RE: BBC Radio Player
Thank you, I am sure I am missing something simple but you or someone may be able to help with another query please? I would like to add some of the stations to my favorites but don’t seem to be able to do this. The favorites tab is at the bottom of the screen, do I flick to the station I want, double tap and then hold my finger down followed by sliding to the tab for favorites? For some reason, I can’t seem to get this to work. Thanks again. RE: Emodicons on your phone
Yes, used these, they are really good, you need to add the EMOJ keyboard first. Go to settings, general, keyboard, tap add then scroll down to the EMOJ keyboard. It should be available then when typing a message, there is a button near the space bar to change to the EMOJ keyboard to add in your symbol. A question regarding selecting and copying messages with the mini blue tooth keyboard.
Okay. I have tried to follow the directions that was sent to the list from Woody the other day and unfortunately I still haven't been able to select and copy the message with the keyboard. I was looking at the keyboard short cut commands that I received from another list that I'm on and according to them it says that the quick nav has to be turned off and that you should use the shift key and the arrow keys to select the text. When I try doing this I get no speech or anything so I still don't understand how to go about doing this with the keyboard and I am not sure where the command key is on the keyboard. Thanks for your help with this. This is really bothering me that I can't figure this out if there's a way of doing this with the mini blue tooth keyboard. Re: KNFB Reader - will it be late?
My point is with a product that is going to be sold to that small a customer base it's not going to be good for this to happen, and may really hurt how many people are willing to stick with their preorders etc. It wasn't smart to announce a release date when they weren't sure they had everything ready to go. WiFi not working on iphone, but does on my laptop.
I have the iPhone 5 with the latest IOS. I can detect my network at home, but the internet doesnt work. I have 3 of 3 bars. I have resented the modem/router and done a hard reset on the iPhone with no luck. I was able to access the internet in the past, but not any more at home. WiFi works fine at work and other networks. Re: UE Boom VS Bose soundlink mini
I would recommend before you make a final choice that you visit a Bose store and audition the Bose Sound Dock 10. The sound dock 10 has excellent sound quality and is made to play mp3 files etc of 128 KBPS. It can handle a Bluetooth adaptor as well. Mine is several years old so they have probably come out with a newer model. My sound dock is a bit heavy at about 30 pounds and no, it does not run on batteries. It does come with a remote control which is accessible. There are 10 round buttons on the remote which can be felt. Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2014! I'm hoping some of you own them. :) I'm debating between the 2. The ue boom is winning in the features category. 2 devices being connected at the same time is a big plus in my book! The sound notifications are nice subtle. Speaker phone is great, down the road possibly creating a stereo pair is cool! However, the Bose may be winning in the sound quality. Especially for this household's needs. We want this speaker for our living room. In fact I'll probably put it near the tv which is kind of the center of the room. We don't tend to blast our music, but I do want rich, full sound. Classical jazz are the 2 biggest players. Followed up by country, rock, oldies. Do y'all have any guidance here? I continuously read about loud volumes, but what about for the quiet moments? How do either of these speakers stack up to quiet sound? Hello, open up Twitter find the me tab select either the people that you are following by selecting followers, then you will see a list of people that you are following. RE: turning on and off notifications in twitter
Hi, It is just a little different on the iPad Jed. The first part is right by double tapping on the me tab at the bottom right corner of the screen. Then double tap on where it says something like 53 following. Now scroll down to the person. Double tap on the name. Now scroll right to find profile actions. Here is where you deal with the notifications. Re: Emodicons on your phone
Hi Wendy, you could write the emoticons manually as you do on a PC or Mac, :) but I think most people in iOS who use them use the Emoji keyboard. You need to enable this keyboard which from memory is in the regional settings. Once you have, there's a small button at the bottom of the virtual keyboard that lets you select from the available installed keyboards. It's rather fun actually. There are quite a few pages of symbols and VoiceOver does a really good job of speaking them. I could major cool creds from my kids for using emoji when I text them. Would like to know about I download, would also like to know about a program to unzip MP3 files
Hello everyone, As my structured shows, I had to specific questions I would like to ask. I really hope that somebody can help me with both of these questions. It would sure be appreciated. First of all, I am stalled the Apple iDownload app location a few days ago. I thought I could download music this way, but I guess I am wrong. I don't really understand how this program is supposed to work. Isn't it so that you can download files? If so, how exactly does it work? When I view the application, it sort of looks like it is a website. There is a place where you can enter an address, but whenever I try to enter an address to open a file, I don't understand how it works. For instance, I wanted to download send space application for the iPhone. I was on the same space website, and there wasn't open with area, and iDownload was one of the choices. I chose it, and it went to that website sort of looking page again. What is wrong? What am I doing wrong? I don't get this. No for my next question. I would like to be able to open zipped files onto my iPhone. Especially zipped MP3 files. Is this at all possible? If so, what program what I need, and how accessible is it? Again, any help would be very, very much appreciated! Thank you, Terri Sent from my iPhone -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: WiFi not working on iphone, but does on my laptop.
When you check in Settings - WiFi are you actually connected to your network? If you are it may be that your IP address settings are not correct. In the list of wireless networks flick right on the network in question and double tap on 'More Info'. In this screen you can choose how to obtain the network address the phone uses. DHCP is typically what you want, where the phone gets an address from your router. If it's gotten set to BOOTP or Manual this could be your issue. If, on the other hand, you can't even get connected to the wireless network then there are a number of other things to check, but try the above first. Problem with inbox and all mailboxes
Two problems. The first thing is that I used to know how many messages were in the inbox and the all mailboxes. However, that information is no longer available to me. Is there a fix for this? The other problem is is that when I delete messages from both boxes, they suddenly appear again. Is there a cure for this. By the way, my Mail account is a Gmail account. Re: Light detector apps?
Hi, I use Light detector, which I believe costs a dollar. There are lights on my washing machine that are half an inch apart, or maybe a little less, and it can detect which one is on. It plays a tone to indicate intensity, and you can also double-tap and get numeric feedback on the intensity. - Original Message - From: James Gashel via Nfbnet-master-list nfbnet-master-l...@nfbnet.org To: nfbnet-master-l...@nfbnet.org Sent: Friday, August 29, 2014 3:01 PM Subject: [Nfbnet-master-list] KNFB Reader iPhone app announcement FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Hai Nguyen Ly K-NFB Reading Technology, Inc. h...@knfbreader.com Announcing KNFB Reader for iOS Release Plan Waltham, MA (August 29, 2014): Responding to worldwide inquiries, K-NFB Reading Technology and Sensotec have announced today that the release of the KNFB Reader iPhone app is being scheduled to coordinate with Apple's upgrade to its new iOS 8 operating system, expected to occur on or about September 10, 2014. Commenting on this decision, K-NFB's Vice President of Business Development, James Gashel said: All of us at K-NFB and Sensotec are truly gratified with the worldwide interest expressed in the KNFB Reader iOS app. The app has been built for use with iPhone 5 or above, and running iOS 7 or higher. Our plan to coordinate its release with iOS 8 will best assure that the app works as intended for all users without any interruption or possible need to uninstall and upgrade due to Apple's newest operating system release. The KNFB Reader iOS app was first announced and demonstrated during the 2014 convention of the National Federation of the Blind in the United States. Since that time excitement about the life-changing potential of this app has been building as word of its release has spread around the world. Designed to be fast, accurate, and efficient, the KNFB Reader iPhone app allows anyone to snap a picture of printed text, in several languages, and quickly have the words read aloud. The first release will initially support read aloud in 11 languages, with more to come. The app has been designed to particularly benefit blind, visually impaired, and print disabled users. Documents can be saved, stored, and shared with others as well. More information about the KNFB Reader for iOS app is available at http://www.knfbreader.com, with links to video and audio presentations, description of features, and more. RE: knfb reader
Well, that’s one way to get another 2 weeks of time. The argument to wait with the release until iOS 8 is released is in my opinion just an excuse. KNFB had access to iOS 8 since June 2 and I bet they have tested the app on the various iOS 8 Betas and that everything works just fine. In any case, if they release the app the same day as iOS 8 will become available to the public it hardly gives them time to hear feedback and so on. RE: Would like to know about I download, would also like to know about a program to unzip MP3 files
Hi Terry, I can't help you with iDownload except my question would be that if you are looking for an app you need to get it on the app store, that is the only place where you can get apps for non-jailbroken devices. As for zipped \MP3 files I think voice Dream Reader will do the trick nicely. 10% discount of $50 iTunes cards at 7-Eleven in Canada
Hello Canadian List Members, Just found out that until Sunday, august 31 you can get a $50 itunes gift card at Canadian 7-Eleven stores for $45. Not sure if the same promotion exists in the States, maybe somebody there can check it. Last year at the end of July somebody told me they had a 20% discount on $50 cards so I bought 4 cards for $120, but had a $150 value. Now I have about $54 left from that $150 balance and I do plan to buy KNFB Reader when it comes out so I am going to pick up another $50 card today for the discounted price. This way my balance will be back up to about $104, enough for KNFB Reader which they announced will be $99. If I factor in what I paid for these cards, I will end up paying about $85 for the app. Anybody who plans to buy the app might as well grab 2 $50 cards and pay $90 for them, still a 10% discount. RE: An itunes music trivia game for your Itunes music library that is free and works with voice over
Terri, I like the music trivia games from the developer Webstone Oy. Running them down can be somewhat challenging since I think the app name might have changed along the way. They have both a free and $1.99 version of the app and it works by letting the player pick whether they want to guess artist or song and then pick from among a variety of music genres. You get one genre free to start with but you have to earn more coins with which to buy other genres. The music presented comes from the iTunes library so you'll need a wi-fi connection to play the game. You get 30 seconds to hear the song clip and you pick an answer from a multiple choice of 4. I find the game very entertaining. Here is a link to an AppleVis recap of the game: http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/games/music-quiz-guru-name-song-trivia Here is a link to the free version of the app which is called Guess the Song: Name that tune music quiz game free By Webstone Oy in the iTunes Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/guess-song-name-that-tune/id535057846?mt=8 Here's the link to the Song trivia, name that tune quiz PRO which costs $1.99 in the iTunes Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/song-trivia-name-that-tune/id533780325?mt=8 Alan Lemly -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Terri Elliott Sent: Friday, August 29, 2014 2:36 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: An itunes music trivia game for your Itunes music library that is free and works with voice over Hi. Hi, Looking at the screen you can access by pressing the more info button to the right of your wireless network name, after the button called static, what numbers are spoken for your ip address, router DNS? If you are it may be that your IP address settings are not correct. In the list of wireless networks flick right on the network in question and double tap on 'More Info'. If it's gotten set to BOOTP or Manual this could be your issue. Re: knfb reader
I believe KNFB are incorrect in thinking that iOS 8 will be released on or about the 10th. Apple's event is on the 9th. If Apple's past timetable is followed, and they have been very consistent in recent years, the Gold master of iOS 8 will be released to developers right after the presentation. That gives developers a few days to find absolute show stoppers, and they would have to be absolutely huge, for any change to be made. The iOS itself is released about a week later. That would make iOS 8 release day the 17th. One possible reason for KNFB delaying the release is if they are using some of the cool new APIs in 8. There are a lot of under the hood changes to the camera. RE: knfb reader
Hi Jonathan, Correct, from what I heard iOS 8 is expected to be released to the public on Wednesday, September 17 followed by the iPhone 6 on Friday the 19th. I guess we'll find out on Tuesday in a week whether there will be a 4.7 inch and a 5.5 inch iPhone 6 or if there will only be the 4.7 inch model for now with the larger one to follow later. I also heard rumours now that an iWatch may be announced on the 9th as well. Maybe the expected 13 Megapixel iPhone 6 camera which is rumoured to actually protrude a bit beyond the thickness of the phone along with these under the hood changes will make KNFB Reader on an iPhone 6 even better, but that certainly is not a reason why the app can't be released for the 5S with iOS 7 unless they are just not ready to release it to the public in which case they should just say so. Re: College Football
There are several different ones. The one I am using costs 9.99 per month, and is listed as College Sports Live in the app store. You will need to use a computer to sign up, and to put your credit card information in. It is through CBS interactive, and is what used to be All Access through College Sports TV. So far, it is usable with Voiceover. You just need to make sure that the teams you like are among the teams they carry. I'm sure others will tell you about other apps I own that you don't have to subscribe to, and they are some good ones, but you take a chance that none of the radio streams offered in those apps will work on all games. I really like college, football, and try to get as many options to listen as I can even if it requires several different apps to get what I want. Hope this helps. Mama Peach? I was getting that not connected to the Internet error too until I updated the game and that fixed the problem. Here's where the story gets a little unusual. While in the Apps store checking under updates, the Song Guru app was not listed with all my other Apps having updates. However, when I checked under the purchased listing at the top of the Apps store updates section, the entry for the Song Guru app in that list had an update button next to it. BTW, I could toss in the ue boom mini, but I wasn't sure if it was in the same league as the other 2. Re: knfb reader
Given all of the many changes Apple announced to the camera app at WWDC in June, I thought it seemed a little silly to announce at the NFB convention the release date would be two to three weeks before the release of iOS8. Why not avoid all the goofs who download the app right after release, don’t upgrade properly, and then complain about the app not preforming properly. Releasing after iOS 8 would encourage folks to install on top of the new iOS rather than the old one. From a marketing perspective, many people in North America and Europe are on vacation in August, going back to school, or otherwise tuned out. This weekend, Chicago has its jazz festival. The last thing I want to do is learn a new iPhone app on one of the last warm weekends of summer. I agree with Sieghard, the KNFB folks likely ran out of runway and needed to abort take off on the timeframe announced in early July, causing us to speculate needlessly on why this company cannot properly meet its commitments. This app has been hyped beyond belief. Will it slice bread after it is released? People are expecting perfection and the extraordinary. I’m waiting to learn about actual end user experiences beyond a scripted demonstration or from the favored people KNFB decided to allow to interact with the app. Kelly On 8/29/14, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hi Jonathan, Correct, from what I heard iOS 8 is expected to be released to the public on Wednesday, September 17 followed by the iPhone 6 on Friday the 19th.
