Did this command ever work for you? I'm running iOS 7 on an iPhone 4s and the dots 1 and 4 chords work perfectly. What I'm wondering is since you are running an older version of iOS, maybe this command is new in iOS 7. But to answer your question, you will not lose data if you perform a reset. Have you tried turning the phone off and back on? Or re-establishing the pairing? Hi, the question of backup can be split many different ways. In the end it's up to the individual to decide what's best for him/her. Jonathan brings up some good points and I agree with his reasons and I also use iTunes as my main backup source. Yes, the risk of my hard drive crashing will make that a waste, but life is all about decision making and risks. Recently I was helping out a consumer choosing between online backup solutions with companies like Carbonite and/or Mozy VS home backups like with Casper and a second internal or external hard drive. In the end she ended up going with the Casper solution and a second drive because the quick and ease and easy access of getting a lost file ore recovering from a crashed hard drive was more important to her than the superior reliability and the need to trust an online company like Carbonite to keep your data safe. Not only that, but her computer skills are such that navigating the Carbonite interface was problematic for her whereas using the Casper solution was very easy and she could understand it better. She purchased an external AC powered Western Digital 2 tb hard drive and we have Casper set up so when she connects it to the pc, it automatically runs, performs the backup, and safely removes the drive from the operating system. Then when it's done, she puts it away in a fireproof safe which she has. She's a lawyer and keeping control of her documents is key to her. So, while online backup methods have their merits, so do home solutions. -- Raul A. problems creating future events in Fantastical
Listers, I'm trying to create an event in Fantastical that's to take place in 6 months time. I can't find the way of moving quickly to a distant date in the future. I can locate the date flicker but I can only move one day at a time. This makes creating a future date that's fairly distant a difficult task as I would have to keep on flicking for hours to get to the date 180 or more flicks away. Is there a way of moving more quickly through the picker? I don't seem to be able to find one. It created folders, then against my wish, then i went inside d folder, and moved those icons when it spoke outside d folder, and that way got rid of those unwanted folders. memory usage on the iPhone
I'm cleaning out some old apps that I don't use. I go to geneeral, usage and look at the apps and how much memory they are using. I see messages is using 1.4 GB in saved messages. I go to messages and have no messages in there. Are the saved messages saved somewhwere else? The app itself doesn't use 1.4 GB, does it? Yes. Find the Go To Today button just to the left of the New Event button and double tap and hold. Once you hear the tones, there is a multi-part picker that has month, day, year. Find the month and flick up I think it is to go forward. Then, go to the day picker and flick to the date you want. You can even schedule in future years with the year picker. Once you have the date you want, find the done button and double tap. Then, double tap the new event button. Note that once you have schedule the appointment, the calendar will flip back to today in just a few seconds. So, I use Siri to confirm that the date was set when I wanted it by simply asking Siri to tell me my appointments on that date. I wish the calendar would stay put in case you have several appointments to enter on a future date. I'm going to request that change. I've had that happen as well. Make sure the field is editing and you may have to make sure both cellular and WiFi are on. I have not quite narrowed down the exact cause. To create a foldr just move the app on to another app then the folder will be created. To change the name of a foldr double tap the folder and then you are able to change the name of the folder. Keith, I'm not sure about the magazines in Kindle. However, I subscribe a few of them using Zinio and since I've paid for them, they stay in my library until I decide to trash them. It an attachment that you have to open. I did not open the attachment because I do not know who it is from and it could have a virus. So if you scan the virus and know who it is from open the attachment and you should be able to read it. The only options I got when I tried to open the attachment were mail or open in dropbox. I suspect the attachment may be a graphic rather than text which is why you aren't able to read it with any of the standard epub reading options. I am just listening to an MP3 audio book with Voicedream Reader. In case I haven't found it, is there a Sleep Timer in this app? I set the regular timer last night for 25 minutes and set it to Stop Playing but when I woke up a few hours later my book was happily still playing. I must, by the way, say that I'm not impressed with these Ivona voices. To me they don't sound so good and I still think that James is the best voice. But I'm sure others think they are great, in any case, you won't ever catch me listening to an entire book using synthetic speech so for the few documents I may read with Voicedream James does just fine. Yes, there is a sleep timer. Double tap and hold on the play button to bring it up, configure it, and hit the start button at the bottom. I want to say that if you press and hold the play button (double tap and hold) the sleep timer should come up. I don't use this particular feature, but do recall it being mentioned and may have even enabled it by accident once or twice. VD has become my audiobook reading app of choice for titles that aren't available via the NLS app. I only wish that playback speed could be increased beyond the current 2x. Renewing Instapaper subscription
Hello list, I'm sure this is a simple answer, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I paid for a 3 month subscription to Instapaper to try it out and am now close to the expiration date. I do like the service and want to continue using it, but I can't seem to figure out how to expend my subscription. I've gone into the Instapaper app on my iPhone and go into the settings/subscription section, but there doesn't seem to be a way to extend my subscription. I'm only told how many days are left in my subscription cycle. I've also gone to the website and under the subscription section there, it only talks about canceling subscription. Any voice recommendations, I prefer US English, as I understand it best. :) I do realize voice choices would vary based on preferences but there are so many to choose from. Re: weird issue with my iphone and dictation
I've had this happen to me several times lately in various apps. Sometimes I can just type a few characters manually, delete them and then the dictation works. Other times, I have to remove the app from the app switcher and re-open the app. If I could not get it to work after trying those two things, I guess I would completely shut my phone off for a couple of minutes but I have not had to do that yet. Voices are regular price. Go to Settings (second from the right along the bottom) and then look for Manage my Voices. Now you have an Add button at the top right, tap it and you will find a list of voices with their prices and a button to play a sample. Yes, the risk of my hard drive crashing will make that a waste, but life is all about decision making and risks. Recently I was helping out a consumer choosing between online backup solutions with companies like Carbonite and/or Mozy VS home backups like with Casper and a second internal or external hard drive. In the end she ended up going with the Casper solution and a second drive because the quick and ease and easy access of getting a lost file ore recovering from a crashed hard drive was more important to her than the superior reliability and the need to trust an online company like Carbonite to keep your data safe. Not only that, but her computer skills are such that navigating the Carbonite interface was problematic for her whereas using the Casper solution was very easy and she could understand it better. She purchased an external AC powered Western Digital 2 tb hard drive and we have Casper set up so when she connects it to the pc, it automatically runs, performs the backup, and safely removes the drive from the operating system. Then when it's done, she puts it away in a fireproof safe which she has. She's a lawyer and keeping control of her documents is key to her. Voicedream Reader and MP3 audio books
Hello again, I am using Voicedream Reader for the first time to listen to an MP3 audio book. Shouldn't there be a way to jump forward and back by a certain time interval, e.g. 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 3 minutes or something like that? I do see to the right of the Play button is a Navigation Unit button and I can adjust it to 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, Chapter and Bookmark. However, when I set it to 60 seconds or, for that matter, to Chapter, and then tap the Previous Item or Next Item buttons nothing seems to happen and the elapsed time readout remains at the exact same time. Can you use the edit text field to use natural language for your appointment, then edit it as needed. This may require less flicking around as the date you typed or dictated in should show up. Hello All, While I am almost certain the following question has been asked and answered at some point in the past, I could not locate it so I will ask: Why would one choose to subscribe to Kindle magazines as opposed to using the NFB Newsline service? Assuming one has access to Newsline and that the magazine is available on Newsline, of course. For the record, I am a big fan of the Kindle iOS app. I absolutely adore the Newsline app and think it is amazing that they allow one to send unencrypted articles directly to email Inboxes. Not all magazines are available through NFB-Newsline. How do you send articles to your mailbox? There used to be links associated with articles, but they went away 6 to 9 months ago, at least on my app. Did I unknowingly change a setting or something? After you select the time interval within the navigation button, go back to the play button and flick up or down with one finger same as you would with any other picker item and you'll jump forward or back. Hi, Well, I finally have entered into the land of using my brailliant 40 bi with my i phone some of the time. I think I will like it for reading books and things like that. anyhow, is there someplace I can go to learn all the braille commands? Some of them I have figured out, but others I don't know yet. For example, yesterday I ws trying to read a kindle book and couldn't fiugre out how to go to the next page. I did try space dots 1, 3,5. That did go forward, but it seemed to go more then a page. hi okay if anyone would like to assist me with this. There is A radio station in my area called 94.5 the lake. they have an App called radio league which has a bunch of streaming stations in it. Well I down loaded the app and can only see the settings button and another selection for A notification or something like that. but I can find anyway to get any of the stations to play or anyway to select any of them. So if someone can down load this app and see if it works for them that would be great. Calendar Items Got Lost In Upgrade From iOS 5 to 6
Hi all, An individual at the Association for the Blind where I volunteer asked me for some help with his iPhone. He says he lost all his calendar entries when he upgraded his iPhone from iOS 5 to iOS 6. He's since upgraded to iOS 7 but is still unable to find his calendar entries. I don't use the native calendar app and I don't know much at all about the app. I told him I would write to this list and see if I could get some help with his problem. If anyone has any ideas about where I might start digging for a solution, I would greatly appreciate the help. If this is a lost cause then I'd like to hear that too so I'm not spending a lot of time spinning my wheels. Thank you. Each display has special buttons - thumbkeys, joysticks, rockers, wheels, and so on. They do different things, and that link should have links to each supported display where you can see what each special control does. Also, space-k enters help mode, the same as a four-finger double tap. Use that to play with keys and things to see what they do, without actually issuing any commands. Space-b exits this mode. Not all magazines are available through NFB-Newsline. How do you send articles to your mailbox? There used to be links associated with articles, but they went away 6 to 9 months ago, at least on my app. Did I unknowingly change a setting or something? How do I get a sound when a comment is made on facebook? Like replys to my posts etc? Vo will read them but what if speech is off or I'm else where? I have no idea when fb notifies me. Instapaper in Voice Dream not working so well
Hi all, I love reading Instapaper articles in VDR, but something has never worked right. It will pull new articles, but ones I delete from the main Instapaper app remain, so i slowly gain more and more articles I've already read and erased. Is this just me? Phone Drive Windows 7
I have no problem connecting my Windows 7 computer to my iPhone 4S using Phone Drive. The problem is that whenever I try to paste anything into the Phone drive folder on my computer I get a 0x80070780 error.
