RE: How Is ApplePay Used?

2019-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, Apple Pay is meant to be a secure payment method hence you cannot set it up
on an iPhone which is not passcode protected. I don't mention Touch Id or Face
Id because for either one you still have to first set up a passcode, they are
just easier ways to unlock your phone without having to enter your passcode
each time, but you can't set up Touch Id or Face Id without first having a
passcode hence it's really the passcode requirement which is necessary for
setting up Apple Pay.

RE: How Is ApplePay Used?

2019-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fazil,

I assume you have a credit card and use tap? Apple Pay is no different instead
that instead of tapping your credit card to the terminal you hold your iPhone
very close over it and when the request pops up on the screen put your finger
to the Touch Id sensor as Wayne explained. Wayne, Fazil is in Canada and here I
would say 98 or 99% of businesses support Apple Pay because our credit cards
here have been chip cards for years and almost all places have contactless
terminals. In most places you can simply tap your credit card to the terminal
and that's it, usually this works only for transactions under $100, if it's
more you have to stick your card into the reader and enter your PIN, signatures
have been a thing of the past here for a long time.

If you do not have Touch ID set, or if it does not recognize the finger after a

We will always need some way to transfer music from a computer to our
devices. I am a huge fan of Apple Music, and couldn't imagine not having a
subscription, it has revolutionized the way I deal with music. But although
they are getting better, they still do not have everything in the ITunes
Music store on Apple Music, and there is still quite a bit not even in the
ITunes store. So buying it from some other source, then transferring it from
the computer is the only way to get it to the device. I guess that is what I
get for loving all that so-called weird jazz.

I also use iTunes to transfer music to my iPhone. Everyone talks about

Internet service will be interrupted on a train going through a tunnel. I

Richard, I have the latest version of the Amazon app, but not the latest
version of iOS. I'm still on 12.1 or something like that. I don't think
updating iOS would really make that much of a difference, but it's long
overdue, so I'll get that done at some point and see if things change.

I've filtered my orders before, and got quite good at it. I find that once you
focus on any of the radio buttons, you can then flick through them as
usual--though you have to touch one of them first to get VO to find them.

Thanks,

very excited, have my new iPhone

2019-06-06 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I have my new iPhone. It arrived today. My dad put my
phone in my iPhone case that I bought. Someone very nicely gave me a
glass screen protector that my dad also put on my phone. I'm going to
have to go to a verizon store to get my phone set up. I called
Verizon and gave them my phones IMEI number and the number on my sim
card, and now I can receive phone calls from people. I can't make
phone calls just yet until my phone is set up. A very nice guy named
John from apple tech-support explained to me why my phone was
displaying what it was and why I could receive phone calls. I was
very surprised when a friend of mine called me. I didn't know that my
phone could receive phone calls until he called. So, if anyone would
like to call me, just call me at 815-978-8668. Have a great evening
all.

have you checked with HumanWare to see if there is a firmware update that might
help?
What features are you wanting in a display?
How many cells, do you want note taking on the device?

Re: How Is ApplePay Used?

2019-06-06 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hello. Apple Pay is in the iPhone 6 and later. You don't need to hand
your phone to the clerk, and I wouldn't do that anyway if I were using
Apple Pay. There should be an NFC sensor on or near the keypad. Hold
your phone close to the sensor with the back camera facing the sensor.
I hold a finger I have Touch ID set up with on the home button, and
then I feel a vibration and the phone dings and is charged for the
purchase. In the event that it does not ding after a moment or two, I
may have to remove my finger and then place it again. Usually the
second time I place it on the home button, my purchase goes through.
If you do not have Touch ID set, or if it does not recognize the
finger after a few times, it may prompt for a passcode. Not all
businesses support Apple Pay, but the numbers are growing all the
time.

Good luck,
Wayne

How Is ApplePay Used?

2019-06-06 Thread Fazil
Hi, list.

I am sure this question might have been answered here scores of times
without me paying attention to it because it wasn't needed before, however,
I need it now. How is ApplePay is used? Do you have to hand your phone to
the person processing the payment?

Does ApplePay support iPhone5S?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Re: Is anyone else having trouble filtering past orders in the Amazon app?

2019-06-06 Thread englishrider91
Richard, I have the latest version of the Amazon app, but not the latest
version of iOS. I'm still on 12.1 or something like that. I don't think
updating iOS would really make that much of a difference, but it's long
overdue, so I'll get that done at some point and see if things change.

I've filtered my orders before, and got quite good at it. I find that once you
focus on any of the radio buttons, you can then flick through them as
usual--though you have to touch one of them first to get VO to find them.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Good News: Apple Will Not Kill iTunes for Windows Just Yet

2019-06-06 Thread Arnold Schmidt
We will always need some way to transfer music from a computer to our devices.
I am a huge fan of Apple Music, and couldn't imagine not having a subscription,
it has revolutionized the way I deal with music. But although they are getting
better, they still do not have everything in the ITunes Music store on Apple
Music, and there is still quite a bit not even in the ITunes store. So buying
it from some other source, then transferring it from the computer is the only
way to get it to the device. I guess that is what I get for loving all that
so-called weird jazz.

I also use iTunes to transfer music to my iPhone. Everyone talks about
streaming services, but streaming is not possible on an airplane and Internet
service will be interrupted on a train going through a tunnel. I carry around
hundreds of albums on my iPhone.

Re: Recalibrating braille screen input

2019-06-06 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I thought that was how to do it, but it wasn't working. Not only that, but it
wasn't switching from tabletop to screen away mode. I found a really good apple
screen input guide on Applevis, the link to which I will post at the end of
this message. Somehow, orientation had gotten locked, and it was locked in
some kind of truly messed up state, with all the dots in truly wrong places. I
did a three-finger swipe down, it unlocked orientation, and things are back to
normal now. Who knows. This guide has several things in it I never knew.

Re: missed keynote

2019-06-06 Thread Kelly Pierce
In previous years, I have downloaded the video and converted it to an
MP3 file, sharing it with everyone. This year, I listed to the
keynote from Twit, which is Leo LA Porte’s service. He has a podcast
for special events that is distributed in Mp3 format. Leo narrated
some of the visuals. For example, the presenter of the Apple Maps
update was using an electric wheelchair. She seems to be the first
person with a visible disability to present at an Apple keynote on a
non-accessibility related issue.

RE: Good News: Apple Will Not Kill iTunes for Windows Just Yet

I am not saying syncing music to your phone is a bad thing, it's everybody's
choice, but you can certainly also download your music from Apple Music for
offline listening all without iTunes.

I also use iTunes to transfer music to my iPhone. Everyone talks about
streaming services, but streaming is not possible on an airplane and Internet
service will be interrupted on a train going through a tunnel. I carry around
hundreds of albums on my iPhone.

RE: Changing Credit Card and Mailing Address including Country for Apple ID?

2019-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can open Settings on your iPhone and select the first item where is shows
your Apple Id, then under Name, Phone Numbers, email change some of your
information regarding address and under Payment and Shipping you can change
your credit card info.
You can also go to http://AppleID.apple.com and log in on the website and
change it there.

I was away from this list for over six months as I had total shoulder
replacement surgery so if this has just been discussed please accept my
apology. I am wondering if the voiceover has been improved with the my
doorbell app. I looked at it over a year ago and it wasn't totally
accessible. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

tap dots 123. On an iPad, double-tap all six dots simultaneously.

Re: need some advice, a hold up on getting my iPhone, but will get it in a different way

2019-06-06 Thread Kelly Pierce
I would order it directly from Apple, if porch theft is not an issue
where you live. Even in a small town, finding a reader is a lot
easier than finding a driver for an out of town trip. iOS walks the
end user through the installation. If using a sighted person, it will
take less than an hour. There is a way to do it with VoiceOver, but I
have bought my phones at an Apple store and they have set the phone up
for me.

Recalibrating braille screen input

2019-06-06 Thread Arnold Schmidt
How do I recalibrate braille screen input? It is very messed up. I want to try
recalibrating it before resetting all settings. The last time I did that,
voiceover would not come on and I had to get sighted help to turn it on. Thank

RE: Is anyone else having trouble filtering past orders in the Amazon app?

2019-06-06 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Ari,
I can still access all that order history and filter by years or digital, etc.
>From the main screen, double tap on Navigation menu.
Then, you can flick to your Orders link and double tap.

Then, double tap on filter orders link.

You want to slide your finger around the screen to find the various radio
buttons.
This is with the latest iOS, and the latest update to the Amazon App.

I hope that helps,
Richard

Subject: Is anyone else having trouble filtering past orders in the Amazon app?

Hello, everyone,

It's been quite a while since I posted to the list, and I have a few questions
about the Amazon app. I've used this app for years, and have put up with some
odd quirks, like scrolling by heading in a product's page being a bit
unreliable; often times, going down heading by heading will skip you right past
the description and features and details section and get you to sponsered
products or the FAQ. This is annoying, but easily dealt with by simply flicking
up a few times to move to the description heading.

My latest problem with the app is much worse and extremely irritating. I can no
longer filter my past orders, say, to restrict orders to a certain year or
order type, i.e., digital versis physical orders. There's a button called
search and filter your orders right next to the edit box titled the same thing,
but tapping that button appears to do nothing, though VO does make the page
refresh noise. Also, the piece of text called past six months does nothing
except take me into the page of my most recent order. It's actually situated
after my most recent order; so, I have the search and filter your orders
button, then the same labeled edit box, then my most recent order, then the
piece of text that says past six months, then my second most recent order. This
whole situation is extremely frustrating! I often share products I've ordered
with friends, and the Amazon app made this task quite easy and pleasant in the
past--but now, as far as I can tell, if you're a VO user, you're completely
unable to do this, at least with the app (I haven't checked the website yet to
see if the same holds true there).

So, is anyone else having these issues? Am I just going nuts? Is my phone
possessed?

Thanks,
Ari
