RE: Netflix questions

2018-10-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Netflix doesn’t have a lot of the older movies, I haven’t looked, but I doubt
they have Jaws.
What device did you use to watch, iPhone or Apple TV? Whether you get audio
descriptions or not depends a bit on that.

Subject: Netflix questions

Well, during the past week I finally got the courage to use my Netflix account.

I successfully watched White Christmas and Pocahontas. I did this throught the
browse feature. I found Pocahontas under the audio description under the audio
description list, but couldn’t figure out how to play the audio described
version, or find it for the other movie if it had it. Is there some setting I
need to adjust in the app so that button shows up?

I am not sure if I am finding all the search results when I type the name of a
film or television show. How can I tell if I am seeing all the results or if
Netflix just doesn’t have what I’m looking for. Today I happened to be looking
for a couple major films, Jaws and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

I want to work on these issues before I work on other apps such as Hulu which I
also have.

RE: Overdrive versus Libby by Overdrive

2018-10-25 Thread R Van Lant
All I have done so far in the Libby app is to put a book on a wish list. I’ll
go find one to check out and see how the reading experience is. I had so much
trouble getting the Overdrive app going that this was a refreshing experience
with Libby, but maybe I’ll be disappointed further into it.

I will have to go check the date on the Libby app. I did try earlier this fall
or late last summer, like first part of September or end of August? And it
wasn’t accessible. It was just a bad experience. But then, I haven’t had the
best luck with OverDrive either. At this point, I can’t remember what the
issues were, but they were sufficient to just show of the whole business.

Subject: Overdrive versus Libby by Overdrive

Hello,
Thanks to comments from this group, I decided to give the Overdrive app another
try. When I went to the app store and typed in Overdrive, I got three apps.
The first is called Overdrive and is the one I had tried a couple years ago.
The second is called Libby by Overdrive and there was a third that seemed
geared for schools. I downloaded the first two. Logging into Libby was much
more straight forward and accessible than I found Overdrive in the past. I
simply had to provide my library card number and I was in; no special setup or
user account. I haven’t logged into Overdrive yet because, of course, I forgot
the password I had created way back when and need to reset it. My question
is, how are the two apps different in function? So far, the Libby app is
vastly more accessible than I had previously found Overdrive and I’ve have
already been able to peruse books. Anyone else tried Libby in comparison to
Overdrive? I could not tell from the app store summary how one is different,
although one reviewer did not like it as much.

Libby seems to allow checkout of audio and kindle books. I was asked during
set up if I wanted to read Kindle books on a Kindle or in the Libby app. I
chose the latter for now, wanting to try their e-reader, but I’m not sure if it
will be accessible.

If no one here knows, I’ll go see if my local librarians can tell me the
difference, but so far, the fact that I’m able to get to books on Libby is a
delight.

Hi Sieghard,

If you open the properties of that iTunes64 file, navigate to the, Details

version is . I have that setup.exe file and the version reads, Product
version 12.6.3.6.

I seem to remember that Mark said iTunes 12.6.3 was updated as well, but I
don't know if it's done automatically or if you are prompted to do so or if
you have to download it. When I just tried to download the 64 bit version
the installer file name was simply somethings like iTunesSetup64 so it
didn't indicate the version.
On the other hand if you just want to use iTunes to update the latest
official release of iTunes is OK, it has some issues if you want to use it
to play music since currently Jaws or other screenreaders don't read the
list of artists, genres etc., but the iPhone section is accessible as
always.

hi Sieghard
I totally agree about your recommanded iTunes version, this version has also
the advantage of having an appstore on board.
But are we sure making backups with this version is secure?
I ask this because I noticed myself that for example supposing you want to
update your software over iTunes, this can nolonger be done for ios12 on
this version.
One day after ios12 came out and I wanted to test whether to update my Phone
via iTunes or over the air, my iTunes 12.6.3 told me that my software was
uptodate which certainly was not the case.

Hello,

You made a great choice to demo the shortcuts app. It is amazing, and there are
so many things you can do with it.

The company iAccessibility has a podcast called the iACast where we demo
different apps and technologies. We did a demo of the shortcuts app, which can
help you with your demo. Here is a link to the show.

Also, check out IAccessibility.net for shortcuts and RoutineHub.co for a huge

trying to do.

Please let me know if this helps.

Hi all:

I’ve been reading different questions and responses regarding Braille displays
and as an instructor, I would like to clarify something. A Braille display can
have a feature, but that feature may not be supported by all screen readers. I
recall someone asking which Braille display can pan or scroll automatically.
My response is many can, but not with all screen readers. I myself have the
Focus 40 fifth generation. I can auto pan Braille while I’m using it with JAWS
and Windows, because the Focus has the feature and JAWS supports it. However,
I do not believe VoiceOver for iOS currently supports it so at this time, the
Focus can not auto pan while using the iPhone. If someone has a Braille
display that can auto pan or scroll while using VoiceOver, I would love to know
about it.

I often say, if you have the best sound card, but match box sounding speakers,
its still going to sound like a matchbox. If you have a terrible sound card,
and the best sounding speakers its still not going to sound good. In other
words, you need both to support each other.

RE: Visual Voice Mail

2018-10-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Bill,

As far as I know, iOS does not break visual voicemail.

Perhaps you should contact your carrier as they can confirm that you still have
access to it.

Re: Tapping solution app

Hi Richard,

There are quite a few free meditations, and the in-app purchases are
subscriptions of various lengths that would give you access to more.

Best,

a Braille display may have a feature, but the screen reader has to support it as well.

2018-10-25 Thread Zhi Huang
Hi all:

I've been reading different questions and responses regarding Braille
displays and as an instructor, I would like to clarify something. A Braille
display can have a feature, but that feature may not be supported by all
screen readers. I recall someone asking which Braille display can pan or
scroll automatically. My response is many can, but not with all screen
readers. I myself have the Focus 40 fifth generation. I can auto pan
Braille while I'm using it with JAWS and Windows, because the Focus has the
feature and JAWS supports it. However, I do not believe VoiceOver for iOS
currently supports it so at this time, the Focus can not auto pan while
using the iPhone. If someone has a Braille display that can auto pan or
scroll while using VoiceOver, I would love to know about it.

I often say, if you have the best sound card, but match box sounding
speakers, its still going to sound like a matchbox. If you have a terrible
sound card, and the best sounding speakers its still not going to sound
good. In other words, you need both to support each other.

Vorail

2018-10-25 Thread Bill Outman
I have joined the voice chat social platform Vorail. I am using the user
name Bill O at the moment.

I did manage to post an answer to a question from Mandy, one of the
moderators there today. I had lost the set of welcome messages that serve
as guides, as it's a bit overwhelming to digest all the options for actions.

So I could use some help getting going if anyone with experience with this
app wants to chime in.

RE: Netflix questions

2018-10-25 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Make sure that in Settings/General/Accessibility, way way down you see an
option entitled Audio description, which has to be enabled. IN this way,
Netflix if an Audiodescribed movie or series is available, it’ll automatically
play it for you. Good luck!

Asunto: Netflix questions

I want to work on these issues before I work on other apps such as Hulu which I
also have.

I am doing a demonstration to a job readiness group on Monday of different apps

to demonstrate that has a vocational use. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

anna,
Do you know what the "In App Purchases" consist of? Unlike most apps, there is
no information in the app description that I could find concerning the in-app
purchases.
I'm not interested in getting sucked-in with an app with surprise charges.
I've gone through the app store information pretty thoroughly.
Thanks,
Richard

2018-10-25 Thread Cook, Steve
Hi All,

I use the default mail app on my iPhone 7 using the current IOS. Is there a
way to read your EMail messages that come in table format in just plain text?
A great example are the messages I receive from GroupOn. Thanks in advance!

The short answer is no, you have to use iTunes.
The long answer is also no.
You would need to be sure that all your music from the 4s is in the iTunes

is selected in iTunes when you sync your new phone.

I just place in the Subject a letter or number, which always does the

How do you send an email from an iPhone without any text in the subject line or
the body of the message field??? The Send button is dimmed. I have sent several
emails with subscribe in the subject line & haven’t received an email stating I
have been added. And Yes I have checked the junk & trash folders.

How do you send an email from an iPhone without any text in the subject line or
the body of the message field??? The Send button is dimmed. I have sent several
emails with subscribe in the subject line & haven’t received an email stating I
have been added. And Yes I have checked the junk & trash folders.

Re: a music question

2018-10-25 Thread Kay Malmquist
Well, on that old 4S I think it can not be updated and is still on 9 point
something. The only things that show up there are apple sign in and to give
you an idea of how far back this goes, iTunes Match. The 6 S already has
iCloud turned on so the problem is with the 4 S. I'll monkey with it and
see what I can do.

In settings, there is a setting that asks you if you want to play
your iCloud library. Make sure you have that on. Now I can listen to all of
the music I have purchased and all my music I have uploaded to my computer.
Hope this helps.

Tapping solution app

2018-10-25 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

I thought those of you interested in meditation apps might want to know that an
app was released today that walks you through EFT tapping. This is a process of
focusing on issues such as stress or pain while tapping places on your body
that help you release the pain or stress. You can also focus on positive
emotions while tapping with the intent to increase their strength. There was an
Eyes-Free Fitness podcast about tapping a couple of years ago, and I would
imagine it's still available.

The app is called The Tapping Solution. It includes explanations of how to tap
and a fair amount of free content. Some items aren't labeled very clearly, and
the subscription screen is confusing, but otherwise, I found it quite
accessible. There is extra free content for teachers and veterans.

Enjoy,
Anna

I will have to go check the date on the Libby app. I did try earlier this fall
or late last summer, like first part of September or end of August? And it
wasn’t accessible. It was just a bad experience. But then, I haven’t had the
best luck with OverDrive either. At this point, I can’t remember what the
issues were, but they were sufficient to just show of the whole business.

RE: Bluetooth issue

2018-10-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Try a Reset Network Settings, this resets all radios including WiFi and
Bluetooth, but remember you will need your WiFi password and reconnect after
the phone reboots and If your iPhone is called "Pauls's iPhone" or something
like that you have to go to Settings > General > About and rename it, a Reset
Network Settings results in the phoe just being called "iPhone".
Reset Network Settings is under Settings > General > Reset (the very last item
in General Settings".

Subject: Bluetooth issue

I am using iPhone 8 with the latest software. The phone is paired with my Beats
X bluetooth earbuds. Recently, when I go to voice mail, the earbuds get
disconnected. I took this problem to Apple, and they said the Beats X were
defective, and since they are under warranty, they gave me a new pair. The
problem persists. Any one else experiencing this or anything similar? I also
have noticed other times when the Beats get suddenly disconnected. Not 100%
sure of this, but this might have begun recently when I updated my phone? Any
thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Paul

RE: Battery still an issue with iPhone SE and iOS 12

2018-10-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I seem to remember that Mark said iTunes 12.6.3 was updated as well, but I
don't know if it's done automatically or if you are prompted to do so or if you
have to download it. When I just tried to download the 64 bit version the
installer file name was simply somethings like iTunesSetup64 so it didn't
indicate the version.
On the other hand if you just want to use iTunes to update the latest official
release of iTunes is OK, it has some issues if you want to use it to play music
since currently Jaws or other screenreaders don't read the list of artists,
genres etc., but the iPhone section is accessible as always.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi, the only way I can think of is combining the files somehow and email the
OPML file via email. Then import them into Downcast.

RE: Battery still an issue with iPhone SE and iOS 12

2018-10-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Lisa,

Don't install the Windows app store version, I made that mistake once and while
it is supposed to be more or less the same I found it was not. In fact, I would
recommend you get this enterprise version of iTunes or whatever they call it,
it is I think version 12.6.3.
Also, you don't necessarily need iTunes to do a full restore. If you have an
iCloud backup you can go to Settings > General > Reset and do it from there.

Yes, I'm working up the courage to do this.    I despise iTunes
and don't even have it installed on this machine. I went looking for it
at Apple.com and they sent me to the Microsoft app store.  I'm still not
sure if that's the version I should install.

Also, if I do this, can I do it without sighted help?

I'm not as concerned with data or apps because I have the important
information backed up to iCloud and I can re-install apps once the
restore is done.

It's just the part about losing speech and not getting the phone back
that bothers me.

RE: Finding a Specific Ringtone

2018-10-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is also not that difficult to make your own ringtones, all you need is
whatever music you want to use and iTunes or you can use one of many apps which
exist for this purpose, however, in the end you still always will need iTunes
for transferring the ringtone to your phone.
I posted instructions for this a number of times, they were based on an earlier
iTunes version, but I’d be surprised if things had changed that much.
If you search the archives for “Creating ringtones from songs” you should find
the information.

Susie, you could search the internet, that's how I've found a number of
ringtones. possibly you could search on your phone in the app store and
possibly in safari, with a search for ringtones in itunes and another search
you could write ringtones for iphones. of course one could make their own
ringtones using a recording program on the computer.

So yesterday I went exploring in the iTunes store and found a whole bunch of
ringtones. I don’t always care for the electronic renderings of classical
pieces—I’d rather have a real orchestra, but that’s just me. My question is
this: suppose a person wanted, say, the Jeopardy! “think” music, or the theme
from the 60’s Batman TV series, or the first four notes from Dragnet, or the
University of Iowa football fight song … How would that person, naming no
names, go about finding such things?
