Hi all,
Thanks to Rob,Neil, Eugene, & Ronda for all your useful
replies, they are all tucked away in my " Problem Solving file " that I keep,
the one that I will be using is what Ronda suggested " Address Book v 5.0.1, "
I've have used address book for years and never knew you could do that with it.
One tends to do certain things with applications and so long
as they do that, you tend to overlook all the other things they can do !
Once again Thank you for your help in this matter.

Afternoon all,

I'd just like to add a note. OpenOffice now has a native Mac
application which I'm lead to believe is better than NeoOffice is.
Could be an alternative option.

Bill, you've had many useful replies to your query -- just to say if
you don't really have a lot of labels, it may be easiest to get some
full A4 label forms and cut up the different addresses produced by the
suggested methods with scissors -- or even print on plain paper and
use glue to stick the labels on envelopes.

A table in Numbers is a separate entity from the Sheet which contains

doing separate jobs yet capable of referring to each other. There
really is no comparable functionality in Excel. For example, a Numbers

A simple example, but it does illustrate a fundamental difference

Better still.

Drag the MS Word document onto the Pages icon in the dock. Hey
presto!. The Word document usually open formatting intact in Pages.
Some times the formatting is better as I experienced today. Some
times the formatting has to be redone a little. Some times Pages will
not accept et formatting but this is very uncommon.

And once the document is in Pages, much better to then edit etc.

I'm progressively converting all Word document to Pages. Have not
upgrades to Office for Mac 2009.

I would expect that Microsoft at some stage will not continue to
support Office for Mac as iWork is getting better and better.

8 Gig iPod Nano experience

2009-11-19 Thread Paul Weaver

In case you haven't noticed there's a shove going on with 8 Gig iPod Nanos at
the moment. Apple.au still list them for $199, but Harvey Norman has been
pushing them out the door for $168. Kmart have been $169 for the past week. We
checked JBs Myaree yesterday but they'd thrown in the towel and were sticking
with a much higher price. They were not interested in competing yesterday even
though their junk mail a few days ago said, "See instore for a hot JB price."
Actually the hottest price we found was The Good Guys in O'Connor who sold us
one for $167 and included a $20 iTunes card as a sweetener. They had plenty of
stock in different colours. I noticed they also had an iMac on display.

Happy shopping, Paul.

Hello Martin,

A little more information would be helpful, like error messages, what you've
done to try and diagnose the issue, and who your email account is with.
Also you are saying your Operating System is OS X 10.2? I guess you mean OS X
10.6.2.?

Check your email account settings especially your "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
& in Advanced Port: that you have the correct settings for your ISP.
Without more information from you that is the only advice I can give.

In addition to the suggestions offered by Neil and Stuart, you ccna also go the
the more "brute force" option: select any Word file (ie, one with a filename
ending in ".doc") and press cmd-I (or choose File > Get Info from the Manu
Bar). In the setion of the Info window, go to the section labelled ""Open
with:" and choose Pages from the drop-down menu. If you then click the "Change
All.." button, you will find that from then on everytime you double-click a
Word document it will open in Pages instead of MS Word.

Note that if you need to send a Pages file to someone as a Word file, Pages has
a "Share" menu which gives you that option.

2009-11-19 Thread Bill Cole

Hi all, ( Ronda )
it worked like a dream, all my selected multi
addresses folders printed out great, Except that yesterday evening I spent all
evening trying to print my " return" address , I could only get it to print 1
(one) Avery L7651 on the sheet of labels, which it did perfectly, when what I
wanted was to be able to print say 20 or 30 of the "return" labels. I know I
must be missing something, I even created a new folder with just my "return"
address in , but it still only printed the one label. I just don't see where it
says anything about multiple print-outs of single addresses . Hope that makes
sense !
Printer is HP photosmart C6270 all in one. (
can't see it being a problem with the printer. it printed all the others great).

Grateful for any help you can give me
 Bill

I used Migration assistant to transfer everything across but the bookmarks

The original machine is running Leopard and the new one is on Snow leopard.
Safari synced trough Mobileme but I would also like Firefox because of some

Did a Spotlight search but no luck.

Hi Frank

You should be able to copy them from the "old" machine to the new one from
the following location:-

Macintosh HD/Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/

In there will be a folder called Firefox.

Copy this Firefox folder from the "old" machine to the same location on the
new machine.

This should then get Firefox to work with you with the same bookmarks etc.

If the above doesn't work, you may also need the preference file from this
location:-
Macintosh HD/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences.

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel

Hi Frank,

Depending on what version of Firefox you're using, they can be stored in a few
locations:

FF 3.0 and below should be user profile > Library > Application Support >

FF 3.5 - the file should be in the same location but it will be called

Re: Label & addresses app.

2009-11-19 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Bill,

I don't know of a way to use the "Mailing Labels" function for multiple copies
of the same "return" address.

Another way you could have done this project is using the Envelopes function
Print.

NOTE:If you want to print envelopes, first make sure your printer is configured
to print them and then place envelopes in the printer.

1. Select all the Contacts you want to print "Envelopes" for. I have a Group
"Family", so I select the first contact in "Family", then "Edit > Select All".

2. File > Print

3. In the Print Window that appears, select Style: "Envelopes"

Envelopes: Click Layout and choose the type of envelope you’re using. If you’re
using a special envelope, choose Define Custom and specify the envelope
dimensions.

Click Label and then specify whether to include your return address and which
address to use for it. Choose the type of address to print for each contact
from the Addresses pop-up menu (for example, print a label for each contact’s
home or work address, or both).

Use other Label options to choose the print order, a country (for international
mailings), and an image for the upper-left corner of the envelopes. To choose
the direction in which to feed the envelopes into the printer, click
Orientation.

RE: Firefox Bookmarks

2009-11-19 Thread Paul Burke

A bit more info on this...

Here is a good doc on exporting/importing bookmarks

http://mozilla.gunnars.net/firefox_bookmarks_tutorial.html

Also a 'cant live without' firefox addon to sync your bookmarks with any
pc on any browser (well the main 4 anyway)

Hi Frank

You should be able to copy them from the "old" machine to the new one
from
the following location:-

Macintosh HD/Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/

In there will be a folder called Firefox.

Copy this Firefox folder from the "old" machine to the same location on
the
new machine.

This should then get Firefox to work with you with the same bookmarks
etc.

If the above doesn't work, you may also need the preference file from
this
location:-
Macintosh HD/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences.

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel

Thanks Gav

Using FF 3.5 and your suggestion did the trick.

Thanks to all who replied.

Re: Label & addresses app.

2009-11-19 Thread Neil Houghton

Hi Bill,

I would have thought the easiest way to do multiple copies of the same
address would be just to use the word template for the specific label sheet,
eg:
 for the 30 label sheet

Just copy the address and paste from label to label and then print out.

Cheers

Re: Label & addresses app.

2009-11-19 Thread Mervyn & Giuliana Bond

For dinosaurs like me who still fiddle with AppleWorks I use the Data Base
1	In Layout mode for Labels select how many labels across you
need and then create one label to the dimensions required and put in
the text.

2 Switch to Browse.
3	In Browse mode you see one label. In the Edit Menu is a
duplicate record command. Use the key board and hit Command - D the
required number of times to fill the page.

4 Print that one page as many times as required on a sheet of labels.
Cheers
Merv

 Hi Bill,

If you use Address Book v5.0.1 (which you would have in 10.6.2) you can
 print "Mailing Labels"

 1. Select all the Contacts you want to print "Mailing Labels"
for. I have a

Group "Family", so I select the first contact in "Family", then "Edit >
 Select All".

 2. File > Print

 3. In the Print Window that appears, select "Mailing Labels"
Layout - you have Avery Standard, Avery A4, DYMO (I have a Dymo
LabelWriter 320 so I select Dymo)

Works great using my Dymo so I'm sure it would work well with
Avery Papers.
