Thank you, Richard. That is very helpful to know. I will proceed to
contact the developers on both apps to see if changes can be made.

If anyone on the list is decent at programming in IOS, could you
contact me offlist? I'd like to be able to offer some type of specific
solution to see if it works, and I'm not a programmer.

Re: Seeking Your Thoughts

2014-04-27 Thread Richard Turner
I had removed the USA Today app a long time ago because it was flakey with
VoiceOver.
: just downloaded it again and you are right. I get the exact behavior you
describe.
That is not a setting on your phone.
There is clearly some kind of code in their app that is confusing VoiceOver.
It is like they are using an end of article code at the end of each paragraph.
I hear the "bong" sound like you hear when you get to the end of an article
after each sentence or paragraph.
I think if you describe that to the developer and asked them to look at how
VoiceOver behaves, they can figure it out if they want to.
Good luck,
Richard

Re: Seeking your thoughts about Calendar app

2013-08-21 Thread Raul A. Gallegos

Hi, you can do the following since you already have a gmail account.

1. Create a new shared calendar from the calendar site of google. this
is of course under your own account sign in. Call it whatever you want,
hubby-wife is a good example.

2. Invite your husband's gmail address. Assuming he has one. if not, get
him one.

3. Give him access to both read and write to this shared calendar. That
way even though its your calendar, he can see the events you post, and
he can add his own as well.

4. From your iOS devices, go to Settings, then Mail, Contacts, and
Calendar and add the calendar account. You do this by choosing Add, then
Other, then CalDAV. In the username and password you give it your own
user name and password for your gmail account. Do the same on his iOS
device, but give it his gmail user name and password. One thing to keep
in mind is if you already have your gmail account setup for mail on your
phone, go into that settings and turn off calendars. This way you have a
specific calendar entry.

5. From each of your iPhones bring safari and visit the page
https://m.google.com/sync/settings/ and sign in with your own gmail
account. This will show a list of calendars. Check the ones you want to
share. Of course you want to have the new calendar you created checked.

A few notes. The reason I suggest creating your own new calendar to
share rather than just sharing your default is because this gives you
the chance to add your own events which don't need to be shared. What if
you use your calendar for pill reminders or a reminder to take the trash
out. I would imagine that your husband doesn't need to know that you are
out taking the trash, but I'm just guessing. The same is true for him,
with his own personal calendar. Now, when you need to enter appointments
which do matter, like a doc appointment, or be ready for the lawn
service, or whatever, then you would enter those into the shared
calendar. From the iPhone settings you can make the shared calendar the
default. That way when you add new entries, by default they will go to
the shared one. This way both your and your husband have access to the
same calendar.

The steps for this seem convoluted, but really are not too bad. i also
didn't give specifics on where to go in the web site, so hopefully you
can navigate this ok. I use Firefox and Window-Eyes on Windows 7 and can
do it.

Good luck.

Hi Anna, and thanks,

Calendar setup on the phone (or iPad) is pretty straightforward.

I, too, use Siri to set up an event, though I sometimes need to edit in
order to add info to the appointment.

Have you worked with multiple calendars? VO won't read the calendar a
particular event belongs to, unless you open the event. Nor will it give
you a status update when you enable/disable a calendar's visibility. You
can make the update, but VO won't tell you whether you're turned the
calendar on or off.

I really enjoyed your iOS book, by the way.

Hi,

If you both use iCloud, one of you can set up a shared calendar. Then you
can both see any appointments either of you add to that calendar.

Best,
Anna

Re: Seeking your thoughts about Calendar app

2013-08-17 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Keeping your calendar in the cloud, such as in Google Calendar, would be
an option. Your calendar could be accessed from your iPhone, the web and
other clients. Multiple people could subscribe to the calendar and
others could be given access to update the calendar.

I'm so glad you liked my iPHone book. I'm glad you're doing one that addresses

that information to the people who need it.

I just set it up at my work. The office staff sets my appointments

I would think you would be able to use the calendar app on both the Mac and
iPhone to do this. I'm the iPhone if you go to the list view, it would just
give you a list of your clients in their order of appointment.

I wish I had an iPhone, and a Mac, back when I was doing massage. I used to
carry around a looseleaf notebook with my massages handwritten.

RE: Seeking your thoughts about Calendar app

2013-08-16 Thread Rose Combs
I have a question? I keep my own calendar and my husband his on our
separate iPhones. I never really thought about sharing them, and a good
reason is he often forgets appointments which I remember and could put in
for him if that were possible! I have not used any web calendar, just
Outlook and the iPhone and since Outlook is on our home computers, we don't
have an exchange server.

Would it be possible to do what I am suggesting? I hear all calendars but,
have never attempted to set up more than one.

Are we confused yet?

I'd like to be able to access his calendar from my phone.

Nor will it give you
a status update when you enable/disable a calendar's visibility. You can
make the update, but VO won't tell you whether you're turned the calendar on
or off.

I really enjoyed your iOS book, by the way.

Hi Anna.
That makes sense. I'll be publishing an article on the changes with
accessibility in iOS 7 the day it is released, but certainly covering
all of what you do is beyond the scope of an article. It's also cool
to see what other things people find in the new releases, since there
is no easy way to know what is new and how it impacts VoiceOver users.

Best,
Scott

Re: Seeking your thoughts about Calendar app

2013-08-16 Thread Shelly
Hi Anna, and thanks,

Calendar setup on the phone (or iPad) is pretty straightforward.

I, too, use Siri to set up an event, though I sometimes need to edit in order
to add info to the appointment.

Have you worked with multiple calendars? VO won't read the calendar a
particular event belongs to, unless you open the event. Nor will it give you a
status update when you enable/disable a calendar's visibility. You can make the
update, but VO won't tell you whether you're turned the calendar on or off.

I really enjoyed your iOS book, by the way.

Re: Seeking your thoughts about Calendar app

2013-08-16 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Shelly,

I use siri to make appointments when I can because it's faster. I have a
calendar that I share with my family, and it works well. I had some trouble
setting it up in the first place. I was using the Mac, but I think it would be
easier on the phone. But I've found looking at dates and setting appointments
to be accessible.

Best,
Anna
