Re: Problem with an iBook
Mary, perhaps asking a sighted person with a knowledge of fonts and their on-screen presentation to look at the book might give clues as to why words are being spelled out. This information might not help you fix the problem, but it might serve as amunition during the refund process. Re: Problem with an iBook
Hi Anna, I had not tried your suggestions, but I just did with no joy. Speaks green spells out the letters just like voiceover did, and tapping on the image prior to starting with a two finger flick down to read all didn't do any good. I have written Apple accessibility, since I could not find any info on the refund process. Thanks for trying to help. This book is on Kindle, and they say text to speech is enabled. But of course that's not relevant for a voice over user. It is a cookbook, which is kind of why I wanted it on iBooks, for easier navigation. Oh well. Re: Problem with an iBook
Hi Mary, You've probably tried this, but in case you haven't, try tapping where it says, "Background image" and then flicking down with two fingers. I have a book with lots of background images, and it reads reasonably well when I do this. You could also see whether the Speak Screen feature works. Make sure you've turned on Speak Screen in Settings/General/Accessibility. Then ask Siri to speak the screen. I hope that helps. Re: Problem with an iBook
Thanks, Craig. It appears that the entire book that I have is showing this problem. I have not looked at every page, but I have looked at several throughout the book, and they all have the same thing. I guess I will have to try to find out if I can get a refund for this book from Apple. Too bad, as it is one that I have really been wanting to read. It's also on Kindle, so it is kind of tempting to try it there. On the other hand, I don't want to waste another $10. Onfortunately, Mary, I have seen a couple of books that show the behavior you describe. I assume the affected pages contain images or maps. I have simply navigated beyond those pages–not a happy solution, I know. Problem with an iBook
Hi all, I have many iBooks, and I just bought the first one I have ever had a serious voiceover problem with. I have things sent to list view for the table of contents, and I select where I want to start reading. The page comes up and voiceover says background image. When I start to try to read it is very sluggish and only spells words out in letters. I tried several pages all with the same result. Has anyone ever seen a book like this? Hi i can attest to this, i recently added my card to my Apple Id, tried to make a purchase but couldn't be done at the time, contacted iTunes Support for help, turns out i had to wait at least thirty minutes before i could make a purchase, so i tried again in a few hours and it worked.
