RE: How do I get iTunes to start automaticly when Windows 7 starts?

2012-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Robert,

Make sure your phone is plugged in, then open iTunes and find you rphone
under devices. By default the "Summary" tab should be checked. Just keep
pressing the tab key until you find "Open iTunes when phone is connected".
It actually doesn't say it exactly in those words, I did have the exact
wording in my previous message to Kevin, but it definitely starts with "Open
iTunes..." It's a few tabs after where you find the stuff about restoring
and backing up your phone. Once you find it, press spacebar to check the
option, then tab to Apply and press the spacebar.

Personally I prefer to start iTunes manually because I don't necessarily
want iTunes to open when I plug in my phone to charge and I definitely don't
want iTunes to open on Windows startup because it's not that often I need
iTunes. I have it on fourth place in my taskbar and in Windows 7 that means
pressing Alt+4 on the number row will start it no matter what application I
am in.

Regards,
Sieghard

iCloud question

2012-10-10 Thread Grant Hardy
Hi all,

An interesting observation about iCloud. I have discovered that there
are certain apps which store their data in iCloud but which you cannot
access from Settings/iCloud/Storage and Backup/Manage
Storage/Documents and Data. Fleksy is one example. The user dictionary
seems to be stored in iCloud but isn't listed anywhere. The native
weather app is another example that I can think of which stores your
favourite cities in iCloud.

This is hardly a big deal but it would be nice to know exactly what
data is stored in iCloud.

Cheers.

RE: How do I get iTunes to start automaticly when Windows 7 starts?

2012-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kevin,

Even though your subject and message were quite clear, I think I
misunderstood your previous message and thought you wanted iTunes to open
when you plugged in your phone and not when you booted up your Windows 7
computer.

What I described takes care of the first, the latter I assume you can
accomplish simply by adding an iTunes shortcut into the "Startup" group
under "Start Menu" and "All Programs". This has been the easiest way to
start a program upon Windows startup at least since Windows XP, maybe even
since 98, can't remember because that's been a long time ago.

Just find the iTunes shortcut on your desktop or in All Programs, right
click on it, select "Copy", then go to the "Startup" folder, right arrow to
open it and then right click on it and select paste. This will add the
iTunes shortcut to the Startup menu and next time you start Windows iTunes
should load after you sign into Windows.

Regards,
Sieghard

checked, but iTunes still doesn't start automaticly. If it weren't for my

RE: How to pair Focus 14 to iPhone?

2012-10-10 Thread Richard Turner
If you are already in Settings, General, Accessibility, then you need to go
into the VoiceOver settings, then down to Braille.
If blue tooth isn't on, it will prompt you to turn it on.
Then, it will search for your device.
When it shows up in the list of devices, double tap on its button.
If it brings up a number pad, try and then double tap the pair button
in the upper right-hand corner.
If that doesn't work, try 1 2 3 4.

They should pair fairly quickly.
I would think Electronic documentation would be on the freedom scientific
web site, or through the vendor.

Please let us know what you think of the device once you get it going.

Nice ways to use Siri with reminders

2012-10-10 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi everyone,

I thought I would share with you an interesting way to use Siri with reminders.

As far as I know I haven't seen this posted in the complete command guide that
somebody shared on the list a few days ago.

I managed to create reminders by saying something like this:
Add John Doe to my Aniversaries and remind me every October 1 at 1 PM"

It is to be noted that I had previously created a reminder list called
"Aniversaries ". Hope this is interesting for some of you.

All the best,

I sent a message to Apple and they wrote back telling me, in effect, don't use
home and power button to reboot the phone. I only did this when I could not
get things straightened out. I think more people need to report this unless
they have done this on purpose.

David,

That is very bizarre indeed and certainly shouldn't be happening by
design. Sounds like a bug that should be reported to Apple
accessibility. Do you ever lose VoiceOver when rebooting your phone
normally?

Also, not to get into a whole debate about resets and crashes again,
but I don't know that this procedure should be carried out on a daily
basis. Yes it's officially condoned by Apple, but only if powering off
and on the phone isn't working normally. It may not "crash" the phone
but it's certainly a "safety mechanism" that isn't meant to be used
unless normal operation of the phone isn't working.

Re: 5 rows of icons on iPhone 5

2012-10-10 Thread Joanne Chua
Hi,

It also depends on how you configure it when you setting it up, either
you configuring it as brand new set up, or you choose to restore your
setting from your previous iphone.
If you set aas default with new set up, no cyncing apps or setting
when you first setting up, all of your default apps will be in the 5th
role, like how it been set as factory setting. However, if you choose
restore you setting from your previous phone, it will be 4th roles per
page, because there's how it been setting up on your previous phone.
You can then of course, manually add in your apps to the 5th role, the
way you like.

Cheers

Subject: 5 rows of icons on iPhone 5

Greetings. I got my iPhone 5 today and have been enjoying it most of
 the
afternoon. So many things are added/changed from the iPhone 4, like even
 the
sound quality from the speaker. Anyway, I read that there were 5 rows
 of
icons on the new iPhone. When I restored from my iCloud backup earlier
 this
afternoon, all my apps and folders were restored to my phone, but in 4
 rows.
How can I get that allusive fifth row to show up on my various home
 screens?
It seems like there's a bit of space between the forth row and the dock
 at
the bottom. Is there a setting I need to change, and if so where is it?

 Regards,
Wayne, who's happy with his new white 64 GB iPhone and looking forward
 to
 getting a case tomorrow!

Hi, 4 icons per row times 5 rows makes 20 icons per page. I hope that helps.

Greetings. I got my iPhone 5 today and have been enjoying it most of the
afternoon. So many things are added/changed from the iPhone 4, like even
the
sound quality from the speaker. Anyway, I read that there were 5 rows of
icons on the new iPhone.

Re: How do I get iTunes to start automaticly when Windows 7 starts?

2012-10-10 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi all, in case this wasn't fully answered as yet with all the techno
details, here is the simple answer. If you are using Windows 7, open the
following path, but replace xxx with your own user name.

C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Please note that it may have wrapped on 2 lines. Once this folder is
open, you can create a short cut, or better yet, copy the iTunes
shortcut from your desktop into it with control-c for copy, and
control-v for pasting. Now this will make the iTunes shortcut be
executed when Windows 7 starts.

I hope this helps.

Practicing gestures

2012-10-10 Thread reggie.alvar...@gmail.com

I was struggling badly with two finger, double tap. I took David's suggestion
to heart and found my fingers had gotten just too close together. As soon as I
practiced for a few minutes, I was no longer having the problem. I would
encourage anybody to just take a few minutes if a gesture is just not working
to practice. Thank you David. Sometimes a little gentle reminder is worth it.
Now to sit down and work on the pinch gesture. My fingers just do not want to
do it.

Hi.

I just checked the startup items in MSCONFIG, and iTunes manufacturing is
checked, but iTunes still doesn't start automaticly. If it weren't for my
PC doing an auto update and restarting because the update didn't take this
wouldn't be a problem. I'd prefer to start iTunes myself and have it run
all night, so I can stream content to my Apple TV in the bedroom. Oh well.

Subject: 5 rows of icons on iPhone 5

Greetings. I got my iPhone 5 today and have been enjoying it most of the
afternoon. So many things are added/changed from the iPhone 4, like even the
sound quality from the speaker. Anyway, I read that there were 5 rows of
icons on the new iPhone. When I restored from my iCloud backup earlier this
afternoon, all my apps and folders were restored to my phone, but in 4 rows.
How can I get that allusive fifth row to show up on my various home screens?
It seems like there's a bit of space between the forth row and the dock at
the bottom. Is there a setting I need to change, and if so where is it?

Regards,
Wayne, who's happy with his new white 64 GB iPhone and looking forward to
getting a case tomorrow!

Re: Selecting Tones

Yes, it appears to be the way the area scrolls now. Only so many ringtones
appear on the screen at one time. The workaround I have found is to double-tap
a ringtone, bringing focus to it. This shifts the focus in the list and shows
more ringtones.

Selecting Tones

2012-10-10 Thread Joe
Hi, is anyone else having difficulty selecting tones, whether it be ring
tones or alert sounds in general? I've added custom tones to my phone, and
sometimes swiping or doing the four-finger tap to go to top of screen still
makes Voiceover jump around and skip tones I know are there. Tapping
randomly on the screen places me near the target tones, and swiping left or
right sometimes helps, but I don't remember this being as touch and go, no
pun intended, in iOS 5. Sorry if someone's already brought up the issue.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Re: Bookmarks app and reading speed.

2012-10-10 Thread Esther
Hi Annie,

You can speed up your audio book listening when using the Bookmark
app, but only by as much as you can get from the built-in Music app.
Go to the track in the music app, start playing, and increase the
speed. Then when you switch to the Bookmark app and play the audio
book it will use that speed setting.

I'll paste in a shortened link to one of my list posts from the
beginning of the year that describes the Bookmark app's features:
http://bit.ly/VQlxur
(You can use Safari Reader – e.g., Command-Shift-R to read the page on
your Mac).
And here's the URL for the app at the App store:
Bookmark ($1.99) by DockMarket LLC:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bookmark/id326290323?mt=8

HTH. Cheers,
Esther

Fidelity App

2012-10-10 Thread Les Kriegler
I have an IRA account with Fidelity. I have been working with the Fidelity App
and it is totally accessible. I wish to thank Amy Ruell and the group with
whom she is affiliated, as I understand work was done to improve this app's
accessibility with VoiceOver. All buttons are labeled and it would appear that
most, if not all the services available through the website are available
through the app. I don't think one has to have an account to access research
and quotes. It's really great to be able to independently process trades and
review transactions and balances.

The Boot

2012-10-10 Thread Shane Clark
Hi,
I recently liked a page on Facebook called theboot.com. Its a Country music
news site. They have videos sometime:, but I can't seem to find the play
button. My girlfriend can find it, but it doesn't seem to work for me. So I
didn't know if any of you could help?
Thanks for any and all feedback.

Access World/Afb site

2012-10-10 Thread Shane Clark
Hi All,
I've been reading some of Access World via the iPhone app. My question is, does
Afb have an app you can download? And what differences does going to the app
have to the site?
Finally, I guess it woukdn't matter where you put the app, but could you put it
in the news folder app, isn't Access World a magazine?
Thanks.

RE: audible app again asking people to test.

2012-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Donna,

I have no issues with the Audible app and never have had any except
sometimes a download may be corrupted in some way and I have to delete the
part of the book and redownload.

I have 515 titles in my library and by that I mean books, not the various
parts. I only buy full-length books, rarely do I buy a book that consists of
only 1 part, most are 2 and some are 3 or 4 and a few are up to 6 or 7.

I usually queue up all the parts of a book, but I don't think I queue up 2
or 3 parts of a book, then go back, open another book and queue it up. I
don't really see the point in it so usually I start downloading the first
part until the download button changes to "Play", then I start the other
parts and while it's downloading I start listening to the first part.

Earlier this year I had 15 or 16 books downloaded when I went on holidays
and it was no problem. Usually I download 2 or 3 at a time because I usually
listen to 1 and at best 2 books at a time so even though I have a 64 Gig
iPhone 4S and I have lots of free space I don't see the point in downloading
10 books all at once.

The phone number for Audible is 1-888-283-5051. You can also go to the
Audible website, click on "Contact Us" and "Ask a Question".

Regards,

Sieghard

Subject: audible app again asking people to test.

Hi

Ok well, I have installed and removed the audible app several times now, and
I've done a full restore on my phone, and as a result of this, I have a few
thoughts, but before reporting to audible I just wanted to ask if others can
reproduce my problem.

First I have a large library of audible books with over 500 items. Does
anyone else have a large library and have you had problems with the app?

Next, if I queue three or more books to download, the app crashes, and will
crash immediately when I try and open it again. Can anyone else reproduce
this?

Next, if I carefully download say ten books without having queued them. the
app will crash and repeats this behaviour each time I open it. has anyone
got a lot of books downloaded in the app and do you have the same problems?

Finally, can anyone let me know where I should report the bug to audible.

Many thanks for any help. This problem is really very frustrating as I use
audible a lot and really want a working app again.

Best regards

Donna

Hi All,

When I go into the Facebook app and access my friend list, I can't see
their
names. All I get when running my finger down the screen is a series of
clicks. I have similar issues in the area where new friends are suggested.
I
can see the button to add the person but not who I'm adding.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in the app?

Thanks,
Kimber

Re: Can't see my friends in the facebook app

2012-10-10 Thread Shane Clark
Kimber, not sure what to do about adding friends, but if you wanna tag friends
in your friends list, go to the choose friends button and in the edit box, type
in your friends name. Now Vo won't read your friends name when you flick to the
right, but if you double tap, it will then read your friends name when you
touch the edit field. Not sure if this is what you were wanting, but just
thought I'd try to give ya a work around.

Re: Muxica crashing

2012-10-10 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Yes, version 4.0 worked fine, but the 2 newer versions have not. In the
current one it doesn't even load. So, it's not exactly a crash, but just
won't load. I'm confident David will be able to fix this though, so I
haven't lost hope.

RE: Audible app seems to be unuseable

2012-10-10 Thread Rose Combs
Uninstall it and reinstall it, then you can access your library and
redownload any books you want. That is how I fixed the problem since I
don't want to use iTunes since I get credits on Audible itself.

Hi

Just wondering if anyone is having problems with the audible app since IOS6?
I can't get it to stay open which is really annoying as I guess I will have
to go back to syncing books via itunes. has anyone found a work around or is
it just me having problems with the app?

Many thanks.

Re: two finger double tap in ios6

2012-10-10 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,
I find that it's somewhat inconsistent on my iPhone 4, and I use that gesture
for starting/stopping streaming audio more than anything else. I never use the
two-finger double-tap for answering calls. As soon as a call comes in I go
immediately to the botttom of the screen and to a split-tap where it says
"slide to answer". Works every time for me.

it doesn't seem to on my iphone4.

Re: using the bookmark app?

Hi.

The best you can do is to use a program for creating an audiobook for ITunes. I
bought one called audio book builder for the mac, but I do not know if it is
the best one. There are a number of these apps in the app store. On windows
there are a program called something with chapters that should work.
