Well voice dream reader has dropbox. I was just wondering if there was a way to
get files that are already on the phone into dropbox on the phone. I suppose I
could copy them in from another computer if that other computer would boot. It
won't.

Re: USB cable question

2016-08-06 Thread englishrider91
Ixcc makes good, reliable MFI cables. I highly recommend that brand. No
shortouts, and even when I shove the 6-foot Cable I have by my bed under my
pillow (and as a result, have sort of bent the wiring in multiple directions)
the cable is still holding up very, very well. They also work with the OtterBox
Defender case for my iPhone 6S.

Thanks, Ari

I looked at some settings within voice dream reader for dropbox and other

I am definitely not seeing that option. I look for it also. It's very strange.
I looked at some settings within voice dream reader for dropbox and other
things and didn't see anything but I must be missing something here not sure
what. Meanwhile I am uploading some of these videos to YouTube which of course
it takes forever to do. Dropbox seems a little more or I don't know direct so
that I can send things to specific people know that they will receive them
provided they take the time to download them. Do I need to have iCloud turned
on to be doing this question to take files that are already on the phone and
put them in drop box question

Hi Alan,

Try changing your punctuation from none to some. That should fix the problem.

While I appreciate your opinion, I've always preferred the Samantha high
quality voice and the default lower quality one doesn't change the issue I
posted about. In addition to my original post differences, I'm also noticing
that my status bar now pronounces the number of wifi bars as weefee bars when
I'm sure it used to say WyFie bars. And my battery charge now says 93 battery
power instead of 93 percent battery power as it used to.

Rebooting my phone or choosing the default voices doesn't change these new
pronunciations and I'm surprised no one else is experiencing them.

Actually in my opinion, the Samantha low quality voice sounds better than the
high quality voice. It sound like it should be the other way around. Try using
the lower quality voice and see if your issues are still there.

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed a couple of VoiceOver changes that I
became aware of in the past couple of days. I updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9.3.4
last night but I noticed these changes while still running iOS 9.3.3.

The first change is minor and concerns how VO speaks the minutes when
announcing the time when they are less than 10 after the hour. I feel certain
that before a couple of days ago, VO would say the o for zero before announcing
the minute. For example if the time were 8:05 a.m., VO would say 8 oh 5 a.m.
Now, VO is saying 8 5 a.m. Like I said, no big deal but I'm curious why they
would change such a thing and I'm wondering if anyone else noticed it.

The other issue is more annoying. When VO is reading my texts and emails I've
composed back to me, the pause indicating punctuation such as a period at the
end of a sentence seems to have greatly decreased or disappeared altogether.
I've had to double check on more than one occasion to ensure that I included a
period because VO read my text as if the sentences were typed without one. I've
reviewed my VoiceOver settings to make sure nothing has been added to control
this and could not find anything. Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm using the Samantha high quality voice for VoiceOver if this makes a
difference.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

2016-08-06 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi. I think the pauses vary by voice to voice. When I use a Neospeech voice or
one of the built-in iOS voices, the pauses are pretty short. However, when I
use a voice from Acapela, the pauses are a lot longer than Neospeech or iOS
voices. Why not try an Acapela voice and see what that gives you?

When I double tapped on share, then flicked through the options, save to
Dropbox was one of the options.
When I double tapped on that, I had the option to save it anywhere on Dropbox I

RE: How in the world does anyone use Ok Google on an iPhone

2016-08-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Brian,

You may just simply put a finger over the speaker port at the bottom right of
the phone before you say "OK Google". Voiceover on my 6S Plus also says
"Cancel", but it just doesn't seem to make a difference, I just wait a moment
until it's done saying "Cancel" and then ask my question. Of course turning
Voiceover off with a 3-finger double tap does solve this and also avoids
Voiceover speaking at the same time when Google self-voices an answer to your
question.

Regards,
Sieghard

Thanks for all the feedback. Thanks Sieghard unfortunately I had my settings
just like you had mentioned and still getting the cancel before saying anything
which then leads to only getting results half the time. Guess this is why I do
not use Google for anything much anymore. Thanks again.

It is not currently an option in VDR.
Perhaps you should write the developer and ask if that could be added.
Later,

VDR reads according to the punctuation in the document.
Is this a book, or a document you have uploaded?
If a document you have uploaded, you may want to check that it has good
punctuation.

I'll check the next time I have my device handy.

I just looked at a video in my photos app.
When I double tapped on share, then flicked through the options, save to
Dropbox was one of the options.
When I double tapped on that, I had the option to save it anywhere on Dropbox I
wanted.
Are you not finding that option?

Transferring videos from the phone directly into dropbox on the phone

2016-08-06 Thread Deidre Muccio
Hello all,
I'm trying to get some videos some as long as 15 minutes into dropbox. These
videos are sitting in my photos application on the phone. I appear to have just
transferred five of them into notes. There really should be a way to get them
into dropbox via voice dream reader right? I see absolutely no import button
anywhere even though when I did a Google search it said to look for an import
button. Is there way this can be done? I have The same files on my old computer
which has suddenly just refused to boot. I think it's done for. Anyway these
videos are sitting here on my phone and they're too big to transfer easily. Any
other suggestions if the dropbox thing isn't doable? Thanks in advance.

RE: looking for a carb counting app

2016-08-06 Thread Cristóbal
LoseIt is pretty good and for the most part accessible, but for two major
issues. You can search and add foods with no problem, but once an item is added
and in your log, VO can’t read what you entered in the log. It’ll just say
button. I haven’t figured out how to scan either.

It’s not a terrible road block for me as I’m married to a working set of eyes,
but if you don’t have access to someone with vision, this may present a
challenge.

Everything but for this unlabled button issue and the ability to scan is
accessible.

RE: amazon app, major bug

2016-08-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you ever need to tap a button with Voiceover off, find the button and put
your finger over it so you are just not touching the screen. Now triple click
the home button to turn Voiceover off by triple clicking the home button with
the other hand. Once Voiceover is off tap the screen where you are hovering
with your finger and hope you hit the button in question. I find that it helps
when my phone is on a solid surface like a table.

Arnold and others,

I don't know if we're getting different results from Google but when I just
tried saying okay Google, focus does move to a cancel button at the bottom of
the screen but VoiceOver saying cancel didn't affect my Google search. I just
asked my question after VO said cancel and Google answered me just fine.

Well, i had not 1 but 2 reps try it. Both of them actually use it all

results.
I placed an order on the pc with no problem. It's certainly an app issue.

Hello Jed,

You know, I've been following this thread and a couple of things come to
mind:

Have you attempted to place an order from a desktop web browser,

actual Amazon account.

To be honest, and I don't doubt you for a minute, I find it difficult to
believe that Apple accessibility could/would confirm such a bug with a
third-party app.

This is to say, in order to confirm such a problem, the Apple rep would
have to (1) download the app, (2) login to an Amazon account, (3) locate
a product, (4) have/create payment methods, billing address, shipping
addresses etc, (5) and attempt to place an order. While this is
certainly possible, I don't recall any Apple rep being so involved,
especially where a third party app is concerned. I suppose it is
possible that you gave the rep your login credentials but, again, I
cannot imagine an Apple rep accepting them if for no other than security
concerns for your privacy.

Having said all this, the problem still remains that you cannot complete
an Amazon order.

Have you changed the default display configuration on your device? This
is to say, it is possible, that such modifications, assuming they are
extreme enough, could corrupt the apps display aspect ratio and,
consequently, prevent VoiceOver from properly focusing on available
buttons.

I suggest that you explore all of the device's display settings and make
certain that everything is set to the default parameters--especially the
screen size and font size.

Also, if you have a plus size device, make certain that the Reach
ability feature is disabled.

One more thing, assuming that the display settings have not been
modified, the next troubleshooting step I would take would be to find a
sighted person, disable VoiceOver, and see if the sighted person can
move forward with the purchasing process.

Good Luck,

Mark

You might also want to check that VoiceOver isn't set to know punctuation in
the punctuation rotor setting. I always keep it on some, otherwise weird things
start happening with VoiceOver that I don't like, such as it not saying the
zero in the time.

You can also just tell iTunes that a group of selected files are audio books

but I'm sure if you ask on the list, you'll get answers. I think it might be

To be honest, and I don't doubt you for a minute, I find it
difficult to believe that Apple accessibility could/would confirm
such a bug with a third-party app.

This is to say, in order to confirm such a problem, the Apple
rep would have to (1) download the app, (2) login to an Amazon
account, (3) locate a product, (4) have/create payment methods,
billing address, shipping addresses etc, (5) and attempt to place
an order. While this is certainly possible, I don't recall any
Apple rep being so involved, especially where a third party app
is concerned. I suppose it is possible that you gave the rep
your login credentials but, again, I cannot imagine an Apple rep
accepting them if for no other than security concerns for your
privacy.

Having said all this, the problem still remains that you cannot
complete an Amazon order.

Have you changed the default display configuration on your
device? This is to say, it is possible, that such modifications,
assuming they are extreme enough, could corrupt the apps display
aspect ratio and, consequently, prevent VoiceOver from properly
focusing on available buttons.

I suggest that you explore all of the device's display settings
and make certain that everything is set to the default
parameters--especially the screen size and font size.

Also, if you have a plus size device, make certain that the
Reach ability feature is disabled.

One more thing, assuming that the display settings have not been
modified, the next troubleshooting step I would take would be to
find a sighted person, disable VoiceOver, and see if the sighted
person can move forward with the purchasing process.

The problem is not that it won't work, but that Voice Over says cancel button,
after the chimes go off and google is waiting for the question. When voice over
says cancel button, it confuses google. I just turn speech off with the
three-finger double tap, before saying hey google, and things are fine.

VDR reads according to the punctuation in the document.
Is this a book, or a document you have uploaded?
If a document you have uploaded, you may want to check that it has good

I've found the Google app to be inconsistent in starting with the okay Google
command. I didn't know that this inconsistency was due to VoiceOver since it
usually works for me after my first successful search. I do my first search by
placing focus in the box where you normally type your search terms, swiping
right once and moving to the voice search control, and then double tapping.
Google will sound a sort of chime indicating it's waiting for your voice
command and it works fine. It is an extra step instead of saying okay Google
but it is much easier than turning VoiceOver off. The okay Google usually works
for me after I've done my first search with the voice search control.

Good luck.

Jerry,

I'd agree with Sieghard that if you have mp3 audiobooks you're wanting to
get on your iPhone, Voice Dream Reader and Dropbox are the easiest
solution.
You can copy the zipped mp3 books into an appropriate Dropbox folder on
your

computer and easily add them to Voice Dream using the app.

I don't know if you're a US citizen but if you are, the BARD Mobile app is
excellent for getting books from the NLS BARD service provided you are a
citizen and have established a BARD account.

Re: Looking for any way to put audio books on iPhone 6

2016-08-06 Thread Richard Turner
Jerry,
Remember that VDR will use the name of the Zip file as the name of the book and
each mp3 file in the zip file will be the chapter names. So, you need to be
sure the mp3 file names will be in sequence. I always use leading zeros to make
sure they remain in order. like, 01, 02 etc.
Or, if there are over 100 files, then 001, 002, etc.
Or, make sure they are alphabetical.
Enjoy,
Richard

Jerry,

I'd agree with Sieghard that if you have mp3 audiobooks you're wanting to get
on your iPhone, Voice Dream Reader and Dropbox are the easiest solution. You
can copy the zipped mp3 books into an appropriate Dropbox folder on your
computer and easily add them to Voice Dream using the app.

I don't know if you're a US citizen but if you are, the BARD Mobile app is
excellent for getting books from the NLS BARD service provided you are a
citizen and have established a BARD account.

Re: How in the world does anyone use Ok Google on an iPhone

2016-08-06 Thread Alan Lemly
I've found the Google app to be inconsistent in starting with the okay Google
command. I didn't know that this inconsistency was due to VoiceOver since it
usually works for me after my first successful search. I do my first search by
placing focus in the box where you normally type your search terms, swiping
right once and moving to the voice search control, and then double tapping.
Google will sound a sort of chime indicating it's waiting for your voice
command and it works fine. It is an extra step instead of saying okay Google
but it is much easier than turning VoiceOver off. The okay Google usually works
for me after I've done my first search with the voice search control.

Good luck.

Try saying okay google instead of hey google.

Re: amazon app, major bug

2016-08-06 Thread Jed Barton
Well, i had not 1 but 2 reps try it. Both of them actually use it all
the time. I got lucky, they both tried it with voiceover and the same
results.

I placed an order on the pc with no problem. It's certainly an app issue.

On 8/6/2016 3:09 AM, M. Taylor wrote:

Hello Jed,

You know, I've been following this thread and a couple of things come to mind:

Have you attempted to place an order from a desktop web browser, lately? I'm
starting to wonder if there is something amiss with your actual Amazon account.

To be honest, and I don't doubt you for a minute, I find it difficult to
believe that Apple accessibility could/would confirm such a bug with a
third-party app.

This is to say, in order to confirm such a problem, the Apple rep would have to
(1) download the app, (2) login to an Amazon account, (3) locate a product, (4)
have/create payment methods, billing address, shipping addresses etc, (5) and
attempt to place an order. While this is certainly possible, I don't recall
any Apple rep being so involved, especially where a third party app is
concerned. I suppose it is possible that you gave the rep your login
credentials but, again, I cannot imagine an Apple rep accepting them if for no
other than security concerns for your privacy.

Having said all this, the problem still remains that you cannot complete an
Amazon order.

Have you changed the default display configuration on your device? This is to
say, it is possible, that such modifications, assuming they are extreme enough,
could corrupt the apps display aspect ratio and, consequently, prevent
VoiceOver from properly focusing on available buttons.

I suggest that you explore all of the device's display settings and make
certain that everything is set to the default parameters--especially the screen
size and font size.

Also, if you have a plus size device, make certain that the Reach ability
feature is disabled.

One more thing, assuming that the display settings have not been modified, the
next troubleshooting step I would take would be to find a sighted person,
disable VoiceOver, and see if the sighted person can move forward with the
purchasing process.

Good Luck,

Mark

Even after updating my IOS, deleting the app and re-installing it, you can no

  Hi Jonathan,

I looked at your blog post about the scales.

I have been very happy with my FitBit Aria scale for years. I was able to
set it up myself via the FitBit app, which is quite accessible.

I have the app because I have been using their step counters also for years
because my Apple watch doesn’t count steps at all when holding onto the
treadmill rail. I walk and run a lot and want credit for those steps as well.

If you don’t use a treadmill at all, this probably won’t make a difference,
but it is amazing to look at the health app and see how few steps I get credit
for.

I step on the scale and count to five. That’s all the time it takes to get
my weight and body fat calculated.

This is just some things one might want to consider when choosing which scale
and which app to use.

I’m glad to know how the WiThing works. I hope it becomes more accessible in
the near future.

  Take care,
  Lois

RE: Looking for any way to put audio books on iPhone 6

2016-08-06 Thread Donald Moore
The one thing that does wonders with this is to access a free program such as
mp3to iPad audiobook converter. Then the iPhone knows it's a book and it'll go
in the right place.

Hello Jerry,

You have received some excellent tips in this thread.

Like you, I have many, many MP3 files that I enjoy reading as audio books.

I am a big fan of iTunes via Jaws for Windows.

As I am particularly resistant to third-party solutions unless absolutely
necessary, I use the podcast feature of iTunes for all of my manually
created/non-purchased MP3 audio books.

If you do not want to use iTunes in order to manage your files, then, of
course, third-party solutions are the only way to go. However, I would argue
that there is a lot of hidden magic in iTunes via the Jaws Touch Cursor.

One reason why I prefer to use iTunes is because doing so allows me to sync my
audio files between my PC, my iPhone and my iPod Nanno.

As you may or may not know, third-party apps cannot be installed on the Nanno.

Just wanted to throw that out there, for you to consider.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my inquiry! I thought I had tried the
MP3 zipped file into VDR, but will try it again. I do use Bard on the phone,
and do buy audible books but have collected many hundreds of mp3 formatted
books and want to re-read some of them.

Thank you all so much!! I will let you know how it goes with VDR…

RE: amazon app, major bug

2016-08-06 Thread M. Taylor

Good Luck,

Mark

Hey guys,
Well, this is most certainly a problem, i confirmed it through apple
accessibility.
Even after updating my IOS, deleting the app and re-installing it, you can no
longer get past the address. Basicly, the button that says select this address
button, you an no longer double tap on it, it does nothing.

Well, a couple of ideas. If you're really good at remembering locations of
buttons, you could turn voiceover off and tap the button. Or, what I would
probably do, go to Safari and Amazon and place the order from there.
That's generally what I do anyway, as I find the Amazon app is nothing
great. The Safari experience on the phone with the Amazon site is really
 pretty good in my opinion.
