Hi Everyone

Does anyone know if there is a template or ?? for following
situation.Being cabinetmaker I do always the same jobs as kicks ,
cabinets , doors etc for various people.

I need
1st a timer to keep track of the labour plus
2nda way to keep track of the costs .

Then I like to see the real costs per lm of cabinets or per drawer
and being able to

3d compare these costs between various customers or employees .

Any suggestions if this is possible on filemaker and how much it will
cost are greatly appreciated.

10.5.7 Update - Time Capsule Canon printer

2009-05-19 Thread Norman Leslie

Hi,

I have 2 iMacs and a MacBook on a wireless network using Time Capsule.

All was well prior to the software update.

After installing the Combo Updater and running Disk Utility as
recommended, the two iMacs had no problem. However, the MacBook was
not backing up on Time Capsule. I tried a number of times without
success. I looked online and found that someone else was reporting the
same issue on TUAW, but no solution.

Then I connected the MacBook directly to Time Capsule via ethernet
cable. That solved the problem, but it did take 37 mins to prepare,
33 minutes to back up and 11 minutes finishing. I have just
checked and it subsequently backed up wirelessly in the usual amount
of time - about 4 minutes.

I hope this helps anyone encountering a similar problem.

As an aside, I have a Canon iP300 printer connected to one of the
iMacs. I can print from the iMac connected to that printer, but I
can't print from the other iMac nor the MacBook. Print sharing is on.
This worked before the update. Any thoughts

booting from wrong drive

2009-05-19 Thread Ken Jackson

Hi all,

I think part of the problem is that the G5 is now booting from the
500 gig drive inside instead of the Mac Hard Drive.

When I tried to install items I was told during the process that it
will only install on the 500.

I also just downloaded Quick Time (old one would not work) it
tells me I can't install it on either drive?? What the!!
This coupled with the I Movie failure leads me to believe I have
screwed up somewhere?... badly

Thanks

Ken,

You can't update from Panther 10.3.9 staight to Tiger 10.4.11
As I've said in previous emails to WAMUG Combo updaters will install
on the same version they're applying.

Combo Updates update Mac OS X up to the version specified by the
update, including all intervening updates.

The OS X Combo 10.4.11 will update any version from 10.4 Tiger to
10.4.11 not 10.3.9 Panther.

You need to install Tiger 10.4 first then use the Combo Update 10.4.11

Hmmm !

Your phone is fine now , but I am still unsure whether you actually
have the old style phone
or whether it is part of your data set up . I am not experienced in a
data phone connection .

If you do actually have a landline phone and it is now ok ,
You need to go back to westnet and tell them the repairer has stuffed
up your line .

We do not know why it went down in the first place , but it could have
been because

an installer stole your previous working pair ( records error perhaps )
and they have put you on another pair .

Another trick when there is one faulty wire of a pair is to use a wire
from another pair
( makes a split pair ) and that would be bad for your data signal
level .

Have fun

Bob

There are several templates which come with Filemaker Pro, each of
which will do part of what you want, but none which will do it all. To
do it all, you will have to learn enough about Filemaker Pro to do it
yourself, or pay someone to do it for you.

Alternatively, you could look at something like http://www.briefcase.net.au/
. This is an all-purpose job management system written entirely in
FMP. It's a little expensive at $495, but it seems to be well-written,
and costs a lot less than paying someone to develop a solution for
you. You can download a 30-day trial and see it it suits.

Merv

Perhaps the singing will improve with Snow Leopard... :-)

I've tracked down the source of my iMic problem at least. It tuned out
to be the Hear audio plugin. This is something which is apparently
installed with Skype, and has been causing problems for quite a while,
since at least 10.5.3 according to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7416555#7416555
. I have removed it and now Wiretap Studio seems to be working fine.
At least it doesn't quit when I hit the Record button any more.
Amadeus II also seems to be behaving itself now as well. Don't really
care about the rest since I never use them. I'm very relieved since I
was reduced to using Final Vinyl, a piece of software which is almost
completely unusable for recording from vinyl records because of the
ever increasing volume of the background hiss while it's recording.

Now perhaps Skype will work better as well. That was another casualty
of the 10.5.7 upgrade on my system.

Hi Jon,

Audio Hijack Pro
http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/
Or:
WireTap Studio
http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/wiretap/
In iTunes you have the capability of streaming URL addresses

-Click on Music - Then click Advanced - Open Audio Stream - and paste
the audio stream URL. Most URLs should start streaming if they are
setup correctly. For example many shoutcast based streams will stream
via this method.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/features/#radio

Add a Station

Say there’s an Internet radio station you love, but it’s not included
with iTunes. Choose Open Audio Stream from the Advanced menu to add
the station to your library. Paste or enter the station’s URL in the
dialogue that appears and click OK.

Cheers,

Ronni

Re: Recording sound from a Mac

2009-05-19 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Ronni (and all)

I have a radioSHARK that I use here. I've also set them up for clients as
well. I find that it works really well and I'm quite happy with the
reception. I have it sitting behind my 23 LCD monitor and when working and
what something different to listen to I have it running.
I've also got a few people that use them to record things off Radio National
(I think) and find it quite good for those as well. A couple of times I've
left it running and gone out and then come back and scrolled back to listen
to something I missed,..so quite good for that too.
So overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I find the reception works well (in
Huntingdale) and the quality is pretty good.
Griffin products are generally very good I find.

Oh, and yes you are correct with the eBay, it's the older version 1 that
doesn't do Internet Radio which version2 does. You can't get the older
Version1 anymore from what I've seen on my wholesalers website, just the v2,
so they may be selling off older ones.

And I can't say I've had the problems he's had with it in the review. There
are a couple of quirky things with it, like the changing stations, so I
agree with that, but overall I haven't had a problem with reception,
crashing, or poor performance, and from what my customers tell me, neither
have they. They all seem quite happy with it. (Mine runs on a MacPro 3Ghz,
and my clients mostly have fairly new iMac's)

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel

Robbers steal 70 iPhones in daring daylight heist

2009-05-19 Thread Brian Scott

Hi wamuggers,

Some hot iPhones getting about shortly?

From: ..
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10244720-37.html?part=rsssubj=newstag=2547-1_3-0-5

Two men pulled off a daring daylight robbery last week in Orange
County, Calif., nabbing cash and 70 iPhones from an ATT store.

The report goes on to say..

Apple is reportedly working on ways to help individuals find lost or
stolen iPhones using its MobileMe service. That feature will be
available when the next generation operating system is released this
summer

2009-05-19 Thread Ken Jackson

Hi everyone,

any recommendations for a 1TB hard drive that is readily compatible
with Mac no need for extra instal procedures?
Officeworks have a 1TB Western Digital but they really don't work
with Mac. it was $179 @ the time but now $219.
I bought one a few months back (My Book or something similar) it
just did not work without downloading a heap of stuff from their site.
Also an internal 500 gig is needed. Is it PLE computers in Wangarra?
Roger mentioned them as a possible source.

thanks folks,

Re: Recording sound from a Mac

2009-05-19 Thread Brian Scott

Hi,

I regularly listen the rugby by loading a little file called 'radio-
sport-wellington.asx' into QuickTime (double-clicking loads it).

Examining the contents of the file it has..

(I don't know how this will show on wamug)

ASX version = 3.0
Entry
TitleRadio Sport Wellington /Title
AUTHOR/AUTHOR
COPYRIGHT/COPYRIGHT
Ref href=mms://ac1.streaming.net.nz/trn-radiosport-wlg /
/Entry
/ASX

Is this a typical example of a Internet radio station URL?

I've tried loading it into iTunes but it won't work, I tried the ms://
ac1.streaming.net.nz/trn-radiosport-wlg from the file

which wouldn't work either.

It's in the back of my mind that I may need to set up some method of
recording from 'radio-sport-wellington.asx'
and getting it to load at a certain time of the day if I need to go
out when the game is on but am not sure how to do that.

Re: Drives

2009-05-19 Thread Daniel Kerr
Yeh, I'd agree with this one. I've sold about 50 Western Digital drives to
clients in various flavours (MyBook Studio, Studio II, Passport Studio,
Passport Studio II) and not had any problems with them. Oh wait,..bar one
which ended up being a power brick but I just replaced that on the spot and
it worked fine after that.
Generally haven't had to format them, just plug and play. Though, yes
sometimes reformatting them for specific Mac's does help.
I only ever get the ones with Quad interface though (USB2, Firewire400,
Firewire800, eSATA). Never the cheap straight USB ones. They are too slow
and tend to be more unreliable with file transfer. And did I say too slow.
I tend to think USB is one of those products with drives,..you get what you
pay for. Buy a cheap USB drive, have problems.
Not much good if you have a MacBook with no Firewire,..but don't get me
started on that one,

Kind Regards
Daniel

Ken's Mac is a PowerPC I think, so to for bootability, the drive would
need to be format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
the Partition type: Apple Partition Map - for bootability on
PowerPC-based Macs.

GUID Partition Table - for bootability on Intel-based Macs
Apple Partition Map - for bootability on PowerPC-based Macs

Yes, I agree I have never had a problem with Western Digital drives.
I've purchased 'numerous' drives from Daniel Kerr not one has caused
me any problems.

Is this a typical example of a Internet radio station URL?

I've tried loading it into iTunes but it won't work, I tried the

It's in the back of my mind that I may need to set up some method of

Re: Drives

2009-05-19 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Tony

Yes, if you're going to use it for storing and editing, and have Firewire,
go that way. Firewire works on straight transfer, whereas USB works on
burst information, so it goes up and down in waves. (kinda). So it's
generally slower for large data. I've always found Firewire walks all over
USB. And Firewire800 is faster again.

So yes, my recommendation would be Firewire for any editing type
application. Also making sure it's not formatted DOS. Had a person have
trouble trying to edit to a drive and it was due to the format. Reformat the
drive to Mac and it worked perfectly.

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel
