Re: sending tweets from Lire

2013-11-14 Thread Alex Hall
The developer said that Lire uses the Twitter sharing functionality built into
iOS itself. So, as long as you have Twitter enabled and activated on your phone
(settings > Twitter), you should not have any problems. He also said that, if
you can't get it to work, you can log out of Twitter from Settings, then log
back in. If that fails, remove Lire, but remember that doing so will erase all
your subscriptions.

Re: Ring tone Sinking Problem

2013-11-14 Thread Katey Glass
Hello Eric,

I had this exact problem when I originally updated from my 4s to my 5s.
Strange thing is that not only were my homemade ringtones missing, but some of
the ringtones I'd bought from iTunes.

So, let me first say that I'd lost them somehow because not all m tones had
synced to my mac running ML. What I finally had to do as no matter what I did
to try to sync all my ringtones to my mac was to purchase additional space on
the iCloud, sync my 4s back to the cloud, as both 4s and 5s couldn't be synced
on the free 5G that Apple gives us.

After I'd re-synced my 4s back to the cloud, I went to my 5s and wiped it, in
other words I reset it and it looked like it had just come out of the box, and
when it asked me if I wanted to set up as a new device or another on the cloud,
I chose the 4s backup. After a while everything was back on my 5s, including
the ringtones!

Hope this makes sense, let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Katey

PS, this also cleared up the bug where my text messages were reading on the
lock screen instead of just saying the time and one allert.

DataMan

2013-11-14 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,
Over the last month I came within a hair's breadth of my 2-gig data limit on
AT&T, which got me wondering what I was doing that cranked up my data usage.
The two apps that I suspected right off were MLB At Bat and Seeing Eye GPS. As
I was mulling this over I looked in the app store and read about DataMan and
recall reading about it on the list quite a while back. I noticed different
versions, including a pro version which cost a few bucks, as I recall. Being
total, I don't care about any fancy visual representations of which app is
doing what and when, but I do want to know in straightforward text what apps
are downloading the most data and when. Also, if some versions are questionable
with VO I want to know which ones to avoid.

Suggestions, anybody?

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Re: sending tweets from Lire

2013-11-14 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Alex, Where do I do this? I checked in both the privacy and twitter settings
and lire is not listed. I have gone through every spot I can find in the Lire
app to find where I can add Lire to Twitter as well with no luck. I am assuming
that this is the problem. I have listened to the second podcast from Applevis
but that was about folders mainly. I have done a google search and have not
been able to find the answer and on the Lire website, there are no actual
instructions or manual.
Thanks,
Jo

Re: Object recognition apps

Are you asking about the subscription options for Tap Tap See? You can
either purchase a 100 picture package, which will last until your 100
pictures are up, regardless of how long it takes. You can also purchase
a one month subscription, which will only last one month regardless of
how many pictures you take.

Re: PC repair from Microsoft for people with disabilities

2013-11-14 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Point taken, but I didn't say anything on list until someone else
mentioned that it was on topic. I would never respond to a message like
Ed's to just say that something was off topic. I only stepped in when I
was worried that someone was promoting the notion that anything to do
with Macs was on topic for this list. If my message clarifies what is
and is not on topic for the list then it will cut down on list traffic.

I appreciate the information, but I don't think it's on topic for an
iPhone mailing list. this isn't a mailing list for Macs or all things
Apple. I also don't think it's on topic just because you can run
iTunes on Windows. I know no one has stated this yet, but I've seen
people make some pretty complicated relationships to basically defeat
any effort to keep a list on topic.

This is just my opinion, and the real opinion that counts is that of
the moderator and owner of this list.

Hi Group.

I know this is a little off topic but I think it very important
for people using Microsoft products and assistive technology.
Microsoft has a free service that you can call and they will fix

any issues on your pc over the internet for people using assistive
technology. I called them three different time and had my old lap
top fix and also my Win seven pc. I had Outlook 2010 fix and
other issues. Check this link out below which is a Microsoft web
page. I know this sounds like it cannot be true but it is. They
started this service in January of this year. Also remember this
is totally a free service.

Hi Group.

I know this is a little off topic but I think it very important for people
using Microsoft products and assistive technology. Microsoft has a free
service that you can call and they will fix any issues on your pc over the
internet for people using assistive technology. I called them three
different time and had my old lap top fix and also my Win seven pc. I had
Outlook 2010 fix and other issues. Check this link out below which is a
Microsoft web page. I know this sounds like it cannot be true but it is.
They started this service in January of this year. Also remember this is
totally a free service.

Re: sending tweets from Lire

2013-11-14 Thread Alex Hall
Have you given Lire access to your Twitter account? Go into the settings app,
and from there into either the Twitter settings, or privacy settings, I cannot
remember which. Either way, you can double check that Lire is turned on under
the Twitter access heading. Of course, for this to work, your device itself
must be logged into your Twitter account; having an app for Twitter that is
logged in is not the same.

Tapping the middle of the screen works well if you haven’t received too many
tweets since you last looked at Twitter. But if you have received a lot of
tweets, Tweetlist will not have loaded them all and this is where the jump to
unread feature comes in very handy.

Hi Group.

I know this is a little off topic but I think it very important for
people using Microsoft products and assistive technology. Microsoft

RE: PC repair from Microsoft for people with disabilities

2013-11-14 Thread Joe
I've also tried it, and although they were not able to fix my issue, they
spent almost an hour trying. It would seem on topic considering it's
possible to run Windows on Macs.

Hi,

I have an iPhone 5 with Verizon as my carrier.

We addesd a line on the Verizon account for our new family cellular iPad Air.

The iPad Air came today, but has not yet been set up. Will the cellular portion
of the set up occur as I work through the device activation process, or will I
need to do something additional or different?

I’m just asking before I get started so I know what to expect.

Appreciate any advice.

Updating 2 iPhones to the latest version

2013-11-14 Thread Agent086b
Hello,
I am downloading the latest update with iTunes. Can I upgrade 2 phones with the
one download?
This would save some bandwidth. A big month for downloads with OSX and all.
Thanks for any advice.

RE: Synchronizing Contacts over all Devices -- Windows PC IPhone Touch and IPad

2013-11-14 Thread Grant Hardy
As Anna mentioned you can try the iCloud Control Panel which lets you sync
mail, contacts, calendars, and reminders between Microsoft Outlook and your
iOS device. You have to have Microsoft Outlook 2007 or later for this to
work. You can download the iCloud Control Panel by visiting this link -
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1455. Also, if you have other Apple software
installed on the computer already, you can simply open Apple Software
Update, and you can install it from there. The advantage is that if you
primarily use iOS to manage your data, you'll find that it works the best on
your iOS devices. For example, it offers full support for location-based
reminders. The disadvantage is that a lot of people have trouble with the
iCloud Control Panel. It seems to sync data in a rather unorthodox manner,
and I find Outlook to be a bit more temperamental with the iCloud Control
Panel installed and set up. Your mileage may vary of course, and I've found
that it's not too much of a big deal to work around the occasional
quirkiness. For example, there will be two additional sets of folders that
will show up in your Microsoft Outlook profile. One will be your iCloud
Email account; the other will have data like contacts, calendars, and
reminders.

An alternative would be to use an account such as Microsoft's Outlook.com
which can sync mail, contacts, calendars, and reminders between Microsoft
Outlook and iOS using Exchange Active Sync. You'll likely find it to be a
bit more stable if you use Microsoft Outlook as your primary means to access
the data. The disadvantage is that not all features are supported. For
example, location-based reminders cannot be created, even within iOS. It's
also slightly more challenging to set up multiple calendars, though it can
be done. However, there are some nice touches such as a built-in holiday
calendar that can be configured to display holidays for your preferred
country. You can sign up by going to Outlook.com, and you can add the
account easily on your iOS device by going into Settings | Mail, Contacts
and Calendars.

You can also sync contacts and calendars (but not reminders) with a local
Personal Folders file in Microsoft Outlook by configuring the
synchronization to happen locally, using iTunes. Connect your iOS device and
visit the Info tab in iTunes.

Let me know if you need any more information on any of the above.

Can someone give me the quick rundown on accomplishing this. I have had it

Problem Synchronizing with iTunes After Upgrading to iOS 7.03

2013-11-14 Thread Steve Matzura
After updating an iPhone 4S to iOS version 7.03, when the iPhone is
connected to a computer running iTunes, current version as of
yesterday on Windows XP, patched up-to-date, instead of iTunes
starting, the Microsoft Photo Viewer starts, offering some option
about synchronizing pictures from the iPhone. Has this happened to
anyone in here, and if so, how'd you cure it?

TIA

found nothing.

Re: Living Social app

2013-11-14 Thread Alan Paganelli
If you get the app for free, it might be of some use. I found it heavy on
discounts on nail salons, beauty parlors, Paloties what ever those are, etc.
Rarely did I see X amount off at Walmart, Target, K-Mart etc. It did seem
to be heavy on things a woman might want if she didn't mind going here there
and everywhere. According to my wife, most women have a beauty parlor they
like and don't like switching around so it really wasn't much for me. You
could give it a shot and if you aren't getting anything out of it then you
could delete it.

PC repair from Microsoft for people with disabilities

2013-11-14 Thread Pinky

Re: good accessible IOS app development tool?

it should be doable with vo, but no real good documentation ...
what I'Ve seen from others:

ruby motion
phone gap.

I Myself has given up for ios, android seems a lot better in terms of writing
programs in an accessible way. everything is documented well, from building an
gui in xml etc.

I Know, ios also ddefines gui in xml, but xan't find any doc describing the
different elements and such.

I Know gui can be created from the code, but yeah :)

just my 2 cents

Re: red laser and papa sangre II with syncing and wifi

2013-11-14 Thread Alex Hall
Red Laser will work with wifi or cellular. It needs an internet connection, so
the only advantage to an iPhone here is that you can do lookups in places you
don't have wifi, like a store.

To get an app you already bought, just go to App Store, Updates, Purchased
Apps. Here you will see, and can download all apps you have bought from any of
your devices. Once installed, if the app developer supports it, data will sync
between the two apps. Again, this is optional and some apps do not support the
feature, meaning that the copy on your iPad will not sync settings or content
with the copy on your iPhone or iPod. Re-downloading a purchased app, though,
or restoring an in-app purchase, is always free.

2013-11-14 Thread Lea Langley
Hi I'll, I put talking goggles on video mode this morning and try to scan a box
that has Schwan's old rotten potatoes in it. It would only read Schwan's oak
rotten potatoes and that was about it it would also read a couple of numbers.
Can anyone please tell me what to do to get this app to work better. Thank you.
Much appreciated. God bless, Wren

Re: Sendero GPS LookAround app is now free

2013-11-14 Thread Esther
Hi Eileen,
The Sendero GPS LookAround app has simpler interface than Blind Square with
only three button options. You basically get information about the direction
you are facing, nearby address, and nearest cross street when the app is
running. So, if I shake my iPhone, there will be a sound indicating update, and
I'll hear something like "Facing southwest near some street address and part of
city location, along with an announcement of what my nearest cross street is,
like, "Nearest cross street is Main Street near Fourth Street.". You don't get
information about the direction of the nearest intersection or what is in any
particular direction. I don't use the nearest 5 points of interest, because in
most of my locations the information has been extraneous, out of date, or wrong
in earlier versions of the app, but this can be useful in a large downtown area
where there are standard landmarks.

The button options are "LookAround", "Nearest Cross Street", and "Nearest 5
points of interest". These are more easily accessed via the "shake gesture"
that can be set to report "direction", "nearest cross street", and "nearest
POI". All three options are enabled in Settings by default. You can also
separately double tap the "Compass" button at the bottom of the screen, and
have it update just the current direction you are facing.

One annoyance under the iPad version under iOS 7 is that the button for
switching between normal mode and full screen mode (in the case of iPhone apps)
is moved to be in the top right corner, so focus under iOS 7 always moves there
after you shake or double tap a button. You always hear VO say "Switch to
normal mode" as focus now lands on this button, because this is an iPhone only
app. Before iOS 7 focus would be on the part of the screen where the
LookAround or nearest cross street or compass I formation would be announced.
I'd be curious if everyone, even those who paid for the earlier version of this
app, has to listen to the announcement about how to find out more about the
Seeing Eye GPS app when they start this up. I haven't found any way to turn
this off, but my iPhone is still running the version before the app went free.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Thanks for posting this information. I do have a question for you. What is the

gets with Blind Square. Could you elaborate on this?

Thanks in advance.

Sendero GPS LookAround app is now free

2013-11-14 Thread Esther
Hi All,

I don't recall seeing this posted here after yesterday's announcement, but the
Sendero GPS LookAround app is now free. Actually, they announced in a previous
month's newsletter that they were making this app free, but the actual change
in price didn't happen until yesterday. This app returns information about your
nearest cross street, or, if you use the LookAround function (by button or by
shaking your iPhone), gives you your address and the direction you are facing.
It can also give information on nearby POIs, but the usefulness and/or accuracy
of this function may vary according to your location.

Note that whenever you launch this app you'll get an information screen about
how you can find out more about their paid subscription model Seeing Eye GPS
app. you do not have to purchase or even read more about the Seeing Eye GPS app
in order to use the Sendero GPS LookAround app. Just double tap the "Continue"
button to move onto the next screen.

This app will also work on iPads or iPad Minis equipped with 3G (or 4G)+ Wi-Fi,
since these devices have GPS and Compass hardware built into the devices.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

RE: red laser

Thanks for posting this. I had a similar experience on two out of 5 scans
last night after I had installed the app. Very strange but it did a great
job with the other three.
It isn't much harder to find the scan code with this than with my ID Mate
Summit. My wife says that this is great but she doesn't plan to use it over
the Summit. I'll probably do the same when convenient but gladly use the
Red Laser when I need to. I'm not particularly worried about how much data

good accessible IOS app development tool?

2013-11-14 Thread Dan Beaver
Hi,

Is there a good development tool for creating apps for IOS? It will need to be
freeware since I am on a very limited budget.

It has been a fair number of years since I have done software development but
I'd like to try it again on some ideas I have for apps.

Thanks.

Re: Voice Dream & MP3 Files

2013-11-14 Thread Russ Kiehne

1. If not in a ZIP archive format. You should compress the directory holding
the mp3's files into a ZIP file.
2. Connect the iOS device to your computer with a USB cable.
3. Open the iTunes application and select the iOS device button at the right
of

the main window.
4. select the "Apps" radio button on the main screen.
5. At the bottom of the Apps screen is a section titled "File Sharing" with
a

column list of apps. One of those will be Voice Dream Reader app select it.
6. Press the "Add…" button located in the bottom right of the screen. This
will give
you a dialog to select the ZIP file from step one. The book will then be
added

to the app.
7. Go to Voice Dream Reader, select "add files", choose Itunes, find your
file, and there you go.

I saw on here that voice dream now supports the playing of mp3 files in a
zip format. Does anyone have instructions on how to get a mp3 audio book
into voice dream? I googled it and also went to the developers web site but
found nothing.

If you had copied the given information in to google to be opened it would
have worked. Here is the link with the http//www. infront of it.

To add to what Ed has said, this time of year, you can find iTunes gift
cards on sale for less than their face value. Last year, I saw $50 cards for

Re: How to send my GPS coordinates

Thanks to you and all the others for your suggestions!
I did manage to get I'm Right here to work eventually. But it is also good to
know that maps will provide me with the same functionality. Hopefully, they
will be able to find me in this Irish outback.

Thanks again, Sandy

I have used Talk-a-Tone on my iPhone. It is accessible and works just
great. You can make free phone calls. If you want a better quality of
call, you can pay a fee and get a better quality. When you call
someone, it shows them your Google Voice number.

Hi

Yes the Maps application and share with e-mail. This will send a vcard
file that contains a link to map service. The coordinates are also

I don't know if this will do it, but you can go into map and share
your current location. I am not sure if it adds the GPS coordinates
on though.
