Hi all,

My Iphone 5S mysteriously died a week or so after buying it.

it was working fine in the morning but when I got home that afternoon, it
was completely dead.

I went to a neighbors to se if they could have a look and they told me
nothing was happening when I attempted to swithc it on.

I then rang the apple store, who advised me to plug it in and also press the
home and top key for about ten seconds, although he advised me do it for 20
seconds.

Nothing hapend and so I left it plugged in for a bit. soon after, Voiceover
started talking and all seemd to be well.

Then I noticed noone could get through to me and when I visited the apple
store the next day, I discovered I had inadvertently turned on the do not
disturb feature on my phone.

Apart from that, all else was wel with my phone.

apart from my suggestion of pluggging in and holding down the two buttons on
the phone, i'm sure the other suggestion could help too.

it's rather worrying when your phone dies just like that, for no apparent
reason.

Ok, I'm sure a lot of others with more experience than I might have better
suggestions. Here are mine, though.

First, is the phone charged? I know you said you plugged it in last night?
How you might be able to tell... Does the phone vibrate when you slide the
mute/unmute switch?

If yes, then see below. If not, then if you're sure the outlet you used to
charge the phone had juice, try turning the phone power on. You'll need to
wait about thirty seconds for it to boot.

If the phone did vibrate, then somehow your voiceover got turned off, or
your volume turned down.

1. The speaker volume and earpod volume are separate. So, try plugging in
your ear pods and see if you get voiceover.

2. Tap your home button. Flick down with two fingers to get the phone to
"read" the opening screen. As soon as you do that, tap the Volume Up button
a few times. If voiceover was down, this should bring it up to an audible
level.

3. If you enabled the triple-click home option for Voiceover, try that.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

How do I get it working again? No voiceover, so I don't even know if it's on

Re: phone has died

2014-05-05 Thread Steve

I have no idea but my phone has just died. I charged it last night, and this
morning, it just isn't working.
How do I get it working again? No voiceover, so I don't even know if it's on
or off.

RE: phone has died

2014-05-05 Thread Lois Butterfield
My phone died once. I googled the problem and tried the solution I found.
Hold the power and home buttons down for about 30 seconds. After I did
that, the phone came up talking again. Apparently, this happens now and
then for no reason that anyone can figure out.

If it isn't a problem with VO volume, give it a try.

Good luck,
Lois

RE: phone has died

2014-05-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Stephanie,

One way to tell whether your phone is on or off is to flick the Mute switch
above the volume keys. If you move it towards the back of the phone which
means you are turning on Mute, the phone vibrates briefly. If it does then
it's obviously on and you can flick the switch forward again, it doesn't
vibrate when you unmute.

If you have a landline or use Skype you could always call your phone, too,
and see if it rings.

Now, as for Voiceover, it has probably somehow gone to 0 volume. I would
first plug in your wired headset and see if Voiceover works. If it does and
then it doesn't when you unplug the headset, make sure you unlock the phone
using the headset. Now unplug the headset and do a 2-finger swipe up on the
screen. This makes Voiceover start reading the content of the screen
starting at the top. Now repeatedly press the volume up button to raise the
volume of the external speaker.

Good luck,
Sieghard
