The first thing that comes to mind is that downloads ARE occurring, but are ending up in an unknown location. Check Preferences Download Options Download Folder. If necessary, change the setting to a folder you know. If this is not the problem, I don't think it's going to be possible to sort it out online. -- Peter Hinchliffe Apwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482 Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. Re: Batteries for vintage Macs for Timor
It's the half AA, 3.6volt. I get them from Batteries Plus, in Hutton St, Osbourne Park. Just next to the freeway. Usually around the $12-13 mark. Have Mac friend looking for the following: I want to acquire a simple and very cheap software programme that will allow me to send faxes from my computer. That is, to send a 'broadcast' fax to up to ten numbers at once. Now that is not such a simple thing to do ! It implies that you are going to dial up and connect to 10 individual numbers at the one time. Impossible ! Alternatives might be: Telstra used to have a Broadcast Faxstream facility... you dial into and send your fax to there Faxstream centre once with a special code, it dials out to your group of numbers. Costs money. I don't know whether you can use it from a computer ! ? Or You find a web based Fax handling facility which will perform the same trick. If you can find one of these you will not need Fax software to do it. I expect it will cost also ! Have Fun Bob Can anyone help please? further to peter's comments... the download manager appears/dis-appears via apple-M. Do the files you request actually appear in the download manager? If so, double click the file in the resulting window click reveal in finder greg Hi, I am new to the group and new to Macs - i have a client who is 100% Mac and has set me up with a PowerBook G4; OS10.2.2 For reasons unknown to me I cannot download anything from Internet Explorer version 5.2 The download manager sometimes appears and sometimes does notbut still nothing comes down. Having been the recipient of a number of spam faxes in the past I am loathe to suggest anyone get into the mode of sending multiple faxes. Spamming aside, a separate issue is that sending an email is so much more convenient than sending a fax. I _detest_ receiving faxes in those situations where an email would have been a much better choice. -- Andrew Nielsen mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Starfish Technologies Pty Ltd http://www.starfish.net.au/ ACN 076 426 714 / ABN 49 426 849 601 Tel: 0500 555 677 Consultants in Unix, Mac OS, Windows networking technologies
Re: Replying to the right person (and not mailing off-list)
You might think it's only one question you're asking, but there's bound to be 10 more people thinking the same thing. Have fun, Shay Such inadvertent replying to the original poster rather than the list as a whole can be prevented if the the list set-up includes an automatic Reply-to address with the list email address. Every other email list to which I subscribe has this arrangement and all replies go straight to the list. I don't know how to do this but I am sure someone here does. UWA drops Mac support
Grabbed this article from http://www.macnn.com ... has this been on the cards for some time? Cheers, Tobes. --- Australian University drops Mac support Thursday, December 12, 2002 @ 1:05pm The University of Western Australia (UWA), which began teaching IT courses on the first Macs in the mid-eighties, has dropped Mac support from its teaching programs, claiming that the cost of Apple hardware was the reason for the decision (up to 2.5x the cost): There was nothing about OSX we didn't like, we just couldn't really afford the hardware costs. The Australian IT article notes that in contrast, the University of NSW installed a new Mac lab last year with 20 machines, primarily for teaching human computer interface (and is also working on Cocoa software development courses).

Which is why Apple produced the eMac, for heaven's sake. I doubt anyone could afford to fill large rooms with DP G4s, but then why would you want to just for teaching? It's just the IT politicians at work again. Changing the mind-set of the Windows-centric user can be extremely difficult. I recently showed MacOS X to one of these, who really struggled with the concept of a computer running Unix (it must be an emulation) and Microsoft Office (Yes, it really is made by Microsoft - see the logo?). He's still not really convinced. -- Peter Hinchliffe Apwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482 Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to.
