Maybe... More likely a price realignment due to exchange rates etc. The local online AppleStore has the lower pricing too... Bigpond Cable broadband connection problems
A family member in Melbourne has a Bigpond Cable modem and they have now come across to the enlightened side - purchased a current iMac. However they cannot get Mail operating. They can access the internet via Safari. Apparently the Apple person who sold them the iMac installed Parallels, which they have been using via Outlook for mail. I ask them to quit Parallels. We have set up new mail POP account via Mail preferences. However they keep getting a request for password, which they complete without success. Has anyone within the Wamug community had similar experiences, and can they provide some guidance? Thanks in advance. Error from Lacie drive
Hi, I've been using an external Lacie drive for some time, connecting via SMB. Recently I've had a file that appeared to have a bad sector in it, but now I cannot connect to the entire disk. The message I get from the Finder is: The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in smb:// laciedrive/mydrive could not be read or written. (Error code -36) The Lacie drive is connected to our network via Ethernet. I am connecting to to it using smb smb://laciedrive/mydrive Have tried rebooting the drive and reconnecting. Anyone recognise what is happening here? Is it likely I have a faulty file or drive? You could check the power pack is plugged in properly , and try a substitute if you can access one. Hi James, Doesn't look like anyone does have any other ideas, or else they have been busy on other things like I have. OK, let's find out a couple of things first. You say you installed a few shareware apps around the time iPhoto started crashing, was any an 'Application Enhancer'? Also your HD had some problems that you say are now 'fixed' ? I would first get your MacBook Pro completely up to date. Update iPhoto to 6.0.6 http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iphoto606.html Download The Combo 10.4.9 update for your MacBook Pro install it. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateintel.html Check Software update again to make sure all security updates etc are installed. Repair Permissions again. Restart your MacBook Pro. Then if iPhoto 6.0.6 doesn't work. It might be that the library database file, Library6.iPhoto is corrupted, or a file is. If there is only one library folder in your Pictures folder and rebuilding it by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and following the instructions to rebuild the library didn't work. I think you'll have to start afresh with a new library and import the files from the Original folder in the old library. Here's how: Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original: 1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop. 2. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library. 3. Drag the 'Originals' folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window. NB. 'Make sure you have 'Copy Files to iPhoto Library Folder' ticked in Preferences Advanced'. This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title. Once this is completed and you are sure everything is working correctly in iPhoto you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Library folder. Hi Michael, If you are sure the Mail POP account has all the correct settings, and the password is correct. 1. Quit Mail 2. Open Keychain Access which (if it's not showing on the top Menu of the desktop) is in Applications Utilities Keychain Access.app and manually delete the Keychain entry for the mail account. 3. Restart Mail and it will ask for the Mail account's password again, type in the password and tick 'Remember this password in my keychain'. Now the password should be stored correctly and Keychain access will do the email password in the background when you check for new mail.
