Re: noticed when I was recording something, phone call ringer didn't come through speaker.

2023-10-27 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Chris,

I think Jonathan Mosen was talking about a similar issue on the last
episode of his podcast. I can't recall how he fixed it, but he did fix
it. The podcast is living blindfully and it's the most recent episode.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, Mark. That's exactly what happened to me. I'm
running the most recent versions of Bard and iOS, but I've had the
loss of position for a very long time now.

What iPhone do you have? I have an SE 2nd gen.

Re: finding my groups in Facebook

2023-09-13 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I think this is a result of a change in the app. You used to be able
to scroll past the suggested groups and find a link for all the groups
you already belong to but not anymore. What I do now is perform a
search on the group I want and it is usually the first result.
Admittedly this will be a pain if you waant to find a large number of
groups, but it is a work around.

Re: today's Apple Event

2023-09-13 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I thought the exact same thing. But having watched the "big event" I
can say that my reaction was a huge yawn. I have zero interest in
getting an apple watch and couldn't care less about all the carbon
neutral stuff. Of course I care about the environment, but none of
that green-washing is going to change my mind about any of these new
devices.

Siri volume very low when wearing airPods

2023-09-08 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hi,

I've had this problem for quite a while now. When I'm listening to
some media through my airPods and a text comes in I can hardly hear
siri when he reads the text. The media volume is normal and when the
airPods are disconnected siri's volume is also normal. Has anyone seen
this?

I feel like it started the iOS16 cycle but I can't be sure exactly
when. More importantly, is there a fix?

Thanks

Re: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

Braille screen input is definitely flaky in this iOS release. I have a
similar experience to what you describe where suddenly bsi will just
turn itself off in the middle of brailling. Also it seems I can't use
tabletop mode at all. The letters just will not form correctly.

Re: VoiceDream Support

The short answer is yes. Not long after VDR was sold and the
subscription model was introduced I found I could no longer download
books from bookshare. Since bookshare is only source I use with VDR
and I had never had trouble before with bookshare I wrote to support.
Like you I received no response, not even a standard your request has
been received. Last week I wrote again and pointed out that it was the
second time I was contacting them about this problem. I did get a
response along with a request for a screen shot which I provided. That
was a couple of days ago so I am waiting to see what happens next.

Re: How to take a screenshot on an SE second generation iPhone?

2023-06-02 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Maybe my brain just isn't in gear today because I am usually better
with technology. But I saved the screen shot to files, but I still
can't figure out how to get it into the email string that I already
have going with the VDR developer.

Sorry I'm so dense today.

Thanks Rob and Richard. I have successfully taken the screen shot but
I can't figure out how to attach it to my reply to the developer. I
could start a completely new email but I wanted to respond in the
email thread we already have going. Can you help?

Thanks

Re: smart locks

2023-05-28 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hi Mike,

Schlage is the brand we like but I don't remember the model. Just be
sure that the one you are looking at has a keypad not a touch screen.
They make both types. We dealt with a company called Dorr Locks
Direct. You might get the lock slightly cheaper from amazon, but this
company has excellent customer service. I called at one point and the
person seemed to really know what they were talking about and was very
helpful in getting me the right lock for my situation.

I hope this helps.

The ones we have use double a batteries so as long as the batteries
are good you can let yourself in via the keypad regardless of the
state of the wifi. A physical key is also included in the box so
failing everything else you can get in the old fashion way.

Re: smart locks

2023-05-26 Thread Kimberly Gardner
This is a great explanation of the wonder that is a smart lock. We
installed our first smart lock nearly ten years ago when our
granddaughter (who was a teen at the time) kept loosing her door key.
After the third replacement key we went with the smart lock and have
never looked back. We also have a special code set up for our house
cleaners who come every two weeks and that code works only on the day
they are scheduled.

Re: New credit card not showing in apple pay

2023-05-21 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hi Mark,

No, or not exactly. When I open the wallet on my phone I see the new
card listed. But when I access apple pay under settings that card is
nowhere in evidence. It's perplexing.

I want to make the new card my default for apple pay, but if I can't
even see it listed ... well, you see the problem.

New credit card not showing in apple pay

2023-05-20 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hello all,

Last night I added a new credit card to apple pay, or I thought I did.
I even received an email that said it was added. But when I go into
apple pay on my iPhone the new card isn't there. Any idea what's going
on?

Thanks,
Kim

Re: Why does the wallet app show in two different places on my iPhone?

2023-04-19 Thread Kimberly Gardner
That helps a lot. Of course the fact that I think it's kind of stupid
and confusing is a whole different topic.

So here's a related question. If I have an app that I can only get to
via the app library, but I would like to put it in a folder -- mainly
because I'm just more comfortable doing things that way. How would I
get it out of the library and into a folder? That looks like a dumb
question as I'm typing it but I would still like to know.

Thanks

Re: alarm app that will sound through earpods

2023-04-18 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I think that would depend quite a lot on how much you move around at
night. I always listen to an audiobook as I'm falling asleep. I lay on
my side with only one ear-bud in on the side not facing the pillow and
usually when I wake up he ear-bud is still in place. Now not
strangling yourself with the wire might be more of a concern but that
hasn't happened to me yet either.

Re: PLEASE DO DO REPORT to Apple - nolonger possible to manage subscriptions under the hood updates of Apple become more and more a drama for VIPS

2023-03-04 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I've done all the thingds you suggest but I am still having the issue
where I am unable to swipe through my subscriptions. As someone else
described when I attempt to swipe right the focus just bounces back to
the first subscription name. The only way I can move from one to the
next is to drag my finger down the screen. I will be reporting to
apple accessibility. I'm running the latest iOS on an SE 2nd
generation.

Re: Issue with most Recent update of Audible app

2023-03-04 Thread Kimberly Gardner
The Audible app is definitely sluggish on my SE 2nd gen phone.

If you look under the profile tab there is a link for help and
support. Swipe down the list of frequently asked topics and you will
find a link for contacting audible.

Saving a file in voice dream writer -- on the phone rather in the cloud

2022-12-23 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction as I don't have
a lot of experience using VDW. I have a file I saved in the iCloud
drive which is fine. But is it possible to save a copy locally on my
iPhone so I can work on it when I am not connected to wifi? I'm
thinking of while I'm on the plane and my phone is in airplane mode.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Is it me or is this a bug in Apple Music?

2022-12-16 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Mary,

This is a known bug for VO users. I've seen it myself more than once.
This is how I get around it. I first tap the new playlist button. The
name field is blank at this point and you can type whatever name you
want. Next I tap the add music button and add the first song and any
additional songs subsequently. Another thing to note is that as you
type the name of the playlist you won't hear your letters echoed by
VO.

Please report this issue to apple accessibility. Hopefully they will
eventually fix it.

I hope this helps.

Are my airPods charging? How to tell

2022-12-15 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hello,

As a blind person, is there any way for me to tell whether my airPods
are charging? When I look at them under settings all I see is the
status at the time I plugged them in. I'm guessing there's a light on
the case, but is there some other way to know?

Thanks

Re: Qardio Base X Scale and app

2022-12-14 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I have the original QardioBase scale, not the newer model. But yes,
there is a vibration when you step on the scale then a second
vibration when your weight registers.I haven't experienced any delay
in getting the measurement on the app. The app is okay in terms of
accessibility, though the previous version was better in my opinion.

I hope this is helpful.

Re: Bard app not keeping my place

2022-12-13 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I wasn't part of the beta testing, but personally I would have
preferred to wait for the new features while they addressed the sleep
timer/losing place issue. I can't imagine anyone who actually uses the
bard app feeling that totally losing your place is at all acceptable.
To my mind that would be like closing a print book without a bookmark
and telling the reader, "just try to remember which page you were on."

Anyway, rant over. Thanks for the info.

Does your pharmacy charge you extra for the labels? I spoke to someone

I have always had it done by apple. The last time it cost $49 and took
2 hours at the local store.

Unable to rename a playlist in apple music

2022-10-09 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hi all,

I think this problem has been around for a couple of iOS releases now.

Using voiceover on my iPhone, I am unable to edit/change the title of
playlists. It doesn't matter if it is a playlist I created myself or a
new playlist I am attempting to create. I double tap the field
containing the name of the playlist I am unable to navigate by
character or to delete whatever name is in the field. By positioning
the cursor at the beginning of the field I am able to type additional
characters in front of any existing text, but I can't otherwise edit
the name.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? It makes managing my
playlists really difficult.

Thanks for any info.

I don't know how to charge my airpods pro 2nd gen

2022-09-23 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hi all,

I just got my first airpods. They are the pro 2nd generation. I feel
dumb asking this but how do I charge them? The cable that comes with
the airpods (I don't have a wireless charger) doesn't look like it
will fit any of the charging bricks either. Am I missing something? Do
I need to buy yet another charger?

Any help appreciated.

Re: A concern about iPhone 12 and battery

2022-09-08 Thread Kimberly Gardner
My iPhone is a few months older than yours and I just had the battery
replaced. I had to call Apple tech support and have them run some
diagnostics then they made an appointment for me at a nearby apple
store to have the battery replaced. It cost something like $49 and now
my battery life is much better. I did this because I was pretty sure I
was not going to get a new phone this year and I'm glad I did. Hoping
I can get another two years out of this phone.

Re: Activating the BARD mobile app

2022-08-24 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I've had a similar problem except in the opposite way. That my bard
app access is fine but I can't sign in to bard on my laptop. And yes,
I too am using the same credentials. I haven't found a ssolution
because when I try to change the password I get a message that says my
email isn't associated with any account. That indicates to me that the
problem is within bard, but I have no clue what that issue might be.

Anyway, I guess that isn't helpful except to say that isn't just you.

Re: Accessible appliances Stove

2022-03-23 Thread Kimberly Gardner
We have a stove from the Cafe line as well and I absolutely love it.
The iPhone app works okay but could be better. I have my stove
connected to my echo and, as has already been pointed out, as long as
you can press that remote enable button everything works like a dream
-- most of the time anyway. But these stoves are quite pricey.

Re: Accessibility issue with the Alexa app:

2022-01-07 Thread Kimberly Gardner
I got around this issue with one of the methods Mike described
earlier. Just to revisit: I opened the Alexa app and tapped the
devices tab. The impassable screen appeared and I then turned off VO
and tapped approx 3 quarters of an inch above the home button and when
I turned VO back on I was past that annoying screen with the got it
button that voiceover doesn't recognize.

Thanks Mike for this work-around.

Re: iPhone onscreen keyboard not working after braille display connected

2021-12-17 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Have you tried forgetting the braille display to see if the keyboard
reappears? I had a similar issue some time ago with a bluetooth
keyboard which corrected after forgetting and repairing the offending
device.

Re: IOS 15

2021-11-16 Thread Kimberly Gardner
It doesn't seem to matter whether there are other apps running or if
mail is the only app in the app switcher. Apparently the mail
retrieval problem is an actual thing because there are various
solutions proposed all around the net so I know I'm not the only one
who is having this issue. But shutting down my phone every time (or
nearly every time) I want to read my mail is really annoying. There
are times when, no matter what I do, my mail simply will not download.

I have reported this to Apple and hopefully they can reproduce it and
address it in a future update. But it is sufficiently annoying that I
wish I had not updated.

Re: IOS 15

2021-11-16 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Your mileage may vary, but ever since updating to iOS15 my SE 2020 has
had problems retrieving email. The problem is hit and miss in that
sometimes everything works just fine. But at least every two or three
days I need to fiddle with the phone to get email to download. By
fiddle I mean either removing mail from the app switcher or completely
shutting down the phone. It's not what I would call show-stopping --
not for me anyway -- but it is inconvenient and annoying.

I know that not everyone has this issue and, like I said, it isn't
reproducable with any consistency. But just something to think about.
