Swipe down in each group to get more symbols in the group Same gesture inputs new line if you move your finger to the bottom right of the screen or bring up the number keyboard at bottom left of the screen. Improve swipe recognition engine I can definitely confirm the loading time improvement although it is much better than 50% faster. The initial Fleksy release on my 4S took about 28 or 30 seconds to load, just now it took about 10 or 12 seconds. One thing I noticed is that when I double tapped the app, almost immediately I get a message saying that I just had to approx. type where I thought the letters were, sort of a mini explanation of how it works, then there was a Cool, I got it and a More button. The Cool, I got it then loaded the app with the familiar initial interface and the More took me into Safari and loaded the full user guide, keep in mind that reader is available for this so it's easy to read it without extra stuff getting in the way. That message came up again when I exited and went back to Fleksy, but now it doesn't seem to do so any more. I hope this will stay like this because I don't certainly need to tap Cool, I got it each time I want to get in the app., but now Happy tapping, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Hi, I didn't change it because I wasn't actually adding to the info about the app, just noting the problem people could have finding info. RE: Best way to enter password question
Hi, I know that among some of the requirements are: a lower case letter, an upper case letter, numbers and there are a few rules about digits or letters in a specificorder. When the password you suggest is rejected, there should be a blurb about it on the page although you may have to arrow around to find it. RE: Best way to enter password question
Hi, For people who avoid words in their passwords, either using the numerical values of letters, e.g. 23 for w, 24 4 x etc. or using braille as in: 124 for f and so on and mixing these two together results in very strong passwords. You could for example, write apple as follows 1p161235 where 1 isA , 16 is p, the second p is plain, 123 is the l in braille 5 is the numerical value of the E. Once you get a pattern set the combinations are endless and you can always throw in contractions too. Jon Jon -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2012 9:02 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Best way to enter password question And just to throw in my 5 Cents worth of password whisdom, it is actually not recommended that you use actual words like you would find in a dictionary even if you do throw a couple numbers and an underscore in. Sure, it is better than using RedBlueGreen as a password, but even better and I always get the strong password indicator where that is indicated is to use just upper and lower case letters along with some numbers in between and/or at the end and punctuation. Of course some websites don't allow characters other than letters and numbers, but when they do I use it. As I told somebody before, I remember these seemingly random passwords by making up a sentence, I use the first letters of each word with proper upper and lower case and add in some numbers and characters. Yes, it does make for a bit slower typing, but where it counts like on banking, credit card and shopping sites including iTunes my passwords are at least 10 and sometimes up to 18 characters long. I do use Roboform, but for the most part I know my passwords since I do follow a pattern except it's really something that I believe nobody would have a chance at guessing. Gallegos Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2012 5:05 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Best way to enter password question Hi, in addition to Scott's excellent post below, you can use the same password type pattern for all your passwords. This makes them all easy to remember, while making each one different. For example, you can use something common, like your favorite ice cream flavor or favorite color. In the example of favorite color, let's use blue. So, to add some distinction, I use Blue with a capital B. Now, since it's Apple, I can start building my password by separating it with periods. So I can start with Blue.Apple. Note the capital b in blue and a in apple. Now, to add some numbers for that last bit of security. Maybe you can do the year you were born in but in reverse order. So, if you follow this same procedure, you can make 5 different passwords for 5 different services and yet you can remember them all by using the same pattern of favorite color, the name of the service, and your reverse birth year. So, my password for Apple, Paypal,, Gmail, Amazon, and my bank would be the following. Blue.Apple.47 Blue.Paypal.47 Blue.Gmail.47 Blue.Amazon.47 Blue.WellsFargo.47 As you can see, all have the same pattern, yet all are completely different. Of course, this is just a simple example, and no, these are not my real passwords, but it may get you started in the right direction. Take it from a former Unix sysadmin, you never ever want to use the same password for multiple services. -- Raul A. Conclusions on the Octopus keyboard
Hi, After removing Jailbreak tweaks and apps that could or were known to conflict with the Octopus tweak, the light went on in my poor overworked brain. The conclusion is actually quite obvious once you think about how VO works, and that what is a single tap of a letter for a sighted person is for VO users, a double tap. The reason Fleksy has users unload VO is in order to avoid that extra keystroke needed to do taps and/or swipes. If I had a sighted IOS fan around I'd unload VO and see if the Octopus functionality has been added to the IOS keyboard as the forums seem to indicate would happen. I had thought this was actually a separate keyboard and descriptions don't make this clear. Maybe someone else has some insight? RE: A new app I just discovered. OTR streamer
Hi Chris, Thanks for this one, it's awesome so far. The categories are pretty straight forward. The only difference I see is that while playing audio, the 2-finger-double-tap does not work, rather there is a play button (bottom middle) that you must double tap to pause/resume. Ok, I'm off to find out how to export these shows. RE: ANYONE TRIED FORCING FLEKSY INTO LANDSCAPE?
Hi Carol, I have gotten inconsistent results but had to do the following in order to make the app force-switch: 1. Turn on Force Landscape mode in settings/fleksy. 2. Go into the Task Switcher and turn off orientation lock. 3. Switch back to fleksy and rotate the phone. The developers say that at this point you may again lock the phone but the switch to landscape and back will still work within the app itself. My results were that this did work until some hours later, when I noticed that orientation did not change from portrait to landscape mode. What I don't remember is if I had removed the app from the Switcher in the meantime. RE: ANYONE TRIED FORCING FLEKSY INTO LANDSCAPE?
Hi Carol, You are correct that forcing means exactly that, regardless of the lock state of your control in the App Switcher. As I mentioned in my last message, unlocking the orientation once, switching by rotating the phone within the fleksy app and then relocking should do the trick. Does Windows 7 offer the chance to redo and convert WMA music to MP3 files, or, does someone out there in iPhone land have a suggestion for an easily accessible file conversion program? You might want to read over some of the recent jailbreak messages in the last couple of weeks because there was a thread where people posted a lot of why they like to jailbreak their phone. The messages can be found from the list archives, and the list archive Web address is found at the end of each message posted here. However to answer your question, one of the reasons I like to jailbreak is because I get access to a lot more tweaks and features to the iPhone that Apple normally doesn't allow you to do. For example, with a jailbroken iPhone I can integrate my Google voice number a lot more closely with the iPhone. I do not have to use a separate app to make phone calls. Another advantage is that I can use a schedule profile program so that my phone will automatically go into silent mode at a specified time. I can make it turn on or off Wi-Fi and or Bluetooth at specified times. I can change the theme of my phone to make it look like or sound like a Star Trek computer or a windows XP computer. I can make the music automatically stop playing when I disconnect the headphones and automatically resume playing when I connect the headphones. I can skip unlimited amount of times in the Pandora music player. And lastly, one of the most recent important ones, I can add and remove music from the iPhone without ever having to use iTunes. I can simply copy the music over as if my iPhone was a USB stick. -- Raul A. RE: Jail breaking
Hi Kelly, I've found 1 JB app that has issues with scrolling but I've also seen a few apps from the Appstore with bad accessibility implementation. So the short answer is, no problem with VO, Cydia etc. I find the JB community pretty VO-aware. You either ran into someone who is a bit of a nervous nelly or who is misinformed or who has overreacted to one bad experience or perhaps there was a hardware problem. App conflicts can happen, some sighted folks have had a recent conflict between Anavo Extend and some other apps, can't remember the particular situation right off. So Jailbreak away, and restore if you don't see any benefits. I have never owned a cell phone before and really learned the benefit of one when I was in a suburb and asked folks for directions a few times. no one could answer my questions directly. they all turned to their smart phones! I realized I could have the same thing in my hand that was fully accessible. I learned about the Straight Talk service and discovered that iPhone service is now more affordable than high speed Internet access was when I first subscribed more than 10 years ago. to use Straight Talk or most of the other prepaid services, it is necesssary to unlock the phone. Unlocking usually requires jail breaking, I understand. Even if it doesn't I would eventually jailbreak anyway for the added flexability. A friend told me that unlocked and jail broken phones are unstable with Voice Over. He said the places where one gestures or taps to initiate actions can move or change. These shifting locations he said can make it difficult for a blind person to use an unlocked phone. For this reason, he urges blind people to use contract service only. has anyone else experienced this with unlocked or jailbroken phones? Is voice Over less responsive and precise in unlocked or jail broken configurations than an out of the box phone from a contract provider? I appreciate all the contributions people have made in the few days I have been on the list. I have learned so much already. I can't wait to get started on this adventure in independence. I guess when IOS 6 is released, this app will be obselete. 5Column Springboard Lets you add a fifth column to your screen, so you can fit 16 apps on each page instead of 12. Thanks to whoever suggested the infinite folder app, I think it was called. I didn't know about that one. :) Lastly, infinite tweet lets you use twitlonger with the native twitter app. If anyone knows of a good app that'll back up all your cydia data, could you please pass it along? i think going through and reinstalling everything when i upgrade will be a huge inconvenience. Hi Thomas, Yes you sure can, I've had to do that before updating to a newer version of IOS. RE: Jail breaking
Hi Scott, A few ways to backup up Cydia have been mentioned here, but the answer is that you don't lose your apps or pay for them again. You simply login to cydia, grab your backup program and restore everything or use the backup file created for you in some cases. RE: Jailbreaking
Hi Ben, Let's see, BT stack GPS, lets you use additional devices aside from those approved by Apple. phonecall from notification center, is self-explanatory but brings up the 12-key dial pad when you tap the edit box. close folders, closes folders after you launch the app you opened them to find. iKeywi, adds a fifth row to your on-screen keyboard. PwnTunes:, lets you use the phone as if it were a USB stick for adding music and other content.. voice activator, lets you assign voice commands to do most anything, toggle things like Airplane Mode, WIFI, Bluetooth etc., launch apps with the command you specify. iSleepwell, kills all radios when your phone is face down, or you can select only certain radios to be turned off in this way. Fusion, post to Twitter, Facebook, MSN and others simultaneously with an assigned command using one of the phone's buttons. Another handy tweak using activator lets you shake the phone once you've hit the home button to wake it up. I hope I've inspired a few of you to have as much fun, and success with jailbreaking (and restoring) the iPhone as I've had. Many of the things like the above tweaks eventually get swallowed up and incorporated directly into future IOS releases. RE: Slightly confused, how does one get to jailbreak app voice activator interface?
Hi, You will probably want to pick up SB settings I believe the package is called from Cydia as well. Voice Activator is configured from within settings. Under settings, on the first screen, swipe past about 2/3 of what's there and you'll find it. From there you can type in the spoken command and choose from hundreds of actions including opening any app on the phone. Thanks for the reply for sure. I did want to let you all know I figured out my issue with the voice actions and being able to get to its settings after purchasing it in Cydia. It was that I had not activated the install after the purchase. This is my first couple of hours in playing with anything jailbroken and Cydia. Then it took me a minute because Ihad to realize that it wanted me to activate the confirm button on the screen where it lists everything. I have no problem with any of this, actually the interface is kind of cool in that regard, but I had to figure it out. The least fun part was getting voiceover to read the paypal page that came up in the purchase process. Voiceover does not like that apparently large page and it is sluggish to react and sometimes you get nothing and then a couple of the delayed reactions. That combined with not being familiar with what they wanted me to do on that screen to begin with was not so fun. I figured it out. Hi, Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I purchased and cydia said voice activator was purchased. It does not have a home screen icon. Holding down home to have voice control come up does not produce anything additional or different that I am aware of. There is not entry in the main settings app. I could not find anything within its page on Cydia to double tap on to bring me to any kind of setup for this package. The answer to my question may have to do with how tweaks work since there is no home screen icon to get to them. That is also a point I am not certain of at this point. How does one get to tweaks installed or even delete them for that matter? It called this a package and I'm not sure if that is important to differentiate. I can say toggle bluetooth and bluetooth will toggle from on to off or off to on. If you don't have Siri, then you can get the Voice Activator tweak which allows you to customize what happens when you give certain commands. RE: Voicebook VO
Hi, Just in case anyone else wondered, this is for use with Facebook. Here's some info: Voice Book VO is a Facebook application designed specifically for those who use the Apple iOS Voice Over accessibility features. Basic Facebook functionality is finally available for the blind, low-vision, dyslexic, or other print-disabled people. Imagine being able to quickly and comfortably scan your news feed, post your status, comment on and like items. You can now keep up with your family and friends in the medium they are accustomed to without the frustration of a partially accessible app or having to resort to a PCs screen reader that is often confused by Facebook's site. With community support, we plan on expanding the features of Voice Book. See our support website (www.activeinfosys.com) for more details about future enhancements. RE: Premium English TV app
Hi, I just spent a pleasant couple hours with the app, watching a BBC film on the Titanic with no loss of signal at any point. There is a button, something about WIFI quality that could be of use. For some reason I'm always logged in as Ofelia21 and a ton of channels are listed as testing and you can't play them at all or at least I haven't been able to. Only a buck but a buck times a few hundred or thousand downloads, and someone made a killing. Hopefully we're mistaken. Somebody made money on a bunch of people and produced very little. Good thing it was only $0.99, lol. It took a long time to load, and finally started playing, but it only played for a few seconds, then jumped to something else, and eventually stopped working. If this is a steal for $.99, they reduced the price, I think they stole $.99 from us. Les On Apr 22, 2012, at 3:57 PM, Amy Ruell wrote: Wow. I don't see any indication of being logged in as anything. When I launch the app, I get a message stating that channels are being loaded. Then I see a list of channels, but most of them don't load, I get an in progress message, then nothing. At one point it said channels loading and then it just kept kicking me out so I reinstalled it and finally I got back in. It shows me as being logged in as Ophelia 21 whomever that is! Someone else who bought this app said they are logged in as the same thing.
