In 2009 I bought the first iPod Touch with VoiceOver, the 3rd generation.
At that time, the normal battery life was maybe 5 hours of use.
But, if you were listening to audio, while the device was locked, you could get
40 hours.
I tested that very soon as I had ripped most of my CD collection into iTunes so
I had probably 60 hours of music.
I select songs, shuffle all, and started it playing.
I plugged in headphones, so I wouldn’t hear it all the time while I was
working, etc.
I checked the battery after 36 hours and it was at 20%.

That is still true. If you are playing audio, or video for that matter, and
lock the phone, you get far greater battery life.

Whether that has to do with the screen brightness or not, I don’t know, but
probably not as having the device locked does more than just blank the screen.

I know with my new SE 2020, with screen brightness set to auto and leaving the
screen curtain on, I get a full day and more depending on usage, but I use it a
lot every day for books, email, reading news, searching the web, etc.
Yesterday, from 100% in the morning, it was at about 50% when I went to bed.
It doesn’t lose much at all over night, maybe 1 or 2%.

You are getting really good battery life. Thanks for the help. I do see a

A quick iPhone battery question

2020-07-16 Thread bentleyj1952
Hi all,

If I set my iPhone screen brightness to zero, will my screen use zero
battery power? Or, will I save more battery power if the screen is locked?

Thanks,

James B

Hi,

It determines whether battery status is shown as a percentage or as a series of

Hi all,

In IOS 13.5.1, in settings, under battery, there is a switch that turns
battery percentage on and off. What does this do?

Is it turned on or off by default?

Cheers,

Re: battery question

2019-06-11 Thread Wayne Merritt
Another tip for good phone performance is go into Settings, General,
and Background App Refresh. Toggle all of the apps you don't want to
run in the background to off. Also, go into Privacy and Location
Services and disable GPS for all of the apps that don't need it. I try
to do this every few months and have been able to have good battery
performance on my iPhone 8 Plus.

Re: battery question

2019-06-10 Thread Gordon
It might be a good idea to calibrate your battery since you have it
plugged in most of the time. the way to do this is to run your battery
all the way down until the phone shuts down. Then let it set for about
20 minutes and put it on the charger and let it charge fully uninterrupted.

Hi all.  I have an IPhone 7 running IOS 12.3.2 or whatever the latest
update is.  It’s about 2 and a half years old.  I’m noticing that my
battery drops quickly from 100 percent to 20 percent before the end of
the day with minimal use.  I suspect that I need to replace the
battery which I’m more than willing to do.  My concern is that I
notice that the phone is warm, not hot, when I use it and sometimes
when it’s just sitting around.  I’m re-calibrating the battery hoping
that I can get  a little better usage until I’m able to get to a
batteries plus store to replace it.  Is this getting warm stuff
something I should be concerned about?  I hope this makes sense.
Thanks for all your advice and information.

Re: battery question

2019-06-10 Thread Gordon
Your battery is degraded, so it's putting more pressure on it for every
day tasks. A little warm probably wont hurt much, but I would let it
rest if it gets to hot. One thing you can do is close apps in the app
switcher and clear your memory. To clear the active memory on the iPhone
7, hold down the power button as if you were going to turn the phone
off. When the power off comes up, let go of the power button and press
and hold the home button until voice over speaks again. This will clear
your active memory and take some pressure off of your degraded battery.
So lets see where your battery is. Go to settings and then battery. Then
go to battery health and see what the percentage is. If its close to or
below 80 percent, then it's time to replace that battery.

Re: battery question

2019-06-10 Thread dani pagador
Hi, Paula.
I went in to my local Apple store to check on a battery problem
similar to yours. The phone warmth isn't something I'd be concerned
about. The Apple tech person did a few tests and determined that there
was a battery charging problem, and we also found out that the battery
was starting to swell. The tech was willing to replace my phone with
the same model for the cost of replacing the battery.

HTH,
Dani

Yes, the battery replacement program ends at the end of this year. They haven't
specified dates though. If memory serves me right, your phone doesn't have to
fail apple's diagnostics in order to get the battery replaced. Kelly, have you
tried to have mail fetch less frequently? Go to settings then accounts and
passwords, and hit fetch new data.

No, I have carefully checked my Settings and I have almost everything disabled
in Background App refresh and in Location Services everything is as it was. I
have also made no changes otherwise and can confirm that at times the mail app
does seem to use up a lot of battery. During the beta cycle I have also seen
the home screen, the Phone app and SIRI show a lot of battery usage even though
I had not made a lot of calls or used SIRI all that often. The interesting
thing is that most apps or services which showed a lot of battery usage are
Apple apps and services and that to me is concerning.
I have done multiple regular reboots, tried a few hard reboots and Reset
Network Settings and while it’s a bit better now I think it’s still worse than
before and I often have little battery left at the end of a day and that is on
an iPhone 6S Plus where I used to get two days with similar usage patterns.
I do plan to do a full reset of the phone at some point, maybe this weekend,
and set up as a new phone. I think every couple of years doing this is not a
bad idea and I don’t usually keep lots of text message history, all my pictures
go to iCloud and I don’t even store music on my phone any more locally. One of
the most annoying things when I set up as a new phone is the work I have to set
up my mail accounts, log back in to all the other accounts/services I use such
as Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp, my Netatno Weather station, Alexa and other home
automation products we use such as thermostat, lights and lock and so on. Of
course there is rearranging the apps the way I want and creating the folders I
want, nothing is particular difficult but all is time consuming and I bet it’s
going to take 2 to 3 hours to get it all done.

Hi Bill,

Only 175 miles away? That’s an afternoon drive for many up here in northern
British Columbia.

I will probably take advantage of the battery replacement for my 6S Plus and
my wife’s 6S. Fortunately we have to go to Calgary at the end of May so I
will make an appointment with one of the two Apple Stores there. Otherwise
my closest Apple Store is in Vancouver which is about 720 miles away from

Have any of you guys with an iPhone 6 who have installed iOS 11.3

Only 175 miles away? That’s an afternoon drive for many up here in northern

I will probably take advantage of the battery replacement for my 6S Plus and

will make an appointment with one of the two Apple Stores there. Otherwise
my closest Apple Store is in Vancouver which is about 720 miles away from

Have any of you guys with an iPhone 6 who have installed iOS 11.3 checked
the Battery Health section to see how much capacity is left? Just curious.

I called into Apple (800-MyApple or 800-692-7753). The support associate asked

determined that the charge cycles had been exhausted and the only resolution

If you are, like me, too far away from an Apple store you will be given the
option of sending your iPhone 6 in to Apple for battery replacement. If you
are fortunate enough to live relatively near an Apple store or certified repair
center you will be able to take your iPhone to the nearest store or repair

The caveat to all this is that there be no damage to your iPhone other than
that customarily occurring with normal use and care.

2018-04-07 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Chris, I know that this sounds almost unbelievable; however, my 6 was back
in my hand in less than 48 hours from the time I took it into Fed X.
Furthermore, I was supplied with a tracking number, an email when the phone was
received, another when it was out for shipping, and a third when it was out for
delivery. I have never gotten such prompt and thorough service previously.

Perhaps I should mention that I do not know to where my 6 was shipped for
service. I had initially called Apple Care and was emailed an RMA number and
told to take just the phone and that RMA number to Fed X who did the rest
including the boxing of the phone for shipment.

just the iOS. Perhaps the update enabled some settings that people have

I found during the beta cycle of iOS 11.3 that battery life was also worse for
my iPhone 6S Plus. Towards the end of the beta and now with the public release
it seems a bit better, but I also did a Reset Network Settings which often can
help. I would recommend you go to Settings > General > Reset Network Settings
and do that. Keep in mind that you will have to reconnect to any WiFi networks
after that which includes entering the password. Also, If your phone's name
includes your name, e.g. Jan's iPhone, you have to go into Settings > General >
About and fix that again, doing a reset network settings will change It to
simply "iPhone".

Subject: iPhone 6 battery question

Hello,

Ever since I upgraded to 1103, my battery life is terrible! For example, this
morning I had a battery status of 82 percent. I made 2 short phone calls
during the day, and for the rest of the day, my phone was on stand by, in other
words, the screen was locked. At nine this evening, my battery showed 7
percent. I have gone into mail, notifications, and everything I can think of.
Is anyone else who uses an iPhone 6 having the same issues? Any suggestions is
greatly appreciated.

Jan

RE: iPhone 6 battery question

2018-04-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Bill,

Only 175 miles away? That’s an afternoon drive for many up here in northern
British Columbia.
I will probably take advantage of the battery replacement for my 6S Plus and my
wife’s 6S. Fortunately we have to go to Calgary at the end of May so I will
make an appointment with one of the two Apple Stores there. Otherwise my
closest Apple Store is in Vancouver which is about 720 miles away from the
little town where we live.
Have any of you guys with an iPhone 6 who have installed iOS 11.3 checked the
Battery Health section to see how much capacity is left? Just curious.

I have an iPhone 6 that will be sent into Apple for a battery replacement for
the discount offer. I have to send it in because I live in northern Wisconsin
and the nearest Apple Store is about 175 miles away.

I called into Apple (800-MyApple or 800-692-7753). The support associate asked
that I turn off “Find My iPhone” so remote diagnostics could be run and he
determined that the charge cycles had been exhausted and the only resolution
was to have a new battery installed. I suggest you call into Apple and see if
remote diagnostics reveals that your battery is likewise exhausted.

If you are, like me, too far away from an Apple store you will be given the
option of sending your iPhone 6 in to Apple for battery replacement. If you
are fortunate enough to live relatively near an Apple store or certified repair
center you will be able to take your iPhone to the nearest store or repair
center and get the spent battery replaced for the discount price of $29.00.

The caveat to all this is that there be no damage to your iPhone other than
that customarily occurring with normal use and care.

RE: Please, I need info about this particular model - external battery question.

2015-11-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You won't go wrong with any of the Anker batteries, they are very good and
consistently get very high ratings. The particular battery you provided a link
for has all the information you are asking for in the description. For example,
it says:

The Apple Connection: This 3ft Lightning cable charges your Apple gear via a
super slim connector head. MFI certification means it will sync, too, no
problem.
The included Lightning cable does not fit Lifeproof iPhone 6 cases, but fits
the vast majority of other cases.

I also do not want a case with built-in battery, I have been fine with Otterbox

Since the battery I am asking about is not available here in Slovakia and I

I know stores have policy of returning products in case customers do not like

I know I should ask sellers to provide this info, and I will certainly do that,
but as there are various cases available on the market, sellers might not know.
So it will be kind of risky to buy the battery without knowing these things.
I will be grateful for any kind of help/advice/suggestion.
Thank you very much in advance.

RE: External Battery Question That I've Purchased?

2015-07-07 Thread Dean Martineau
This relates to how many times you can charge the device, not how fast it
charges. So if you run the phone down, you can ostensibly charge it x number
of times back to full capacity, depending on the size of the device.

Subject: External Battery Question That I've Purchased?

Hi, list.

I gotta question about the external battery that I have purchased for my
Iphone6 Plus. It is:

“Aukey External Battery Pack Portable Power Bank Charger 1mAh for iPad Air,
4, 3, 2, iPad Mini, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 plus, iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S; Samsung

Galaxy S5, S4, S3, Note 3, 2; LG G3, G2; HTC M8; Nexus 7, 5, 4; Motorola Moto
X, Moto G; Google Glass and other USB Charging Devices (1.5A Input for fast

charging, 1+2.1A Dual Output).”

In the product description, it says:

10,000 mAh of capacity, 5V 3.1A (max) output, the Aukey A2 is able to charge
the iPhone at least five+ times and large-capacity phones like the Galaxy

S4 two+ times.

What does it mean?

“the Aukey A2 is able to charge the iPhone at least five+ times ….”

Does it mean charging 5-time faster, like, in 24 minutes instead of 2 hours? Or
does it mean that the battery would last 5-times longer, like 15 hours instead
of 3 hours?

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

External Battery Question That I've Purchased?

2015-07-06 Thread Fazil
Hi, list.

I gotta question about the external battery that I have purchased for my
Iphone6 Plus. It is:

"Aukey External Battery Pack Portable Power Bank Charger 1mAh for iPad
Air, 4, 3, 2, iPad Mini, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 plus, iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S;
Samsung

Galaxy S5, S4, S3, Note 3, 2; LG G3, G2; HTC M8; Nexus 7, 5, 4; Motorola
Moto X, Moto G; Google Glass and other USB Charging Devices (1.5A Input for
fast

charging, 1+2.1A Dual Output)."

In the product description, it says:

10,000 mAh of capacity, 5V 3.1A (max) output, the Aukey A2 is able to charge
the iPhone at least five+ times and large-capacity phones like the Galaxy

S4 two+ times.

What does it mean?

"the Aukey A2 is able to charge the iPhone at least five+ times .."

Does it mean charging 5-time faster, like, in 24 minutes instead of 2 hours?
Or does it mean that the battery would last 5-times longer, like 15 hours
instead of 3 hours?

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Rose, I'm so sorry to hear that Tommy passed on. With all his medical issues
though, the good Lord is by far a better care giver and I suspect he's a lot
happier. On the other hand, may God grant you peace at your loss.

The 5S supposedly has longer battery life. However, new features and
functions drink power. For example, auto app refresh brings down the
battery as updates to apps are downloaded. the 5s also has two
processors instead of one, each working independently on different
tasks.

Re: Thinking about a new iPhone and have a battery question

2014-05-30 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
I'd definitely make people aware that a new iPhone may be coming out
this fall or even sooner, but it's up to each person to decide whether
they should wait or not. I bought my iPhone in April, and although I
could have waited four or five months when the new iPhone was announced,
that would have been another four months I wasn't using an iPhone.

Re: Thinking about a new iPhone and have a battery question

2014-05-30 Thread Kelly Pierce
The 5S supposedly has longer battery life. However, new features and
functions drink power. For example, auto app refresh brings down the
battery as updates to apps are downloaded. the 5s also has two
processors instead of one, each working independently on different
tasks.

Of course, the other thing is the WWDC next week. After any announcements are

RE: Thinking about a new iPhone and have a battery question

2014-05-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Joseph,

How long your battery will last is such a subjective thing and depends on so
many variables that it's hard to say. I went from a 4S to a 5S last fall and
found it to be very much the same, not worse, maybe a touch better. Of
course you have to keep in mind that your 4S battery is probably 2 or 2 and
a half years old depending on whether you got the 4S right after release or
not. This means a new 5S may very well last a bit longer.

Re: back up battery question

2014-05-13 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, a good rule of thumb with many of these is to charge it over night
and you will be good for the next time you want to use it. Consider that
an iPhone battery is around 1500 mah, an iPad mini battery around 6000
mah, and I think an iPad air around 7000 mah, although someone will
correct me if I'm wrong. Or you can find the actual specs on Apple's web
site. Based on these figures, if you have a 6000 mah battery bank, you
can charge your phone at least 3 times, maybe a 4th, and an iPad around
once. Also remember that an iPad uses battery differently than an
iPhone. For example, my ipad mini is mainly used for book reading, music
listening and podcast listening. I use it for Skype and Facetime as well
while it's on the stand from Anker, just like my portable batteries are
from Anker. In any case, the iPhone because it has the cellular part,
will go through battery faster, plus it doesn't have as much miliamp
hours as an iPad.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I recommend any of the Anker batteries, if you look for "Anker
external battery" on Amazon you find a bunch of them. There are, of
corse, a multitude of other brands, but Anker gets consistently very
high ratings and their batteries cover pretty much the entire
spectrum from small, about lipstick sized batteries which give you
enough juice if you run out to make a couple of calls to large units
which allow you to charge an iPhone 4, 5 or even 6 times.

There are some brands which have hardwired connections like a Micro
USB, Mini USB and maybe a 30-Pin or Lightning connector, but most of
the batteries and I believe all of the Anker models would just have
a USB port so you just use your standard Apple cable which means you
can easily plug it in without removing the phone from the Otterbox case.

No, not for external batteries. I'm thinking of getting one of the limeade one
for my parents. They have a few iPhones and iPads. Does anybody know the
battery capacity of an iPad? I know it changes quite a bit from generation to
generation. I think they have a first and second generation. Also, where can
they find out the generation of their iPads, for purposes of figuring out how
much battery capacity they have?

Re: back up battery question

2014-05-10 Thread Arnold Schmidt
How do I know when one of these batteries is fully charged? I know there was
a My Charge battery with speech to let one know its charge state, but I thought
it was way over priced.

  Hi,

I recommend any of the Anker batteries, if you look for "Anker external
battery" on Amazon you find a bunch of them. There are, of corse, a multitude
of other brands, but Anker gets consistently very high ratings and their
batteries cover pretty much the entire spectrum from small, about lipstick
sized batteries which give you enough juice if you run out to make a couple of
calls to large units which allow you to charge an iPhone 4, 5 or even 6 times.

There are some brands which have hardwired connections like a Micro USB, Mini
USB and maybe a 30-Pin or Lightning connector, but most of the batteries and I
believe all of the Anker models would just have a USB port so you just use your
standard Apple cable which means you can easily plug it in without removing the
phone from the Otterbox case.

  Regards,

  Sieghard

Hi, all. I have a friend who has an IPhone 5 with an otterbox case. She's
interested in purchasing a back up battery or case with battery. What would be
best for her to get? She doesn't want to remove her phone from the otterbox.
Thanks.

Re: back up battery question

2014-05-09 Thread Alan Paganelli
Then your friend would be best off with a battery charger that lets her use her
sync/data cable. The chargers use a USB port. As an example, I have an 1800
mAh battery charger. It has a swing out wall prongs that goes in the wall
outlet. There are 2 USB ports. All she would do would be to plug her
sync/data cable in to her iPhone and the other end into the charger and press
the power button to start recharging. An 1800 mAh battery will recharge a dead
iPhone 1 time. The 2 USB ports let you recharge 2 devices at once but of
course charging then is slower.

These kinds of chargers come in all kinds of flavors depending on how many
devices you want to recharge and how much capacity you need. Some folks have a
pocket full of junk. iPhone, Bluetooth ear peace, portable Bluetooth speaker
etc.

RE: back up battery question

2014-05-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi,

I recommend any of the Anker batteries, if you look for "Anker external
battery" on Amazon you find a bunch of them. There are, of corse, a
multitude of other brands, but Anker gets consistently very high ratings and
their batteries cover pretty much the entire spectrum from small, about
lipstick sized batteries which give you enough juice if you run out to make
a couple of calls to large units which allow you to charge an iPhone 4, 5 or
even 6 times.

There are some brands which have hardwired connections like a Micro USB,
Mini USB and maybe a 30-Pin or Lightning connector, but most of the
batteries and I believe all of the Anker models would just have a USB port
so you just use your standard Apple cable which means you can easily plug it
in without removing the phone from the Otterbox case.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi, all. I have a friend who has an IPhone 5 with an otterbox case. She's

Re: Battery question

2013-08-10 Thread Andy Baracco
Battery meters have a margin for error. Perhaps the level was less than 6%.
Also, perhaps there has to be a certain amount of charge left to sustain
operation and prevent damage to the device.

RE: Battery question

2013-08-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
On a 3GS I am not so surprised that maybe the battery doesn't work as good
as it used to, after all, the phone is 4 years old and everybody I know who
has a 3GS does not get very good battery life any more.

Shane, you don't say which phone you have, but there are so many factors
involved like how warm it was, what were you doing at the time etc. I would
not worry about it too much, Just charge it with the phone locked over night
so it's definitely at 100%, then maybe run it down all the way again until
the phone shuts off by itself and repeat the full charge. After that charge
it when you get the 20% or at least 10% warming unless you absolutely don't
have a chance to charge it and it runs lower, but for the most part it is
better to charge the new batteries more often and to not let them run all
the way down except maybe once every month or 2.

Re: Background apps draining battery question

2012-12-22 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Keith,

As I understand it, and app is completely closed if it isn't in the app
switcher, so it can't drain the battery. However, if you set up mail to do
push, for example, it will check for mail frequently, thus using battery. You
might check to see which apps send you push notifications and turn that feature
off for apps you don't care about. Also, some apps check your location
frequently. If you set up a location-based reminder, for example, such as
reminding you to do something when you leave the current location, it will
check frequently to see whether you've left that location.

Re: Bluetooth and Battery question

2012-11-25 Thread Jan Stirbens
Hello,

I now own the Voyager PRO+ bluetooth headset. I have had it for a year, and it
is starting not to hold a complete charge. When new, I could get 6 hours talk
time from a full charge. Now, when fully charged, I only get 4 hours talk
time. I was hoping to find a blue tooth headset that I could replace the
battery instead of having to purchase a new headset every year.

RE: Bluetooth and Battery question

2012-11-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Jan,,

I doubt you will find such a Bluetooth headset as they are mostly very tiny
and include a rechargeable battery which is integrated and which has to be
recharged by plugging a cable into a charging port. If you don't mind me
asking, why would you want something like that? Typically a bluetooth
headset will outlast the battery of your iPhone and you can always buy one
which uses a standard micro USB cable and use an external battery which you
can then use to charge your iPhone or your bluetooth headset. Quite a lot of
them do charge via USB, I just bought a Jabra Supreme and it comes with a
standard micro USB cable so you can use a USB wall adapter like the one that
comes with the iPhone, a laptop or external battery.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello,

Is there a bluetooth headset made where you can replace the battery?

Thank you.

Don't think so, I have used mine thus when I have had lengthy conference
calls during travel.

Can anything happen to iPhone battery by running it on the charger hooked in
the wall? I would probably use it for a couple of hours. Thanks!

Hi,

I keep my iPhone plugged in most of the time. Apple said if it gets too warm to
unplug it, but I have not had that happen.

GOD BLESS,

Wren

If it can, it's never happened to me. I sometimes use my Iphone while
charging, and have never had any problems.

  Cheers
