Re: Can't send to this group without sight

2013-07-29 Thread eric oyen
its slow, but doable. I know, I do it all the time. try texting at full speed
by touch and sound only. Also, there is a faceplate you can buy called speed
dots. It has raised bumps where the letters usually are on the screen. Thats
about $20. Anyway, it takes some time and a lot of patience to get to the point
of texting or emailing at speed.

Can't send to this group without sight

2013-07-29 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I am al low vision user. So sometimes I drop in and out with voice over and
vision. I've noticed that I can't send a message to this groupfrom my iPhone
without using my vision. That is, I have to turn voiceover off and type a
little envelope icon at the far right of the screen in order to get a new
message to open up. How do you people send a message if you're completely blind

I see my own posts, and I'm using a Gmail account. I'm not sure if having a

that, but I'm using that setup, as well.

I have already installed Ariadne and probably will also install Blind
Square. I am probably going to change my data plan at some point and am
wondering if anyone on list has ever attempted to determine the approximate
data usage per hour for Blind Square and also for Ariadne. I am not saying
that I will make my decision solely on which uses less data, but this is
just one of several factors. Thanks.

Bluetooth device pairing question

2013-07-29 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

When pairing an iDevice with another device by BlueTooth, does it matter which
device is first to have it's Bluetooth activated or powered on? I'm just
checking because I've had trouble getting a Bluetooth speaker to connect with
my daughter's iPad, but it's never been a problem getting it to connect with my
iPhone (and, yes, I have turned off Bluetooth on my iPhone, so there shouldn't
be any interference).

Thanks. Keith

Found the instructions for Yatsy. Apparently instead of tapping on the screen

issues with some plantronics bluetooth headset

2013-07-29 Thread Larry Smith
This message is to the person who is experiencing problem with the Marque M55.
I think it was eric. I posted a message a week or so ago saying that I was
having some of the same issues with the M55 and the M165. I contacted the
number given for the accessibility team. I am working with them and an apple
technical group. They believe the problem may be with the iOS 6.1.4 software
version. I was told by them that the iPhone 5 was the only device that got this
upgrade. They now have info from the headset and the log files from my phone.
There were several phone calls made and received and somehow, with my phone
connected to my computer, they were able to capture the log data. So, hopefully
they will be able to figure out the problem.

As far as a Braille display or, a note taker I don't own one so, I can't say

My name is Desi Noller and I live in Phoenix Arizona. I have an iMac, an
iPhone 4S, and a 4th Generation iPod Touch. My husband who is sighted also
uses an iMac, iPhone 4S, and a 2nd Generation iPad. So, I guess you could say
we have become a total Apple family.

Recently, after some very unfortunate dealings with one of the companies who
sells dedicated Braille NoteTakers, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a
Braille Display for use with my Apple products. I have a 40 cell display, and
I have had no trouble connecting it via USB to my iMac, or pairing it with my
iOS devices! When I had a Braille NoteTaker, I stored a lot of information
that I wanted particularly in Braille, on that device. Now that I can't do
that anymore, I would like to find a way to store a number of my Braille and
text files on my iPod Touch. Is anyone else out there using a Braille Display
with an iOS device in place of a dedicated NoteTaker? If so, have you found a
way to store folders and files so that you can have access to them no matter
where you are, and whether or not you have a wireless connection? Any
suggestions would be immensely appreciated!

Re: removing games in dice world

2013-07-29 Thread MamaPeach
I don't think that works, it doesn't for me anyway. How I got it to work is
on the practice game you want to delete, do a one finger double tap and hold
on the last tap. While still holding, draw the letter Z on the screen,
moving right, left, right, and then lift finger from screen. Then look to
the right of that game and you should see where it says confirm deletion of
such and such practice game, so just double tap on that to remove the game.
I have done this two or three times just to test it out and it does work.

Hello everyone. Am just getting into the dice world thing, and am loving
it. I know that someone had asked this question, and I thought I followed
the directions correctly, but I can't seem to get thigns such as my practice
rounds to get removed from my recent games list. What am I doing wrong?
Thought I was supposed to flick down to find delete, but all that happens is
I get the word practice, for example, read by character.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

removing games in dice world

2013-07-29 Thread Stacy Fuehrer
Hello everyone. Am just getting into the dice world thing, and am loving it.
I know that someone had asked this question, and I thought I followed the
directions correctly, but I can't seem to get thigns such as my practice rounds
to get removed from my recent games list. What am I doing wrong? Thought I
was supposed to flick down to find delete, but all that happens is I get the
word practice, for example, read by character.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Data Usage questions

I have already installed Ariadne and probably will also install Blind

wondering if anyone on list has ever attempted to determine the
approximate data usage per hour for Blind Square and also for Ariadne. I
am not saying that I will make my decision solely on which uses less
data, but this is just one of several factors. Thanks.

RE: Navigon Now Not Working?

2013-07-29 Thread Esther
Hi Eileen,

Glad I could help. Let me give the full name and URL of the "Where To?" app I
was describing as an alternative to using Navigon Now, since there's another
(different) app named "Where To Go?"
• Where To? -- GPS Points of Interest (currently $2.99) by FutureTap GmbH
https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/where-to-gps-points-interest/id314785156?mt=8

I also use AroundMe, and in some ways its searching options are simpler. But
since the switch to iOS 6, I've found it to be much clunkier to use it for
sending addresses to a GPS navigation app. And I find the category breakdowns
for POIs in "Where To?" more helpful.

Raul posted recently about using HopStop as a free public transportation
navigation app:
• HopStop for iPhone
http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone%40googlegroups.com/msg36692.html

Here's the link to my follow-up post describing how to send destinations from a
POI search in "Where To?" to HopStop, and why using AroundMe for the same task
was so much clunkier.
• Re: HopStop for iPhone
http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone%40googlegroups.com/msg37394.html

(Basically, you can get routed to the Maps app, but only with the option for
walking or driving. In order to get public transportation options, you have to
back out and cancel to change your navigation options, and it's not as simple
to send your address to such a wide range of navigation apps easily, compared
to using "Where To?". This wasn't an issue before iOS 6, but now I find "Where
To?" much easier to use for sending addresses to navigation apps than AroundMe.)

Cheers,

Esther

You are awesome. I will make sure that I copy and paste all of this info
into a word doc for future reference until I get use to using "Where To Go."
I do have the app on my phone, but I have usually opened "Around Me" to do

Subject: Navigon Now Not Working?

Hi Eileen,
I don't think the Navigon Now app works any more. If you read the app store
reviews sorted by date, the last consistent batch of positive reviews were
at the end of March. Many comments elsewhere say that this stopped working
after one of the recent Navigon updates. I always get "Failed parsing
address" messages when I try to use it. Instead, I'm using a similar app
called NavAssist Navigation App Helper that was released in 2011, and that
still seems to work. NavAssist can send addresses to either Navigon or
TomTom, but it no longer seems to be sold in the App Store..

One reason for using Navigon Now in the past was that Navigon didn't
correctly parse addresses selected from your contacts, especially when they
included modifiers like room or suite numbers, and I don't think that's a
problem now. So you can select contact addresses directly from within
Navigon by choosing "contacts" in the list from the "more" tab (5 of 5).

Another app that I like to use as an alternate way for sending addresses to
Navigon is the "Where To?" app for POI selection. You also have the option
of selecting from your contacts in Where To?, either to set the location for
your POI searches, or to directly send a contact address to a routing app
like Navigon, or TomTom, Motion X GPS Drive, Garmin, etc. I like the fact
that I can also use "Where To?" to send addresses to public transportation
apps like Hop Stop, whereas the same process is very clunky from AroundMe.

Double tap the "search" button of Where To. If you have just launched the
app, focus will be on this button ( in the top left corner). In the search
field, where VO says "search or address", flick right to the button and
double tap. Your contacts should become available and VO should announce
"choose a contact to search near". Then access your contacts as usual: you
can use the table index at the right side of the screen, or flick to the
search field to type in part of a name to search. If there is more than one
address, such as for home and work, double tap to select the one you want to
use. Otherwise, if there's a single address, you'll be taken directly to a
Where To screen that is a map mode display view. To send this address to
routing apps, do a four finger tap on the bottom half of the screen to move
to the "add" button in the bottom right corner, and double tap. You'll be
on a screen listing "Routing Apps" which will list those on your iPhone, and
then other that are available fro the App Store, along with their rating and
purchase price. Flick through to the name of the app you want to use, such
as Navigon MobileNavigator, Maps, Hop Stop, etc., and then flick to the
"Route" button for that app and double tap. Your selected routing app will
lainch with the address loaded. For example, if I've loaded in the address
for a doctor and double tapped the route button for Navigon, that app will
launch, and if I flick right I'll find the "Start navigation" button. A
further flick right announces the name of the contact, followed by latitude
and longitude, then street address.

If you want to launch a second contacts search from the last screen in the
"Where To?" app, the "search" button will be in the top right corner. Now
if you've double tapped on the "search" button and flick right in the search
field, the button will be labeled "bookmarks". This still gives you access
to your contacts if you double tap, just as before, although it's a little
weird.

The "Where To?" search button can also be used to type in a business name or
address, so if you find that when you're in the search field, and there's no
additional button to bring up contacts, usually because you previously used
this field to type in a search entry, or if the only button that's announced
when you flick right is for "clear text", flick right past this button and
the "cancel" button to "search address" and double tap. Then flick left back
to the search filed and a button for contacts should be there.

HTH. I like the " Where To?" app's POI selections, so I use this more for
POI searches than the Navigon features. And, as you can see, you can also
use "Where To?" to select addresses from your contacts and send them to
Navigon without having to type them in. The additional bonus is that "Where

RE: Plese help with going no mail

2013-07-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Kay,

Michael posted an apology saying his comment "It's done" was accidently
posted to the wrong list. Michael is not a moderator, you have to contact
Raul or Cara.
Somebody else, I think it was Christopher, also posted instructions on how
to set the email status to No Mail. Here is what he said with a few details
added:

Go to the following link (it is also found at the end of each message to the
list):
http://groups.google.com/group/viphone?hl=en
Find the Sign In link and sign in with your account.
Now look for a link called "Members". If you use Jaws you can bring up the
links list, for me it's link 21 of 50 something links on the page).
You can also use the Jaws find command, Insert+Control+F and search for
"Members", it will put you right on the link.
Activate the link, you now get a listing of all group members and a search
box to search for a particular name.
If you find the search for members edit field, arrow down until you hear
"Same page link Groups" followed by 2 buttons. For me they say "Unlabelled 0
button menu" and "Unlabelled 1 button Menu". Possibly it might say "My
Settings", in any case, you want the first of these 2 buttons.
If you press it, you get the following (just arrow down):
My Settings for this group
Membership and email settings menu
Press enter on "Membership and email settings menu".
Now use the jump to button quick navigation shortcut, "b" in Jaws. I have my
email preferences set to receive individual emails, so for me it says:
Send me an email for every new message (about 102 per day) button menu
Press Enter on that button,
Now look for the following choices (Near the bottom of the page):
 Leave group
Don't send email updates
Send daily summaries
Send combined updates (25 messages per email)
Send me an email for every new message (about 102 per day) button menu
Press enter on Don't Send email updates, then find the "Save" button and
activate it.

This is definitely doable, I just did it twice to make sure it's consistent.
Let me know how it works for you.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: Navigon Now Not Working?

2013-07-29 Thread Eileens Misrahi
Hello,
The app that is in question is "Navigon Now." This app allows one to type in
the address in an edit field, and then towards the bottom is a button to launch
Navigon. The purpose of "Navigon Now" is to input all the necessary data into
the correct edit fields when entering an address. Navigon itself is working
just fine. "Navigon Now" speeds up the process when entering an address. I hope
this clarifies the app that I am having problems with. Oh by the way, I am
using an iPhone 4, running iOS 6.1.2.

Re: Navigon Now Not Working?

2013-07-29 Thread Patrick Neazer
Good morning Eileen and all:

I used Navigon last evening out in California and it worked as it should. I
mention that not to let the list know I am doing something wonderful in
California. I mention that only because it is not the state I usually use
Navigon in and so it is working even though I am on the move.

Does it completely lock up? What iPhone are you using? did you purchase the
quarterly map updates? sometimes when it wants me to update maps it sometimes
appears locked … what is really happening is that the OK and cancel buttons are
hiding somewhere at the bottom of the screen and I have to fish around for them
:).

I am sure telling you that it works on my end while it might not work on yours
is just what you wanted to hear :). if you could provide a few more details,
possibly we could be of more assistance.

Hopefully some of the information in this email proved of use to you. Please
let us know.

take good care and I wish you enough.

It is still there, I did provide the link, here it is again:

Also, my name is spelled like this: Sieghard. I know it's even a somewhat
rare name in Germany, but there are people from all over the world on the
list and it is nice if people take the few moments to check the spelling if
they refer to that person by name. Sorry if you think it's an unimportant
detail, but a lot of my correspondence is business related and I value
proper spelling, punctuation and form. I apologize if I didn't refer to you

Hi Mike, I am very much interested. Please let us know when it is done.
Thanks for all your efforts!!

Today's Bible verse of the day is ...
Isaiah 40:29
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases
strength. (ESV)
Today's Inspiring Thought: Power for the Faint
In this verse, Isaiah was speaking to believers who were living in
captivity, yet ones who had remained faithful to God. In spite of our
commitment to the Lord, sometimes we grow weary and powerless as we face
difficult circumstances. It's usually because we forget that we can never
serve and obey God in our own strength.
We must trust and depend fully on him in every situation. We must wait for
his strength to fill us when we become faint. Daily, hourly, and minute by
minute, let God renew your strength.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are the Resurrection and the Life. Strengthen my
faith and hope in your promises that I may radiate the joy of the gospel to
others. In the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior we pray, Amen!

Subject: looking for a seeing eye gps list

Hi All,

I tried using Seeing Eye GPs this last week here in Illinois and when going
on a vacation to Austin Texas and had several problems finding POI'S and
setting a route. I am sure it must me. But I don't want o clutter this
list with the specifics. Is there a list available? Thanks for any
guidance in advance.

This week's verse, inspirational thought and prayer:

Proverbs 10:19
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his
lips is wise

this week's Inspiring Thought: Keep Your Mouth Shut

An easy way to keep yourself from getting into trouble is to simply be
quiet. Especially if you are offended, upset, or angry

-let your words be few and you'll be less apt to say something you'll regret
later. Not only will it keep you out of trouble, silence may lend to your
success in life.

According to the Christian Register
 , Albert
Einstein considered this to be the best formula for success: "If a is
success in life, I should say the formula is a equals
  x plus y
plus z, x being work and y being play."

"And what is z?" inquired the interviewer.

"That," Einstein answered, "is keeping your mouth shut."

Prayer for the work day:

Almighty God, thank Thee for the job
  of this day.
May we find gladness in all its toil and difficulty, its pleasure and
success, and even in its failure and sorrow. We would look always away from
ourselves,
and behold the glory and the need of the world that we may have the will and
the strength to bring the gift of gladness to others; that with them we
stand to bear the burden and heat of the day and offer Thee the praise of
work well done.

In the name os Jesus our Lord and Savior, Amen!

RE: BopIt

2013-07-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I believe the discussion was about Bop It from Electronic Arts:
https://itunes.apple.com/ie/app/bop-it!/id395310586?mt=8
I am not much of a game player and own all of 3 games. Bop It is one of
these although I haven't even had it installed on my 4S for a long time.
Just to check it out I just reinstalled it and it seems changed from what it
used to be. I remember that the game reacted to movements of the iPhone by
taking advantage of the iPhone's accelerometer and gyroscope, but it seems
to be strictly gesture based now. It also wants to use Game Center which I
never configured, but I was able to cancel that screen when I first opened
the game and get to a Play button. You have to turn off Voiceover and then
tap where the play button is, not hard to find.
At that point I was able to play the game although it appears that the help
file is not very accessible. There is a list of the various gestures for Bop
It, Twist It, Pull It, Nail It etc., but double tapping or split tapping on
them doesn't seem to bring up an explanation.

I think somebody who is more keen on playing this game should contact the
developer and let them know that they should maybe look at accessibility.
Having to turn off voiceover to play the game is OK, but it should at least
be possible to go through the Help file and find out which gestures to use
for which command/request.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Donna;

That podcast is just the tip of the iceberg.

I have been listening to Mike's podcasts for a couple of years and, they are
really amazing!

Re: Skull Candy or Sol Republic

2013-07-29 Thread Chris Smart

We don't have your ears or brain or listening preferences.
Personally, I have some Sony earbuds that fit comfortably and cost
me around $50. I also have some Grado RS-1I's that cost me around
$900 and sound as good as you can imagine!
Why not go to somewhere like Radioshack if you're in the US, or a
hi-fi store where you can try various models?

Hi Desi;

Welcome to the list.

As far as seeing your messages, Google is set up in such a way that you are
unable to see your own messages.
However; some list members are clever enough to do something with the reply so
they can see their own messages.

As far as a Braille display or, a note taker I don't own one so, I can't say
anything about using it.

Again, welcome to the list.

Hello:
I'm assuming that you're both talking about ZanyTouch. I start the game by
opening the app, and then selecting the new game button. I double tap on the

the music starts for the game, announcing for me to get ready.

Re: THE RII KEYBOARD!!!

2013-07-29 Thread Scott Davert
Anhony.
What do you mean by the Apple keys? Do you mean the VO keys? The keys
located to the left of the spacebar are command, options, control,
function, and then a long function key for the keyboard itself which
activates things that aren't accessible from the keyboard itself. You
may wish to give the user documentation a look, which you can find on
the speeddots.com website somewhere.

Hello all. The hijacked threads are popping up once again. Here's an
example. There was a thread started by Kelly on July 24 regarding a
survivors game. Then Brett wrote in that same thread earlier at 3:57
this morning asking questions about Dice World. Then Mike wrote in that
same thread a little bit ago at 9:41 PM still to talk about the GPS
comparison podcast. This means that one single thread contains 3
completely separate conversations. If you sort your email by threads,
like the iOS mail program does by default, you may miss some of all of
these if one specific thread doesn't interest you.

The best way to start a new conversation is to simply press the compose
button in your iDevice, or the new message hot key in your Windows or
Mac mail program, address the message to viphone@googlegroups.com and
write the appropriate subject and message content.

I hope this helps.

Re: Introduction And File Storage Questionn

2013-07-29 Thread Mario Barbuto

  Hi Desi,

There are various apps you can sync in DropBox having your stored
files available everywhere and everytime, even out of wireless
connection, but with a 3G active.
I have used almost successfully AccessNote, Write2, PlainText and
some others, you can easily find in the AppleStore.
These apps create their own folder inside the DropBox folder where
they store the files.

Take into consideration they only manage txt format files, unfortunately...
They can also operate offline, syncing the new files when the phone
gets its connection wireless or 3G again.
Each of them isn't fully accessible; at any rate, all of them could
be managed almost efficiently using VoiceOver and a little patience.

Warmly,
Mario.

RE: Focus 14 help

2013-07-29 Thread Brett
Hi Christine,

The text is located just before the bookmarks button, so if you pan left
from there you should find it.

The easiest way I find is to find the start of the text with your finger on
the screen, then begin reading in braille from there.

When you get to the bottom of the text, you will see the bookmarks button,
from here, pan left once, then you can successfully do a page down command
to move to the next page.

Hope this helps,
Brett.

Subject: Focus 14 help

OK, all: I am playing around with a Focus 14. I have managed to pair it, but
am ow trying to read the text of a Bookshare book with it, which I have in a
Voice Dream folder. It is reading things like "Bookmarks" and "pause" but
not the text of the book when VoiceOver is focused on it. What am I doing
wrong?
Christine
