I can confirm this issue. I have an active Bookshare account. When I go into my 
Download history as an option for downloading books into VDR the Download 
button does not appear after each book as it used to. All that you see is a 
list of book titles with no way to perform an action on them.

I just did a review of voice dream; gave it five stars. The title is: “voice 
dream – a dream come true”. 

I paid for the subscription, gladly. I understand that for some folks coming up 
with $60  all at once is a stretch; a monthly subscription would be good. A 
friend pointe out that it would have been better if they’d showed us one of 
their touted upgrades before asking us to pay. But I love the app; if they 
could get it integrated with Kindle that would be a game changer and I would 
love an AI voice.

Well, I know I did a review of five star one, quite some time ago. So maybe it 
got buried. I have an updated it. If these people are really starting to update 
with crap reviews, I suppose I’ll have to go do mine too. But I think it’s 
ridiculous this complaining and complaining. You were not promised a 
perpetually free app after you paid your 10 or whatever dollars it was. In 
fact, if anybody has a long enough memory, you might remember when Winston 
himself charged for a major upgrade. I don’t remember the circumstances, but I 
do definitely remember having to pay for a big upgrade. And I didn’t care. It 
was worth it. This might be worth it too. It certainly the best app out there 
if you’re a big book user.

You need to get your facts straight.

The Applause Group bought Voice Dream LLC in April of 2023.  Applause Group 
never said you would never have to pay.  They said you didn’t have to pay right 
away.

Jonathan’s take is pretty clear, this is a good business decision.  

But, you are spreading false information.

Boycott it if you want and use something else, but do not give wrong 
information.

 

Could they have handled it differently, probably so.

 

And as I have said, more than once, Winston was going to have to do the exact 
same thing.

I tend to agree with you, Richard. What is book player if you know? I had never 
heard of bookplayer app. There is no way I’m going to speech Central. It’s just 
too clunky. If he did what he’s been asked to do and implemented an easy way to 
download bookshare books right through the app, Then I would possibly 
reconsider. But I don’t give two figures for all that fancy Voice stuff he’s 
doing. I’m perfectly happy with what I have now.

It may well be because I have a big Voice Dream library. But if it says 
download complete, which it always does, I feel like I should be able to go 
into my library and see it’s there. Not unavailable. Why is it unavailable? And 
why God‘s name, since I have iCloud Sync enabled on both of my devices, why 
doesn’t that work? I don’t even open it on my phone anymore because there’s so 
many books that I’ve downloaded to my iPad that I know absolutely if I open my 
phone there’s going to be a massive problem. So I suppose I should just not 
have my phone answering with iCloud anymore. But then what do I do when I 
finally get a new phone  Probably next year? I just wish these people would get 
into the guts of this thing and fix it.

wouldn’t want to pay for it in the current state it’s in. Not as a newbie.

How do I prevent my emails from being deleted on multiple devices

I use Microsoft-365, windows-10 on my desktop as my primary email program. I
only use my iPhone on occasion, mostly when I go out of my house. I recently
had to switch my Outlook-365 Verizon account from POP to IMAP. This means
that, unfortunately, my emails are no longer deleted from the server after I
download them on my desktop, so they come into my phone, too. It also seems
to mean  that when I delete an email on my phone or desktop, it's also
somehow deleted from the other device. I emphatically do not want that. How
do I prevent this from happening?

Hi. You need to actually get into the control center by swiping up from the top 
of the screen. There’s another way to get into it but I don’t remember what it 
is. Don’t get into the settings control center under settings you need to 
actually get into the control center and flick right until you see the lock

Request for a recommendation for a bluetooth headset

apple bluetooth keyboard not connecting

The issue is even more interesting. Although my IPAD recognizes that I have
a bluetooth keyboard, it says it isn't connected when I go into bluetooth
settings.

However, I just trie dit with my Iphone and the keyboard connected fine.

Until a few days ago, my apple bluetooth keyboard would easily connect to
all of my Ios devices. Now it won't connect at all. It had been a couple of
weeks since I'd use dit, so I thought maybe the batteries had drained. I
replaced the two AA batteries. 

After repeatedly pressing/pressing and holding down the on/off switch it
worked. Once, Now it won't work at all. I've replaced the batteries,
reversed the polatiry  no luck. Anybody got any ideas other than buying a
new keyboard?

And has anyone found them cheaper than they are at Amazon?

problem using nfl mobile

Iam new to the list. I downloaded NFL Mobile. I'm a Verizon customer, not an
NFL pass owner. After going through the sign-in process I got into the app
but had trouble finding the games. Many of the buttons didn't seem to be
labeled. Can someone give me a tip on how to access the actual games using
NFL Mobile?  Thanks. 

PS There were several apps; I chose the first one that came up on the list,
which says it was produced by the NFL.

I think the responses to this question raise a great point for Aple -- they
need to build in a "call 911" feature into their iPhone. Other phones, such
as the Samsung Haven, have a physical button you can pres to dial 911. In my
view, this is a real problem for the iPhone.

I can dial 911 1 handed on an iPhone.  Actually, most of the time while
navigating, I'm only using 1 hand.  That being said, there is no question in
my mind that you can dial 911 faster on a phone with a physical number pad
than a smart phone that doesn't have one.  Just do to the fact you have to
first open a menu, and possibly select the keypad or favorites tab depending
on what tab you were last in if using an iPhone.

There are two ways I can think of. Use SIRI and say "call 9 1 1" or set up a
911 contact and move it to your Favorites; make sure it's the first one in
your Favorites list by moving it there.

Go to your app switcher. Press the Home button to get to the home screen
then click twice to get to the app switcher. There you should see a list of
yur running apps. Flick over to one of the apps; double tap and hold until
you hear "editing apps". Then double tap the app to delete it from the app
switcher -- i.e., close the app. If you keep double-tapping apps you will
close them and eventually your phone will say that the app switcher has no
more apps; you  can then dismiss the app switcher.

What Eric is describing with that 4-finger tap is the process you use to
find the delete button if you want to delete an actual contact from your
contacts list entirely. You only want to delete somebody from your Favourite
list which will not remove that person from your contacts list, but only
from the Favourite list. If, of course, you want to get rid of a person
completely, deleting him/her from your contacts list will also remove
him/her from the Favourites list. Here is how you edit just the Favourites
list:
 
Go to "Favourites" in the Phone App. Tap the "Edit" button at the top
leftwhich now turns into a "Done" button. Now drag your finger down the
screen or flick right until you find the entry you want to delete. In this
"Edit" mode, each Favourite has 3 3 controls or elements to it. On the very
left edge down the screen is a "Delete" switch button. If, for example you
have a contact called "Bill Smith" and you had his Home number in the
favourites list, that button/control would be announced like this:
 
Delete Bill Smith, Home, switch button off
 
Double tap on this button and it will say this:
 
Confirm deletion for Bill Smith, Home, button
 
You can now double tap again to confirm or flick right and find a cancel
button. Once you double tap confirm the contact will be gone from your
favourites list and you will be taken out of Edit mode. 
 
The other thing you can do here is change the order in which the contacts
appear. As I said before, there are 3 parts or columns to each contact. The
left side/column are the delete switcher buttons in front of each contact.
In the middle is the actual contact name, in my example "Bill Smith, Home".
If you find the right column or flick right you find a button that reads
like this:
 
Reorder Bill Smith, Home, button, dragable
 
If you double tap when Voiceover has focus on this bbutton and hold on the
second tab like you would do to move apps or delete items from the app
switcher, you hear the little tri-tone and at that point you can drag your
finger up or down on the screen, up will move the entry further to the top
of the list, down will of course move it further down. For each position you
move it there will be a short, metallic sounding ping and Voiceover will
announce where you moved it. For example, let's say the person right above
Bill Smith was Sally Robinson and you have her work number in the
favourites, you moved your finger up, you would hear that ping and Voiceover
would say this:
 
Moved above Sally Robinson, Work.
 
If you dragged Sally down, you would hear
 
Moved below Bill Smith, Home.

How do I search the skype directory?

I'm using Skype on my iPhone and iPod and am having the same problem. I go
into my contacts and add a contact, then search the skype directory. I type
in a skype name or full name into the text box. When I flick right, I hear
two "cancel" buttons. I press the first one, assuming it's really "search",
and always get an "empty list", even though I'm searching for names that I
know exist. What am I doing wrong? How do I add a contact to the IOS version
of skype?
 
Second, if I add a name on my computer to my skype account, will that
addition be recognized when I log in via my iPhone or Ipod?

It would be helpful if people paid attention to e-mail threads.In NHL
Gamecenter, the Live feature enables you to watch TV of hockey games. You
have to pay for that.  The radio streaming is free.

As far as the Live games go you have to have an account at nhl.com
where you have to pay for that type of service. 
I had it a few years back before losing my sight where I watched the NHL
games on my laptop. I am almost positive it is the save service an in 2008
was about $130 a year.

Finding onetouch apps

I just did a search in the apps store for onetouch cnc, one touch cnc,
onetouch recording, etc. I keep getting no hits.
I was using my iPhone, not my computer to do this.
What am I doing wrong?

I downloaded and installed the NHL game center app because I thought I
would be able to live stream games (my husband can do this on his
droid). But I can't figure how to do it on my iPhone. Anybody have
this app and can point me in the right direction?

I know there are precious few games left in the season, but I'd still
like to know how to do this.

Kinber, I think the game is Saturday, not tomorrow. I believe it will be in
the evening but am not sure. Good luck with the audio; I haven't had any
problems with it. 
The NHL App works great during the regular season, by the way. Not game
Center, but the NHL app.

Kimber, if you're talking about TV streaming, I don't know how to do that.
There is a "live" button that you press, but I haven't donelive tv streaming
because you pay for that service. However, getting audio streaming is very
easy. Go to "More", the fifth tab, and then go to the left until you hear
"audio".
Double tap Audio and then listen for "play btn"; it's just to the left of
the volume. Press the Play button and the radio feed will come up. If
there's no feed running flicking to the right will give you the message
"there is currently no live audio" or something like that. 

So double tap on More, double tap on Audio and then double tap on Play btn.

Voice memo app

I'm interested in getting a fully accessible app I can record brief notes or
memos to myself and access them easily on the IPhone. 
Anybody got a suggestion re a good app?

The gestures are very intuitive; it takes a minimal amount of practice. I
recommend reading the section in the Iphone book you got that describes
them. There's a setting in the Voiceover section of Settings (Settings,
General, Accessibility, Voiceover) that enables Voiceover practice, so you
can practice the gestures.
A "double tap" is jus what it sounds like: you take one finger (or two in
certain circumstances) and uickly tap the phone screen twice. That's how you
open anapp or a menu. 
Flicking right or left involves taking your finger and brushing it to the
right or left 9or up or down) the screen, kind of like you are wiping a
crumbs off a tablecloth. 
Hope this helps. 
I was very worried about the gestures too, but they are easy to learn and
Voiceover is very helpful in its verbal cues.

It is possible that there are two devices -- say, an IPAD and an Iphone --
turned on at the same time in your house. If that's case, and your keyboard
is listed as being paired with both devices, the keyboard can't decide which
one to pair with.
I had this problem at a few months ago and  it freaked me out until a friend
suggested I check to see if both my IPOD and Iphone were runing at the same
time.

The processor on the 4S is faster; the camera is better, which is helpful
for the money reade rapp -- it works in low light automatically, and Siri
let syou do things that voice control doesn't. So I would definitely get the
4S. A friend of mine lost her previous generation Iphone, got a 4S and loves
it.
