RE: Strange behaviour in the native mail app in iOS15
I don't recall seeing this on the beta email list, but then again, that list was surprisingly quiet about iOS. It seemed busier about Mac and VO. Re: Strange behaviour in the native mail app in iOS15
Hello Sieghard, I have just received an e-mail and read it in the usual way. As far as I can tell there is nothing special or peculiar about this message. Having read it, I exit the message as usual, so I’m back in my inbox. Now, if I exit the mail app via Task Switcher and relaunch the mail app I am back in the message I was previously reading. As Richard suggested, I go to my home page then bring up Task Switcher, then quit mail, at next launch I’m back in the message. This behaviour persists even if I restart my iPhone. Strangely if I leave it for a while around 7 hours normal behaviour is restored. I have experienced this no matter what folder a message resides in. The other day I went into my sent messages folder and even though I then switched back to my inbox and read other messages I received, on launching the mail app the sent message was opened for me. Rather strange. I can confirm Richard's findings with my Exchange and two Outlook accounts. If I exit Mail with a message open I am returned to that message when I open Mail again even if I remove Mail from the app switcher. If I exit the message and go back to the Inbox before exiting Mail then I an returned to the Inbox and the message list. It is not usually my practice to exit the Mail app with a message open so I probably would have never noticed this, the only time I may do this is if I go to another app but want to go back to Mail and refer back to a message for some piece of information. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Malcolm Parfitt Sent: September 21, 2021 7:28 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Strange behaviour in the native mail app in iOS15 Hello Richard, I have been making extensive use of the mail app today and until now I have not experienced the issue I described. I have several imap accounts in the native mail app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. What I am about to describe does not occur with any pattern that I can identify. Some times when I read a message, exit it then quit the mail app via Task Switcher when I launch the mail app I am in the message I was previously reading. This behaviour occurs no matter what folder the message resides in. If I restart the iPhone and launch the mail app I am still placed in the message I was previously reading. The only way to resolve this is to delete the message. Obviously this is not ideal if I want to keep it. After a while, several hours launching the mail app normal behaviour is restored and I am placed in my inbox rather than being in a particular message. I have described the strange issue to the best of my ability and wonder if anyone else has experienced this. I have never had this issue in any other version of iOS other than V15. RE: Strange behaviour in the native mail app in iOS15
I did some ore testing in iOS 15 mail app. I think this new behavior is a feature, not a bug. If you close mail while a message is open, you are returned to that message. If you close the message, then press the home button to get to the home screen, then double tap the home button (or do the equivalent gesture), and close mail, when I opened mail I was just in the inbox, not in an open message. If, however, I closed the email, and immediately double tapped home and close mail out of the app switcher, when I open mail again, I'm back in that last message I had read. So, apparently, they are trying to help you keep track of where you were. Not a feature I particularly like, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple thinks of this as a feature, and not a bug. Just be sure to 1. Close the message, 2. Pres home to return to the home screen, then 3. Use the app switcher to close mail out of the app switcher. I have never had this issue in any other version of iOS other than V15. indexing upgrading RE: Strange behaviour in the native mail app in iOS15
Malcom and all others Please be aware of the fact that an update has to do major work in the background and lots of stuff in our devices should be re-indexed again. Therefore I always advise to update late in the evening or at night and then after the update, load your device up till 100% and leave it in rest all night before exploring the new ios version. Things can really be upset in the first hours or yeven voiceover voices are compact.
