Accessible App For Sports Scores?

2012-11-12 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I would like to find an app, for my IPhone 5, that gives me the scores without
a lot of detail, unless I want the details for a given game, in a similar way
that Research It handles this task. Is there such an app? I searched sports
scores, and sports in the app store, but only could find the one from ESPN (is
it accessible?), and a fantasy sports app.

Thanks in advance for any information.

restrictions pin?

2012-11-12 Thread Kliphton
Okay, I was searching around my phone, and found the restrictions section in
general part of my phone. I set a pin, and now I can't remember it. I also
can't remember if I have my phone set to wipe the data after 10 failed atempts.
Is there anyway to reset this without restoring the phone clean, or is this a
lost cause? Thanks.

RE: Guitar Apps?

2012-11-12 Thread Brett
Hi Chris,

I have tried several of these apps, fortunately, the one that I think has
the most realistic sounds and the most versatility is the most accessible.
AmpKit is the free version which has three different distortion peddles, two
are very ordinary, but it will give you an idea of its accessibility and
versatility. It also has one or two other reverb and I think delay peddles,
but its description on the app store will clear this up. You can either buy
add ones (amps, peddles and mics to add to the free version or purchase
AmpKit plus which has a lot of the good stuff included by default. You can
hear a sample of the add-on from within the program, so you can determine if
it's something you wish to purchase.

I do advise reading the manual available from within the program to get an
understanding of what the app can do and how to go about doing it. It's
really quite versatile allowing you to choose and configure your various
peddles, amp, cabinet and mic, you can also toggle off the amp and mic and
just run a virtual peddle or two. The app allows you to record yourself,
which is great for capturing ideas you come up with on the spur of the
moment. It does include some ordinary backing tracks that you can jam along
with, but you're better off deleting all of these and uploading your own to
the app. It also supports background playback, so you can close AmpKit and
bring up your music app and play along with whatever you have in your
library.

The only part that is inaccessible, but usable is the speed slider for the
metronome, this isn't seen at all by VoiceOver. However, if you know where
it is onscreen, you can double tap and hold, then drag the slider to adjust
the speed.
Fortunately, VoiceOver does see and read the current tempo, so you can
easily tell when you have successfully changed the tempo and to what speed
you have set it to.

You will of course need a guitar adaptor which will allow you to connect
your guitar to your iPhone.

Hope this helps,
Brett.

Re: Accessible App For Sports Scores?

2012-11-12 Thread Les Kriegler
I don't know of a specific app, but I now use SIRI to acquire scores. You can
ask for the score of a specific team's game, and SIRI will announce it. Scores
are updated immediately; I know this because the NFL scores are updated as they
occur. Very nice.

It must be me then because I am still having all kinds of trouble doing this.

Specifically I am trying to create a shortcut to use in the messenger

Neil,

You said you want to hold this company accountable but you didn't say
how. do you live in the United States? If so, are you traveling
distance to a federal courthouse? Are you interested in suing this
company for its lack of accessibility? You could try this without an
attorney at a relatively minor cost and see what happens.

Re: A stance against inaccessibility...

2012-11-12 Thread Neil Barnfather - TalkNav
Kelly,

If you click the article, all will be explained.

The article encourages you to click the Tweet button at the end of the article,
and Tweet a link out… Its all configured for you already, just press the Tweet
button found directly at the end of the article. It will put the hash tag in,
and Sonos's Twitter name. just press Tweet and done.

I am hoping that peer pressure using Social Media will show them that they
really want to do this, we should all also RT each other's postings.

you can also like the article on FaceBook and Google+ etc.

There's no way that I know of to tell iTunes you're no longer using that

Re: Netatmo Indoor/Outdoor Weather Station

2012-11-12 Thread Jørgen Skov Nielsen
Hello Sieghard
I have also bought a netatmo wether station.
I have no sighted help, but Using the OCR feature in the jaws and several hours
of attempts, I got Netatmo weather station set up.
After that i can use my netatmo weatherstation on my Iphone,
I can read out the humidity and temperatur, as well as other measurements such
as weather station measures, but the interface is a little cluttered on the
iPhone with VoiceOver. It is not possible to read the graph with the highest
and lowest temperature.

Best regards
Jørgen

RE: Please how to make Iphone a personal wifi hotspot

2012-11-12 Thread Vicky Collins
I can't speak for other providers or iPhones; but, using my
iPhone 4S with AT&T, I am indeed able to change my Wi-Fi password
for the Personal Hotspot. For, when it says Wi-Fi password and
then states the current password, it then also says button. And,
if one double taps on this button, they are then placed in an
edit field where they are able to change their password if they
wish, something I did right away.

- Original Message -
From: Sieghard Weitzel All you have to do is go to "Settings" and "Personal Hotspot".
In iOS 6 it's

the fourth item from the top right after Bluetooth.

Tom's comment that tethering is only available from some
providers on more
expensive shared plans most likely won't apply to you, in fact, I
don't
think it applies to most people outside of the United States
where providers
don't consider tethering something they have to charge extra for.
I am in
Canada and it's been many years when providers charged extra for
tethering,
now if I have 2 Gigs of data and I decide to use it all up in
half an hour
by connecting my laptop and download a bunch of movies that's my
problem and
I am pretty sure that providers in Europe do the same as they are
even more

flexible than here.

Double tap on Personal Hotspot, then double tap where Voiceover
says
"Personal Hotspot, Off". This is just like turning Bluetooth on,
once you

tap it it will change to "Personal Hotspot, On".

Please note that if you have Bluetooth turned off and you turn on
Personal

Hotspot you will get the following warning message:

Bluetooth is off.
Personal Hotspot will only be available over WiFi and USB Do
you also want

to enable it over Bluetooth?
Turn on Bluetooth button, WiFi and USB only Button

The same applies to WiFi, if your WiFi is off you would get the
identical
message except that instead of telling you that Bluetooth was off
WiFi is
off and if both Bluetooth and WiFi are off it would tell you that
and give

you the option to turn on both.

I only used Hotspot a couple of times when I didn't have WiFi
available, but
I wanted to use my laptop to get online. I just plugged my
iPhone intot he
laptop with the iPhone cable and my laptop connected to it
immediately. This
is also the most secure method although if you do enable
connecting via WiFi

or Bluetooth you do have to enter a password.
you are not at home and connected to your WiFi and turned WiFi
off to save

battery, it will give you a similar message "

Once Personal Hotspot is on and you enabled Bluetooth and WiFi,
it will now
tell you that your device is discoverable and that others can
look for your
shared network under the name "Maria's iPhone" if that is what
your iPhone

is called.

Below that it will list the WiFi password you have to use to
connect, this
is not something you can change and you have to make sure you use
the exact
spelling including upper and lower case. This will change, e.g.
if you turn
Personal Hotspot off and turn it on again later, the WiFi
password will be

different.

Lastly, below the WiFi password is an explanation on how to
connect using

Bluetooth and the USB Cable.

Good luck,
Sieghard

RE: A stance against inaccessibility...

2012-11-12 Thread Joe
Good article, and I'm all about social networking to advance causes. Yet,
app development is too fragmented for this to be a good vehicle. The better
way of going about this is by supporting the AppleVis campaigns that target
specific developers at a time. Also, take to writing to public forums where
the audience is not primarily blind. Twitter could serve that function, but
Twitter is also busy. You don't come across what you're not looking for.
CNET is one good venue. Gizmoto is another. Maybe consider writing an
article to be floated around ArsTechnica. More is likely to come from
hitting up those venues. Overall though, I agree, and I will do what I can
to support your efforts. Personally, I think Microsoft has taken a good
first step by adding a disclaimer to items on its Store as to whether it is
thought to be accessible or not. Maybe we ought to turn similar efforts to
Apple to begin making accessibility ratings a part of its Store. I'm not all
about leveraging legal and ethical arguments. A developer does not sit down
to think about moral values when designing applications. They're thinking
about their primary customer base. That happens not to be us, which is
unfortunate, but they can learn differently if we take a strategic approach
to educating them about the benefits of opening their apps to an even larger
audience. Just some thoughts.

Re: iCloud on a Windows machine

2012-11-12 Thread Marcy Weinberg
Hello, Sieghard,

This information is very valuable, and I thank you for typing it out.

Once you are signed in on your PC, how do you make sure that the items you want
to be syncing to your devices through iCloud are on, such as reminders,
calendars, and the rest? The buttons telling if the item is on or off don't
seem to be there as they are on the iOS devices.

Thank you for any directions you may have about this!

Hi Scott,
I wouldn't quite go that far, as I stated in my previous message, you can
learn to do quite a bit on iCloud.com with the Jaws cursor and knowing how
to fully utilize Jaws on websites, but it does take a bit of practice and it
helps to have some sighted help explaining the first time around what's
going on.

For example, when I first go to iCloud.com and go to the "Sign In" button
nothing happens if I press enter or space bar. However, if I route the Jaws
cursor to the PC cursor and then do a single left click I get the edit
fields for my Apple Id and password. Enter your Apple Id, then your password
and press enter and it will sign you in.

I just signed in and, for example, went to Reminders. I was able to once
again use the Jaws cursor to click on it and I can see my Reminders. I could
click on a Reminder, then was able to click the Details button with the Jaws
cursor and it then gave me the options to Delete or click "Done" since that
particular reminder happened yesterday, but I hadn't marked it as Done. I
clicked Delete with the Jaws cursor and the reminder was gone from my iPhone
as well as iCloud.

Now, after that I was not able to get out of the Reminders area on iCloud so
I had to close it and log back in. Then I went to "Find my iPhone" and I was
once again able to use the Jaws cursor, click on "Devices", I then got a "My
Devices" and after clicking on that I saw "Sieghard's iPhone" and it told me
it had been located 4 minutes ago which is probably when I signed in to
iCloud. Once I got to that I had buttons I could click for "Play Sound",
"Erase iPhone" which obviously I did not try and a few others I can't
recall. I clicked the "Play Sound" button and my iPhone which was next to me
started dinging away.

I don't use Mail or Contacts, but it definitely is possible to use iCloud to
some extend. Of course I also wish Apple would make the iCloud.com website
fully accessible, but I definitely get less from a silent movie without
audio description.

Regards,
Sieghard

Neil,

I read the article before I sent my earlier message. Sitting on our
duffs and tweeting does not hold entities accountable to third
parties. Only a court can order a company to provide accessibility or
face significant penalties. Beyond that, I like Joe’s idea of joining
an Applevis app access campaign or folks posting reviews and articles
on mainstream technology websites.

Re: A stance against inaccessibility...

2012-11-12 Thread Robert Fenton
Hello everybody:

I think we shoul be caut ious about dampening peoples enthusiasm about pursuing
advocacy efforts in the manner that they choose to do. While a twitter campaign
does not have any legal significance, it does provide a vehicle for causing
corporations to feel public pressure that their goods, wares and services do
not meet publicly accepted standards of accessibility. From my perspective, I
am pleased that the campaign has been initiated and I applaud Neil for his
efforts. I also agree that the approach proposed by others is also reasonable.
Let's not get wrapped up in the fact that only courts can initiate change on
accessibility. Public pressure is a good vehicle also. This is coming from a
lawyer who favors the court system anyway, (smile).

Thank you Bob, it was beginning to feel a little negative. Given I got an award
for thousands of blind people in 2009 for Wayfinder Access from Vodafone, that
pay out was worth more than a million Euros, and I did it with nothing more
than social media and our own peer pressure.

Suddenly though folk seem to think its not worth it, it saddens me a lot.

RE: Netatmo Indoor/Outdoor Weather Station

2012-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jorgen,

Thanks a lot for posting this. I must simply have a defective unit then
because I have tried and tried again by myself and with sighted help and the
weather station just won’t connect to my WiFi. It sees the network and as
soon as I enter my password (which by the way I did make sure I type
correctly) it fails to connect.

I’ll see what Netatmo has to say now that the weekend is over. I noticed
already in demo mode that the app seemed somewhat accessible and I
appreciate you telling me about the High and Low temperatures. Have you
written to them about making their app more accessible?

Hello Sieghard

I have also bought a netatmo wether station.

I have no sighted help, but Using the OCR feature in the jaws and several
hours of attempts, I got Netatmo weather station set up.

After that i can use my netatmo weatherstation on my Iphone,

I can read out the humidity and temperatur, as well as other measurements
such as weather station measures, but the interface is a little cluttered on
the

iPhone with VoiceOver. It is not possible to read the graph with the highest
and lowest temperature.

Best regards

Hello List,

A couple of weeks ago I briefly mentioned that I found a weather station
which is designed to work with the iPhone. The company is called Netatmo and
their website is www.Netatmo.com for those who
want to read more about it.

The basic idea is that you get a wireless weather station which consists of
2 sensors, one for indoors and one for outdoors. The outdoor sensor connects
to the indoor unit and the indoor unit connects to your WiFi. You then use
the free Netatmo app to access the information provided by the sensors which
includes outdoor temperature and humidity, indoor temperature, humidity and
carbon monoxide levels as well as indoor and outdoor noise levels which is a
bit unusual for weather stations, but I guess it could be interesting if you
live in a big city and are curious as to how much noise there really is.

Currently the station does not measure windspeed and precipitation, but I
was told that they are working on that and I assume this may be added later
in the form of additional sensors you can buy. The 2 sensor units consist of
a perfectly round tube which is made from aluminum, both are exactly the
same diameter (about 2 inches), the outdoor unit is maybe 4 inches long and
the indoor unit is maybe 6 inches long. Each unit has a plastic lid on one
end with a large slot you can use ith a coin and this is where you put the
batteries (it’s almost identical to the battery cover on the Apple Wireless
Keyboard except that it’s a lot bigger. The outdoor unit takes 4 Triple A
batteries (included), the indoor unit takes 4 Double A batteries (not
included). Normally it is recommended that the indoor unit is plugged into a
power outlet, it has a micro USB port and comes with a standard USB cable
and a wall adapter, batteries are optional and meant for backup in case of a
power failure. In addition to the Micro USB port the indoor unit also has a
USB port like that on a computer which allows you to plug in the iPhone
cable.

Initial setup is done either by plugging your iPhone directly into the unit
while it is also plugged into a power outlet, you then open the app and can
connect the unit to your home WiFi (this is just necessary once just like
when you connect, for example, a WiFi Thermostat. You can also do this
initial setup by connecting the unit to your computer and then use a Network
Setup Wizard which you can download from the Netatmo website.

OK, all of this sounds very good and straight forward. However, now comes
the problem. Both the Network Wizard as well as the setup screen on the
Netatmo app are entirely graphical, neither Jaws nor Voiceover reads
anything whatsoever except for the title of the Window “Netatmo Setup
Wizard” or something like that.

I used the Convenient OCR feature in Jaws and was able to read the welcome
screen which basically says Thanks for buying the weather station and there
is a next button which I was able to click. Then the OCR gave me a list of
available networks and I tried to click my WiFi which was there, but I did
not get into the edit field where I could enter my password or maybe I did
and Jaws didn’t say it because when I repeated the procedure with sighted
help Jaws said nothing like “edit field” but my friend told me I could type
the password.

So I finally typed in my password with sighted help and was looking forward
to getting this connected to see if the app would give me information
Voiceover could read, but the Wizard then told me the station

Hello everybody:

I think we shoul be caut ious about dampening peoples enthusiasm about
pursuing advocacy efforts in the manner that they choose to do. While a
twitter campaign does not have any legal significance, it does provide a
vehicle for causing corporations to feel public pressure that their goods,
wares and services do not meet publicly accepted standards of accessibility.

RE: Is There An App That Tells How Much Rain Has Fallen?

2012-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Wren,

You should be able to find precipitation amounts on most of the good weather
sites, I am in Canada and use the official Environment Canada government
website on th computer and on the iPhone I use Degrees which is an app that
also uses the information from Environment Canada.

Their forecast starts with the current conditions (temperature, cloud cover,
humidity, windspeed, felt temperature etc.) Then they give the 7-day
forecast and underneath that they show historical data from the day before
(minimum and maximum temperature as well as the amount of precipitation.

I have just the other posted about a WiFi connected weather station called
Netatmo which consists of an indoor unit which connects to your WiFi and an
outdoor unit/sensor which connects wirelessly to the indoor unit. Currently
the Netatmo station does not include a rainfall sensor/gauge, but I was told
they are planning to add that down the road as well as a windspeed sensor.
Somebody else posted a note today that they also bought the Netatmo weather
station and that the app is accessible as far as reading temperature and
humidity, but a bit cluttered and not accessible for reading minimum and
maximum temperature.

Sieghard

Re: Vuescan

2012-11-12 Thread Esther
Hi Cheryl,

There's an old and rather long post of mine on using the Vuescan app
in combination with an OCR app in the archives. Here's the link:
• OCR with iOS devices with the Vuescan app and wireless scanner
http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone%40googlegroups.com/msg07647.html

The Vuescan Mobile app works with most wireless Canon, Epson, and HP
scanners. The current device list is given at:
http://www.hamrick.com/mob.html#supported-scanners

There's a free, lite version of the app you can use to check whether
your scanner works, since your model may work even if it's not on the
supported list. Unfortunately, the free version doesn't support
selecting high resolution for scans, which is what you need to get
good results for OCR programs.

I used an HP D110a wireless all-in-one printer. I don't recommend this
from an accessibility point of view, but it basically came free from
when Apple was still doing printer promotions with computer purchases,
and when a friend bought a MacBook Air. The first generation AirPrint
compatible HP wireless printers have touch screens for setup and no
feedback about the buttons and screen content. However, if you get
sighted help to set up the network address and configuration, the
software controls through your Mac or iOS device work pretty well.

I don't think this setup is a replacement for having a good scanning
program with numerous options on your computer, but for a lot of
things that only require a quick scan of a few pages so the content is
on your iOS device, this can be convenient. You do need to also use
an OCR app like Prizmo or ABBYY TextGrabber that can process input
from the camera roll. This should also work for devices that don't
have good enough cameras for OCR -- like earlier iPod Touch or iPad
models, assuming they have the OCR apps. I think of this as more of a
convenience for occasional use, because I'm doing more with apps and
content on my iPhone.

I know Scott Howell has tried this with the scanner on his HP wireless
printer. The best scanners are still the flatbeds, and may not have
wireless options. I'd be interested if there are good wireless scanner
options.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

braille sense u2 qwerty with iPhone?

Hi all,
Does anybody know if it is possible to use the u2 qwerty model as both a

the various corded keys for accomplishing various tasks. With a qwerty model,
you don't have those, and I'm guessing that the regular keyboard won't be
picked up as such because of the pairing method, done via the settings in the
vo section rather than via the bluetooth settings section, where you normally
pair a keyboard. Hope that's clear and look forward to a definitive answer.

Did you try double tapping the video you want? If nothing happens after you do

It used to work that way for me but they’ve updated the app recently.
I see the photo button and can tap that. The app then displays a place to
write in text and there’s a button that says library and the vidios are shown
but nothing that says post to facebook or anything like that.

I did this just last week. If I remember right, you just go to Face Book and
near the top of the screen you will hear, if you swipe from the top a photo
button. Double tap that. It will ask if you want to take a photo or add from
library. Even though it's saying photo, it will handle videos as well. Double
tap add from library, then it will open the photos and you choose where the
photo is you want to add to face book..

Hi all,
Does anybody know if it is possible to use the u2 qwerty model as both a
display and input device for i-devices, as is possible with the braille
input model? It is clearly possible to pair the device using bluetooth, but
all the Apple instructions for braille display interaction assume braille

Re: A stance against inaccessibility...

2012-11-12 Thread Garry Turkington
Hi all,

Firstly thanks to Neil for approaching this in the way he has.
Whenever I engage with a technology or service provider on
accessibility issues I always initially push it as something that they
should want to do. Past that point it moves into them doing it
because it isn't something they want to be publically known for not
doing. And only lastly do I try to lean on the legal angles; if the
focus is on legalities from day 1 then I worry that problems of
compliance to the exact letter of the law becomes the goal and often
that's really not the ideal.

So yes I concur that the legal avenues have their utility but I
commend Neil on engaging with Sonus over such an extended period and
using non-trivial amounts of his own time in trying to work with the
company. But if after being shown the issues over an extended period
the company still makes the decision not to address them -- ignorance
of inaccessibility is no longer a defence -- then a social media
campaign is completely warranted.

Re: Netatmo Indoor/Outdoor Weather Station

2012-11-12 Thread Søren Jensen
Hi Cieghard.

Your issue on connecting your weather station to your Apple router reminds me
of one of the issues a friend of mine had a while ago:
He couldn't connect any of his computers wirelessly because his router was set
to use IP version 6 instead IP version 4. Some Apple routers does enable IP
version 6 as default, which some devices don't support.
YOu could try to make some research on that to see if it solve any issues.

RE: braille sense u2 qwerty with iPhone?

2012-11-12 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Mary,
Have you asked HIMS about this?
I don't have access to the QWERTY model so I can't test it.
I suspect it may be like the BrailleNote in that keys f,d,s,j,k,l become the
braille input keys, but I'm not sure.

Subject: braille sense u2 qwerty with iPhone?

Hi all,
Does anybody know if it is possible to use the u2 qwerty model as both a
display and input device for i-devices, as is possible with the braille
input model? It is clearly possible to pair the device using bluetooth, but
all the Apple instructions for braille display interaction assume braille
input, hence the various corded keys for accomplishing various tasks. With a
qwerty model, you don't have those, and I'm guessing that the regular
keyboard won't be picked up as such because of the pairing method, done via
the settings in the vo section rather than via the bluetooth settings
section, where you normally pair a keyboard. Hope that's clear and look
forward to a definitive answer.

Mary

Fleksy and iPad Mini

2012-11-12 Thread Robert Fenton
Hello everybody:

I took the plunge and bought an iPad mini this week. I have now installed
Fleksy and I am having difficulties using the program on this device. First, I
am having difficulty finding the place on the screen where we can and large the
application on the screen to take advantage of the iPad's larger size. Next, I
am finding that the area used by Fleksy does not always appear in the same spot
on the screen. Finally, when I need to change the word that Fleksy produces, I
am finding that by flicking downwards the options are not changing. What pieces
of advice can iPad users give me when using this product? I am very new to this
device so please be patient with me.

Thank you as always for your assistance.

Re: braille sense u2 qwerty with iPhone?

2012-11-12 Thread Mary Otten

Hi Richard,
I had a query in to Hims but asked here at the same time, figuring they might
be out for the holiday. Turns out they must be open, but the response I got was
not entirely clear. You don't use the s d f etc keys to make braille dots as
you do with the Apex qwerty. But with respect to navigation equivalents and
functionality equivalent to the space plus braille dot combinations, the
response was basically vague. It is apparently hit and miss and doesn't make
much sense, but they're working on it. I didn't get any specific examples. The
controls on the display itself apparently work the same. So this is apparently
a real work in progress. Hims also recommends putting the u2 into grade 1 mode
when entering text because of the well known issue with Apple back translating
letters if you pause at the wrong place. That seems really unfortunate with a
qwerty keyboard, where you're not typing braille.

Re: braille sense u2 qwerty with iPhone?

2012-11-12 Thread don bishop

Hi Mary,

Yes the qwerty keyboard actually works quite well as an input device.
You're right about setting the u2 to uncontracted braille. As for the
commands, I'm not sure of them all because documentation is poor for
braille input anyway, and even worse for braille qwerty input, but the
keys I've found to work for executing commands are a combination of a
key on the keyboard and the fn key. Not sure if the windows key works
for some commands or not.

Honestly, I haven't played with itt all that much but I have played a
bit with my u2 qwerty and iphone4s under ios6.

Hopefully someone will document this stoff someday.

Re: Focus 40 Blue Classic or New model?

2012-11-12 Thread Scott Davert
I agree that the newer keyboard is nicer to type on, and also a bit
more quiet than the first version of the 40 blue. Also, it should be
noted that the wizwheels no longer exist with the latest models, but
they have scroll buttons which I think are better once you get used to
them. This is all a matter of opinion as to whether the newer model is
an improvement, so I'd certainly keep asking around to see if others
have a different view.

Re: Deactivation question.

2012-11-12 Thread Esther
Hi Jim and Others,

There actually is a way to tell Apple that you no longer consider a
device to be owned by you. That's by using the MySupportProfile page
and logging in with your AppleID. It's really something that everyone
should be doing with their Apple devices, because it contains a record
of the serial numbers and model specifications of your products, as
well as support case history. In fact, I think that for the last half
year or more, when you set up a new iOS device, you're forced to enter
the registration information there when you start up a new product.

Apart from specific links to product-specific alerts and
documentation, such as whether a firmware update might be required for
an AirPort wireless unit, this provides a record of your device serial
numbers an specs should your equipment ever get lost or stolen. Jim,
I posted about this on the Mac-access list some months ago, but here's
a Mail Archive link to a macvisionaries list post with similar
information:
• Re: Using your air in public
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg62538.html
For those who don't want to read the post, which also describes apps
like "Find my Mac" and "Find My iPhone", here's the excerpted key, line
and link to the MySupportProfile page:
I highly recommend that everyone register their Apple products
using the MySupportProfile page:
https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do

You can uncheck devices you no longer own. I'm not sure whether this
counts under iTunes devices, but it's a useful feature that's been
around for more than a decade in the U.S., and started being
popularized internationally about 4 years ago, as support for many
more countries was added to this site.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

I would imagine that the keyboard then would follow the VoiceOver keyboard
commands.
The issue would be if there is an equivalent key to the options key, which I
believe is the same as the Windows key, so if you have a Windows key, a
control key and an alt key, you should be able to use it just like using any
blue tooth keyboard.
The Control key is the same on both Windows and mac, the Windows key equals
the Options key and the Alt key equals the Command key.

VoiceOver is Options and Control together, so that should work as Windows
key plus control on the U2.

It will be interesting to see how that does.

Richard

Hi Mary,

Yes the qwerty keyboard actually works quite well as an input device.
You're right about setting the u2 to uncontracted braille. As for the
commands, I'm not sure of them all because documentation is poor for braille
input anyway, and even worse for braille qwerty input, but the keys I've
found to work for executing commands are a combination of a key on the
keyboard and the fn key. Not sure if the windows key works for some
commands or not.

Honestly, I haven't played with itt all that much but I have played a bit
with my u2 qwerty and iphone4s under ios6.

Hopefully someone will document this stoff someday.

I got was not entirely clear. You don't use the s d f etc keys to make
braille dots as you do with the Apex qwerty. But with respect to navigation
equivalents and functionality equivalent to the space plus braille dot
combinations, the response was basically vague. It is apparently hit and
miss and doesn't make much sense, but they're working on it. I didn't get
any specific examples. The controls on the display itself apparently work
the same. So this is apparently a real work in progress. Hims also
recommends putting the u2 into grade 1 mode when entering text because of
the well known issue with Apple back translating letters if you pause at the
wrong place. That seems really unfortunate with a qwerty keyboard, where
you're not typing braille.

If you go into the section of iTunes on your computer where you sign into
your account when you go past music and all that stuff in the store, there is
a list of all the devices and computers that are authorized, and you can
remove devices . I did that with my old phone.

Uninstalling apps from my iPhone and not my iPad

2012-11-12 Thread Karl Smith
My daughters recently discovered my iPad and have downloaded a bunch of apps
such as Disney Princes and Barbie stuff. After setting both my iPhone and
iPad together on the charger near my wireless router I suddenly discover all
these things on my iPhone. I wonder can I uninstall them from my iPhone
without them disappearing from the iPad and will they stay gone or will they
sync again to my iPhone? Thanks for any help.

Re: Trouble creating shortcuts

The only thing I can think of, is it possible there is a character limit on

So far, when I have created my shortcuts, I have used a symbol to start them.
Something I don't tend to use, like the carrot symbol. I use carrot O to
expand into my email address.

Good luck,

searching in ooTunes & tuneInRadio

2012-11-12 Thread Traci
Hey all,

I have both these apps, and I think I'm getting confused in how I go about
searching inside them.

In ooTunes, I can actually get a search field to come up, and search in any
mean I want. I thought I could do the same thing in tuneInRadio, however I
can't find this search field anymore.

Am I mixing up these apps? Was there never a search field available in tuneIn?

Thanks,

Re: Uninstalling apps from my iPhone and not my iPad

2012-11-12 Thread David Chittenden
Yes, you can uninstall them from one and they will remain on the other. If you
sync via iTunes, iTunes will uncheck the box for each app that you uninstall
from the current device so that said device does not install it again. I
believe iCloud does something similar.

iPhone vs. iPad

2012-11-12 Thread Joe
Yeah, don't shoot me for asking the same question others have already asked.
I do have a very specific aspect though. I already have an iPhone. I think I
have found a good combination of apps to help me do document editing during
my commute with my Apple Bluetooth keyboard. I want to know if an iPad would
in any way enhance my experience.

1. Is document editing going to be faster?

2. What about switching between apps?

3. Is it possible to use Command + Tab to switch between apps on the iPad,
or is it still necessary to go through the App Switcher? Dumb questions I
know, but I'm picky that way.

I would really appreciate your advice and thoughts. I get most of what I
want on the iPhone. I would take my own advice of just buying an Air to get
the full experience, but laptops aren't allowed at my work site. Ironically,
iPads are allowed in limited circumstances. Thanks in advance.

Re: Uninstalling apps from my iPhone and not my iPad

2012-11-12 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello Karl, if you connect the device to the PC or Mac and look in the
apps section under devices in iTunes there is a check box to
automatically sync new apps. If this is checked, then new apps will be
added to both devices. So, for example what I do is have them unchecked
for all my devices. Now if my daughter or my wife gets an app on either
of their devices, they won't automatically show up on my iPhone.
Likewise, if I get an app, it won't show up on their iPhones as well.
This way we can all use the same Apple ID and still keep apps separate
from each other. If we want to have similar apps such as the AnyList app
which we recently purchased, then we just choose it from apps, or
install it from the App Store and we are good to go.

Hope this helps.

RE: iPhone vs. iPad

2012-11-12 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,
I'm answering in context of your questions.

Yeah, don't shoot me for asking the same question others have already asked.
Bang! (Just kidding.)
I do have a very specific aspect though. I already have an iPhone. I think
I have found a good combination of apps to help me do document editing
during my commute with my Apple Bluetooth keyboard. I want to know if an
iPad would in any way enhance my experience.

1. Is document editing going to be faster?

Not in my experience.

2. What about switching between apps?

The only difference that I can see is that there is a gesture to bring up
the app switcher on the iPad and then a gesture for switching between apps.
Four finger swipe up opens the app switcher and then four finger swipe left
or right will flick through the apps in the app switcher. You might save a
few seconds, but is that worth the expense? That is up to you.

3. Is it possible to use Command + Tab to switch between apps on the iPad,
or is it still necessary to go through the App Switcher?

Same as on the iPhone.

Dumb questions I know, but I'm picky that way.

The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked.

Richard

Re: Music app not always in app switcher

2012-11-12 Thread Chuck Dean
If you double click the home button to open the app switcher, and do a
three finger swipe right on the screen, the music controls will be on
the bottom. Do a three finger swipe left to return to the app
switcher.
