Hello Kliphton, and list,

Well, I can see the different features, such as on now, watch-list, and
so on.

However, none of my networks are offered yet. So I don't seem to get
that option, or the channel numbers list.

But this is still great information to have.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Side App Switcher

Thank you for that. I just tested it on my iPod Touch 6, and it works very
nicely.
I still didn't hear anything about side app switcher, but the four finger flick
left or right does work to switch between apps.

Helpful tip for direct TV now users

2017-01-14 Thread Kliphton Miller
Well, was wondering why the movies, shows, network, and other features that are
on the phone weren’t showing on the appleTV4. So, while watching a show, turn
voiceover off, swipe up once, turn voiceover back on, and you will have the
list of on demand content for movies, shows, networks. Once you get to the
category you want to view, just swipe down, not click the track pad, again, in
the network section it will do like it did on sling TV, and say 2 of 15, 3 of
15, and so on. It’s a pretty short list so I am sure you can remember what
your favorites will be. As for the shows and movies, those are all read just
fine. HTH

RE: Best email apps

2017-01-14 Thread Thomas Domville
Hello Marie,

Outside of the stocked Apple Mail app. I have been using the Microsoft Outlook
for the iOS to be really fantastic. There is a lot of features packed in to
this wonderful gem. Is now my current and go to suggestion for a good Mail app.
Although, I would love to find another Mail app that does more pwerful rules
that would allow me to move incoming mail in to different categories and
folders. Outlook has something called the Focus and Others which is a scaled
down version what I'm seeking for but for now. I really love this app.

For those without 3d touch, a single finger double tap and hold on a song will
bring up a pop up menu with many choices including adding the song to a
playlist.

I mean that I am having difficulty adding a song from, say, an apple

I have their suggested playlist up, and in swiping right through the
titles of the song, I see one I'd like to add to one of my own
existing playlists, I can't in fact just double tap it, as this will
only make the song start to play. If I do want to add it to an
existing playlist, I have to double tap the song title, which will
make it start playing, then bring up the mini player, find the more
button, and then choose add to playlist. So this means that I am not
actually able to spontaneously add songs to an existing playlist
without actually listening to them. If I recall correctly, this was
not the case in ios9. And if I do flick up and down on a song title,
there is no "more" option--just activate and add to library. am I
making sense? are other people having this difficulty too?

 Thanks in advance!

RE: Amazon Music App

2017-01-14 Thread Larry Lumpkin
I have both apple music and a large itunes library and amazon music. I did a
bit of research some time back and, though I haven’t done this, understand that
this is how it is supposed to work.

You get a little cloud space with amazon prime but can subscribe to quite a
number of songs though I don’t remember how many. You then launch the amazon
music program on your computer and choose somehow to upload your library to the
cloud. Licensing restrictions may govern how and what songs get uploaded but I
don’t know much about that.

RE: Question about reading an audiobook in Dropbox

2017-01-14 Thread Richard Turner
That is correct. Voice Dream downloads them so you don’t have to deal with
streaming, which saves data if you are not on WiFi.
And, simply provides better performance in my view.

I also find that reading large mp3 files works better for me in Voice Dream
because it seems to download them to the device for reading. It does take a bit
of time for the download but I prefer reading things located on the device as
opposed to streaming them which seems to be what I get when reading with
Dropbox.

In Dropbox, I can go into a completely different folder and listen to a podcast
or another book and then back into the book I was first in and it will pick up
where I left off. You can also flick up and down in the area measuring the time
and go to different locations in the file. The only thing I can't do which I
wish I could is place a bookmark in an area that I might want to go back to for
information.

In that case, I just look at the time location and make a note of it and then I
know exactly where to move to if I need to find it. A little inconvenient, but
not too bad.

Hey guys,

Is there any way you can turn up the volume on zello without making
voiceover go louder? Would love it if that can be done. I know you can
adjust volumes for each individual user, but wanted to know if you could
do it globally.

Use Slide Over
Slide Over lets you interact with a second app without leaving the app

respond to emails, or create a note. Just swipe to the left from the
middle-right edge of the screen to see your previously used app.

To switch the side app that you’re using, swipe down from the top-right
side of the screen. You’ll see a list of your apps. Tap one to use it.
When you’re done, slide from left to right on the app to return to the
previous app.

You can use Slide Over with iPad Pro, iPad Air and later, and iPad mini

Re: Side App Switcher

2017-01-14 Thread Richard Turner

I have no idea. I have never heard this. I was just a little curious so I did a
search.
For those who are dealing with this, someone may want to ask Apple. Or, simply
go on wondering what it is.

RE: IPad Mini 4

2017-01-14 Thread Merv Keck
I chose a Mini 4 on the AT Next plan because I already had two iPhones on
the plan. So adding the 128 GB Mini 4 was the more economical option for me as
far as tablets were concerned. It was also the perfect size and was fast enough
to do everything I needed it to do. In two years from September 2016 I will
trade it in for something more up to date also on the Next plan so my
investment is minimal.

Although it sounds great on its own, I tend to pair it with a Bluetooth
keyboard and speaker. And it is extremely convenient.

Hmmm, my iPad Mini 4 has stereo speakers at the bottom, on either side of the
charging port.

I went for the portability of the Mini, and for the apps I’ve tried so far,
it’s been working great.

Having come out in September 2015, I would bet it will be supported for several
years yet.

As to this whole old products thing, I know someone who is still using an iPad
Mini 2. She uses the BARD Mobile app, listens to described movies on Netflix,
reads her money, runs the KNFB Reader on it, gets on Facebook, and probably
more I don’t know about, all with no problems. People should be wary of feeling
that they need the newest and fastest because it ain’t necessarily so.

It is a lot faster and it has stereo speakers which is nice when holding onto
it. I don't think it is better when thinking about chip speed though. It just
seems a little snappier. Just my opinion though.

Sonos Tube, Anyone?

2017-01-14 Thread Christine Grassman
Hello all:
This past holiday season, our family purchased three Sonos players. We are all
quite pleased with them, except that my son loves to listen to videos on
YouTube, and would like to hear them on his Sonos speaker. There is an app
called Sonos Tube which purports to play YouTube videos on Sonos. Not all
buttons are labeled, but I managed to locate one of his favorite channels using
the SEarch feature. I cannot get Sonos to play them, however. WE have Play 1
speakers. Help is sincerely appreciated.
Christine
P.S. Sonos Connect and a Bluetooth receiver are ridicullusly expensive options
for the simple task of listening to YouTube videos, so we would like to avoid
that route.

Re: IPad Mini 4

2017-01-14 Thread Evan Reese

Hi Paula,
That's great. I'm glad you're still getting some use out of it.
Anyone thinking about an iPad now has a bit of a dilemma though.
My feeling on that is that if you really want a device, you should just get
it. There's always going to be something new and faster with more features
coming out not too long after you get whatever you get anyway, so if you
wait around, you'll always feel that you got an obsolete machine no matter
when you buy it because, technically, it is obsolete almost as soon as it
gets to the public. So just get it when you want it.
The devices we have now are so marvelous anyhow that even the obsolete ones
are pretty impressive when you think about it.

HDMI port to plug the device into. You also have to look at the screen for the

I had one of those eight dollar and tennis attached to my TV, I think that's
what they mean when they're talking about the source. Do you want the Apple

Re: IPad Mini 4

2017-01-14 Thread Evan Reese
Well, as I've already said, chip speed is only one factor when considering a
device, so there is no argument involving speed by itself.
If I were able to drive, I wouldn't let how fast a car can accelerate be my
only consideration when deciding on which one to buy.
Someone who is considering an iPad now should definitely think about how
large a device they want, especially if they're going to be carrying it
around very much, and also how substantial the likelihood is that new iPads
will be appearing later this year. If Russ is correct that the rumors say
nothing about a new iPad Mini, and if size is really important to her, then
she will have to decide on whether to get the Mini 4, even though it is
older technology. If size isn't important, then she might want to wait and
see if new iPads come out in the not too distant future.

Evan,

Perhaps I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here, but do you
genuinely think that when looking at cold hard numbers the 9.7 pro
isn't better than the mini 4?
The mini 4 uses the A8 SoC and has a 1.5GHZ CPU.
The 9.7 Pro uses the A9X SoC and has a 2.16GHZ CPU.
It's a very simplistic way of looking at it, but 2.16 is a bigger
number than 1.5, there for it is better.

Of course, some people may feel that the increase in performance isn't
enough to justify purchasing it and that the smaller size of the mini
makes up for its outdated technology. that's fine, but that's an
opinion, whereas it is a simple fact that the 9.7 pro contains a
better CPU than the mini 4.

Re: Setting Up Apple TV 4

2017-01-14 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

It's probably worth giving it a go without sighted help. The setup of
the actual Apple TV - E.G. turning on VO, connecting to WiFi etc is
fully accessible, but as has already been mentioned selecting the
source on your TV may not be.

2 possible workarounds:

If you know roughly how to do it but don't know which HDMI port is
which for example, try playing some music on a laptop, connecting it
to the TV and experiment with changing the sources around. When you
hear music disconnect the laptop and connect the Apple TV to the same
input.
Some devices can switch inputs for you. If you have one of these
devices you could turn it on, wait for the input to change and then
disconnect the HDMI cable and connect it to the Apple TV.

Good luck,
Ben.

I love my Apple TV. I had cited assistance, just because I couldn't see which
HDMI port to plug the device into. You also have to look at the screen for the
source. I want to know what are you using cable or something else I imagine.
I had one of those eight dollar and tennis attached to my TV, I think that's
what they mean when they're talking about the source. Do you want the Apple
device on HDMI or otherwise I'd imagine. Happy viewing is completely voiceover
friendly.

Re: IPad Mini 4

2017-01-14 Thread Evan Reese
Well, "better" is a subjective term. If you can get it at a cheaper price,
and you don't mind the size, then I suppose the Pro is better. But if you
want a smaller device, and the (rather small) speed difference isn't a
factor in what you're using it for, then the iPad Mini 4 is better. And, as
I just mentioned, someone I know is perfectly happy with her iPad Mini 2,
using all the apps she wants to use with no problems. So which is "better"?
Chip speed is just one factor. There are other factors in deciding whether
one device is "better" than another, including price and size.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hey all,

Since the last OS update every now and then I hear Side App switcher after
launching some apps, but have no clue what this means. Anyone else getting
this and know what it is referring to? Thanks,

It is a lot faster and it has stereo speakers which is nice when holding onto
it. I don't think it is better when thinking about chip speed though. It just
seems a little snappier. Just my opinion though.

RE: measuring wifi strength with free app

I’ve only used the numbers provided as an indication of relative signal quality
between one spot and another; or between one router position and another. I’ve
never tried to count on them as an indication of real “throughput” of my wifi.

Hi Chip,
What would be a good number? Say like what would be Best, Good, Medium, and

I have a reading about 122 right at the modem. If I go about 20 feet away with
nothing in the way it is about 45 and If I go to my wife chair in the living
room with some walls in the way it is about 55. Even right next to the modem
with the wifi on it, it very up and down about 40 points and that is holding
the iPhone about two feet away. What is a normal reading.

mode on/off does disappear after the first use, but you should have no
trouble identifying the button even so). It also has a numeric
constant display which gives you more presice info.

You can use it to map out weak areas in your house, or to allow you to
reposition your wifi router and see what effect this has on signal at
a given point.

This helped me determine that repositioning my router just slightly
within the closet where it resides makes a big difference in some of
the weaker areas of my house (where I was having difficulty placing an Echo).

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering, are my messages getting to the list?
In the last few days, I have sent maybe 3 messages. But I never get responses.

So I don't know if you all just don't have answers for me, or if I am having
some email issues.

So if any of you see this, could you please just respond to me privately, and
let me know.

Thank you,

Terri

In Dropbox, I can go into a completely different folder and listen to a podcast
or another book and then back into the book I was first in and it will pick up
where I left off. You can also flick up and down in the area measuring the time
and go to different locations in the file. The only thing I can't do which I
wish I could is place a bookmark in an area that I might want to go back to for
information.

In that case, I just look at the time location and make a note of it and then I
know exactly where to move to if I need to find it. A little inconvenient, but
not too bad.

Open iTunes preferences with control+comma and tab over to the checkbox for

RE: iTunes tones, mystery solved I think.

2017-01-14 Thread Richard Turner
Thanks Robert,

Well, as gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise."
Apple, in its infinite wisdom now turns on "Show Apple Music Features" even
though it has never been turned on before.
I unchecked that option, which is found in settings, general preferences just
after the library name.
I restored the sound for iTunes in my sound scheme, and no annoying sounds yet.
I'm updating some apps, so I should hear it only when the apps are done
updating.

Thanks again Robert for mentioning that.

I love Apple's work on accessibility for the devices, but I find turning
options on that have never been turned on by the user quite irritating.

Richard

Unable to Use BSI in Message Body Field with GMail Inbox

2017-01-14 Thread Dani Pagador
Hi, Everyone.
I can't get BSI to work in the message body of the Inbox app. The dot
6 registers, but nothing else I try to enter using BSI seems to take.
I'm using an iPodTouch with IOS9.3.

Has anyone else had this problem? Who should I contact?

Thanks,
Dani

Since the last OS update every now and then I hear Side App switcher after

RE: iTunes tones

2017-01-14 Thread Richard Turner
I don't have iCloud Music enabled, but I will check that to make absolutely
sure.
I've never used anything but CD I have imported myself.
I personally do not use any subscription music service and I back up to my
computer, not the cloud. But, who knows what settings may have been changed by
Apple.

Thanks,

Re: Adding a song to an existing playlist in apple music

2017-01-14 Thread Alan Lemly
Kimber,

The gesture to initiated 3D touch is a harder single finger press on the screen
and not a single finger double tap and hold. That latter gesture is available
whether your device supports 3D touch or not.

2017-01-14 Thread Russ Kiehne
I bought my ipad mini 4 when ios 10 was released. My first generation ipad
was not able to be updated. I got a 64gb for the same price as the 32gb.

Well, I got my iPad Mini 4 last April, and the price for the 128GB model was
slightly better than for the 64GB one, so I went for that. I didn't want to
carry around one of those big slabs, and while the reviews I read certainly
did indicate that there was a slight difference in speed between the Mini 4
and the Air, for me, it didn't sound worth the inconvenience of the bigger
unit.
Now, in 2017, if I were hearing that a new iPad might be in the offing, I
might consider waiting to see what develops. But that wasn't the case when I
got mine last April.

Hi,

That depends on your definition of cope; mine's most likely different
to yours so listing examples would be rather pointless.

The CPU is the same one that is in the iPhone 6, so the question you
have to ask yourself is if you'd buy a 6 in 2017 when there are 2
newer options available.
The cheaper price arguement doesn't work either: in the UK at least if
you buy a mini from Apple you'll be paying £400. I recently purchased
a brand new iPad air 2 for £330. Admitidly the bump in spec isn't
huge, but a: that represents nearly a 20% decreace in price and b: one
hopes that Apple will support it for slightly longer with iOS updates.
To me at least, in 2017, the only reason I can see for someone to buy
a mini is the smaller screen. To be fair this does make some
difference to me - I was using a handfull of mini's to deliver a
workshop the other day & they're much nicer to hold than the airs, but
that definitely doesn't mean it makes sense to spend more money on a
less capable device.

Cheers,
Ben.

Regardless of that, one does find that apps tend to get more and more

I agree with your mindset, as long as it will run it, why the heck not and

Okay, okay, that might be true theoretically, but the real question is,
what
apps do people want or need to use that a given device can't run because
it

is too slow or for some other reason is outdated. That is the only
practical
question. If there are significant numbers of apps, or even a few, that a

I am not sure if I asked that question here but I am looking for a keyboard

have too many options for ipad mini 4 for whatever reason, there are plenty for
1 2 and 3 and other ipad models.
I will appreciate any suggestions.

Question regarding, Braille screen input?

2017-01-14 Thread Dave

Hi,

I'm late to the party with this braille screen input, thing on iOS, but now
I've come across it, how do you get spelling suggestions? Does using BSI
totally get rid of predictions or corrections in texts for example?

If so, which settings, do i need to Change?

Many thanks,

Dave.

Re: Adding a song to an existing playlist in apple music

2017-01-14 Thread Kimberly
If you have 3D touch on your phone, you can double tap and hold to bring up a
menu that allows you to do several things like play the song or add it to an
existing playlist without starting play and going through all those acrobatics.

Re: Question about reading an audiobook in Dropbox

2017-01-14 Thread Vicki
In Dropbox, I can go into a completely different folder and listen to a podcast
or another book and then back into the book I was first in and it will pick up
where I left off. You can also flick up and down in the area measuring the time
and go to different locations in the file. The only thing I can't do which I
wish I could is place a bookmark in an area that I might want to go back to for
information.

In that case, I just look at the time location and make a note of it and then I
know exactly where to move to if I need to find it. A little inconvenient, but
not too bad.

Vicki

Just curious, doesn't it stay where you pause it unless you choose another
audio file to listen to. Also, I think you might be able open an mp3 in voice
dream reader.

Hello everyone,

I have some audiobooks in my Dropbox folder. This is how I prefer to put
stuff on my Ipad.

If the book is all in 1 file, then how can I book mark it, if I need to
stop reading it for a while?

Thank you,

Terri

I believe it might have something to do with iCloud music updating itself.
