The original e-mail says, .smaller bottom left delete key, (deletes the
characters in front of where the cursor is) and alternatively the backspace
on the right deletes behind the cursor.

When I go through the keys with QuickNav's Help, the key on the right of
 the
top row is identified as Delete. But when using the keyboard it functions
as a backspace. I cannot find a delete key on the keyboard. BTW, the key to
the left of that backspace key is not identified while using Help.

The only thing I have found about this keyboard I dislike is that there is
no second control key on the right of the spacebar. The command in
 Quicknav
for read page starting at selected option is option, control A. I find it
awkward to use the left control key ith the A.

Thanks to the person who put the directions up for the Verbatim. I have a
couple of questions about the information provided below.

 You said,

row3: capslock, asdfghjkl; shilf lcolon, comma, shift fo couble quote row
 4
shilt, azcvcnm, (less than with shift) .

Can you please explain? Either there are a lot of typos there or I am
 missing something.(

Later you say, greater than slash, up arrow, shift key smaller bottom left
delete key, (deletes the characters in front of where the cursor is) and
alternatively the backspace on the right deletes behind the cursor.

I don't understand where you are saying the delete kay is. Backspace I got.
 Where is delete?

Re: Hardware Upgrades to Apple devices

2012-07-28 Thread Scott Howell
Do not expect such things. You have to understand that in order to make an
iPhone or any such device as small as it is, you have to integrate components
directly onto the board. In fact in many cases you will find multiple
components on one chip. I believe the opposite will be true and devices will
become less user serviceable. You simply cannot have small devices that are
serviceable by users or most technicians. And you also have to understand that
companies such as APple, Nokia, and so on make money on the hardware more so

Re: accessible transit apps.

2012-07-28 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

To add to what esther said, when we were in New York, we used destinations like
Empire State Building, Penn Station, and battery Park, and it worked fine, so
many points of interest are included. It's a great app.

Best,
Anna

 Hello David and Others,

You don't need to put in an exact street address for HopStop -- a street
intersection will work like University Ave. 4 St. I've also entered the
name of a shopping center as a destination and had this recognized. Also,
since you can choose addresses from your contacts for the start and stop
points of your trip, you could always search for a destination in AroundMe,
Where To?, the yellow pages app, etc. and add the result address to your
contacts for navigation purposes. And current location is, of course, one
of the options for the starting point, so you don't need to type in your
address here. You can also use it to check routes for travel at a different
time, if you want to find out about return trip options and connections.

There are a lot of place specific transit apps. For example, many U.S.
cities (not mine), have NextBus. And there are different accessible transit
apps for the UK and Europe. (For the record, HopStop does include cities
like London, Paris, etc., and as far as I could check it appears to work for
these routes. You have to spell out some names to avoid confusion, like
Blvd Saint Michel and not use the abbreviation of St. for Saint which
could be confused with the abbreviation for Street, if this makes sense.)

 HTH. Cheers,

 Esther

I would recommend HopStop. HopStop is a trip planner covering 86cities, and

Also, if you do not like the bus or train it gives you, you can reroute each
segment of the trip. The downside to this app is that it requires you to
have an exact address, and the napping features are of course inaccessible.
Otherwise, this is a great all in one app that should suit most of your

everything was working great. But yesterday FB let me know that
someone had hacked into my account with their mobile device.

I went into FB and changed my password but I am not receiving all my

Any thoughts on what may be going on? Should I stop FB from texting my

All help is appreciated.

If jailbroken potentially, if not then no. The package that is *meant*

Thoughts on carrier options in US

2012-07-28 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I'm learning about iOS on an iPod Touch 4th Generation WiFi, but will be
moving on to an iPhone with the introduction of iPhone5. So, I'll bee
needing to sign up with a carrier for calls, text, and data.

Besides the differences in calling / texting / data plans among Verizon,
ATT, and Sprint (in the US), are there other considerations to take
into account when selecting a carrier? I'm asking because a few posts on
this list seem to have mentioned special configurations among different
carriers that may impact blind users, if I understood correctly.

I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance Keith

Around me, Verizon seems to have the best reputation for call quality and

Re: Thoughts on carrier options in US

2012-07-28 Thread jeremy
I may not be totally correct on this, but I think that pretty much any
IPhone you get, no matter the carrier, should be about the same. This of
course was a bit different with the older devices we are used to, nokias
and alike, and even some of the newer droid devices to. One thing of
note I've herd people mention though, are the differences between the
data plans offered through sprint, verison and att. Not sure if any are
really considered truly unlimited, but sprint and verison apparently
have an upper hand on us att users. One other thing that may become an
issue with the IPhone 5, if it really is 4g compatible, will be how the
4g works here on ATt. I really honestly don't know much about 4g or
what they use so maybe it'll work perfectly.

Take care.

RE: Thoughts on carrier options in US

2012-07-28 Thread Joseph Lee
Hi,
iPhone 4S can be used with any carrier provided that it is unlocked, since
it contains radio chips used by ATT/T-Mobile and Verizon/Sprint. ATT
labels HSPA+ network as 4G and other carriers doesn't. The true 4G would
be LTE, which the 5 would have it (thanks to LTE chips built on 4G iPad
III). As for data plan, it depends on what you want to do with your iPhone
and whether you want to use your phone as a router for others.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: Thoughts on carrier options in US

2012-07-28 Thread Steve
No special configurations that I'm aware of.

Only Sprint has unlimited data, if that matters to you. The only other
issue is looking at network coverage.

In my area, all three work, although Verizon has a uniformly stronger
signal.

A final consideration... If you plan to ever travel internationally to Asia
or Europe, their networks are almost all GSM, which is what ATT run. The
Verizon and Sprint networks are CDMA.

I'll just add that you should explore your points of interest with HopStop. It
was originally developed as a web site transit interface for the New York City
area, then spread to include other metropolitan areas, and then was released as
an iPhone app. (There's also an iPad version, but I think it uses the extra
screen real estate for map information, so the iPhone version is likely to be
more useful to run on the iPad.) So the examples of points of interest may
vary for your area, but are quite likely to cover local destinations you'll
find useful.

There are more cities covered by the web site HopStop.com, and for the first
year or so after the app was launched I found that the HopStop web site had
more/better options than the app (on the few times that I checked it, since my
city wasn't covered until later). Someone reported accessibility issues with
the web site at the end of last year. When I checked then, that was true -- for
certain options you could only select options from what appeared to be a
section of the list -- maybe what corresponded to the visually displayed list
without scrolling. I don't know whether this is still true, because the
original web site was pretty accessible in previous years.

One other feature that makes HopStop useful is that it can give integrated
route planning with other regional rail lines and other transport options
(taxi, etc.) Since Tom also posted (further down this thread) about using
HopStop, I'll provide a tip that when you want to extend the area of your route
planning and need to specify an address, it can be helpful to type in a postal
code as well for a destination. When it looks for an address in a local area,
there's no problem with which location you mean, but in some instances the same
street can run well outside your local area, or there can be a similarly named
street and you will be asked to select the one you want. Tom once had a
question about route planning from some point way outside of Los Angeles, and
it turned out that you could get HopStop to give you a route if you added the
zip code to the end of that address, but treated it otherwise as though it was
just in the selected Los Angeles region, except for changing options to include
regional rail in addition to other modes of transportation.

Here's the URL at the App Store for HopStop:

since you can choose addresses from your contacts for the start and stop

The reason I say that is because I still have unlimited data, which is a

IPhone you get, no matter the carrier, should be about the same. This of
course was a bit different with the older devices we are used to, nokias and
alike, and even some of the newer droid devices to. One thing of note I've
herd people mention though, are the differences between the data plans
offered through sprint, verison and att. Not sure if any are really
considered truly unlimited, but sprint and verison apparently have an upper
hand on us att users. One other thing that may become an issue with the
IPhone 5, if it really is 4g compatible, will be how the 4g works here on

 it'll work perfectly.

Please help!
I have just synced my iPhone and my iPad with iCloud, in preparation for
putting mountain lion on my Mac and using iCloud on that too.
However, I now have two calendar events for future events, but interestingly,
not the past ones. I also have got back many contacts which I deleted in June
when I got my iPhone for S. Not sure how this has happened. But it means I need
to go through and delete and edit all my contacts again!
How can I avoid this happening? Do I just set iCloud to back up my phone and my
iPad? And not check any of the other boxes in the iCloud settings, I. E.
contacts, calendar, notes, ETC?
I have things on my iPad which I want to go onto my iPhone too, and vice versa,
isn't iCloud supposed to insure this happens? It isn't. I am so confused! I'm
scared I'm about to lose everything if I do something wrong! If I uncheck those
boxes, will I lose everything?

Because iTunes is being a pain, and I used to backup with that, which is no
longer working for some reason, hence my use of iCloud now, I don't think I
will have anything to backup from… Help!
Thank you! Any advice much appreciated!

Hi,

My guess is that when you deleted your contacts, you didn't delete them from
both the iphone and iPad. If you delete them again, they should be deleted from
both. If you sync both with iCloud, you'll end up with the same contacts and
calendar events on both devices.

Subject: Thoughts on carrier options in US

 Hi,

I'm learning about iOS on an iPod Touch 4th Generation WiFi, but will be
moving on to an iPhone with the introduction of iPhone5. So, I'll bee
needing to sign up with a carrier for calls, text, and data.

Besides the differences in calling / texting / data plans among Verizon,
ATT, and Sprint (in the US), are there other considerations to take into
account when selecting a carrier? I'm asking because a few posts on this
list seem to have mentioned special configurations among different carriers
that may impact blind users, if I understood correctly.

I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance Keith

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't end up having to do what my
aunt had to do on Verizon which was completely get a new plan when she got a
new phone. She had the Droid II. She has one of the newer Droids now.
The reason I say that is because I still have unlimited data, which is a
good thing and would hate to lose it. I like Sprint because they have
unlimited data, and if I were to have to get a new plan on Verizon, Sprint
would have a new customer.

RE: ooTunes Question

2012-07-28 Thread Brett
Hi,

Are you sure you have ooTunes? I don't see any unlabelled buttons in this
app.

To search for a station:

Launch the app.

Click too and double tab on Stations.

Then double tap on Search Stations. This will bring up an edit field where
you should type your search, then click the Go button at the bottom right of
the keyboard.

Any results found will show in a list view just below the search edit field.
Note, it can take several seconds for the search results to appear
sometimes, so if you first see no results, give the program a bit more time
and you should end up with something.

Cheers,

Brett.

Neither, sadly, does Telus or I believe Rogers, although I could be wrong
about the latter. My research turns up mostly apps that either 1: cost you
or 2: aren't accessible. And occasionally, they fall into both categories.
So I'd also appreciate a pointer or 6 in the right direction. Thanks as
well.

To search for a station:

Any results found will show in a list view just below the search edit field.

I am about to join the iPhone ranks soon as well. I'm waiting to see
what's in the iPhone 2012 to decide whether to get it or the 4s. The
two biggest differences in services between providers are
coverage/call quality and price. I would not like to be an ATT
customer in New York or a Sprint customer north of Seattle. coverage
at these spots is flaky and limited I understand. similarly, I have
noticed that some providers offer the service at one-third to half the
cost of the contract providers. the most well-known of these
providers is one called Straight Talk, a joint venture of Wal-Mart and
TracFone. Straight Talk uses the ATT network and offers unlimited
voice, data, and texting for $45 a month. Straight Talk doesn't want
users to do tethering or video or audio streaming. However, people
report that Straight Talk only gets excited when people use more than
100 MB of data a day or 2 GB a month. with Straight Talk, you must
bring your own phone to the service, which is prepaid. One is not on
any contract and can leave at any time.

for me, Straight Talk has made owning and using and iPhone affordable

I may not be totally correct on this, but I think that pretty much any
IPhone you get, no matter the carrier, should be about the same. This of
course was a bit different with the older devices we are used to, nokias
 and
alike, and even some of the newer droid devices to. One thing of note I've
herd people mention though, are the differences between the data plans
offered through sprint, verison and att. Not sure if any are really
considered truly unlimited, but sprint and verison apparently have an upper
hand on us att users. One other thing that may become an issue with the
IPhone 5, if it really is 4g compatible, will be how the 4g works here on
ATt. I really honestly don't know much about 4g or what they use so maybe
 it'll work perfectly.
 Take care.

 Hi,

I'm learning about iOS on an iPod Touch 4th Generation WiFi, but will
be moving on to an iPhone with the introduction of iPhone5. So, I'll
bee needing to sign up with a carrier for calls, text, and data.

Besides the differences in calling / texting / data plans among
Verizon, ATT, and Sprint (in the US), are there other considerations
to take into account when selecting a carrier? I'm asking because a
few posts on this list seem to have mentioned special configurations
among different carriers that may impact blind users, if I understood

I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance Keith

2012-07-28 Thread Blinkin
All,
First of all I hope I don't get in trouble since this has absolutely
nothing to do with technology but I thought yawl might need a smile.
I just published another How to be Blind Podcast and it is called 20
Reasons why being blind is great.
If you need a break from your day take a handful of minutes and give it
a listen. Enjoy!

RE: blocking number app with the Iphone

2012-07-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello May and James,

There are Blacklist apps out there, mostly for Jailbroken iPhones, but some
for non-jailbroken ones. I am only mentioning this because if you do end up
coming across them on the app store be very careful, I have read a lot of
customer feedback and for the most part these apps don't seem to work very
well and the ones I saw have very low ratings.

I don't really have an answer other than that you download or make a silent
ringtone and if somebody calls you whose call you don't want to take, just
add that phone number to your contacts, you could call the contact ZZ
Caller 1 or something which would put it at the very end of your
addressbook and then assign the silent ringtone to that particular caller.
You can add multiple unwanted numbers to one caller, e.g. Home, Work, Mobile
etc. and if there are no more phone fields available, just make another
contact ZZ Caller 2 or whatever. You may still get the vibrating, but the
phone won't ring.

Also, keep in mind that when iOS 6 comes out in 2 or 2 and a half months
there are going to be a lot more call management features, I don't know all
the details, but there maybe a way not to block but at least to set it so a
particular call from a particular number doesn't bother you.

Are you trying to block tele marketing calls?

Regards,
Sieghard

Neither, sadly, does Telus or I believe Rogers, although I could be wrong
about the latter. My research turns up mostly apps that either 1: cost you
or 2: aren't accessible. And occasionally, they fall into both categories.
So I'd also appreciate a pointer or 6 in the right direction. Thanks as
well.

Hi everyone that may live in Canada and are with Bell ability or that also
have this problem.

I need an app that works well that allows you to block numbers from calling
you.. Bell Mobility doesn't offer a call blocking feature service or
whatever you want to call it, thanks.

Iphone 3gs-a few queries

2012-07-28 Thread BHAVESH
Hi Folks,

I wanna purchase IPhone 3gs. however before purchasing it, I want to
know a few things:
1. How is the touchscreen responce as compare to Iphone 4 or Iphone 4s?
2. will i be able to upgrade to IOS5? if yes, then are there any bugs
in Voiceover/IOS and work arrounds to it.
3. Will i be able to install/download all the apps one can use in the
Iphone 4s? except for a few extra softwares, like cery which can only
be used in Iphone 4s.
4. Is the Email app fully adccessible? if not, then what are bugs in the app?
5. and lastly, will i be able to search songs/contacts by typing a few
letters? for instance, If i type F, will i be able to get songs by the
letter F in the music app? or i will have to use flick left/right to
view all the songs/contacts and not the first letter navigation.
please answer these a few queries, so that i can go and take the decision.

Re: Question about Downcast

2012-07-28 Thread Garth Humphreys
NO you won't need to subscribe on both devices. You can have all of this synced
between devices at a pretty granular level, Ie, you can sync, episodes,
podcasts, playlists and settings independently.

copying email account settings from pc to iphone

2012-07-28 Thread don bishop

Hi,

Just recently upgraded to an iphone 4s and ios5. On my previous phone
running ios4.x when I originally got the phone, I was able to copy the
settings for my email account on the pc to the iphone. However, not
just sure what setting I used to do this.
Can someone refresh my memory as to how to get the settings copied to
the phone? Just not sure of the options in itunes to use.

Everything else is fine except for the email.

Thanks,

Don

Re: ooTunes Question

2012-07-28 Thread Scott Davert
HI Carla.
another way to stop playback is to do a 2 finger double tap on the
screen. To search, start on the home screen of the app. Then flick
right until you come to stations. Double tap this.VoiceOver will
land you on something that says search stations. Double tap again and
enter what you're looking for. Once done, tap the upper half of your
screen above where the keyboard is located, the results will be
displayed there. If nothing is found, OOTunes will indicate this as
well.

Hope this helps,
Scott

 Carla;

If you use the time as your starting point and, come down toward the Home
 button, you should find it.

Or, you can always start from the upper left hand corner and, flick right.

 Hi,

There is a stop button there, if something is playing. You can also in the
apps settings set shake to stop to on, that way you can just shake your
phone to stop what ever is playing.

 Cheers,

 Brett.

 Hi,

Are you sure you have ooTunes? I don’t see any unlabelled buttons in this
 app.

 To search for a station:

 Launch the app.

Click too and double tab on “Stations”.

Then double tap on “Search Stations”. This will bring up an edit field
where you should type your search, then click the Go button at the bottom
 right of the keyboard.

Any results found will show in a list view just below the search edit
field. Note, it can take several seconds for the search results to appear
sometimes, so if you first see no results, give the program a bit more time
and you should end up with something.

 Cheers,

 Brett.

to the next button which is unlabeled. I double tap that and nothing
happens so how do I search in ooTunes? Thanks.
