each other for my taste.

In that case I'd have to hope for a video vertigo thing in NYC on some
other date. I may even be representing a company this time! :o)

[videoblogging] Vloggercon and Gyms ?

2006-04-12 Thread Charles Iliya Krempeaux

Hello,(Hopefully this isn't too off topic, but)Are there any good gyms in the area of vloggercon?  (Well, near the hotels near vloggercon.)I go on business trips from time to time, and I find that I usually have to explain what I mean by "good gym".  (Usually I ask the hotel I'm going to if they have a gym, and they say "yes".  But when I get there things are insufficient.  And it can be frustrating.  So)
What I mean by "good gym" is one with, at the very least, dumbbells up to 120 lbs.  (I can elaborate if need be.  But I'm not sure how many other health-freaks are on the list.)Thanks.

I agree about the weather thing...but when it comes to planning...this vloggercon is going to be HUGE!!!

imagine vloggercue times 500. people felt bad they missed vloggercue,
they won't miss vloggercon. that is a lot of full pull-outs and
sleeping bags on floors. Either way, planning for Vloggercon should
commence soon be it for a date in the fall or in January.-- Josh Leowww.joshleo.com

i feel differently
first, its' kinda short notice for this change
lots of other events already planned for the fall (Burning Man, Podcast
Hotel, Web 2.0, Webzine 2005, MusicFest NW, etc)
it would be hard not to overlap

i agree that winter is a bear, but  I don't follow the logic of your
other two points

i think we should hold more meetthevlogger type events and try and get
even more people vlogging in time for vloggercon 2006

Re: [videoblogging] Vloggercon II

2005-07-20 Thread andrew michael baron

The logic of doing it sooner is that I'm worried we'll be squished.

If we dont work harder and faster, we will be swept up entirely.

The major media, the FCC, world trade, everyone is seeing whats going
on.

In less than 2 months you'll have Apple pushing CBS video thru RSS
enclosures and the media writing stories about HOllywood broadcast
producers like the self-fufilling trademarking VJ guy.

The news, methods, procedures, legalities, tools, will be elsewhere. . .

Potentially.

Sorry Verdi, but one day you may very well be stopped for doing what
you do online.

I'm just saying I'm finding that we as a group, we as humans, we as a
movement can move faster.

It would be more fun.

We would get to meet again sooner in the Fall and then again next
summer.

It would be easy to pull off.

We will always overlap other conferences.

Some of us will always be able to not make it or have other higher
priorities, this wont change.

I think it could easily happen by the mid to late october.

Implication of the lost Grokster case taken from this article:

http://tinyurl.com/9qsdg

In BrandX, Justice Thomas gets very confused about the internet and
ends up essentially announcing that everything a user does online is
an "information service" being offered by the access provider. DNS,
email (even if some other provider is making it available),
applications, you name it -- they're all included in this package.
And the FCC can make rules about these information services under its
broad "ancillary jurisdiction."

Yep. The US pretty much has veto power over the majority of the
Internet.

You can support handing that over to the United Nations which wants
it, but is in a losing battle against the US that just released a
report saying its being kept.

everyone should sense it... it's like the perfect storm.
the faster the open media revolution and remix culture moves, the faster the 'industry' spins to get more order in place.

i try to be optimistic and imagine some huge global resistance by
people if/when the Internet becomes utterly controlled by FCC
regulations, crushing so much of the dream we have for our
technology.
but look around the skirmish are coming...  each battle
inevitably in pursuit of the big downer for content creators

the more noise, the better.  if not, then its easier to get
squashed.  only huge things in the collective mindset demand
defense on large-scale global community.  this is big, but it
needs to get louder every month... or POOF

maybe the outcome will be a more balanced and fair digital ecology...
but if it is realized that thier is no money in it for 'the
established'  and in fact it causes a loss of money... and they
cannot keep up with innovation, then mcu effort will be made to kill
this thing before it is bigger than they are.  That is why it is
important to have companies succeed around this important to show
the potentiality of what can become... before we are over-governed and
in a battle to reclaim our rights to innovate and digitally create,
express, communicate.

With that rant at its end
I think vloggercon 2 would work well last week October, first week Novemberish.   A few months ahead.

Firstly, for gods sakes, please trim your replies people!  Jesus.
Secondly, from your first response to this you've been labeling him as a
fear monger.  Nice tactic, but throwing out names and labels when we're
trying to have an honest debate about when to schedule a conference is
inappropriate in my mind.

To me, I totally agree with Andrew.  Fall sounds better to me.  By the
winter Apple could have already released a video iPod and we could be
where podcasting is now, except that we've had something like 6 months
less time to prepare.  We need to be talking about evangelism in person,
sooner rather than later.  I don't care if it's only 5 of us that are
concerned about losing the lead this group has built, but to me it's not
fear mongering it's reality.  It's happening, and it's happening too
damn quickly, and if we sit on our asses and don't start attempting to
expand our network and expand mind-share with the general public, then
vlogging will have never existed.  Major media will come in with their
slick video production and we'll be brushed easily to the side.

ive been following this conversationso here are the challenges:

The problem is that there are far less videobloggers living in these
areas. Like you say NYC is nice because there are people that open up
their homes (thank you, Peter) and there are people who can organize
meeting locations and so on.

I'd love London or Amsterdam because I can actually afford to plane
ticket. But, jheez, if you think NYC is expensive to get a room in try
getting on in central London.

VlogEurope is coming to Heidelburg Germany at that time; and is should be a
really good time. (Last year in Milan was pretty near perfect of an

Do a search for VlogEurope and you should find the yahoogroup and site.

Hey all -

Raymond and I are working to get www.vlogeurope.com up and running with
valid data for this year's vlogeurope. Yes: Heidelberg, Germany
- September 1 (conference) September 2 (picknic). We'll try to have more
info to everyone as soon as we move our asses to get it, and our fingers to
type it.

Hope to see you all there!

Re: [videoblogging] Vloggercon and Gyms ?

2006-04-12 Thread Corey Denis
health freak here.

there's a 24 hour fitness in the financial district & also at 16th & Potrero by the Real/ Rhapsody offices - and there are Club One clubs all over SF.
I prefer club one. in fact, i'm on my way there now. GREAT facility, lots of weights, machines, yoga, you can get a massage, etc.

Hello,

Are there any good gyms in the area of vloggercon?  (Well, near the hotels near vloggercon.)

I go on business trips from time to time, and I find that I usually have to explain what I mean by "good gym".

But I'm not sure how many other health-freaks are on the list.)

Thanks.

[videoblogging] [vloggercon] live theatrical performance

2006-04-28 Thread Digital

Heya Vloggers -

For those of you heading out to Vloggercon, I would like to know if
you have an interest in participating in an outdoor live production of
Will Shakespeare's "The Tempest".

http://www.weplayers.org/ has been putting on live performances in
Northern Ca for the last 7 years and I came across them last week when
I was running on Albany beach.

They are interested in preparing a few scenes or an act from their
current show at a nearby outdoor venue on either Saturday or Sunday
morning.

Check out their website - they take a unique approach to distributing
theater. We really have an opportunity to extend the space!

If we get enough positive interest, we'll look at putting this together.
If any of you would like to help me video their upcoming performances
in Albany in May, drop me a line as well.

Thanks!

- Ted
