Re: Outlook App issue, I think

2016-11-10 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

Well I guess I should have tried this, before writing to the list. But I
honestly didn't think this would make a difference.

I restarted my phone, and the Outlook app works just as it should. I
knew my password was correct. And, because I had tried more than once to
fix the issue, I knew it wasn't me.

At least now if this same thing happens, I know what to do.

Thank you,

Terri

2016-11-10 Thread Carla Savage
Hi,
The only way I know how to do this is to save the photo to your camera role and
then use KNFB Reader to scan the image and read it. A bit of a faff but it does
work.
Hope this helps,

Re: Outlook App issue, I think

2016-11-10 Thread Richard Turner
I didn't read all of your message, but if you didn't say this, I want to make
sure everyone knows that message supposedly from Microsoft is a phishing scam.
If you followed their directions, you need to go and change your Outlook
password before you have allowed someone to access your account.
That message is not from Microsoft. Look at the address:
outl...@email2.office.com
and that is not a real Microsoft address.

Outlook.com after upgrade
The message that follows starts like this (I did not list all of the message,
if you haven't received it yet you don't have to worry about it anyways):
Earlier this year we introduced the new Outlook.com, which
helps you focus on what matters, collaborate effortlessly, and get more done.
As part of the Outlook.com upgrade, we have moved your
account to a more secure and reliable infrastructure.
Now that your Outlook.com account has been upgraded, you'll
need to re-connect Outlook 2016 or Outlook 2013 to your
Outlook.com account to ensure the best experience.
If you do not re-connect to your upgraded Outlook.com
account, you may experience email or calendar sync issues, unintended
recipients getting added when replying to emails, or other issues listed here.

Now, this only talks about reconnecting to Outlook.com from
Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2016, it does not mention the Outlook app for iPhone or
Android. However, to be on the safe side, I am also going to delete my Outlook
account on my iPhone and set it up again just to be sure it all works
correctly. For the PC they mention two methods, one of them also is to delete
the account and set it up again, to me this sounds easier than the other method
and I'll do that.

Subject: Outlook App issue, I think

Hello everyone,

I have an issue. I think it is with the Outlook app, but I can't be sure.
Although, I wouldn't know where else the problem could be.

About an hour ago, I started having problems receiving mail on my phone,
or at least, reviewing it. I know it's still coming in.

But every time I go to the Outlook app, I am asked to sign in, because
there has been a problem with my account. So I try to do this, and I am
told the password is incorrect. But I know without a doubt that it's not.

Mail works fine on my computer, and I even went to the website and
signed in successfully.

I tried closing the app, and then getting back in to it. But of course
that didn't work. I will say though that when I did this, for a brief
second I saw my inbox.

I haven't tried shutting off the phone or rebooting it, because I really
wasn't sure that would help.

Any help or thoughts on this situation would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Works really well. Just go to settings in your account and turn on the

RE: Outlook App issue, I think

2016-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Terri,

If you were able to sign in online then maybe you somehow type the password
incorrectly on your iPhone?
Also, did you get an email with the following subject:
Action Required: Re-connect Outlook 2016/2013 to Outlook.com after upgrade
The message that follows starts like this (I did not list all of the message,
if you haven't received it yet you don't have to worry about it anyways):
Earlier this year we introduced the new Outlook.com, which helps you focus on
what matters, collaborate effortlessly, and get more done.
As part of the Outlook.com upgrade, we have moved your account to a more secure
and reliable infrastructure.
Now that your Outlook.com account has been upgraded, you’ll need to re-connect
Outlook 2016 or Outlook 2013 to your Outlook.com account to ensure the best
experience.
If you do not re-connect to your upgraded Outlook.com account, you may
experience email or calendar sync issues, unintended recipients getting added
when replying to emails, or other issues listed here.

Now, this only talks about reconnecting to Outlook.com from Outlook 2013 or
Outlook 2016, it does not mention the Outlook app for iPhone or Android.
However, to be on the safe side, I am also going to delete my Outlook account
on my iPhone and set it up again just to be sure it all works correctly. For
the PC they mention two methods, one of them also is to delete the account and
set it up again, to me this sounds easier than the other method and I'll do
that.

Regards,
Sieghard

Thank you,

Terri

a pause button in the pandora app?

2016-11-10 Thread Larry Lumpkin
Hi. I've been looking for a pause control in the Pandora app from my
Bluetooth keyboard. The only way I've found to pause is by using the pause
button on the remote. Any ideas?

Using braille sense as a braille display with more than 1 IDevice

2016-11-10 Thread Kerri Stovall
Hey listers, gotta quick question. It's my understanding, and correct me if
not, that you can easily switch between IPAD, IPHONE, and other iDevices, using
your braille sense as a display. I have been successful at using my braille
sense with both iPad and iPhone, but I have been having the hardest time
switching between the two. I don't mean at the same time, but sometimes I like
using my iPad, and sometimes for other situations I'll use it for my phone. So,
after using it with my iPad today, I decided to switch devices and use my
phone, so when I ended the terminal session on my notetaker, and started a new
session and went to connect it using my phone, it kept giving me the error,
connection unsuccessful, and the whole, make sure it's turned on and in range,
bit. I tried rebooting both phone and sense notetaker, and the only way I
finally got my phone connected again, was by actually going in and pairing it
with my braille sense in the bluetooth manager, which I could have sworn the
help file said you don't have to do, that it should just find it. So, what am I
missing?

Betternet VPN

2016-11-10 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi guys. So tonight I was being adventurous and I downloaded an app called
Betternet which is a VPN service. I wanted to explore the American iHeartRadio
app because I heard that you can do more things with it that it has to offer
that the Canadian app doesn't have such as making your own radio station and so
on. So I'm now connected to a US VPN server but I have a few questions. Does
anyone know how much cell data will be used if I choose to use it out and
about? If it uses a lot, where can I change which apps use data? I went into
cellular data in settings and I didn't see it in the list of apps that use cell
data. Any help would be appreciated. I'm writing to both lists because I don't
know if one or the other knows too much about VPN's. Thanks.

Hi Group,
I just want to tell everyone about the Pedometer++ app. This is a great little
app that keep track of how far you walk. It is very accessible with VO. It is
also free. So if you are looking for a simple app to use to keep tracked of
how many steps you walk and how many miles. This app also keep track of every
day and goes back quite a ways. So you can always go back and see what you did
on that day. This is a great app to use. They also have great technical support.

RE: which phones have offline dictation

2016-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can't enable it, the point is that on the phone models where it works it
will work when you are off-line.
Try and put your phone in Airplane mode, then open Spotlight search or start a
new note and try to dictate something. If it works then your phone supports
off-line dictation since obviously you can dictate while you are off-line.

RE: Auto switching of calls from earpiece to speakerphone

2016-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Rajmund,

I am aware of the ability to turn this off in iOS 10, but the point is that I
like the feature and I just want them to fix it so it works as it should.
Turning it off is OK as far as it goes, but if I’m somewhere with a bit of
noise and I do want the call on speakerphone it is difficult to unlock the
phone, hide the keypad and then find and manually engage the speakerphone
button. You can hear Voiceover just fine when it comes through the earpiece
from 8 or 10 inches away when it’s quiet, but not so well when it is noisy.

Hi List,

I am wondering if others experience this annoying issue where when you dial a
call and it starts ringing in the earpiece you then place your phone against
your ear and as soon as the other party answers the call decides to switch to
speakerphone. You have to take the phone away from the ear, wait a second or
two and then put it back up to your face before it usually switches back to the
earpiece. Of course if you are in a public place this can be annoying since
usually the other party can't hear you right away and keeps asking what's going
on.
In my opinion this is not a hardware issue since this happened on my 6S Plus
which was just replaced under warranty and the new phone has the exact same
issue. This replacement phone was also set up as a new phone and was not
restored from a backup.
I seem to remember that this started happening when I started to use Ios 10 and
so far it continues to happen almost 100% of the time, from time to time I make
a call and it does not happen. At the same time if I start a call and then put
the phone to my face and take it away or put my hand over the top of the phone
and then take it away to trigger the audio to go to speakerphone, the call
usually reverts to the earpiece when somebody answers so the issues seems to go
both ways.

Best regards,
Sieghard

RE: Auto switching of calls from earpiece to speakerphone

2016-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Daniel,

It would be great if you also were to send a message regarding this to Apple
Accessibility. I did receive a reply in which they asked if I had restored my
new/replacement iPhone from a backup and they recommended I restore it again
and set it up as a new phone. I just replied to them and told them that in fact
I set it up as a new phone and I did it right there at the Apple store since I
had also brought my laptop. I wanted to sync my apps across and also some
ringtones since this would be faster than having to redownload each app
separately and we all know that this is currently completely inaccessible with
iTunes and Jaws. So I brought my laptop to the Apple Store and then asked one
of their staff to go through my list of apps, I told him which ones I wanted,
he checked them all of and then did the sync.

I had also sent a separate message about the 'incoming call" announcement and
the reply I received was that this issue was currently being looked into by the
people in charge and I assume a fix for this will be forthcoming soon.

Lastly, anybody who wants to write to Apple accessibility regarding the
automatic switching, below is the subject line I used, maybe that will help
them to group these together:

Incorrect/unreliable automatic switching to speakerphone when placing a call

I wanted to mention too after I put the phone to my ear if you do it quick
enough you hear incoming call, kind of strange since it is an out going call.

Sieghard

2016-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Richard,

The "Audio" option and the ability to turn off automatic switching to
speakerphone is a feature which just now became available with iOS 10. If you
upgrade you can set it to not switch automatically.

OT The braille note and the index Everest D v4

2016-11-10 Thread becky knaub
Hi all,
Please email me off list if you have an answer to the following questions. I
have a client who is a braille note apex user and we are trying to get her
Everest braille embosser to work with her braille note. Unfortunately it will
work some of the time and then start brailling a bunch of gibberish. If you
know if the braille note actually works well with The Everest and the settings
that I should need to check please let me know. If you could tell me why does
braille correctly and then go to writing in gibberish that would be even more
helpful. Thanks for your help. Please email me at becnc...@gmail.com. if you
can help answer these questions. I wasn't sure where else to turn.

Subject: issues with voice dream reader?

HI.

i’m having some issues with voice dream reader.

I am running a 6 s with the latest iOS update.

Sometimes when I launch voice dream reader, I get a message saying that
iCloud isn’t available. Not sure if this is a connection issue. Nothing
will play after dismissing the message, until I reboot my phone.

The more annoying problem though, is this.
I have an audio book which has 4 parts to it. Each part is about 4 hours
long. I’m fine if I play the file straight through, but about an hour
before a part of the book is about to end, , If I try to rewind or fast
forward I end up at odd places in the book. It’s almost like at certain
parts of the file, the rewind and fast forward act like I’m skipping by an
hour or something. If I skip forward too far, I end up at the next part of
the book. It also doesn’t tend to keep my place when it’s at , the
particular spot where i’m having problems. I really love this app, but have
had to resort to using downcast, as if the book is paused at problem spots,
it jumps back or forward to the next part, and it’s impossible to rewind or
forward to find where I was up to. I was just wondering if anyone else has
experienced these issues with audio books, before I write to the developer.

thanks
Maria

Re: the iTunes 10.1.1 update

2016-11-10 Thread gs
I do not have any scientific evidence to support this, but I can say that I was
on an iPhone 7 with battery charged to 76% today and engaged in a phone call
for more than one hour and also reviewed twitter, email, Lire, and several
other tasks before I checked the battery. I was somewhat surprised when it was
only down to 64%. I think this differs from the discharge from before but, as I
said, it's not very scientific. I was connected to a wifi network for the
duration of activities. I feel that the battery usage has improved with the
latest release but cannot confirm it with anything definitive. And it even may
be that it has not improved at all. Nevertheless, since it was my perception, I
thought I would respond.

to the battery statistics. It was draining faster prior to the update. So you
might want to grab this update. I fully charged the battery as it was connected

Re: question on Voice Dream; was issues with voice dream reader?

2016-11-10 Thread Richard Turner

Hi Chip,
My favorite way is through DropBox.
Now, if you are using iCloud Drive and iCloud Sync with Voice Dream Reader, be
aware that large audio files take a very long time to sync, so I would not keep
them long in your library.
Also, if you have a book in mp3 format that has lots of chapters that are
separate files, you want to first make sure they are labeled so they will play
in order, then zip them into a zip file and name the zip file with the name of
the book.
Then, put that zip file on Dropbox, for example, and then add it to Voice Dream
from within Voice Dream.
Then, Voice Dream will treat it as a book with each file being a chapter.
It is quite slick.
HTH,
Richard

Yes, just sent another message to accessibil...@apple.com about that again
today, it’s been mentioned on the list before and I can only hope that
everybody takes the minute or two it takes to shoot off a message to Apple
about it since that one definitely seems to be a freely available bug on all
devices.

I wanted to mention too after I put the phone to my ear if you do it quick
enough you hear incoming call, kind of strange since it is an out going call.

Subject: Auto switching of calls from earpiece to speakerphone

Sieghard

RE: which phones have offline dictation

2016-11-10 Thread Chip Orange
Hi Anna,

I think you're correct, however, it did change how it functioned (between IOS 9
and 10 I believe). In IOS 9 it had to be specifically enabled before it would
work, but under 10 it was set to work by default.

Hth,

Hello,

I'm working on the next edition of getting started with the iPhone, and I could
use a bit of help. I believe I'm right that the 6s, 6s Plus, SE, and the 7
phones all have the following features that other phones don't: Raise to Wake,
Hey Siri works when the phone is on battery, and offline dictation. Is that
right?

Thanks a lot,
Anna

Subject: issues with voice dream reader?

HI.

i’m having some issues with voice dream reader.

I am running a 6 s with the latest iOS update.

Sometimes when I launch voice dream reader, I get a message saying that iCloud
isn’t available. Not sure if this is a connection issue. Nothing will play
after dismissing the message, until I reboot my phone.

The more annoying problem though, is this.
I have an audio book which has 4 parts to it. Each part is about 4 hours
long. I’m fine if I play the file straight through, but about an hour before a
part of the book is about to end, , If I try to rewind or fast forward I end
up at odd places in the book. It’s almost like at certain parts of the file,
the rewind and fast forward act like I’m skipping by an hour or something. If
I skip forward too far, I end up at the next part of the book. It also doesn’t
tend to keep my place when it’s at , the particular spot where i’m having
problems. I really love this app, but have had to resort to using downcast, as
if the book is paused at problem spots, it jumps back or forward to the next
part, and it’s impossible to rewind or forward to find where I was up to. I
was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these issues with audio
books, before I write to the developer.

thanks
Maria

Button labels in contacts

2016-11-10 Thread Richard Turner
I just had an odd experience with labels in contacts for phone numbers.
On my work iPhone 6S, I have my contact with my Direct line, as Work, our fax
number as "work fax" my direct line with the codes to check voice mail when I'm
away from the office as "mobile", then my work cell, which was labeled "home",
so after the discussion on this list about whether iPhone was a label still I
thought I'd tell you all what I did and the result.
I tried to change my work cell to iPhone. I opened edit, and double tapped on
the label, and iPhone was there in the choices.
I selected it.
Then double tapped on done.
When I opened it again, the one that should have said iPhone, now said home.
So, I tried adding a custom label, but that didn't stick either.
I have no idea what is going on with iOS 10, but this label inconsistency, but
it is pretty stupid.
JMO,
Richard

che chime app

2016-11-10 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
To the person who asked about an app that will vibrate to show the time when
the mute switch is engaged, there is an app called "chime". You can set it
to alert every 15, 30 or 60 minutes. You can have it alert from a specific
time to an ending time and can have a male voice, different sounds or a
female voice. When the mute switch is engaged the phone will still vibrate
. There are several chime apps which are free, but this is the one I use.
HTH.

God bless!

Re: Belkin Lightening Audio + Charge Rockstar Adapter

2016-11-10 Thread Alan Lemly
I've not heard that this adapter only works when hooked up to a wall outlet nor
has that been my experience. Mine works just fine at charging my iPhone when
connected to my computer. My only issue is that Itunes doesn't recognize my
iPhone sometimes when it's connected through the adapter.

My wife and I both have IPhones, and separate accounts,

Could there be some type of setting causing this behavior?

the iTunes 10.1.1 update

2016-11-10 Thread Gordon
I think I know one of the things that might have been addressed in this
update. Battery drainage. So I updated last night and now have 97
percent on my battery. It's been in use for 36 minutes and on standby
for 12 hours according to the battery statistics. It was draining faster
prior to the update. So you might want to grab this update. I fully
charged the battery as it was connected to my computer getting and
installing the update.

I wanted to mention too after I put the phone to my ear if you do it quick
enough you hear incoming call, kind of strange since it is an out going call.

Subject: Auto switching of calls from earpiece to speakerphone

Sieghard

was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these issues with audio
books, before I write to the developer.

thanks
Maria

Re: Belkin Lightening Audio + Charge Rockstar Adapter

2016-11-10 Thread Daniel Miller
Unfortunately, I don't think you can plug it into a computer I'll that's
connected through the adapter. The adapter is only meant for charging the
iPhone through the wall outlet, and listening to lightning EarPods.

issues with voice dream reader?

2016-11-10 Thread Maria Chapman
HI.

i’m having some issues with voice dream reader.

was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these issues with audio
books, before I write to the developer.

thanks

Yes, just sent another message to accessibil...@apple.com
about that again today, it’s been
mentioned on the list before and I can only hope that everybody takes
the minute or two it takes to shoot off a message to Apple about it
since that one definitely seems to be a freely available bug on all
devices.

I wanted to mention too after I put the phone to my ear if you do it
quick enough you hear incoming call, kind of strange since it is an
out going call.

Hi List,

I am wondering if others experience this annoying issue where when you
dial a call and it starts ringing in the earpiece you then place your
phone against your ear and as soon as the other party answers the call
decides to switch to speakerphone. You have to take the phone away
from the ear, wait a second or two and then put it back up to your
face before it usually switches back to the earpiece. Of course if you
are in a public place this can be annoying since usually the other
party can't hear you right away and keeps asking what's going on.

In my opinion this is not a hardware issue since this happened on my
6S Plus which was just replaced under warranty and the new phone has
the exact same issue. This replacement phone was also set up as a new
phone and was not restored from a backup.

I seem to remember that this started happening when I started to use
Ios 10 and so far it continues to happen almost 100% of the time, from
time to time I make a call and it does not happen. At the same time if
I start a call and then put the phone to my face and take it away or
put my hand over the top of the phone and then take it away to trigger
the audio to go to speakerphone, the call usually reverts to the
earpiece when somebody answers so the issues seems to go both ways.

Best regards,

Sieghard
