RE: deleting Skype items
I don't know, but I assume a voice mail will show up in the Recent list, anyhow, just give it a try, there are only 2 possible outcomes, either it will work or it won't. I'm not saying this to be sarcastic, but it certainly won't do anything bad if you try it. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Ray T. Re: Booking.com Update with Voiceover improvement - fantastic!!!
hi Sieghard, Thanks for communicating with this developer. Yes, this app is outstanding now. We are planning a trip for next January, and I expect we will use this app to book our hotels. And yes, the list generated from a search is totally accessible. Les On Jun 17, 2013, at 3:33 PM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hello, A while back I posted my very positive experience contacting Booking.com who offer over 300,000 hotels via their website and app. I wrote to them and mentioned that the app worked well, but that the search results list was almost unuseable with Voiceover since it was extremely sluggish, you couldn’t flick through the list of results and touching the screen in different places did work, but it was sluggish and often unreliable and repeated a lot of information. I initially contacted them about a month ago, in Mid May. I received a prompt reply that my feedback would be passed on to their development team. About a week later the same person reported that the development team would look into this and again a week or 10 days later (about 2 weeks ago) the same person again send me a message without me asking saying that improvements had been made and would be available in the upcoming update. The update took a while, but this morning it was in the app store and I downloaded it right away and did a search for hotels in Vancouver. I am very happy to say that now the list of search results works perfectly, it is fast and you can right flick through the list, Voiceover reads the hotel name and the starting price of the room rates it found for the date you entered. You can then double tap on a hotel, often there is more information given and even in the prior version, once you got to that point actually making a reservation was no problem. Booking.com does also work with Passbook and I find this very handy since after I make a booking I can add it to Passbook and when I get to the hotel I can, if necessary, just pull up the booking confirmation. This is another example of a large company being very responsive and I hope everybody who travels on a regular bases for pleasure or business and who needs to make hotel reservations will give the Booking.com app a try and hopefully take a few minutes to give them a good rating with a comment that they are a happy Voiceover user of the app. Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. iPhone 5 Case recommendation
Hi, all. I realize this case for iPhone discussion has taken place before, but I'm running into an unforeseen issue, and I'm hoping I can get some recommendations. I purchased a set of 10 inexpensive TPU cases from Amazon.com. As far as I could tell, the cases would work perfectly for my phone, and they did except for one issue. The headphone access is so narrow that only the ear buds from Apple or other very narrow headphones can be used with them. I have other headphones that I prefer due to comfort and sound and they absolutely will not connect to the phone when it is in this case. It appears as if the diameter of the part of the headphone you use to connect is too large to fit into the port opening. I'm not speaking of the actual headphone jack, all of my phones are 3.5 mm jacks. I'm speaking of the connection the jack is attached to, Sometimes this is an L shape, and sometimes it's just a straight cylindrical portion blending into the cable itself. I have both types of varying diameter, all larger than the Apple ear bud things. I could get the headphones semi-connected, but I really had to force the jack into the connector, and the connection wasn't solid. I was afraid I'd hurt the phone, so stopped and removed the phone from the case. I tried inserting the connector into the slot on the empty case and it barely fit, but this was without the phone pulling the case tight, and there's not much give in the TPU material anyway once it's stretched over the phone. I managed to trim off a portion of the case to work with my various wider diameter headphones, but this is obviously not a desirable solution. The cases in question are the ColorYourLife 10pcs 3D Paw Print Snug-fit Flexible TPU Cases Skins Covers for iPhone 5 which you can read about at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A1C4R10/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8psc=1. I really love these things as compared to the Otterbox Defender case. They're easy to put on and take off, and they come in 10 different colors and really complement the iPhone. Plus they've got the really cute paw prints. grin Yes, the Otterbox protects the phone, but it also makes it huge and very bulky. Not to mention a royal pain to remove and put on the phone. Are there any lightweight, relatively inexpensive TPU cases that will address my issue with the headphone? Lisa If I want to hear the pitter patter of little feet I'll put shoes on my Dog! RE: Stylus or pen of any use for VoiceOver users?
Hi Ricardo, The touch screen on an iPhone is a capacitive touch screen which does not react to the moisture in your skin but to electrical conductivity. Skin and the human body as a whole is conductive. A stylus is made from material which transfer the conductivity of your finger/body through the material of the stylus to the touch screen. This is the same principal as is found in touch screen friendly gloves which also exist and it is also the same as when I put my iPhone into a zip lock bag so I can use my recipe app in the kitchen and use it with fingers that are greasy, wet, full of flour etc. After all, you can still use your phone when it's in a Lifeproof case which covers the screen with a relatively thick piece of plastic. RE: iPhone 5 Case recommendation
Hi Lisa, I have cases where the same thing happens, the headphone jack on the Earpods is super slim. I know this is not a case alternative, but I personally would probably ask a sighted person to enlarge the opening on the cases carefully and in a way so it would not look like it shouldn't be this way from the start. This way you can still colour your life with all the different cases and cute pawprints. Regards, Sieghard -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Lisa belville Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 6:10 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: iPhone 5 Case recommendation Hi, all. The cases in question are the ColorYourLife 10pcs 3D Paw Print Snug-fit Flexible TPU Cases Skins Covers for iPhone 5 which you can read about at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A1C4R10/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UT F8psc=1. This is the same principal as is found in touch screen friendly gloves which also exist and it is also the same as when I put my iPhone into a zip lock bag so I can use my recipe app in the kitchen and use it with fingers that are greasy, wet, full of flour etc. After all, you can still use your phone when it's in a Lifeproof case which covers the screen with a relatively thick piece of plastic. a small observation about using Siri.
Hi, For those using Siri: do you ever find that Siri just can't hear a particular word? For example, i asked Siri to Translate the word languid into italian, but Siri could only hear me say translate the word language into italian. Now, here's the thing, i never noticed before that when Siri tells me what i have said, is in an edit field. So, i just doubletapped on it, and edited language into languid and voila! it worked. This could save me a million attempts to get Siri to understand less common words. Probably, you all knew this, but it was a useful find for me. HTH Sandy. RE: Keyboard question
Hi Shane, I wouldn't say I use it a lot, but it is fun to occasionally insert an emoji into a text message or email. When I was in Thailand we went to a place called Tiger Kingdom where you get to go right into the habitat where the tigers are and you can sit down next to them and touch them and when I texted a friend that Today I had a tiger by the tail I inserted a tiger from the animals/nature section of the emoji keyboard at the end of my message. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Shane clark Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 6:34 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Keyboard question So as blind people, do you find that you use this keyboard a lot? RE: a small observation about using Siri.
Thanks for this awesome tip. I didn't relize there was an edit box there either. Verse of the Week and Thought: 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Thought: In one area or another, we're all blind when it comes to our own sin. It's much more comfortable to look at someone else and point to their transgressions. Selfish love covers our own sin, while true unconditional love will look more honestly at our own sin and overlook the offenses of others. Where love is in abundance, people are quickly forgiven. Prayer: “O merciful God, fill our hearts, we pray, with the graces of your Holy Spirit; with love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. Teach us to love those who hate us; to pray for those who despitefully use us; that we may be the children of your love, our Father, who makes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. In adversity grant us grace to be patient; in prosperity keep us humble; may we guard the door of our lips; may we lightly esteem the pleasures of this world, and thirst after heavenly things; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Prayer of Anselm, 1033-1109 AD) Psalm 98:1-4 1 O sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. 2 The LORD has made known his victory, he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. 4 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! HTH Sandy. Re: Syncing music from iPhone to iTunes and app recommendations
I'm no expert on this, but when I purchase music on my iPhone the music is downloaded to my iPhone. In iTunes on the PC there is a recently purchased item, go in there and you will see a list of recently purchased music. Do a right click on that and one of the chhoices is to download that song to your PC. I recently got an iTunes gift card for $10. I am considering getting some music through the iTunes app on my iPhone 5, but am wondering if those songs will be synced to my computer the next time I connect my phone? I don't consider myself an iTunes expert on the Windows 7 PC I have, and actually try to use iTunes as little as possible other than keeping things synced and updated, so straight forward answers would be appreciated. I set my computer to sync any/all music from the specified folder to my phone. However, if I buy some songs or an album on the phone, will those songs be added to the computer? And if so, would they be in MP3 format or another proprietary Apple format? I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4 and Windows 7 on my PC. AS if all this weren't enough, I am also looking for some useful app recommendations. I know about Voice Dream Reader, but as of yet I don't have a use for that app since I don't read a lot of documents on my phone. I like apps that perform a purpose or are challenging in some way, like the iAssociate 2 game someone recommended to me sometime ago. Ideas? My mom uses the stylist for typing. She has a lot of trouble figuring out the keyboard any other way. The stylist gives her more control. Her nails might also get in the way. LOL. Ideas? Re: Question re the Kindal ap.
Hey, jennifer, I wanted to address this real quick. You can go to www.amazon.com/kindlestore and it will open the mobile site. to get to it quickly I went into my utilities and added the site to my homescreen but to shop you just go to the kindle store mobile site, and go from there. As far as switching pages using a braille display it's Chord O or Chord O W or, 1 3 5, or 2 4 6 with the space bar and it will advance pages or reverse pages. Hope this helps and happy reading. I'm a book nubt too so anything I can do to help let me know. Take care and talk to you soon. On Jun 18, 2013, at 7:12 AM, Jenifer Barr wrote: Hi all. device not recognized
As you know I got the bluetooth earpiece http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0092KJ9BU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1371517094sr=8-1 Pared with the phone quite nicely in fact it was the most painless paring I have ever seen and we can add one more voice to the list as this earpiece talks. I am not used to this magnetic charge connector but it appears to work. Now just when I thought I had my thumb on this earpiece, Murphy appeared. He appeared when I tried to connect the earpiece to the laptop. The voyager legend allows you to control and update settings through a software tool however when I connect the earpiece to the computer I got an error message stating that the drivers failed to install and that the device is not recognized. I was not able to find the drivers on the plantronics site but that may be down to my not knowing what I am looking for. Does anyone use this earpiece and have you had a similar problem? Hi, For those using Siri: do you ever find that Siri just can't hear a particular word? For example, i asked Siri to Translate the word languid into italian, but Siri could only hear me say translate the word language into italian. Now, here's the thing, i never noticed before that when Siri tells me what i have said, is in an edit field. So, i just doubletapped on it, and edited language into languid and voila! it worked. This could save me a million attempts to get Siri to understand less common words. Probably, you all knew this, but it was a useful find for me. HTH Sandy. RE: Kindle help.
Hi Jen, I am using an Apex, so I need to use the pass through keystroke of dots 4-5-6, enter key, followed by the O cord (without the quotes) to turn a page. In the Kindle app on the home page, the setting optin is located there. Once in the setting menu, there is an option called page turn animation. This is a toggle. I just toggled this on to see if it would effect the continuous reading of the Kindle, but it didn't. Have you figured out how to turn off the continuous reading feature in the Kindle? Currently, when I used the above keystroke, the Kindle app will begin to continuously read the text. I use a two-finger single tap to hush it up. HTH. Re: Kindle help.
Hi Jennifer, When you get to the bottom of a page, press Space with O to go to the next one. Many brialle displays have other commands for this as well. for example, on my Focus 40 Blue, pressing down on the right rocker switch moves me to the next page. This is the equivalent of swiping left with 3 fingers. Best, Anna On Jun 18, 2013, at 8:32 AM, Jenifer Barr claudas...@gmail.com wrote: Hi all. how do we switch pages in this ap? Re: Message about temperature of iPod
Here in the desert where the temperatures in the summer can get into the hundred and teens, I was listening to the news on my iPhone when I got a warning message that my iPhone was getting to hot and the phone would automatically shut down if the temperature got to hot and to place my phone in a cooler area such as in the shade or indoors so it will take steps to protect it's self. - Original Message - From: Sieghard Weitzel To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, June 17, 2013 3:29 PM Subject: RE: Message about temperature of iPod Hi Tara and others, The following is according to a support article I found: Operate iOS devices where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life or cause the device to alter its behavior to regulate its temperature. Here is the link to the entire article from Apple about the cooling down message: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2101 If you live in certain States I am sure it often can be above 95F and it's probably important at least to make sure the device is not in direct sunlight when it's very hot. On the other side where I live it's almost always below 32F from November to March and when it's really cold as in 0F or less I always have my phone inside my jacket near my body., in any case, my phone never vibrated as a sign it was cold *smile*. An update on my daughter's phone issues
First I'd like to thank everyone for the ideas and suggestions. As it turns out, it was apple support who ended up solving the problem by first having her restore the phone to factory defaults. Then the support tech stepped her through uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it which fixed the problem. Sometimes it's the most basic things that fix the problem. Re: a small observation about using Siri.
Oh Boy, Don't Get Me STARTED!!! My Mother's maiden name is Visocky so, naturally, I have a number of cousins with that last name. But no matter how painstakingly I enunciate Visocky, Siri cannot get it right! I've resorted to listing the diminutive versions of my cousins' first names; i.e., Tommy instead of Tom, Kenny instead of Ken, Patsy instead of Pat, Annie instead of Ann. If my cousins ever saw my Contacts list my hide wouldn't be worth a plug nickel! But I've done this little trick because, naturally, there are several Tom's, Ken's, Pat's and Ann's in my contacts. Siri also has trouble recognizing my Sister's last name (Tudjen) and one of my nieces still has that surname, but I've figured out to pronounce that last name so Siri gets it. HTH Sandy. Re: Booking.com Update with Voiceover improvement - fantastic!!!
Yes, that should find it. When I look for the app, I just typed in the word booking and it sounded on the first shot. As far as what the app does, it allows you to search for hotels based on a destination you specified. You can choose your date will check in and check out, everything is accessible. Once you've completed your criteria, a list we've robbed of the hotels that match your search criteria. It's a great app. Les Sent from my iPhone On Jun 18, 2013, at 2:08 PM, Brian Miller brianrmille...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, So is this app available in the Apple App store? If so, what is it called? RE: Booking.com Update with Voiceover improvement - fantastic!!!
Hi Brian and Jeff, Sorry if this sounds somewhat sarcastic, but since I painstakingly explained how I contacted Booking.com, how they offer over 300,000 hotels through their service and how well they responded and fixed the app where app is the important word, yes, this is an app that is available in the app store. If you had gone to the App Store on your phone and typed Booking.com in the search field, it would have been your first result. I just timed myself doing this and it took me about 30 seconds from unlocking my phone to loading the app store and doing the search. The search result says: Booking.com, hotel reservations for 310,000 + Hotels You could also have gone to Google and typed in Booking.com on iTunes, that search including clicking on the App Store link was less than 10 seconds. OK, I really do apologize for not simply saying Sorry, I should have provided the app description, the fact it is free along with a link and tutorial on how to use it, but sometimes it really would be nice if people actually did just a small bit of work themselves. Anyhow, here is the app store link, but I won't paste the description here, you can read it by following the link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/booking.com-hotel-reservations/id367003839?m t=8 Regards, Sieghard From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Brian Miller Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 11:09 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Booking.com Update with Voiceover improvement - fantastic!!! You can then double tap on a hotel, often there is more information given and even in the prior version, once you got to that point actually making a reservation was no problem. http://Booking.com Booking.com does also work with Passbook and I find this very handy since after I make a booking I can add it to Passbook and when I get to the hotel I can, if necessary, just pull up the booking confirmation. This is another example of a large company being very responsive and I hope everybody who travels on a regular bases for pleasure or business and who needs to make hotel reservations will give the http://Booking.com Booking.com app a try and hopefully take a few minutes to give them a good rating with a comment that they are a happy Voiceover user of the app.
Re: any way to close speaker while calling
Here's how I do it and maybe it'll be of use to you. I don't like voice-over talking wile I'm on a call. So, if I'm receiving a call, I'll use a 2 finger double tap to answer the call and then a 3 finger double tap to toggle speech off. The only thing you have to remember is to do the 3 finger double tap again to toggle speech back on and of course, the 2 finger double tap is also a toggle meaning you can use it to hang up as well as to answer the call. I will do the 2 finger double tap to answer the phone and before I put the phone to my ear, I've already done the 3 finger double tap to turn off speech. Periodic table app accessibility query
Hi all, I have a blind student who needs to use voice over on the iPad three. His science teacher has recommended a periodic table app. Unfortunately, I know no more information than this, i.e. Name or company ETC. Does anybody have any experience of whether there is an app for the periodic table which is voice over compatible? I don't want to bother getting it if it's not going to be any good… And the teacher concerned would never have used it with voice-over so might think everything works. Any thoughts would be welcome. I have recently learnt about this product. I understand that it is a way of incorporating an entire text into a bar code. You then use the app, available on iPhone etc, or an existing piece of software, in the UK, available from sight and sound technology, to read the bar code and work out what the text is inside. Does anyone have any experience of using this? Is it worth looking into and getting? It sounds very intriguing, but potentially, it could be very complicated too! Do a lot of things now automatically use such barcodes? Or is this something you have to set up manually every time? Any thoughts would be very welcome! Hi Kirstin, That sounds like QR codes, here a Wikipedia explanation which mentions Document Management in the second paragraph: QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed for the automotive industry in Japan; a barcode is an optically machine-readable label that is attached to an item and that records information related to that item: The information encoded by a QR code may be made up of four standardized types (modes) of data (numeric, alphanumeric, byte / binary, Kanji) or, through supported extensions, virtually any type of data. The QR Code system has become popular outside the automotive industry due to its fast readability and greater storage capacity compared to standard UPC barcodes. Applications include product tracking, item identification, time tracking, document management, general marketing, and much more. A QR code consists of black modules (square dots) arranged in a square grid on a white background, which can be read by an imaging device (such as a camera) and processed using Reed-Solomon error correction until the image can be appropriately interpreted; data is then extracted from patterns present in both horizontal and vertical components of the image. The QR code system was invented in 1994 by Toyota's subsidiary, Denso Wave. Its purpose was to track vehicles during manufacture; it was designed to allow high-speed component scanning. It has since become one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. Originally designed for industrial uses, QR codes have become common in consumer advertising. Typically, a smartphone is used as a QR-code scanner, displaying the code and converting it to some useful form (such as a standard URL for a website, thereby obviating the need for a user to type it manually into a web browser). In the shopping industry, knowing what causes the consumers to be motivated when approaching products by the use of QR codes, advertisers and marketers can use the behavior of scanning to get consumers to buy, causing it to have the best impact on ad and marketing design. As a result, the QR code has become a focus of advertising strategy, since it provides quick and effortless access to the brand's website. Beyond mere convenience to the consumer, the importance of this capability is that it increases the conversion rate (that is, increases the chance that contact with the advertisement will convert to a sale), by coaxing qualified prospects further down the conversion funnel without any delay or effort, bringing the viewer to the advertiser's site immediately, where a longer and more targeted sales pitch may continue. Although initially used to track parts in vehicle manufacturing, QR codes are now (as of 2012) used over a much wider range of applications, including commercial tracking, entertainment and transport ticketing, product/loyalty marketing (examples: mobile couponing where a company's discounted and percent discount can be captured using a QR code decoder which is a mobile app, or storing a company's information such as address and related information alongside its alpha-numeric text data as can be seen in Yellow Pages directory), and in-store product labeling. It can also be used in storing personal information for use by government. An example of this is Philippines National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) where NBI clearances now come with a QR code. Many of these applications target mobile-phone users (via mobile tagging). Users may receive text, add a vCard contact to their device, open a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), or compose an e-mail or text message after scanning QR codes. They can generate and print their own QR codes for others to scan and use by visiting one of several pay or free QR code-generating sites or apps. Google has a popular API to generate QR codes, and apps for scanning QR codes can be found on nearly all smartphone devices. QR codes storing addresses and Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) may appear in magazines, on signs, on buses, on business cards, or on almost any object about which users might need information. Users with a camera phone equipped with the correct reader application can scan the image of the QR code to display text, contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the telephone's browser. This act of linking from physical world objects is termed hardlinking or object hyperlinking. QR codes also may be linked to a location to track where a code has been scanned. Either the application that scans the QR code retrieves the geo information by using GPS and cell tower triangulation (aGPS) or the URL encoded in the QR code itself is associated with a location. QR codes have been used and printed on Chinese train tickets since 2010 In June 2011, The Royal Dutch Mint (Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt) issued the world's first official coin with a QR code to celebrate the centenary of
RE: any way to close speaker while calling
Hi Alan, This is definitely a good way to get rid of Voiceover temporarily and retain the gestures, but it won't fix the issue the original poster asked about which was to stop the phone call automatically switching to speakerphone. Because a 3-finger double tap doesn't actually unload Voiceover, speakerphone behavior is still the same meaning if you take your phone away from your ear the proximity sensor will detect this and put the call on speaker. For a sighted person this is not standard behavior, if you take your phone away from your ear he call remains on the earpiece until you tap the Speakerphone button which of course is not possible for a blind person without Voiceover. I actually think it would be nice if Apple allows Voiceover users to toggle automatic switching to speakerphone on or off because not everybody wants the call to go to speaker automatically. RE: Booking.com Update with Voiceover improvement - fantastic!!!
Sorry, Brian, I had a hectic morning, usually I would probably have posted the link and an explanation without the comments, thanks for not being offended. One thing to keep in mind is that when you search for an app it is always a good idea to type in whatever you think it is you are looking for and then to double tap Search at the bottom right of the keyboard. As you type in letters, there is a constantly changing list which displays results, but I find that sometimes you get no results that way but as soon as you double tap on Search you do get results in the picker box which is located one swipe to the left of the Featured tab which in turn is at the very bottom left of the screen. One example for this is Tap Tap See, type it in like this with spaces and you get no results in the list right underneath he search field, but tap on Search and it shows up as the first search result. Yes, my experience contacting Booking.com was very good and they were very good at communicating with me and in getting this fixed, it was just 1 month from when I first contacted them until the fixed app was released. There are other apps which also allow you to book hotels and which are accessible like Kayak or Expedia, but I like the fact that Booking.com has the integration with Passbook which none of the others do and also the prices on Booking.com are usually quite good and from what I have seen at least as good as everybody elses. RE: Audible Playing Sample Audio
Are you visiting Audible.com on your iPhone or a computer? If a computer, then which browser and screenreader do you use? If you go to the site in Safari you are automatically directed to mobile.audible.com unless you specifically go to the full site. I just searched for Dan Brown's recently released book Inferno, once the book came up I didn't see anything that said Play this book. On my iPhone Voiceover said Listen to an excerpt, image, this was not indicated as being a link, but a double tap at that point did start playing the sample and another double tap stopped playback. On my computer using Internet Explorer 10 and Jaws 14 the Play a Sample is a flash button and it usually works fine to press enter or the space bar to play/pause. Re: any way to close speaker while calling
You are quite correct. I'm just so use to my Bluetooth ear peace and the phone calls going to it that I no longer even think about it. - Original Message - From: Sieghard Weitzel To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 12:16 PM Subject: RE: any way to close speaker while calling Hi Alan, This is definitely a good way to get rid of Voiceover temporarily and retain the gestures, but it won't fix the issue the original poster asked about which was to stop the phone call automatically switching to speakerphone. You can at that point turn off Voiceover with a triple click home, then put your phone to yor ear and have the conversation without Voiceover and, since Voiceover is not running, taking the phone away from your ear will not put the call on speakerphone. Lastly, if I take the phone away from my ear and don't want the call to switch to speakerphone I simply cover the top part of the phone which means the proximity sensor still thinks the phone is up to my ear and it won't switch to speakerphone. RE: Perhaps slightly OT.voiceye
Hi. If I may jump in, check out this month's AccessWorld. I did a piece about Voicey codes. http://www.afb.org/aw/main.asp -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 3:12 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Perhaps slightly OT.voiceye Hi Kirstin, That sounds like QR codes, here a Wikipedia explanation which mentions Document Management in the second paragraph: QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed for the automotive industry in Japan; a barcode is an optically machine-readable label that is attached to an item and that records information related to that item: The information encoded by a QR code may be made up of four standardized types (modes) of data (numeric, alphanumeric, byte / binary, Kanji) or, through supported extensions, virtually any type of data. Either the application that scans the QR code retrieves the geo

Creating ringtones using iTunes and RMaker
Hello guys, I just wanted to post a way to create ring tones, because as I found out a few days ago iTunes for whatever reason does not allow you to create them strictly through iTunes anymore. The people at Apple told me that I need to use an app calledRMaker to do this, and it works. Here's what I did: First, download RMaker To your phone from theApp Store. From there, open the app and select the song that you want to make into a ringtone. Then, select your Starting and stopping point, and play the tone back, to make sure that it's where you'd like it to be. Then double tap save, and plug your phone into your PC. From here, you want to go to the summary tab, then tab over to the apps checkbox to check it, then tab over to the iTunes file sharing area. You'll hearJaws Say something like these apps can transfer documents and data, tab over til you get to the apps Treeview, and you'll find theRMaker App along with the recent Tone you've created. Tab over to save two, and press enter, and from here, you want to tab over to the list of various folders, andJaws Will say something like iTunes and list of various folders that you can save this tone into. I believe you can save the tone and pretty much any folder you want to, I personally save mind to the tones folder. So select that one, and then leave the iTunes program. Now go to your start menu, and go to your music folder on your PC. Arrow down to iTunes within the music folder, press enter, And arrow down to iTunes media, pressing enter on it. From here, you should see your tones folder, go into that, and the ringtone You just sent it should be there. Press enter on it, and it will begin playing, which in turn will automatically sync it to your iTunes ringtones library. All you have to do to see if it's there, is just go back into iTunes, and navigate to your tones library, and it will be there. I hope this helped those of you that are interested in doing this. Feel free to ask questions if need be, I'll do what I can to help further if possible. Shane. from my iPhone -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Hi all, Using the facebook messenger app, When you look through your friends list, How do you know who's online and who isn't? I see some friends have times next to them such as 1 minute or 2 hours or 11 hours. Is this how long since they were last online? Some friends however have nothing next to their name. No time. You can then double tap on a hotel, often there is more information given and even in the prior version, once you got to that point actually making a reservation was no problem. http://Booking.com Booking.com does also work with Passbook and I find this very handy since after I make a booking I can add it to Passbook and when I get to the hotel I can, if necessary, just pull up the booking confirmation. Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: There should be an app for ...
How about an app that will caption of photographs. Here's what I mean. Let's say I am on vacation and I take a picture of my family in front of the Grand Canyon. Because I can't see the picture later, I want to caption it right away. There should be an app where I can dictate the caption and it will appear below the photograph. Also voice over will be able to read it later. Nancy Badger, Ph.D Assistant Vice Chancellor, Student Services UT Chattanooga Sent from my iPhone with dictation software. In those situations I often think to myself, “There should be an app that does this.” So, somewhat in the spirit of the conversation that was started around using voice recognition features in new ways, here’s a little list of apps that I think would be cool to have. Some of these are doable, and some, are at least a long way off, but this list is more about dreaming up possibilities then about practicality. I’m hoping my list might spark some other folks ideas about apps or other functionality they would like as a blind user to have on their phone. So often, sighted folks have an idea about what they think would be helpful for blind people to have; I think it would be great if we generated the ideas and put them out there. I’m sure it might happen, but I’m not putting this little list out there for zealous nit-picking: “That’s not possible because,” or “that’s ridiculous because,” etc. And I’m also not looking for other ways to accomplish the same tasks. I’m just saying, “Wouldn’t it be cool if I could use my phone to do … “ Ok, that’s my preamble. Here’s my starter list, add your own. 1. Text Id. The idea is for an app that would quickly scan an area and pinpoint whether and where there was text, and then read it. This would be useful, for instance, in finding a address on a building, or a sign behind glass, etc. 2. Am I straight. This wouldn’t be an app for determining one’s sexual orientation, but would be an easy to use leveler. I know there are already a couple of audio levelers out there, and I haven’t checked them recently but I’ve found them a bit tedious to use. Wouldn’t it be nice to hold up your phone and have it tell you “A little higher on the left.” “Ooops, that’s too much.” I realize that this would require having some way to determine that the phone itself was more or less level but … 3. “Does this go with that?” or “Can I go out wearing this?” As color identifiers get better it would be great to have an app that could tell you whether two different colors complimented each other. So you could know if that pink shirt went with those russet pants. 4.“Where’s the pooh,” I read recently that there is now a new external ad on device for Android that offers other kinds of sensory gauges. Wouldn’t it be cool to use something like this to zero in on organic matter. Sometimes, in the night, I’ll hear my cat go through his impressive audio wind up before throwing up a hairball; I’ll get a general idea of where it is, but it would be nice to have something like a blacklight to tell me where exactly the mess is. I don’t have a guide dog or a dog of any kind, so I don’t know how easy or onerous it is to find your dog’s deposits, but wouldn’t it be cool to have a spotter. 5.“O Spot,” similar to the above, wouldn’t it be nice to have an app to identify whether you had a spot on that shirt. It could be used both for checking your clothes before wearing them out in public, but also for finding spots to apply spot remover. Alright, that’s what I have so far; would love to hear other people’s creative ideas! Lisa -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. PowerPoint Presentations on iOS
Hi everyone, has anyone successfully delivered a PowerPoint presentation on an iOS device? Keynote seems quite accessible on iOS except for when you start the actual slideshow, at which point, unless I'm missing something, it seems inaccessible. If that's the case is there some other app that works?
