Re: Wireless Keyboards / Mice & OS X

2006-01-09 Thread Antony N. Lord
Its seems there are some really nice wireless keyboard / mice combos
made by people such as Logitech.

Now that I thought about it the biggest problem going to be having to
use the mouse on the coffee table (with the keyboard in your lap)...

Is there such think as a (wireless) keyboard with a trackpad (or
trackball) in it?

Googling isn't digging anything (current) up at the moment...

Request for developer with Java and Mac experience

2006-01-09 Thread Justin Davies

Hello all,

I hope you will forgive the commercial nature of this post, but I am
looking for someone who is familiar with Java development on the Mac
(most important) and on Windows environment using Sarfari and
Netscape/Firefox and IE browsers (with Explorer being more important
for the Windows environment given the likelihood that Explorer will
disappear from the Mac scene in the not too distant future.)  The
person must be able to communicate with our clients and existing
development team, and be able to work independently.  This may be up to
a three month contract, and we can pay $50 per hour. The person will
have to hand over the application to client staff, therefore must be
able to document the design. The ideal candidate will be someone with
web enabled applications development experience, but a strong Mac /
cross platform bent. This is to compliment part of a significant
development contract that we have, currently being developed in .Net
with SQL back end.

This specific application is to replace an Excel based application that
only runs on Windows, hence the Java approach to deliver a single
application that will run on both platforms. Web delivery of the
application is a mandatory requirement. So, if anyone can assist, or if
you know anyone, please do let me know directly at my work address
below. Thanks in advance.

Best regards

If you run the Updater (under Indesign help) you should see the

I can only assume this is a 2-way compatibility patch...

Almost - you still need to save the file using InDesign CS2 in
InDesign Interchange Format (.inx).

Details at

Cheers,

Steve.

Thanks Rod!

I giggled...

I read some of the many comments and took the liberty of showing you these.
It sure stirred a few folk up, ahh good ole windoze bashing:

"Deja vu, indeed. The irony is that all of my friends/co-workers will be
“showing off” these “new” features to me … I will look with a blank
stare and tell that I had these features over a year ago and they are
not all that … they will give me a blank stare and the cycle will continue."

And another:

"The claim that the Mac does'nt’t have any viruses because of its
comparatively small market share is contradicted by the existence of
Vista-specific viruses even before the official release of the Vista OS."

Not too sure about the second one but it sort of rings true ;-)
The funny thing for me is Vista's artwork with the folk standing on a
mountain. The problem is there is nothing close at all, the nearest
object is in the distant haze. (sigh)

Thanks to James and Robert for their advice on my 'static icons'
problems. I created a new user account and all was fine, rebooted back
to
original user and again all fine. So I wait to see if it reappears but
so far so good. Thanks again to you both.

Hi Jon,

I have not idea what might be causing your problem, but it (both
Finder and Photoshop) sounds specifically like a "drag and drop"
handling issue. In addition to trying any general tactics (e.g.,
repairing permissions -- just a thought), perhaps you can do a web
search for issues with drag and drop (incl. Apple Support). Also note
whether you have installed or upgraded any system utilities lately.

Broardband Internet

2006-01-09 Thread Darrel McGuiness

To all list members, have a great 2006 Year.
Despite the lack of interest, incorrect assumptions, from Telstra,
Optus, and others, I am at last on HiBis Satellite Internet.
The runaround from these Organisations and other suppliers of
equipment such as Sat modems and Routers is disgusting, and rather
offputing if you have Mac equipment.

The solution, ignore them and seek advice from our members.
In this regard my greatest thanks go to:- Onno, for his technical
advice and support; to Susan Hasting, for her advice on the financial
viability of ISP I was seeking to join,(phew); and to Daniel, for his
patient overall advise and help.

Cheers to all

I think it should be emphasized that the _default configuration_ in

You'll probably find it's scanning your NAT router, seeing that's the live
IP grc.com will be seeing, not your Mac (which is being NATed) or your VPC
(which is being NATed twice. The virtual switch creates a virtual network
which it NATs onto your Mac's IP address, which in turn is being NATed by
your router).

You might want to secure your router if it's exposing FTP, Telnet and HTTP
servers to the Internet. :)
