Typically much cheaper to get insurance through your home policy, I pay around
$30 or $40 Canadian a year to have my iPhone 11 added as a separate item
without deductible.
This covers damage,, loss or theft and especially a phone like the iPhone 8
which you could buy used for $200 or less in my opinion is hardly worth paying
$120 a year, but everybody has to do what they think is best.

Richard. The extended apple care is through apple not my carier which is
Verizon. What happened was when my apple care expired on June 7 of this year.
I had paid $200 for the past 2 years. After it expired, I went to settings
under my name and under apple care, a message came up. It said that I had 30
days from when my apple care expired to pay for apple care if I wanted. There
were different options, and I chose the $10 per month option. I can cancel at
any time, however, I need to be aware, that if I do cancel that is it, and I
wouldn't have apple care any more. I'll pay the $10 per now, but if I get a
new iPhone, I could either continue to pay for the apple care on my olde
iPhone, or stop.

2021-09-15 Thread Carolyn
I hold my phone in my left hand and do gestures with the right, but am
fortunate enough not to have any problems with my hands. However, I do not
think I could hold my phone in the same hand that I was using for gestures. I
don't use Siri all that much.

Diane, I will say, I've tried those wipes, and they're almost impossible for a
person to do with one hand. Cuz there are some cases where I have to hold the
phone, in the same hand that I'm doing the gesture with. I don't have that much
strength in my right hand. So that's why I prefer the phones with the home
button. And believe me me, I've tried it on my mom's 11.

Josh, is that $10 per month through your carrier?
Apple Care is only a one year extension on the waranty on a new phone.
Some carriers offer a protection plan that goes longer and costs a lot more
when you add it up over time.

I vote for that, as long as I don't have a Home Button again. I'd rather not go
back to that, but if I had to, I guess I could get used to it.

Yeah Carolyn,

I'm kind of in the same mindset,

But it doesn't matter what you do today,

We all know that there will be something better out tomorrow,

But hey,
Face and touch id under screen would be nice.

I kind of want to replace my 11, but hearing that the 14 could offer the choice
of touch or facial ID makes me a little more patient. Too, by then, I will be
moved, and it will be easier for my daughter-in-love to take me to phone
stores, where I might change back to Verizon.

I totally think I t's fine for people to hold on to older phones, but at the
same time I am not a big advocate for spending money on phones like the iPhone
6 or even the 7 or 8. Instead of spending $79 for a new battery you could have
probably sold it for $79 and used the $160 towards a newer phone which supports
the latest version of iOS. Just my opinion.

My iPhone 8 is doing just fine. I pay $10 per month for apple
care, so when I need a new battery, it won't cost me a thing. I
have had my iPhone 8 for just over 2 years. I so regret not
getting an iPhone 11 pro with 512 gigs of storage when I had the
chance. I will wait for the iPhone 14. It will give me a chance
to keep saving up money so I'll be able to purchase the iPhone 14
outright with no contract to worry about. I'd have plenty of space
on my 256 gig iPhone 8, if I hadn't filled it up with audio books.
If only NLS would let you sync your bard books from one phone to another
 via iCloud.

Apple assigns the same battery life to the 7, 8 and SE2. The 13 Pro
max has a battery life 137 percent greater than the 7, 8 and SE-2.
This equates to 40 continuous hours of on-device audio playback to 95
for the 13 Pro Max.

A lot, lot, lot bigger. Like at least twice the size. But that doesn't
necessarily equate to battery life, as it does have a bigger screen, it
will have higher refresh rate, etc. etc. Still, you will definitely notice
a pretty big boost in battery life. You should ask yourself whether you
want a bigger phone, or can afford the price though. I assume there is a

Let’s try this again. I sent it out before I got a chance to correct it. Those
who use the home button really do not need to be afraid of switching over and
not have the home button. It’s just a matter of sliding up or down to get what
you need to get to and it has the haptics so you will know where you’re at.
It’s not bad at all. It isn’t.

My iPhone 8 is doing just fine. I pay $10 per month for apple care,
so when I need a new battery, it won't cost me a thing. I have had my
iPhone 8 for just over 2 years. I so regret not getting an iPhone 11
pro with 512 gigs of storage when I had the chance. I will wait for
the iPhone 14. It will give me a chance to keep saving up money so
I'll be able to purchase the iPhone 14 outright with no contract to
worry about. I'd have plenty of space on my 256 gig iPhone 8, if I
hadn't filled it up with audio books. If only NLS would let you sync

I kind of want to replace my 11, but hearing that the 14 could offer the

I totally think I t's fine for people to hold on to older phones, but at the
same time I am not a big advocate for spending money on phones like the
iPhone 6 or even the 7 or 8. Instead of spending $79 for a new battery you
could have probably sold it for $79 and used the $160 towards a newer phone
which supports the latest version of iOS. Just my opinion.

iPhones that need to use some form of 3G coverage are the 5S and earlier. The
iPhone 6 and later can stay on carrier networks for the foreseeable future.

I have an iPhone 7 and plan to upgrade to the 13. The big reason is that I want
a Mini and the iPhone 13 will be the last mini. Apple does a lot better with
hardware after the first generation, which is why I sat out the 12 Mini. If I
were not eager for a smaller sized phone, I would just replace the battery.
With the 13, I will get a faster processor and significantly improved 5g as
well as double the storage for the same price. Battery life is another
consideration. The new iPhone 13 mini has a battery life that is 38 percent
longer than the iPhone 7, 8 or SE second generation. The regular iPhone 13 has
a battery life that is 89 percent more than the 7, 8 or SE-2.

While Apple is treading water with the iPhone 13, five years of innovation will
feel like I am entering a new era.

2021-09-14 Thread Diane Giannetti
Joseph, I did not realize, for sure, but you have a problem with your hands I
can understand. I wasn’t certain about what you could do with voice control as
I have never tried it, but they say that is good. Not sure however. But anyway,
I did not want to imply that I was telling people what to do and what not to do
as everybody has a right to their own choice in opinion. I was just expressing
mine in for those that were afraid to not be. Andy, sorry if you felt that I
was doing that.

2021-09-14 Thread Richard Turner
Joseph,
You bring up a good point for people who may not have the dexterity to do the
swipes for home, app switcher, control center, and notification center.

I had the 11 when I was working and hadn’t thought to try the gestures with one
hand.

If you get to the point where you have no choice, could you hold the phone in
your left and do the gestures with your right? The gestures don’t take much
strength, but they do take control. If you don’t have the control to do a
steady swipe, then that will be a definite argument to Apple to keep a home
button of some kind.

You can, right now, tell Siri, Go to the home screen, and it will.
I suspect there are commands in Voice Control that will do the rest, app
switcher, control center, and notification switcher.
I hope, for your sake, it doesn’t come to that point.

I totally think I t's fine for people to hold on to older phones, but
at the

same time I am not a big advocate for spending money on phones like the

iPhone 6 or even the 7 or 8. Instead of spending $79 for a new battery
you

could have probably sold it for $79 and used the $160 towards a newer
phone

which supports the latest version of iOS. Just my opinion.

It isn’t.

I know those of us who use the Phone with thePhone with the home button really
don’t want to get away for me because you’re so used to it and I get it. I
thought I was going to be that way but once I got a 10 hour, it was simple and
easy without the home button. Try not to be afraid Jeanette have a home button
it really isn’t the end of the world.

If only NLS would let you sync
your bard books from one phone to another via iCloud.

I totally think I t's fine for people to hold on to older phones, but at
the

same time I am not a big advocate for spending money on phones like the
iPhone 6 or even the 7 or 8. Instead of spending $79 for a new battery you
could have probably sold it for $79 and used the $160 towards a newer
phone

which supports the latest version of iOS. Just my opinion.

Josh, is that $10 per month through your carrier?
Apple Care is only a one year extension on the waranty on a new phone.
Some carriers offer a protection plan that goes longer and costs a lot more
when you add it up over time.

Yeah and some of the most well covered countries for cellular connectivity are
those some would call third world countries in the middle of Africa,

Because they took all the old tech from countries like the USA UK

Etc all that have money to upgrade,

And implemented mobile networks at very low cost for the users,

But because the technology is older

They have higher mobile coverage.

It may be coming to an end in our rich countries, but possibly not in many
other parts of the world. When I was in Thailand in 2013 I often still showed
Edge as my connection which basically was 2G, granted that is now 8 years ago,
but in the Philippines you often only get 3G and that is even in places in and
around Manila, a metro area of over 14 Million people.

Richard, have you already started in on the wine? Of course the iPhone 8
supports 4G/LTE. Even my first iPhone 4 in 2010 supported LTE at least I am
almost sure and definitely the 4S did in 2011. And it will be a very long time
before 4G/LTE gives way to 5G by which I mean it will be a long time until only
5G is available although I have a feeling that maybe 4G will hang on for a
shorter time than 3G has been hanging on at least here in North America, Europe
and countries like Australia and New Zealand. Once 5G really kicks off and is
available nation wide there will be no going back. But for now even that is not
of much concern where Mich lives which is in northern Ontario if I am not
mistaken, I am in Northern British Columbia and while 5G may be available in
Vancouver, Toronto and other large cities, it sure is nowhere in sight yet here.

I would check the issue of 3G going away.

Does your phone support 4G?

If so, you probably are fine sitting tight with what you have.

If it only supports 3G, then check with your carrier as to when 3G support will
stop.

Otherwise, only upgrade when there are new features you want, or because of the
battery life, etc.

It is around $50 US to get a new battery in most iPhones…

I totally think I t's fine for people to hold on to older phones, but at the
same time I am not a big advocate for spending money on phones like the iPhone
6 or even the 7 or 8. Instead of spending $79 for a new battery you could have
probably sold it for $79 and used the $160 towards a newer phone which supports
the latest version of iOS. Just my opinion.

They have higher mobile coverage.

event is over what about those of us who are running older phones like that? I
have been thinking of upgrading for a while but am not shure witch phone I
should upgrade to? Since beaing that I am blind I don't really cair that much
about the camra and stuff except when it comes to doing things like ocr and
stuff I just was wondering the groups thoughts? My phone is still running good
and vo is still working as it should I just was wondering about the groups
thoughts. Btw I am in Ontario Canada if that helps so some of the things like
the us carriers wouldn't really apply to my situation. I got this phone back in
2019 and we are now in 2021. From Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.

RE: now that the apple event is finnished what about those of us who still are running the older phones? I am running the i phone 8.

2021-09-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I totally think I t's fine for people to hold on to older phones, but at the
same time I am not a big advocate for spending money on phones like the iPhone
6 or even the 7 or 8. Instead of spending $79 for a new battery you could have
probably sold it for $79 and used the $160 towards a newer phone which supports
the latest version of iOS. Just my opinion.

2021-09-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

2021-09-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If your phone is running good, the battery still holds up and it does all you
want it to do then why spend the money, there are already rumours for a much
larger jump/upgrade next year, possibly the iPhone 14 will have both Touch Id
and Face Id options for unlocking/authentication and I think you are better off
saving for that than to possibly buy an iPhone 11 or 12 now because they are
going to be a better deal and even if you buy an iPhone 13 or 13 Mini then
maybe you'll kick yourself next year. iPhones are mature products and have been
for years, there is little which is "revolutionary" any more and unless you
have money to burn and it makes financially no difference to you if you spend
$1,000 or $1,200 Canadian each year on a new phone then there is nothing wrong
to keep a phone for more years. A friend of mine in Germany who could easily
afford to buy the latest Pro phone just recently gave up his old 5S because it
really was bad with battery only lasting half a day etc. But did he go out and
buy an iPhone 12 Pro? No, he bought a used iPhone 8 which ended up having
issues as well so now he bought an iPhone 12 Mini for his sighted wife who had
an SE 2020 before and he now uses her SE 2020 because he says it's fast, the
battery is good and it does all he wants it to do.
