Re: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad

2021-08-19 Thread Kenneth Washington
Believe you need to be using the Beta of iOS 15 to get the options in
settings. You won't be able to enjoy Spatial Audio until you toggle it
on for Video, Audio or Both. The default is set too off.

I was running iOS 14.7.1 too and experienced what you are currently.
Install the beta and all Spatial Audio settings will be available. Trust me.

Under Setting -> Accessibility -> Audio/Visual I had Headphone
Accommodations turned off. I toggled this on, and I see a number of
options, but nothing related to spatial audio.

Did you set the options for it under Settings/Accessibility/Airpods? I
set mines to both video and audio. The default is off. Think you need
to set that option for the toggle in the Control Panel to
disable/enable Spatial Audio.

difference in the audio. The Netflix show I watched was kind of
old, so I don’t know if it hasn’t been rolled out at all yet or
just not for the show I was watching. When I brought up Mythic
Quest from Apple TV Plus, I could definitely hear a difference
when I turned on spacial audio, but it wasn’t a life changing
experience. I’ll keep playing with it, and I’m looking forward to
hearing more examples of this in Netflix and with IOS 15. I’m also
glad I found out about bringing this option up from the volume
slider in the control center, so thanks to Richard and the list

information with this post. I’m just pointing out my own limited

You need to be using iOS Beta 15 to see the Spatial Audio option
in Settings/Accessibility/Airpods...towards the bottom of the page.

You can also bring up the iOS Control Panel and triple tap on the
Volume slider control That will launch a hidden menu in which
"Enable Spatial Audio" can be toggled on or off from there too. It
works on all audio playing on any app through your Airpods.

It works great and I plan on using it when listening to my Eagles
vs. Pats preseason game on my iPhone 8 tonight. Have a SiriusXM
subscription. Talk about feeling like I'm on the field. Should be fun!

articles now, and it is apparently not talking about that
menu that richard’s been talking about. They just say it’s a
toggle on or off, not a menu. So I guess if you don’t see it
in your control center, it hasn’t rolled out to your version
of Netflix yet.

I just tried with a pair of older plantronics headphones.

Before, I was using the Airpods Max.

So even with the beta, no menu without the right headphones.

RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

2021-08-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You have to write the individual app developers as they are the ones who have
to make sure their apps are compatible with the version of iOS they say works.
If Audible says it runs on iOS 11 and above and it does not work correctly on
iOS 13 then Audible has to fix it and not Apple.

You are running 14.7.1. There is no problem with that version, it is those
earlier than 14. I had just reset network settings over the weekend, I just did
it again, just to be sure, with the same results. Remember, it is not just
Audible, it is four apps over the last two days. I don't remember what two of
them were, I deleted them. The fourth one, Shazam, will still work with the
version that was on my phone, but it will not update. I probably will write
Apple Support later today.

You need to be using iOS Beta 15 to see the Spatial Audio option in
Settings/Accessibility/Airpods...towards the bottom of the page.

You can also bring up the iOS Control Panel and triple tap on the Volume slider
control That will launch a hidden menu in which "Enable Spatial Audio" can be
toggled on or off from there too. It works on all audio playing on any app
through your Airpods.

It works great and I plan on using it when listening to my Eagles vs. Pats
preseason game on my iPhone 8 tonight. Have a SiriusXM subscription. Talk about
feeling like I'm on the field. Should be fun!

In Settings -> Accessibility -> Airpods, under Spatial Audio, I have Follow
iPhone set to off. I had this on before spatial audio showed up, and I didn’t

Under Setting -> Accessibility -> Audio/Visual I had Headphone Accommodations

Did you set the options for it under Settings/Accessibility/Airpods? I set

RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

2021-08-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hi Everyone,

I am delighted to report the following:

About an hour or so, ago, I noticed that the Audible listing in the app store
had been updated to state that the latest version requires iOS 14 or higher. I
also noticed that the size of the download file has increased by a third.

I took this as a good sign.

So, I then selected the re-download option as I had done countless times during
the past 24-hours (smile) and, after being told that iOS 14 was required to run
the latest version, to my delight, I was prompted to download an older version
of the app. I said "OK" to the prompt and version 5.40 of Audible was
successfully installed on my beloved iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 13.7.

A little while ago, I received another email from Audible stating that they had
contacted Apple and that the problem had been resolved and that I should go
ahead and attempt to re-download the app.

According to Audible, the problem had something to do with Apple but, whatever
the case, it has been resolved.

On an iTunes for Windows 7 note: I successfully installed iTunes 12.10.11.2 on
my PC. After having done so, I made my first iTunes backup of my phone in over
a year as it had been that long since the backup feature had failed in iTunes
12.6. Of course, I have iCloud backups of all of my devices but I much prefer
a encrypted computer backup to iCloud, if given a choice.

Finally, a happy ending (big smile).

Subject: RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

Hello All,

Okay, I received a reply from Audible this morning that is of absolutely no
help. According to them, the latest version of the app will only work with iOS
14 or later.

Yes, as we have discovered, the app does show up in the app store of iOS13.
And, when you read the description of the app, it clearly states that the app
is compatible with iOS 11 or higher.

I will now paste in part of the message I received from Audible.

[BEGIN MESSAGE]:
Hello Mark,

The current version of the Audible app for iOS is 3.54 and requires iOS version
14 or higher, or watchOS 7 or later. Users on older OS versions will not see
this update available in the App Store.

Thank you for contacting Audible!

The current version of the Audible for iOS (v3.54) requires an OS version of 14
or higher, or a watchOS of 7 or later. As I understand from the information
provided your iOS device is currently running iOS 13.7.

While an older version of the Audible for iOS app will remain available to you
in the App Store, to see any further updated versions, you will need to update
your device to iOS 14. Please also keep in mind that while we will continue to
support you with troubleshooting steps, new features and fixes may not be
available to you and any troubleshooting of older app versions may be limited.

Thank you again for your continued patience. Stay safe.
[END MESSAGE]:

So, after receiving this message I immediately contacted iTunes support and
spoke, at length with a senior advisor. She assures me that they only have 1
(one) version of the app on the store and that the app is the latest version,
only.

I asked her what would happen if a person running iOS 13.7 attempted to
download the Audible app, for the very first time.  That seemed to stump her;
she said that she did not know; that a device, downloading the app fir the very
first time, may, in fact, have access to the earlier version of the app.
Regardless, it does not apply to me because they cannot remove the app from my
list of purchases.

So, a few minutes ago, just as an afterthought, I searched the web for a 32-bit
version of the latest versions of iTunes for Windows. You may recall that a
while back, when I searched, I could not find any Apple supported version of
iTunes for Windows 7 or 8, 32-bit.

Well, believe it or not, as of December 7, 2020, they have made a 32-bit of
iTunes 12.10.11.2 available for download. I was stunned.

Later this weekend, I will attempt to install this version of iTunes onto my PC
and, if successful, then I will update my beloved 8 Plus to iOS 14.

Wish me luck.

Mark

Yes, I’m rather impressed with the way the spatial audio gives you a completely
immersive experience.
and with this new added toggle to apply something like it to regular stereo
material is excellent.

Now, I really wish the makers of the Zombie shooting game, Rubber Ducky had
been able to continue its development. It would be even more amazing now with
the Airpods Max and this spatial effect.

That game was great because you had to physically spin around which made it a
great exercise routine as well.

It's not just for Netflix. It works on all audio playing through your Airpods.
Music, podcast, live radio, movies etc...

You have to toggle it on from within the iOS Control Panel. Simply triple tap
on the volume control slider to access it.

Must be running iOS Beta 15.

Does sound more emercive when listing too Dolby Atmos audio content.

It's sort of scary. Feels like your in the center of the movie with sounds

Re: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad

2021-08-19 Thread Kenneth Washington
You need to be using iOS Beta 15 to see the Spatial Audio option in
Settings/Accessibility/Airpods...towards the bottom of the page.

You can also bring up the iOS Control Panel and triple tap on the Volume
slider control That will launch a hidden menu in which "Enable Spatial
Audio" can be toggled on or off from there too. It works on all audio
playing on any app through your Airpods.

It works great and I plan on using it when listening to my Eagles vs.
Pats preseason game on my iPhone 8 tonight. Have a SiriusXM
subscription. Talk about feeling like I'm on the field. Should be fun!

Re: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad

2021-08-19 Thread Mary Otten
I just tried with my AirPods Max and this iPhone 10 r running 14.7.1. I don’t
see anything in control center. I also did not get any kind of menu when I did
a single finger triple tap on the volume control in control center. I got the
three ascending tones and no menu. According to these articles I’ve been
seeing, the new Netflix feature, when it rolls out to your phone, will be
available in iOS 14, you don’t have to wait for the beta.

RE: Amazon Alexa goes to earpiece

2021-08-19 Thread Alan Lemly
Brian,

Below is a post I made to the idevi...@groups.io list on 8/10/21 providing a
workaround correction to this issue:

Abbie,

The reduced Voiceover volume in the Alexa app started a few upgrades ago. To
get Voiceover back, press the Home button on your SE 2020 to jump to your home
screen and then return to the Alexa app using the App Switcher. Voiceover
should be working correctly when you return. Then, do the following:

1. In the bottom right corner of the screen, execute the More button which
is button 5 of 5 on the bottomline tool bar.
2. Swipe right on the screen that opens to Settings and double tap.
3. Swipe right on the screen that opens to Alexa app settings and double
tap.
4. Swipe to Enable Alexa hands free and make sure it is turned on.

After doing this, the next time you open the Alexa app, Voiceover should again
be working at the correct volume level. At least it did for me after I did this.

hi,

I have a document within voice dream reader which is essentially an album of
unprotected MP3 audio files.

I would like to select several for copy and/or move to a new folder.

Is this possible? If so, could someone please explain a step by step?

I believe I have done this in the past, but I have not been able to figure it
out in recent days. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance. Keith

RE: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad

2021-08-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Which is what spawned my first question on this. I don’t have any app settings
in my control center, so unless I’m missing something, I’m not seeing how
Netflix is going to get something in the control center to turn on and off a
feature just for Netflix. I still need to play with it, and I’m still on IOS
14.7.1, but I suspect Richard is right.

I have seen a few more articles talking about this Netflix spacial audio thing.
They say it is rolling out slowly, and the toggle to turn on spacial audio for
Netflix will be found in the control center they say. I’ve seen that in several
articles now, and it is apparently not talking about that menu that richard’s
been talking about. They just say it’s a toggle on or off, not a menu. So I
guess if you don’t see it in your control center, it hasn’t rolled out to your
version of Netflix yet.

RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

2021-08-19 Thread M. Taylor

She assures me that they only have 1
(one) version of the app on the store and that the app is the latest version,
only.

I asked her what would happen if a person running iOS 13.7 attempted to
download the Audible app, for the very first time.  That seemed to stump her;
she said that she did not know; that a device, downloading the app fir the very
first time, may, in fact, have access to the earlier version of the app.

Subject: RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

Hello Everyone,

First, let me thank all of you for the wonderful feedback on this issue.

Rather than cluttering up the list by replying to each post, individually, I
will write a general reply here:

1.
This audible problem appears to happen with versions of iOS earlier than 14.x

2.
The info in the app store clearly states that the latest release, v3.54 should
work with all versions of iOS 11 or higher.

3.
The issue is not the download process but the installation process.

4.
I was running the previous build of the app but got annoyed at the fact that
the App Store badge kept stating that 1 new update was available. This is why
I deleted the previous version of Audible in an attempt to install a fresh
copy. Obviously this did not work; so now I don't have the app on my phone.

5.
As much as it shames me, all of my Windows computers are obsolete; as such, I
cannot download the latest version of iTunes. Were I to update the OS on my
phone to iOS 14.x, then I would no longer be able to use my current version of
iTunes for Windows in order to sync data. I have just been delaying the
inevitable, said inevitability being that I must buy a new Windows computer so
I can install the latest version of iTunes. Another option is that I can
switch my iTunes Library to my Mac, an option in a pinch but one I would prefer
to avoid. There is really not a good reason to avoid using my Mac for my
primary phone but, deep down, I'm a Windows guy, I guess (smile).

6.
I am going to buy whatever version of iPhone is next released, regardless of
Touch ID. So, at that time, I will take the plunge and add a new Windows
computer to the team so I can have every available option for the new phone.

7.
I have posted feedback about this problem in the App Store.

8.
I have contacted Audible support and they have created a trouble ticket and
assure me that the problem should be resolved in a few days.

9.
I also contacted Audible via Twitter. They actually told me that I could
download the previous version of the app from the App Store but, of course,
they were mistaken; that kind of rollback is

2021-08-19 Thread Kenneth Washington
I was running IOS 14.7.1 and didn't see the spatial audio setting. I
updated to the iOS beta 15.6 and can access the settings now to enable it.

You need to bring up Safari browser and visit this page to learn more:

I did do a full backup of my iPhone 8 to iCloud and my PC before
updating to Beta. Works great! Love my Airpod Max even more now.

Nice! Does anyone know which movies or TV shows on Netflix has this
spatial audio track available? Wish to test this out on my Airpods Max.

There is also a confusing setting on my iPhone called "Follow iPhone."
It's located in Settings/Accessibility/Airpods. Not sure if this needs
to be toggled off or on to enable the Spatial audio feature.

Netflix has confirmed that it is now rolling out Spatial Audio
support to its iPhone and iPad applications. This enables an
immersive experience using directional audio filters, and it has
been a long time coming to Netflix users.

A Netflix spokesperson has confirmed to /9to5Mac /that the company
has started rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad
on iOS 14. The news was first reported by users on Reddit

as well as in a report from /iPhoneSoft/

,

The toggle for managing Spatial Audio is located in the Control
Center. The spatial audio feature is exclusive to AirPods Pro and
AirPods Max.

Apple says that spatial audio is an immersive experience using
directional audio filters to “play sounds virtually anywhere in
space, creating an immersive sound experience.” This will put
surround channels exactly in the right spot, even as you turn your
head or move your device.

Here’s how Apple describes the spatial audio feature for AirPods
Pro and AirPods Max users:

Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie
theater experience right to your AirPods Pro. By applying
directional audio filters and subtly adjusting the frequencies
each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds virtually
anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound
experience. Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your
AirPods Pro and your iPhone, spatial audio tracks the motion
of your head as well as your device, compares the motion data,
and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to
your device even as your head moves.

iOS 15 takes Spatial Audio to the next level with a new Spatialize
Stereo option

,
which simulates the Spatial Audio experience for non-Dolby Atmos

Vicki,

It sounds like you want to reset location services. The default on a
new installation is for location services to be off for all apps and
to ask permission for each app. When location services are reset, it
will be off and you can then decide what you want to enable. You can
also just flick through the list and individually set your location
services preference for each app.

2021-08-19 Thread Mary Otten
I have seen a few more articles talking about this Netflix spacial audio thing.
They say it is rolling out slowly, and the toggle to turn on spacial audio for
Netflix will be found in the control center they say. I’ve seen that in several
articles now, and it is apparently not talking about that menu that richard’s
been talking about. They just say it’s a toggle on or off, not a menu. So I
guess if you don’t see it in your control center, it hasn’t rolled out to your
version of Netflix yet.

Yes, the iPhone’s location can be turned off entirely. However, you would
not be able to receive calls or text messages because your cellular
carrier

would not know which cell towers could provide service to you. Therefore,
cell phone companies need to track the location of devices on their

to provide service to them. The people on this list want this kind of

Otherwise, you can keep the cell service and determine which apps can

Alphabet, including YouTube, google and google Maps constantly track your
location even when the app is closed. It is necessary to configure

Re: location tracking question

In checking further, location services in privacy just applies to
apps. It can be turned on or off globally or set for each app. You
are correct that turning off location services does not impact calls
or texts. However, cell phone companies will still be having data on
a user’s location.

If you go to Settings, Accessibility, Airpods, under the Spatial Audio heading
you have a choice of having spatial audio off, only video, or audio and video I
think.
anyway, the explanitory message below that says:

When head tracking is turned on, spatial audio for supported audio and video
content will adjust based on your head movement. You can control spatial audio
in Control Center by touching and holding the volume slider, then tapping
Spatial Audio.
Try a one finger triple tap on volume there in control center and you find a
whole new menu of options for spatial audio. If on, it tries to provide that
experience even with recordings that are not in spatial audio.
I like it.
I hope this is true and I'm not accidentlly including beta features but I do
not have a device running 14.7 to double check;

Good news for AirPods Max and AirPods Pro owners who subscribe to Netflix.

Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad
9to5Mac  /  Chance Miller

Netflix has confirmed that it is now rolling out Spatial Audio support to its
iPhone and iPad applications. This enables an immersive experience using
directional audio filters, and it has been a long time coming to Netflix users.
A Netflix spokesperson has confirmed to 9to5Mac that the company has started
rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad on iOS 14. The news was
first reported by users on Reddit as well as in a report from iPhoneSoft,
The toggle for managing Spatial Audio is located in the Control Center. The
spatial audio feature is exclusive to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.
Apple says that spatial audio is an immersive experience using directional
audio filters to “play sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an
immersive sound experience.” This will put surround channels exactly in the
right spot, even as you turn your head or move your device.
Here’s how Apple describes the spatial audio feature for AirPods Pro and
AirPods Max users:
Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie theater experience
right to your AirPods Pro. By applying directional audio filters and subtly
adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds
virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound experience.
Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your AirPods Pro and your iPhone,
spatial audio tracks the motion of your head as well as your device, compares
the motion data, and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to
your device even as your head moves.
iOS 15 takes Spatial Audio to the next level with a new Spatialize Stereo
option, which simulates the Spatial Audio experience for non-Dolby Atmos
content. This allows AirPods Pro and AirPods Max users to listen to pretty much
any song or video.

  Hi.

I have a pair of gaming headphones that I connect to my iPhone with a
lightning adaptor. I lost that adaptor, and decided to order one that had a
3.5 mm jack on it, and a lightning jack to hook a cord so I could charge it
and use the headphones at the same time. I connected the gaming headphones
to the 3.5 mm jack to see how well it would work. I activated Siri on my
phone, and spoke into my gaming mic. To my surprise, Siri came out of the
speakers on my phone. I then tried to make a call on my iPhone, and instead
of it coming through my headphones, it was routed to the ear speaker, which
meant I couldn’t hear it. I can’t remember the brand of adaptor I got, but
at least this one didn’t route phone audio through it, and the gaming mic
didn’t work at all. I called up Apple and ordered that little lightning plug
that I had, and all works as expected. I do have an adaptor with two female
lightning plugs on it, so I can use my headphones and charge my phone at the
same time.

  Just giving a heads up.

I have one that uses the 3.5 MM earphone jack but they make one that uses
the lightning jack. It is a small rectangular box with a charging port for

maybe 3 inches, that you plug into the phones charging port.

RE: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad

2021-08-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't find the follow my iPhone setting any more, but this could be me and
not the fact that it isn't there anymore. This predates special audio. I turned
this off because as I'm wondering around the house, I don't need the audio to
appear as if it's coming from my iPhone, since I'm not actually looking at the
video on my phone. I'd assume you would not need to turn this on to work with
special audio, but you could test it to make sure.

Nice! Does anyone know which movies or TV shows on Netflix has this spatial
audio track available? Wish to test this out on my Airpods Max.

There is also a confusing setting on my iPhone called "Follow iPhone." It's
located in Settings/Accessibility/Airpods. Not sure if this needs to be toggled
off or on to enable the Spatial audio feature.

The news was
first reported by users on
Reddit
as well as in a report from
iPhoneSoft,

The toggle for managing Spatial Audio is located in the Control Center. The
spatial audio feature is exclusive to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

Apple says that spatial audio is an immersive experience using directional
audio filters to "play sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an
immersive sound experience." This will put surround channels exactly in the
right spot, even as you turn your head or move your device.

Here's how Apple describes the spatial audio feature for AirPods Pro and
AirPods Max users:

Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie theater experience
right to your AirPods Pro. By applying directional audio filters and subtly
adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds
virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound experience.
Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your AirPods Pro and your iPhone,
spatial audio tracks the motion of your head as well as your device, compares
the motion data, and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to
your device even as your head moves.

iOS 15 takes Spatial Audio to the next level with a new Spatialize Stereo
option,
which simulates the Spatial Audio experience for non-Dolby Atmos content. This
allows AirPods Pro and AirPods Max users to listen to pretty much any song or
video.

For the first time in eighteen months, I got to go out to a public gathering.
Of course, I put a fresh set of batteries in my hearing aids and inserted them
into my ears, but when I tried using the phone with them, not only were they
not paired with the phone, but I could not do the pairing. I opened Bluetooth
Settings and found somebody's LG something in the area with which I
accidentally paired, but my hearing aids weren't even on the list. My aids are
not the type that can receive firmware updates, so I know that's not the
problem. However, I do have an Apple Watch, and it was correctly paired with
the phone. Is it possible that it's not permissible to have a watch and aids
paired at the same time? Or did I possibly forget to set something up on the
phone correctly when I did the initial install and setup, moving from the 10S
(or XS) Max to the 12 Pro Max two months ago?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, gratefully received.

True, but since I was just planning to test the ability to get to the special

best sure fire way to check it out. I’m not clear on whether the Netflix

Actually you have to use headphones that support spatial audio to get that
menu.
I just tried with a pair of older plantronics headphones.
Before, I was using the Airpods Max.
So even with the beta, no menu without the right headphones.

Well, I just went into control center on my phone which is not running the
beta. I triple tapped on volume with one finger, and I did not see any sort of
menu. Now I was not using my AirPods Pro or HomePods max. I should’ve said
AirPods Max. So perhaps you actually have to be using them to access this menu,
otherwise it’s in the beta.

If you go to Settings, Accessibility, Airpods, under the Spatial Audio
heading you have a choice of having spatial audio off, only video, or audio and
video I think.
anyway, the explanitory message below that says:

When head tracking is turned on, spatial audio for supported audio and video
content will adjust based on your head movement. You can control spatial audio
in Control Center by touching and holding the volume slider, then tapping
Spatial Audio.
Try a one finger triple tap on volume there in control center and you find a
whole new menu of options for spatial audio. If on, it tries to provide that
experience even with recordings that are not in spatial audio.
I like it.
I hope this is true and I'm not accidentlly including beta features but I do
not have a device running 14.7 to double check;

I assume they’re talking about managing spatial audio overall, which within
be referring to the control center on the iPhone. I guess.

Ah, this is good news, but I’m not sure what’s meant by “The toggle for
managing Spatial Audio is located in the Control Center.” I didn’t think
Netflix had anything called the control center, and I thought you configured it
in the Bluetooth settings for your Airpod Pros.
