Re: I love my KNFB Reader
KNFB Reader uses the built-in US English voice to do the reading. In the app settings you can have it read automatically, which is the default, or you can turn that off so it only reads when you double tap on the play button. Or, of course, you can just read with VoiceOver and not use the play button. There is also a setting to allow reading in the background, so when you switch to another app, or just go to the home screen, it can continue reading. I haven't used a Quest, but one thing to keep in mind is that you aren't limited to the onboard camera. Bluetooth bar code scanners can be had for, I imagine, far less than the Quest or similar devices. You can then use those with Digit-Eyes, getting the immediate scanning of the dedicated scanner paired with the convenience of always-updated databases and the option of viewing the product on sites like directionsforme.com, which I believe Digit-Eyes can do. RE: dialPad staying on screen during calls
that's not dizzying. I've always done that with a traditional chordless phone, old telephone models, etc. It takes some experimentation to determine how many commas must be inserted for the correct pause length. At 05:04 PM 1/9/2015, you wrote: Maria As others have said, the dial pad should still be on screen while you are on a call. Here is what the Dresner book “Getting Started with …”says in regard to entering info such as account info or choosing menu items. It’s dizzying, and I doubt I could do it right off. See below. “If you want to call your bank and have your account information dialed at the appropriate time, or to call an office and have the phone automatically make menu choices for you when you call, activate the SHIFT button located below the 7. With SHIFT engaged, the 4, 6, 7, and 9 positions are occupied by the COMMA, SEMICOLON, STAR and POUND sign. There's a PLUS symbol to the right of SHIFT, and a second DELETE button to the right of that. The COMMA tells the phone to pause, making it possible to follow menu prompts and enter account numbers. Enter a COMMA symbol every time you need the phone to wait for a prompt. For instance, let's say your bank requires you to enter the digit 1 three times and then your account number when you call for information. You would enter the bank's phone number, then COMMA 1 COMMA 1 COMMA 1 COMMA followed by your account number. The 6 Plus is very big, but it does have the advantage of a big battery and hence very good battery life (at least for an iPhone). Just keep in mind that it's unlikely you have any smartphone for 7 years as you did your old phone. I think for most people 4 or at the most 5 years is the maximum lifetime of a phone nowadays since after that time you'll run into issues where your OS may not support new apps and so on. Of course batteries degrade over time and may not hold much of a charge any more and it's typically not worth spending $100 or more to pay somebody to put a new battery into, for example, an iPhone 3GS which is now the model of iPhone which if somebody had bought it at its release in the summer of 2009 would be now 5 and a half years old. It wouldn't even make sense if you had an iPhone 4 from 2010 although I know people who do have those and I'm always surprised how well they still do hold their charge. Buying an unlocked phone at full price would only make sense if you are able to get an inexpensive plan from an MVNO where you only pay $30 or $40 a months so that the $40 or $50 you save each months add up to a large enough amount over what would be your normal 2-year contract period that you actually save money in the end. Question is do I run around to the Verizon store to see what deal or spiel they give me, get on the phone or just go down to Apple! Three days ago, I purchased a 128GB unlocked T-Mobile iPhone 6 Plus. The first thing I did, even before leaving the Apple Store, was to insert an A T T Wireless SIM card, just to make certain it was truly unlocked (smile). I also had a sales person put on a screen protector. After returning home, I restored the phone from my 5 S and I was amazed at how complete the restoration was, given that my backup was not encrypted. The six plus is so fast that what, in the past at least, has taken up to 25 minutes to complete, only took approximately 15 minutes. The Restore was so thorough that it automatically put the new phone in Field Test mode. For those who may not know, field test mode allows one to toggle the cell signal indicator between either bars or numbers as a percentage of decibel strength. At the time of purchase, the phone came with iOS 8.1.1. So, when I got home, I updated to iOS 8.1.2. Now what I find fascinating is that, although on virtually every 6 Plus I used until this one, I could not use VoiceOver to summarily clear notifications as I did on my 5 S running 7.1.2. At the time of this post, I have tested or assisted in the purchase or setting up of no fewer than 20 iPhone sixes or 6 Pluses. On a whim and for no good reason that I can recall, on my new 6 plus, I single-finger, double-tapped on the Clear-All buttons in the Notifications Table and, each time, doing so cleared all of the notifications just as it

Allan, one question. Are you saying that Apps bought on the phone will only sync to iTunes if I connect via cable to the PC? Please clarify. thanks At 04:08 PM 1/2/2015, you wrote: Susan, I may not be the best one to address this topic but I'll say what I believe is right. Also, make sure you sync your iPod with your computer in iTunes so the apps get copied to your computer and will be included in the restored backup. I made the mistake with a friend thinking that apps on her phone would be automatically included in an iTunes encrypted backup but since the apps were downloaded on the phone which was never synced to iTunes, the apps were not restored. You can always re-download them from the iTunes Store but if you're using a preferred older version, you'll be out of luck because you'll get the current version from the iTunes Store. Good luck. Weather Apps That Work Well in Canada?
HI folks. Weather Radio seems to be US-only, at least when it comes to push notifications for alerts, weather radio broadcasts etc. What weather apps are other Canadians on here using? Re: Questions about iCloud and my iPhone 4.
Hi Kevin, Like you, I’ve got an iPhone4, so I can relate. It still works, so why upgrade? :-D I just recently quit my Internet Service Provider and went with a High Speed Internet. So I needed to change my e-mail address and so I had to change that on my iCloud/Apple ID. There’s a web site on the Apple Support website. I’m hoping that I can post the URL here: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667 Print out those instructions so that you can access them, then go to those locations and make the changes, putting in your new e-mail address. Next; my iPhone has sometimes asked for my Apple ID/iCloud ID password, even when I’m outside of WiFi. I don't know why. I just touch “Cancel”. It doesn’t really need to know. As for backing up your iPhone to the iCloud, You need to go to a place where you have WiFi and a power outlet. Your iPhone will back-up to the iCloud if it’s plugged into a power outlet and has WiFi. Go to the Settings iCloud Storage Backup (drag down to the bottom) slide the iCloud Backup slider green and then touch the Back Up Now. From now on your iPhone will back up when the iPhone is plugged in on WiFi and is locked. It will tell you when the last time your iPhone was backed up. Best of luck. --Rick On Thursday, November 27, 2014 8:06:59 PM UTC-8, Kevin Minor wrote: Hi. If so, how do I change it on my iPhone? Every so often, when I unlock my iPhone I am prompted to log into my iCloud account. I don’t see where to change the user ID, so I cancel it. As for the iCloud account, how do I back up my iPhone? If the time comes when I can get a newer iPhone, I’d like to be able to get all my stuff from the old iPhone and put it on the new one. PLAYING YOUTUBE VIDEOS WHILST WORKING THROUGH THE YOUVERSION BIBLE PLANS
Hi all,Hi all, I'm having a problem in getting videos to play whilst working through the YouVersion Bible plans, in that I can't work out quite where to tap to get a video started and am not not managing therefore to play the videos recommended by the author of the plan. However, when I tap on the YouVersion info, a video about this begins to play. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this or can tell me what I may need to do to play these videos? Apple Maps on a 5 S Versus a 6 Plus
Hello Sieghard and Everyone, I have changed the Subject line to more accurately reflect our discussion. I was thinking about convening a group conference call to discuss the features of Apple Maps if anyone would be interested. Sieghard, you know, the problem with email is that, while so much can be expressed with merely the written word, so much more cannot be expressed. Allow me to clarify my previous comments: I do have access to an iPhone 64GB 5 S running 8.1.2. In general, the OS feels less responsive to me on the 5 S than it does on the 6 Plus especially where Safari is concerned. This is definitely true with regard to screen refresh rates. Without going into details, simply put, I cannot reproduce many of the iOS 8.1.2 bugs, many have reported on-list, on my 6 Plus; not the least of which being the Notifications Clear All Button problem. However, I can reproduce many of these bugs, including the Notifications Clear All Button problem on the 5 S. Sieghard, with your comments in mind, I decided to do a side-by-side comparison of the Apple Maps app on both the 5 S and the 6 Plus, today. I took both of the phones, simultaneously, on two routes, one walking and one in a vehicle. The following are my conclusions: Please note that before I began my tests, I closed all previously opened apps on both devices and performed a system reboot. During the test, I held one device in my right hand and the other in my left. 1. Assuming that there are no interruptions such as incoming phone calls, SMS messages, etc, to my surprise, the app performed identically on both devices. 2. Any interruptions during navigation, such as incoming calls, SMS messages, etc caused some navigation delay on the 5 S. Also, screen refresh rates and VoiceOver response time was noticeably slower on the 5 S after experiencing said interruptions. 3. The battery drain on the 5 S was significantly greater than on the 6 Plus. Finally, I have decided to upgrade my 5 S to 8.1.2. What I don't logically understand is why Apple Maps on a 6 Plus running 8.1.2 should be a much better experience than on a 5S running 8.1.2. Apart from the larger screen there is little difference between the two phones as far as I can tell when it comes to the components which effect Apple Maps. You said yourself that you did not have 8.1.2 installed on your 5S. Regards, Sieghard -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of M. Taylor Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2015 9:13 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: How About Sending Apple Some Love Hello Krister, First let me say that, from a VoiceOver perspective especially, there is a big difference between the iOS 7.1.2 and the iOS 8.1.2 version of Apple Maps, the latter being much better and more streamline in almost every aspect. Second, Apple Maps now uses Tom-Tom as it's mapping source so its accuracy rivals that of Google Maps. Third, in my opinion only, version 8.1.2, in general, and Apple Maps, specifically, does not perform as well on the 5 S and earlier models as it does on the 6 series. The difference to me at least is astonishing. Keep in mind that while I did not install 8.1.2 on my own 5 S, I did use it quite a bit on those with which I have access and was not that impressed. Finally, as I really don't like Apple Maps 7.1.2, when you have access to iOS 8.1.2, please send me your contact info, off-list, and I will be happy to walk you through the Apple Maps, so to speak. Using the app is so simple once several key concepts are understood. In fact, the Apple Maps app is the simplest and most accurate off-the-shelf software GPS interface I've ever used on iOS. The phone is so responsive to commands, the battery life is amazing, relatively speaking, and the versatility seemingly limitless. I have not truly enjoyed conversing on a mobile phone since the early 90s when phones were much larger. However, with my 6 Plus, I actually prefer to hold the phone up to my face, during calls, as it feels like a normal-size receiver. The sound quality on the 6/6 Plus is awesome, also. I could go on and on about the marvelous properties of the 6 Plus but doing so is not the purpose of this post. Although I never dreamed it would happen, I have to say that I am now using the iOS Apple Maps more than any other, off-the-shelf software GPS navigation solution. Yes, I am even liking it more than A T T Navigator. Please note that this does not include Seeing Eye GPS as it provides a level of feedback that is unparalleled in that it provides cross-street announcements that sighted travelers do not require. Earlier today, I sent a letter to Apple thanking them for making their iOS Apple Maps so very VoiceOver accessible. I wanted to acknowledge that unlike so many other mapping services, they did not forget those of us who are blind or low vision. At a time when so many of us, humans that is, are so fast to point out flaws and so slow to offer compliments, I wanted Apple to know that I owe a great deal of my ever-increasing independence to their consideration and efforts. So, the reason I am posting is to invite you to send Apple some love by sending in some positive feedback about whatever you like about their products. For example, today I submitted comments about how much I am truly enjoying the iOS 8.1.2 Apple Maps app via VoiceOver. RE: Apple TV Question
Hi, For awhile, we have been thinking about purchasing an Apple Tv because, apparently, it is easier to access Netflix and other such services on the Apple Tv, as opposed to the Apps on the iDevices. We have the bose Sound bar, but, we have connected it directly to the audio outputs on our cable box, rather than the TV. We do have a Samsung TV, which we use when we have company; but, since my husband and I are totally blind, we simply want the audio. So, here's the question, rather than connecting the Apple TV to the actual TV set, can we connect it directly to the cable box and still get Netflix? I'm back
Hi all -- I'm back for the new year and am trying still to get accustomed to my new iphone6 Thanks to some tips from friends I got it initialized and made a few calls, but my problem now is that I accidently defined a passcode that I didn't want -- I mean, I hit the wrong numbers and have no idea what the passcode is. So I'm locked out of my own phone. I'm looking for someone to tell me how I can erase and start over on this phone. I had no data on it yet, so I don't care abojut losing anything. I was told by apple tech support that I should fire up itunes, but I did that and looked through all the menus and could find nothing to restore a blank phone. Has anyone done this? Thanks in advance! --le -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: VoiceOver reading character by cbharacacter
Turn the rotor to the characters setting and then flic up and down to read forward or backward character by character. Same goes for the lines and words settings. I usually have my rotor left on the characters setting as it only applies when you flic up and down. Continuous reading still works as usual rather than spelling out everything. Query re upgrading to IPhone 6 or 6+?
Hi All Just after some advice please. I'm currently using an IPhone 5S. However, my contract is up for renewal and I'm entitled to an upgrade. So am looking at either the 6 or 6+. So can anyone tell me of any pros and cons or advantages and disadvantages related to either of these phones? Does anyone have a view on which one works better? Which one is easier for someone with no sight at all to deal with? Are there any big problems with either of them which I need to be aware of? Are there any major differences between the 5S and either the 6 or 6+ which I need to know about? Any other useful information anyone can give me about them? Sorry for all the questions which are probably really obvious I know, but I really want to go into the phone shop able to make an informed choice which is sensible and which will work for me. So any advice at all really very much appreciated. Thanks. Eleanor Sent from my iPad -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: ITUNES MATCH
Hi Carol, iTunes Match is an annual subscription, so you pay $24.99 once a year. It’s an automatic payment unless you change this. You don’t have to do anything special once you’ve got it. iTunes wil go through all of your music. If it has a copy in the iTunes store, you will have access to that copy. If it doesn’t, it will upload your music. If you rip more CDs, it will check them and upload if necessary automatically. When you turn on iTunes Match on your phone, you’ll see all of your music listed. Beside each album and track not on your phone, there will be a Download button you can use to download it. If you play a track without downloading first, it is streamed to your phone and also downloads, though the Download button doesn’t go away. The nice things about iTunes Match are first, the obvious, that all of your music is available on all of your devices. The other great thing is that if you ripped an album at a low bit rate and that music is in the iTunes store, you can download a higher bit rate version. I believe a track has to be at least 96 KBPS bit rate for iTunes Match to match it though. I hope that helps. Re: Digit-Eyes or ID Mate Quest?
One thing to note is that Digit-Eyes works very well if you use it correctly, but a barcode scanner will always be quite a lot faster. So, if you don't want to take up to a minute or three to get an item identified, then go for the Quest. If you go with Digit-Eyes, remember to place the camera on or very close to the item, then slowly pull back so the auto-focus can kick in. You also have to get good at knowing about where the barcode is located on the item. A barcode scanner does not need to focus and can scan significantly faster. If you have the $1300 to spend on the Quest, spend $20 on Digit-EYES to see if it meets your needs f/) Just my opinion, Richard Reality is the leading cause of stress for those who are in touch with it. Re: Exploring Files and Folders in iOS?
Each application on the iPhone only has access to it's own space in memory and on storage, so there is no way you can use something like a file browser to see what's on your iPhone. The best way to explore what's on your iPhone and move content over to it is with iTunes. Re: Query re upgrading to IPhone 6 or 6+?
Some accessibility notes on why you might consider the larger screen of the 6 Plus, taken from my article at: http://www.applevis.com/blog/apple-carriers-ios-iphone-news/recap-and-opinions-apples-fall-2014-announcements One thing the article doesn't mention is that the iPhone 6 Plus supports the Perkins style layout for braille screen input, no flattened V shape necessary. Some users also find that typing with the regular on-screen keyboard (in landscape mode) is a joy, almost like typing on a small hardware keyboard. I don't have a 6 Plus so can't comment personally. Anyway, here's the excerpt: The larger screen seems to many people to be, at first, a non-issue at best and an annoyance at worst. If you can't see the screen, why would you want to use a phone that has a huge one (I'm looking at you, 6 Plus)? You have to figure out where to put this massive device, get used to your apps being even bigger, figure out new layouts… Why bother? Aside from the fact that the iPhone 6 is actually not much larger than the 5S (the screen is larger, but there is less of a bezel), I can come up with a few reasons: The larger screen means a larger phone, which means a larger battery. The battery life on the iPhone 6 is better than the 5S, and the 6 Plus battery is better than the 6. This is a win for all users, especially if you rely on battery-draining GPS or audio apps. You have more room on the screen for touch. If you are someone who touches things instead of flicking to them, you might find you enjoy having more content (especially on webpages) available to you on a single screen. Even if you flick instead of touch, you will be able to fit more text from, say, an iBooks or Kindle book. That means more time between that pause while the page is turned. Low vision users will love this. Magnification apps, zoom, larger text, and similar apps and services will have more room to play with, letting users see more at once instead of needing to scroll so much. Another win for low vision users is Display Zoom, which will shrink the current app down to a smaller size, then zoom it to the full size of the iPhone's screen. This sounds confusing, but it has the effect of making an app larger and easier to see. If you use Apple Maps, Ariadne, or other apps that offer accessible maps on the screen, you will have a lot more room to explore said maps, even when zoomed in. The iPhone 6 Plus supports special landscape views in certain apps. For instance, in Mail, switching to landscape mode will show the list of messages on the left, and the currently open message on the right, similar to an iPad. You might find this increased content on a single screen more efficient. Wired vs. Wireless Transfer of Apps to iTunes was RE: confused about options for setting up phone
Chris, I'm not sure if apps bought on the iPhone will only transfer to iTunes and the computer if you have a wired connection. That is the way that I do it because my understanding is that it is much faster transferring wired rather than wirelessly. You can also transfer items from the iPhone to the computer within iTunes by placing focus on your device, opening a context menu, and selecting transfer purchases. I'm using iTunes 11.4 for Windows so I'm not sure the steps to get to Transfer Purchases if you're running the latest iTunes 12.x. You'll get the most restored from an iTunes encrypted backup. Good luck. Re: when is the next ios update have to come any idea?
Like others have said Ricky, we have no way of knowing exactly when an IOS update will be released since Apple, as is true with most companies, doesn't announce when updates will be made available. It isn't hard to figure out from the news on the web though that we should see something soon. Although no one can answer your question for certain, it's still a legitimate question, and you shouldn't be put off by those who will tell you it's frivolous instead of just hitting the delete key and letting someone else provide a more constructive response. Re: dialing 9-1-1
Hi, I meant to come in earlier on this. to dial emergency you awake the phone press the home button. Then touch the unlock button. Don’t use your fingerprint to open the phone. After you have touched the open button near the top of screen where yu would normally enter your pin for the phone you will find an emergency button. Pressing this will take you to a dial pad where you enter your emergency number. Here 000 or I gather in the US 911. Hope this helps. Max. They vary from what Keith described where you just have to shake the phone to dial, maybe a good option if your hands are shaking already *smile*, and others where a good part of the screen is taken up by one big button which will dial 9-1-1 when you tap it. I guess everybody should think about this and decide for themselves whether they would be able to dial 9-1-1 in a stressful emergency situation or whether one of these apps might be a good option for them. Re: Exploring Files and Folders in iOS?
Look for the apps:- ubidisk, phonedrive. There's probably more, and not checked out the latest versions for continued accessibility. They have a tendency to break it. But they're the sort of thing that offers file management as we know it, and does offer ftp and http access over wifi for file transfer. I liked it better than Dropbox for sure. But the files are only the data part of the app, and given how much that can be, it is something to exclude from iCloud backup. But at least I could double tap on a file and open it, read it, play it and so on. And other options like copy, move and generally sort your files around in the app. Understand: you do Not get access to the folder structure of iOs and the system, or data of any other app. RobH. - Original Message - From: Chris Smart csma...@cogeco.ca To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2015 3:51 PM Subject: Exploring Files and Folders in iOS? Would be a pity if the speaker on the device was starting to go. If it's only the device you plugged in, then that speaker or the connection is at fault. Even the lead maybe. Seeking Comments on Using the Jawbone Up 24 Fitness Tracker and Join Me In Requesting Greater VoiceOver Accessibility
Hello Everyone, A couple of days ago I purchased the Jawbone Up 24 Fitness Tracker from the Apple Store. Upon launching the Up app, I was somewhat disappointed to discover that the app is not comfortably VoiceOver accessible. In my opinion, without sighted assistance, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to even get the app setup properly. Even after setup, many of the app's most exciting feedback features are not VoiceOver accessible. Is anyone using this device? And if so, have you found many workarounds? Perhaps you use the device with a different app that works with the tracker, if so, please advise. It's funny, a friend of mine, who is also a VoiceOver user, tells me that the FitBit app is marvelously VoiceOver accessible and she uses it with her Fitbit Flex. As some of you may know, Apple stopped selling Fitbit a few days after it announced the iWatch. However, they continue to sell the Jawbone fitness tracking products. In the meantime, I sent an email to Jawbone requesting VoiceOver accessibility. Please join me in requesting that VoiceOver accessibility be added to the Jawbone Up app by sending an email to: mobilesupp...@jawbone.com Thank you and I look forward to reading your replies. Re: Seeking Comments on Using the Jawbone Up 24 Fitness Tracker and Join Me In Requesting Greater VoiceOver Accessibility
Hi, I’m sorry to report that you probably won’t have much luck here. I purchased a Jawbone Up24 in August 2013, while in a dialogue with Jawbon regarding the accessibility of their app. the nice lady I spoke with didn’t know much about VoiceOver, but she tested the app for me prior to purchase and felt it would work. It turned out to be unuseable, and while Jawbone told me they would be investigating this further, I decided to return the Jawbone Up because the app needed a huge amount of work to make it VoiceOver friendly. I told Jawbone I would purchase the Up again if the app became accessible, but I ended up going with the Fitbit Flex instead, because of the accessibility. Fitbit is the most accessible wearable technology I have tried. I do keep the Up app on my phone to try to keep an eye on accessibility improvements, but so far, there have been none. I would recommend returning the Up and going with Fitbit. They have a couple of new armbands out that can keep track of even your heart rate, and they know when you are sleeping without your having to put them in sleep mode. I can’t say for sure that these are accessible, but they don’t require a separate app from the app that all their other trackers use, as far as I know, so I’m assuming they would be. Hope this helps, Cheryl Sent from Windows Mail From: Katey Glass Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2015 3:57 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Hello Mark, Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the JawBone Up app, as like your friend I decided to go with the FitBit Flex because I'd heard it was voiceOver accessible. Re: Query re upgrading to IPhone 6 or 6+?
I can understand the advantage of the Perkins style keyboard but, if you have got used to brailling with the 4S in landscape mode and grippinng the phone with thumbs, I'm not sure the larger phone will necessarily gain anything for me anyway, but I'm watching the space and intend to look again at both before deciding on size. For me, although there is a decidedly better battery span on the plus, it's more important that I get the right size. I'm not a great fan of split screens either, so will look again at this in the mail app in particular. Thanks for the info. Carol P - Original Message - From: Alex Hall To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2015 4:09 PM Subject: Re: Query re upgrading to IPhone 6 or 6+? Aside from the fact that the iPhone 6 is actually not much larger than the 5S (the screen is larger, but there is less of a bezel), I can come up with a few reasons: a.. The larger screen means a larger phone, which means a larger battery. The battery life on the iPhone 6 is better than the 5S, and the 6 Plus battery is better than the 6. This is a win for all users, especially if you rely on battery-draining GPS or audio apps. b.. You have more room on the screen for touch. If you are someone who touches things instead of flicking to them, you might find you enjoy having more content (especially on webpages) available to you on a single screen. Even if you flick instead of touch, you will be able to fit more text from, say, an iBooks or Kindle book. That means more time between that pause while the page is turned. c.. Low vision users will love this. Magnification apps, zoom, larger text, and similar apps and services will have more room to play with, letting users see more at once instead of needing to scroll so much. d.. Another win for low vision users is Display Zoom, which will shrink the current app down to a smaller size, then zoom it to the full size of the iPhone's screen. This sounds confusing, but it has the effect of making an app larger and easier to see. e.. If you use Apple Maps, Ariadne, or other apps that offer accessible maps on the screen, you will have a lot more room to explore said maps, even when zoomed in. f.. The iPhone 6 Plus supports special landscape views in certain apps. Dave, I believe you might be able to back up to iCloud too but I've never done this as I prefer backing up to a computer with a wired connection. RE: Advice appreciated re upgrading my IPhone
Alex, what do you mean by this second line of yours that I will quote below? Most carriers don't support certain features? I just ordered a IPhone 6 64g from Verizon cause I got a very good deal due to my being what they call a loyalty customer. Alex wrote: Upgrading would give you a better camera, larger screen, faster processor/graphics chip, NFC for using Apple Pay, a longer battery life, upgraded Touch ID sensor, and improved internal LTE radio. *The last one gives you access to HD calls, faster LTE speeds, and more, but all of those require your carrier to support the features, and not many do right now. HD calls also require the other person to be using a device that can also handle the new technology. The Plus offers all that, plus a yet larger screen, more ram, a way longer battery life, and automatic stabilization for taking pictures. The debate continues as to whether this stabilization actually helps in OCR apps.
