VoiceOver saying Actions Available

2016-07-14 Thread richardturner42
Someone asked me today why VoiceOver says "actions available" at the end of a
text message they just read. Hints are off.
They either just noticed it, or it just started.
Any thoughts?

And when I called, the tech made it clear that since I'm using windows and a

Hi, yep, I'd be very happy! I haven't written on this recently but, to be
honest, I am seriously taking a look elsewhere because I'm sick of the constant
change in the app and the things that are difficult to visualise, slow to move
to and change every time there's a new version, not to mention those things
that just don't work after a new version comes out. It's not good enough in my
book and certainly spoils what I still consider to be the very best device out
there so far as accessability is concerned.

I am wondering if Apple's policy is that everyone who can't manage iTunes, or
doesn't want to bother with it, doesn't have to as they can use the Cloud and
download all the music from - well, guess where!

No, we already have lots of music and want to use it ...

Yes, we still have a Windows PC and the learning curve with a Mac was too great
for me so I gave it up ...

You're welcome to pass this on!

go to the bluetooth and locate the device and look for a button that says

Re: How /Do I Close a Folder with Files in It?

I’m currently using the Dropbox app to view them because I haven’t decided how
many of them I want to keep on my iPad Mini. I’d certainly like to keep some of
them though, and I’ll probably need to know how to do the same thing in the
Music app as well I would expect when I transfer more of them over.

RE: Apple Watch

2016-07-14 Thread Merv Keck
I got my 38 mm sport for $250 $U S back in February or March. I thought that
was a fair deal for a new Apple Watch so I decided to not wait until September.
So far I have been pretty happy with everything except battery life. Even with
a lot of things turned off I end up charging my watch twice a day. Probably
because I live in Florida and get quite a few Weather alerts for multiple
locations in a 12 hour period.

If I was looking to buy one now I might wait until September unless the price
was really good. I love answering the phone on my watch if I get caught in the
middle of something and can’t get to my phone.

Hi Elayne,

I believe there are a number of Podcasts both on Applevis and Cool Blind Tech.
Remember that there is a good chance Apple is going to release a new, second
generation Apple Watch this fall. This could happen as early as the first or
second sweek of September when they usually have their iPhone event and since
that is less than 2 months away I’d seriously consider waiting. Even if you
decide you would still like to get the original Apple Watch you can probably
get some good bargains. If a new watch is coming some large retailers like Best
Buy may start discounting the original watch even in August in anticipation of
the new model and also as part of Back to School promotions. Of course this is
only a guess, but if you waited this long you could wait another 6 or 8 weeks?
Apparently Watch OS which also has a beta version out now is much improved and
I wouldn’t be surprised if new hardware this fall will add even more features
and improvements. I have so far resisted getting an Apple Watch and I am
definitely waiting to see what Apple may have coming up since I am not at all
planning to upgrade my 6S Plus already this year. It’s fun to have the latest
and greatest, but also with the iPhone I don’t expect anything earth shattering
this fall according to what rumours are out there, but there are already
rumours that the 2017 iPhones which are the 10th anniversary iPhones will get a
major overhaul which may include wireless charging, a new form factor and much
more.

Regards,

Sieghard

Re: Voicedream writer: how to import files from dropbox

2016-07-14 Thread Chris Chaffin

Is the file you are trying to open from Dropbox a plain text file?
Currently, this is the only type of file you can import.

After double tapping the file you want, it should automatically close the
dropbox windows and put the file in the edit field within the Writer app.

Hope this helps,

Chris

No, it's not asking for my passcode. Every time I try to get anything from the

The best way, I've found, is to use the spell check feature in Writer.
Maybe others have tried other methods that could help.

Re: Apple Watch

2016-07-14 Thread Aleeha Dudley
Hey Keith,
Apple was very careful to show that all the new features in Watch OS 3 would
work on the current watch. However, there are many sources out there that say
that apple is coming out with a new one very soon. Especially given some of the
new features, the watch is really going to need a RAM and memory boost to
shine. It’s also about time for a new one, given the amount of time since the
original was released. One of the more recent Blind Bargains podcasts mentions
some of these details as well. I believe it’s number 66.

It’s fun to have the latest
and greatest, but also with the iPhone I don’t expect anything earth shattering
this fall according to what rumours are out there, but there are already
rumours that the 2017 iPhones which are the 10th anniversary iPhones will get a
major overhaul which may include wireless charging, a new form factor and much
more.

RE: Using GPS Apps in the UK

2016-07-14 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi Sieghard and Eleanor,

Thanks for the good suggestions. I had forgotten that Seeing Eye had the
one-month subscription option. I don't own either Seeing Eye or Blind Square
yet.

I know this is very subjective, but I am trying to get an idea of what our data
usage might be like and how much we might need if using online maps. We will
probably be getting off the ship at about 14 ports, although some will be in
Scotland and one in Whales, and I have only seen Ireland and England referenced
here so far for use with Blind Square. I really have no clue as to how fast a
couple hundred meg of data might get used up. Getting a pre-paid plan in
England might be a better way to go. If there is anyone in the U.K. who wants
to chime in with suggestions, I would appreciate that.

Now I am going to have nightmares about Sandy's vacuum chasing us all over
Ireland...lol!

Hi Pam,

As for free offerings I would say Apple Maps and Google Maps would be your best
and most accessible options.
You may want to check with Sendero about getting a one-month subscription for
the UK version of the Seeing Eye app and Blindsquare, if you already own it,
will probably work well in England and Ireland.
As for data you should see if you can get AT&T to unlock your phones or at
least one of them. This way you could get a prepaid plan in the UK and I'm sure
some of the list members from England can give you some information, but you
can get some pretty good plans in many European countries for not all that much
money.
Lastly, when you stop in Ireland make sure Sandy's robotic vacuum hasn't
escaped although my understanding is that has pretty good collision avoidance
so you are probably safe *smile*.

Hi All,

My husband and I will be taking a cruise that stops at ports in England,
Scotland, Whales, and Ireland. We are both blind, and are looking for
recommendations for good GPS apps we can use there while walking and/or taking
taxis.

We live in the U.S. and we are also looking at the AT&T plans for data usage
while we are overseas. The cheapest one is for 200 meg of data. I do not
really have a good idea of how far this would go while using any online maps.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

strange braille display issue

2016-07-14 Thread Patti Johnson
I am noticing suddenly my focus 40 braille display will not stay
paired with my phone. Just in the last day or so it's gone off, I've
locked then unlocked the phone and it's come back. I wondered if the
plug was not in well but it is.
The display is not a later one, one of the earlier focus 40s; so I
wonder if that is the problem.
Sure would hate to loose it, it's wonderful being able to use it on
the phone or ipad.
Any ideas? I know I can unpair and pair it again, and I will if I
have to, but just wondered if anybody else has had this problem.
Thanks,

RE: Need some help turning off this varification code thing I somehow turned on.

2016-07-14 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

Are you sure they're just not asking for your AppleID passcode?

After one powers off the phone and reactivates the device, entering your
passcode is required, the touch ID is not yet active on the phone.
After the above, the first time one goes back to the AppStore to purchase an
app, one must enter the Apple passcode associated with your AppleID.

I'm not sure if this also applies to the circumstance you described, where
after unlocking the phone and a passcode is asked for, that this step would
also be necessary.

I can't tell from your message below if you are getting a second request for a
code, or just the one.

At any rate, I hope you get this fixed. I can't believe one could mistakenly
activate 2-step verification.

Keith

So, I did a quick Google search about what's going on with my iPhone, and the
answers I got just left me more confused than I already was. Firstly, what's
the difference between two-factor authentication and twostep thearification?

Here's what's going on. A few days ago, I unlocked my iPhone only to be greeted
by a prompt to enter my Apple ID password. There was nothing on the screen to
explain why I needed to do this, but ever since getting iOS 9 a while back,
I've had to do this from time to time. I didn't think anything of it, because
nothing ever seemed to happen afterward. Now, though, every time I try to
purchase something from the app store, I'm greeted with a varification code
prompt. The only text message-capable iDevices in our household are my iPhone
6S and my husband's iPhone 5C. This varification code thing is a huge hastle
for both of us. How on Earth can I get rid of it?

Thanks,
Ari

RE: Using GPS Apps in the UK

2016-07-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,
Sieghard

Voicedream writer: a question about cursor routing while editing

2016-07-14 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I've just started playing with voicedream writer on my iPad and it
seems pretty nice. I plan on checking out a podcast someone
recommended by mystic access, but in the meantime I have a question.

If I am reading over a document I just created and I notice a typo or
something else that needs correction, is there a fast and easy way to
route the cursor directly to that place?

My problem right now is that the edit cursor (for lack of a better
term) is nowhere near the reading cursor. So when I find a typo, it's
a struggle and very time consuming to get the cursor positioned so I
may make the correction.

Thanks for any pointers.

Kimber

RE: Apple Watch

2016-07-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

It’s fun to have the latest
and greatest, but also with the iPhone I don’t expect anything earth shattering
this fall according to what rumours are out there, but there are already
rumours that the 2017 iPhones which are the 10th anniversary iPhones will get a
major overhaul which may include wireless charging, a new form factor and much
more.

Sieghard

Chirpomatic let's you record a bird's song and the app then tries to identify
it. As they say on their website, Chirpomatic is for birds what Shazam is for

Ari,

Yes! ChirpoMatic is a birdsong identifier. Having identified your bird, you
have an option to go into Chirp to learn more about that particular bird. There
are pictures and general info in Chirp. Chirp is the app which is a sort of
library of all the Birds in the target area, I.E., in my case, Britain, Ireland
and Northern West Europe. If you like, Chirp is the reference guide and
Chirpomatic is the tool, linking actual birdsong around you to the reference
guide. In Chirp, you can select a bird and listen to recordings of its calls. I
think you can choose to listen to a sort of medley of songs, but not sure, mine
is an old version

So, lets not get too "Twitchy" ove this!!

Hello, and thank you for the responses to my questions.

I really appreciate it. Yes, this definitely seems complicated to
accomplish. Now, if in someway you are able to accomplish this, getting the
code, and going to the necessary webpage, what will this do? I mean, what
will this allow you to do? I am guessing for YouTube, it will allow you to
sign in over Apple TV. Is this correct?

But what will it do for the other channels, such as ABC?

Thank you again,

Terri

remember correctly, you only have a limited time to get this code entered
in on the appropriate web page. I own a 4th generation, so I am not sure
how much time you are given on a 3rd generation, if it is even different.
This can be rather frustrating to say the least.

Subject: Question regarding Apple TV, and channels

Hi everyone,

I have an Apple TV, 3rd generation model. I do not currently have cable.
So I realize what I can do, is limited.

Although, I do have a Netflix, and Hulu account.

Here is my question.

I want to use YouTube on my Apple TV. But when I try to choose my YouTube,
it says something about going to a certain YouTube page, and entering this
code. But I do not understand how to keep the code up on the screen, and
re-read it.

Can I do that? I am totally blind.
Once I go and enter this code, will I then be able to use my YouTube
account on Apple?
It has said this for channels like, abc also. After I watch so many
episodes of a show. If I do this for these other channels, then will I
mostly have full access?

Any help will be very much appreciated. I am trying to understand this
all.

Thank you,

Terri

I do that and even do the three finger swipe down where it plays the

Re: Link for ChirpOMatic,

2016-07-14 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Ari,
