What do all of us touch thousands of times every day? Our smartphones or

Two unique models available from Mystic Access offer voice prompts to tell you

RE: Apple TV and apps

2020-11-30 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello, I do not believe that you can use Twitter or email through your Apple
TV, but one thing that you can do, which I have done quite often is to use
Screen Mirroring in Control Center to Stream Facebook Live, Youtube, and any
other apps that produce audio or video.
If you have the correct hardware, you can literally connect your phone via the
lightning port to HDMI output to your entertainment system, this hardware is
sometimes called an iPhone camera kit.
I have streamed to the apple tv both ways, and some apps even support airplay,
which is also another third method for getting sound or video from your phone
to your home theater system to Apple TV.

I got one of these from Mystic Access and it has voice on it and it's simple to
use. It's supposed to get rid of germs on your phone. You can use it for your

Hi,

The AIRA app supports two vocal commands that can work with SIRI. Using SIRI
you can say
"make an AIRA call"
or
"Call AIRA"

and the app will open. I don't think you need to do anything to set up these
commands other than turning on the SIRI opotion in AIRA's settings. I do not
use AIRA so I can't give any further details here.

iPhone sanitizer

2020-11-30 Thread Jim Portillo
Good evening,

Has anyone used or does anyone currently use one of those UV Phone
sanitizers? I know they sell them at Staples, and someone wants to get me
one as a gift, but I wonder how well they work and if a blind person will be
able to use them.

Are there alternatives to the Staples ones that maybe talk or give audible
feedback?

RE: Seeking information about shortcuts

2020-11-30 Thread Richard Turner
As someone pointed out with Be My Eyes, the shortcut is there for you to add.
Open Be My Eyes.
Open Settings within the Be My Eyes app.
Find and double tap on the Siri shortcuts button.
There is one called, “Call volunteer” just activate that and choose add then
save.
When you tell Siri to “call volunteer” it will call the next available
volunteer using Be My Eyes.
Or, you can customize it and change the command to whatever you want.
I do not know if Aira has the same feature since I pretty much don’t use it.

Thanks to those who have responded to my inquiry.

What I hope to do is to set up a shortcut which would allow me to give Siri a
specific command which would connect me to Be My Eyes, and a different phrase
which would connect me to Aira. It doesn't matter to me whether it is a
command for Siri or perhaps a command to tap on the back of the S E 2.
, the idea being anything which would require as little interaction with the
iPhone as possible.

Subject: iPhone 12 and Voiceover

Hi there,

This morning I took delivery of a new iPhone 12.

I have just gone through the setup process and elected to restore my apps etc
from my most recent iCloud backup.

Towards the end of the setup process I was asked to download and instal the
latest version of the iOS which I did. Upon completion of that process the
iPhone showed me a screen indicating how much of the iCloud restore was left
and the length of time it would take. Now that that has completed, Voiceover
is still loaded because I can hear the clicks but there is no speech. I have
tried double tapping the screen with 3 fingers in case speech had been turned
off but that wouldn’t appear to be the case. I have even tried turning
Voiceover off and back on by triple clicking the side button but all I get is
clicks and no speech. Does anyone know what has happened and how I can get
speech back please?

Many thanks for any help,

Andrew

Re: iPhone 12 and Voiceover

2020-11-30 Thread Ignacio Suarez
That happened to me when I got my iPhone 12 Pro Max about two weeks ago. The
voiceover came back after a few hours. I think what it does, is that all your
back up is trying to sinking into your phone. That is the reason it doesn’t
work at the beginning. I called Apple technical support, but they were not able
to do anything at the beginning. I suggest you wait for a few hours until your
phone sinks in all your back up. I hope this works for you.

iPhone 12 and Voiceover

2020-11-30 Thread Andrew Roberts

Andrew

Re: Looking for a product

2020-11-30 Thread Alan Lemly
If you're looking for the Belkin Rock Star adapter with the lightning male
connector to attach to your iPhone and both 3.5mm and lightning female ports
for attaching an audio plug and a lightning cable for listening and charging at
the same time, you can also get it from the Apple Store for $34.95 with free
shipping. I didn't check the prices at Amazon. Here is a link to it at the

I believe the Rockstar from Belin is a splitter, in other words at one end you
have a male Lightning connector and on the other end you have a female 3.5Mm
connector and a female Lightning connector. This way you can plug in some 3.5Mm
headphones and still have a Lightning port you can use to charge the phone. Is
this what you’re looking for?

It sounds like you just want the dongle that has a male Lightning connector on
one end and a female 3.5Mm connector on the other end. If that’s what you’re
looking for, I’m not exactly sure what that’s called or who makes them. I got
one with my iPhone and I’ve picked up a few at Best Buy, but I’ve never ordered
one.

Using Google lead me to this list on Amazon, which lists both kinds of
connectors

Re: iphone transferring to Homepod questions.

2020-11-30 Thread Agent086b
Hi,
to transfer iPhone to HomePod unlock the phone and hold it just above the Pod
and it will move what is playing on the phone to the Pod.
So as long as there is something playing on the phone the Pod will keep playing.
To bring it back to the phone repeat the process and the phone will start
playing what was on the Pod.
Max.

Re: Seeking information about shortcuts

2020-11-30 Thread Dave Clement
Hello,

Here is an Apple Support article that may help you learn to use the Short Cut
app to create your own short cuts.
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/shortcuts/welcome/ios

Many 3rd party apps provide short cuts that you can install. "Be My Eyes" has
one such available.

1. Open "Be My Eyes"
2. Double tap the "settings" button
3. Double tap the "call volunteer" button under "suggested short cut"
4. This will bring up a screen from which you can tailor the phrase you want to
use to activate the short cut and save the short cut on your device.

As I say, many non-Apple created apps now support this kind of short cut
option. Just look in the "settings" option of any app to see if such exists.

Note - I am referencing IOS 14.2 in this discussion.

Looking for a product

2020-11-30 Thread Donald L. Roberts
I miss the 3.5 mm. audio jack on my S E 2.  I have heard of a product
whose exact name I don't know, but it is something like a Belkin    Rock
star.  I believe there is more than one product with a similar name, so
I would appreciate someone pointing out which product I want.  I am
looking for the one which has only the 3.5 mm. jack as well a the port
for the lightning charger.

Thanks.

Re: Does anyone know about Tunein stations no longer available

2020-11-30 Thread Richard Turner
Sadly, radio has been on a downhill slide for 40 years or mWhen I first moved
to Salem Oregon, for college, which gets most of its radio from the Portland
radio market, there were something like 40 or 50 different owners.Move ahead
about 20 years and there were about 5 owners. The large conglomerates were/are
buying up the small stations. It is now difficult to find any consistent local
news, traffic etc.The internet is going the same way.I canceled my TuneIn
premium because they lost the NFL and I think MLB.SSo back to the MLB app, and
the Gameday football app, and the world goes on.

Re: Does anyone know about Tunein stations no longer available

2020-11-30 Thread Duane Steele
Kathy, and others who may be interested, Unfortunately, there's a struggle
going on with all of the internet radio services, especially TuneIn and iHeart
Radio. Over the past year, iHeart Radio has bought many of TuneIn's stations...
a prime example, WBZ in Boston. I have a really good friend who keepsup with
all the changes in radio, and he tells me that all of the internet radio
streaming services are in a virtual struggle to gain the upper hand when it
comes to internet streaming. I have seen changes also when I try to stream
radio with my second generation Victor Stream. Sorry to share such bad news.
But radio, overall seems to be headed on a downward spiral, except perhaps for
SiriusXm.

Is there anything I can do to make the Braille display connect at login

VoiceOver comes on immediately my Mac starts up so my orbit reader should
connect. The display is set to 6 dot UEB BY DEFAULT. Is there a Braille command
to change to 8 dot and tgen back to 6 dot? And is such a command executed while
the orbit reader 20 is turned on? Off? Or when I’ve opened the Menu?
Thanks

Re: Login to Mac mini with Braille display

2020-11-30 Thread Richard Turner
VoiceOver has to be running before the braille display can do anything. On an
iPhone, I can enter my passcode by switching to 8 dot brl. When does VO load on
your Mac?If it is on before the password, I would think it would work. Perhaps
time to call Apple?

Richard

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon
airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep
space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was
young."
"Why, what did she tell you?"
"I don't know, I didn't listen."
