Re: iTunes help needed

2014-06-26 Thread Lori Dent

Hi all,

I just wanted to give everyone an update on my iTunes situation. Well My
itunes is now working like it should be and I can now open it. As far as
importing my third CDit was imported in iTunes and it's there but, when it
was imported into iTunes the third CD wasn't in the same place as the other
2 CD's that are in this collection. The third CD was stored in another
folder called collections.

So the third CD was moved from the collections folder to the folder that the
other 2CD's are at But when I went to sync iTunes to my iPhone and sync
this third CD to my phone it didn't show up in my phone with the other 2
CD's that I successfully sync to my iPhone.

So, I tried importing 2 other CD's to itunes and then syncing with my
iPhone and the 2 other CD's were successfully transford to my iPhone.

But for some reason this third CD is giving me problems. iTunes recognizes
the third CD and itunes will play the CD but when syncing to my iPhone the
CD doesn't show up.

So that's where I'm at on this. I will try syncing the CD to my pnone again
and see if it shows up in my phone. This has become a mystry to me.

I want to thank the person and he knows who he is for taking the time to
call me and help me with this. Thanks.

2014-06-24 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Lori,

Oh my. The thought of you spending so much time trying to get iTunes up and
running, breaks my heart.

Thank you for answering my questions. In a nutshell, your answers confirm
what I had feared might be the case. In no way am I suggesting that you
cannot get iTunes up and running but you have quite a few hardware and
software challenges stacked up against you.

As rose writes in a subsequent post to this thread, you might consider
uninstalling all Apple components from your computer via the Add/Remove
Control Panel and simply reinstall iTunes.

Please note that I suggest that you first uninstall iTunes and all Apple
components. Merely installing iTunes over itself will most likely not
resolve your problem.

Also keep in mind that, from your computer's perspective, iTunes is a memory
hog--especially where screen-reading software is concerned.

Finally, please remember that none of this is your fault. You have done
absolutely nothing wrong.

Re: iTunes help needed

2014-06-24 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Let me say: Please don't let these very unfortunate experiences, the
non-opening, and the not being able to import that third cd yet,
permanently ruin your overall thinking about iTunes, or your iPhone. The
non-opening experience probably is not your fault, really, something has
gone wrong with the files on your computer that is causing your problem. I
don't know if you are one of them, but some people would let themselves be
completely put off toward iTunes by this incident happening so near the
beginning of their experience with it. Please don't let this happen to you.
Before you had this not opening problem to occur, I had written a response
to you as to how to get it to import that third cd, which I have saved in my
drafts folder. I will wait to send it, after you get iTunes working again.

RE: iTunes help needed

2014-06-24 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Lori,

I completely second Arnold's sentiment.

iTunes, even on Windows, in my never-to-be humble opinions, is one of the
most effective and easy-to-use content managers I've ever used.

In fact, when setting up new Windows computers for people, I always install
iTunes even if they do not have an iOS device. I do this because, once
understood, many find that they prefer it to some other popular
Windows-based content managers.

Hi Mark,

Yes, I know I have been getting some excellant advice. No, I haven't been
able to open up iTunes yet. I tried for most of the day and evening
yesterday to get iTunes to open up but with no luck.

I can't believe that after successfully importing 2 out of 3 of my CD's to

I would have problems doing the third CD. I thought I was doing good by
successfully importing 2 of my CD's to iTunes and then on to my phone on my

But this third and final CD and iTunes have been challenging and very

I'm not going to give up but let me tell you I tried and tried to get this

Like I've said before I know nothing about iTunes and I never use it until I
got my iPhone. I'm not that good with technology I've never used before and
iTunes was frustrating me to no end.

But I will try to keep an open mine and continue to learn how to use iTunes
once this issue is resolved.

I thought I was doing good managing to successfully put to of my three CD's

I'm glad you all are understanding and not thinking how stupid I am when
it comes to learning itunes.

Again I really do appreciate everyone's help from this list and I'm glad to
be a part of it. Take care.

RE: iTunes help needed

2014-06-23 Thread M. Taylor
Hi Lori,

You've been receiving some excellent advice on this thread.

Did you ever get iTunes to open again?

To me, there are several questions that need to be answered in order to get
you back up and running.

1.
What version of Windows are you using?

2.
Which screen reader, if any, are you using?

3.
Do you have any residual vision that you can use to see if iTunes is or is
not launching?

4.
How old is your computer?

5.
Is your computer connected to the Internet via a cable or via Wifi?

6.
Have you subscribed to any podcast via iTunes on your computer?

I realize that some of my questions may not exactly make sense to some but,
as a person who has been dealing with iTunes for Windows since early 2008, I
can tell you that they are relevant.

Sometimes, iTunes for Windows doesn't play nicely with the video drivers,
for example. As a result, the program can actually be launching but you
cannot see or act upon it via a screen reader.

I strongly urge you not to restore your Windows computer to an earlier
version if iTunes is the only program giving you problems.

Please keep in mind that if iTunes does not properly shut down, it can lock
the necessary files causing launch problems. Even a system reboot can,
sometimes, not solve this.

Based on what you've posted so far, I am not convinced this is the case.

However, if you want, you can uninstall iTunes and all its related
components from the Add/Remove control panel in Windows, if memory serves
there are 5 components, and then reinstall iTunes from scratch. To get the
latest version of iTunes for Windows, go to http://www.apple.com/itunes

Caution, if you have never uninstalled a program from your computer, be
very, very careful.

When it's all said and done, you want to be prompted with the Import Dialog
Box when you insert a CD, right? There are several ways to get this to
happen but you must understand that it is quite possible that you
inadvertently turned this feature off. You can turn it back on but you must
do so in either the iTunes preferences area or in the Windows Explorer area.
Also, it is possible that iTunes is automatically importing your CDs.

Lori, if some of this seems overwhelming, you might consider getting some
one-on-one assistance, in person.

Understand that, while iTunes for Windows and iTunes for OSX may look
similar, they are, in fact, very, very different applications in terms of
stability and how they perform with access software. I say this so that you
will not blame yourself for the problems you have encountered.

Depending upon various factors, it can take iTunes for Windows up to twenty
or more minutes to launch on certain computers with certain iTunes and
system configurations. It just depends. This is most likely not your
situation but it is possible.

It took me almost two months, way back then, to stop cursing iTunes
everytime I opened it on my Windows computer back in 2008 (smile).

Conversely, iTunes for the Mac is as sweet as Tupelo honey, Honey.

I wish you all the best.

Mark

RE: iTunes help needed

2014-06-23 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Sometimes when I open iTunes, I've been told there's a dialog box of some sort
that is silent to JAWS. I've learned to just hit Escape a few times after
starting iTunes, and I've had fewer such problems. And, at times, there's a
Dropbox Photo Transfer dialog that creeps in at times, and this is superimposed
over iTunes.

Subject: RE: iTunes help needed

Hi Lori,

You've been receiving some excellent advice on this thread.

Did you ever get iTunes to open again?

To me, there are several questions that need to be answered in order to get you
back up and running.

1.
What version of Windows are you using?

2.
Which screen reader, if any, are you using?

3.
Do you have any residual vision that you can use to see if iTunes is or is not
launching?

4.
How old is your computer?

5.
Is your computer connected to the Internet via a cable or via Wifi?

6.
Have you subscribed to any podcast via iTunes on your computer?

I realize that some of my questions may not exactly make sense to some but, as
a person who has been dealing with iTunes for Windows since early 2008, I can
tell you that they are relevant.

Sometimes, iTunes for Windows doesn't play nicely with the video drivers, for
example. As a result, the program can actually be launching but you cannot see
or act upon it via a screen reader.

I strongly urge you not to restore your Windows computer to an earlier version
if iTunes is the only program giving you problems.

Please keep in mind that if iTunes does not properly shut down, it can lock the
necessary files causing launch problems. Even a system reboot can, sometimes,
not solve this.

Based on what you've posted so far, I am not convinced this is the case.

However, if you want, you can uninstall iTunes and all its related components
from the Add/Remove control panel in Windows, if memory serves there are 5
components, and then reinstall iTunes from scratch. To get the latest version
of iTunes for Windows, go to http://www.apple.com/itunes

Caution, if you have never uninstalled a program from your computer, be very,
very careful.

When it's all said and done, you want to be prompted with the Import Dialog Box
when you insert a CD, right? There are several ways to get this to happen but
you must understand that it is quite possible that you inadvertently turned
this feature off. You can turn it back on but you must do so in either the
iTunes preferences area or in the Windows Explorer area.
Also, it is possible that iTunes is automatically importing your CDs.

Lori, if some of this seems overwhelming, you might consider getting some
one-on-one assistance, in person.

Understand that, while iTunes for Windows and iTunes for OSX may look similar,
they are, in fact, very, very different applications in terms of stability and
how they perform with access software. I say this so that you will not blame
yourself for the problems you have encountered.

Depending upon various factors, it can take iTunes for Windows up to twenty or
more minutes to launch on certain computers with certain iTunes and system
configurations. It just depends. This is most likely not your situation but
it is possible.

It took me almost two months, way back then, to stop cursing iTunes everytime I
opened it on my Windows computer back in 2008 (smile).

Conversely, iTunes for the Mac is as sweet as Tupelo honey, Honey.

I wish you all the best.

Mark

can I go on the internet and download the newest version of iTunes but I need

I tried shutting down my computer and restarting my computer to see if  that

Any other suggestions and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: iTunes help needed

2014-06-23 Thread Lori Dent

Hi Mark,

Yes, I know I have been getting some excellant advice. No, I haven't been
able to open up iTunes yet. I tried for most of the day and evening
yesterday to get iTunes to open up but with no luck.

I can't believe that after successfully importing 2 out of 3 of my CD's to
iTunes and then doing the necessary steps to sync my CD's to my iPhone that
I would have problems doing the third CD. I thought I was doing good by
successfully importing 2 of my CD's to iTunes and then on to my phone on my
own.

But this third and final CD and iTunes have been challenging and very
frustrating for me.

I will post my answers under each of your questions.

1. What version of windows are you using?
I'm using windows xp.

2. Which screen reader, if any are you using?
I'm using Jaws.

3. Do you have any residual vision that you can use to see if iTunes is or
is

not launching?

Yes, I have a little bit ofvision to where I can see if iTunes is launching
or not.
4. How old is your computer?

My computer is old. I don't know how old because I got this computer from a
friend.

5.

Is your computer connected to the Internet via a cable or via Wifi?

by WiFi.

If you have anymore questions to ask me don't hesitate to email me. Take
care.

Lori, with iTunes open, have you tried removing your music CD and inserting
it again? This should cause the dialog box asking you if you'd like to
import it to open. If it doesn't, the CD should be identified in the iTunes
sidebar under the Devices section. Put focus on the CD name and press ctrl +
F10 and a context menu should open with one of the choices being Import CD.

Good luck.

Re: iTunes help needed

2014-06-22 Thread Lori Dent
Hi all,

Okay, I shut down my computer and restarted it and then tried to open iTunes
but nothing happened it won't open. I just don't know what else to do hear.

I guess I'm lucky that I got 2 out of the tree CD's on my iPhone.

Lori, I think Allan meant to write shift F10, not control F10. This will open
up the context menu. Or, if you have an Applications key on your keyboard, that
will do it as well.

Thanks,

Re: iTunes help needed

2014-06-22 Thread Lori Dent
Hi Ari, Thanks. But I can't get iTunes to open on my desktop. I was wondering
can I go on the internet and download the newest version of iTunes but I need
the website for downloading iTunes?

I tried shutting down my computer and restarting my computer to see if that
would work so that I could open iTunesbut it didn't work and I still can't open
iTunes.

Any other suggestions and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, Ari. I did mean shift F10 to open the context menu. Sorry for the

Re: iTunes help needed

2014-06-22 Thread Arnold Schmidt
If I were in this situation, I would do a system restore, back to when it was
working. I would go back to the latest one before it stopped working. It
sounds as if the iTunes .exe file has gotten messed up some way. As for how to
do a system restore on a windows computer, I guess that definitely is getting
out of bounds for this list.
