Re: G5 problems

2010-06-08 Thread Jon Davison

Thanks to everyone that helped with advice re my 2 G5 towers.
Unfortunately the problem still exists, so I will put that on the back
burner for a while.

A new query though.

Can I use Apple Script to re label loads of JPEG images? We are
setting up our new on-line stock library and I need to be able to use
alpha-numeric codes on thousands of pix, such as SUB0001.jpg to
SUB0066.jpg, or PEOP0001.jpg to PEOP0200.jpg for example.

Beta site: www.eyeinthesky.com.au/website

So if anyone has experience with Apple Scripting I would love to hear
from you, as I have never used it before.

Thanks
Jon

Hello Stuart,

I'm not sure I follow you here?

The iPhone syncs your iCal from your computer, if it has Monday as the start of
the week, so will the iPhone.
You can change the 'Start Week on: Sunday, in iCal Preferences.

Perhaps it is a function of MobileMe sync-ing? I think Ronni uses this too?

I guess I could sign up for 60days to test it but would still be at a loss to

My version of p92 of the iPhone_User_Guide 3 makes no mention of Sunday being

Re: iPhone Calendar/Settings/1st Day of the Week

2010-06-08 Thread Daniel Kerr

Hi All

A quick google search for:-
how to change iPhone ical week to start on a Sunday
Comes back with this article:-
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=524121

Which has the following steps to change it:-
---quote---
I don't understand why Apple changed this setting. This has caused me a lot
of unneeded stress. I found the answer at an Apple support forum,
http://discussions.apple.com/threadsageID=7848233

To change the iPhone Calendar to show Sunday as the first day of the week
(far left in month view) - from the Home screen:
1. tap Settings
2. tap General
3. tap International
4. tap Region Format
5. select United States
---end quote---

Might fix iCal, but unsure what other settings it will then throw out. :o)
(One at least from what I can see will be the phone numbering format).
Seems like they don't think Australia wants the same format as the US, so it
starts on a Monday.
(or apparently Ireland will also do it, but keep dd/mm/ instead of
mm/dd/).

I never notice it as I use day view on the iPhone.

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel

Re: iPhone Calendar/Settings/1st Day of the Week

2010-06-08 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi All,

If you change the International Region Format to United States, all your
measurements, times etc will show up as US ones, your weather to F instead of
C.

You could try setting the Region Format to Hong Kong. This way you’ll get
Sunday and Metric System.

My iCal is set at Monday start of week, and iPhone is Monday start of week, and
yes, I do sync with MobileMe.
But, that is not the reason both are on Monday as start of week. It is because
I have iCal set as Monday start of week, and my iPhone set Region Format
Australia.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: DVD-R

Hi Lloyd --

-- It might just be that you have hit a bad patch in the Verbatim production
line. I had a similar problem with a batch of Sony DVD+Rs. I even sent one
which was clearly faulty back to Sony, they denied there was anything wrong
with it. I now use TDK Gold DVD+R discs, they are a bit more expensive, but
have had no problems since (maybe 800 discs used).

Is there any reason the Verbatim disks are suddenly not acceptable? Could

And the Progress Bar has returned to the URL field! Hooray. This was one of the
more puzzling changes in Safari 4 IMHO, together with the restriction of
Snapback to the Search field. Perhaps we might see the full return of Snapback
in Safari 6...

You might also want to consider using Automator to create a new workflow.
Automator has a specific Rename Finder Items action which has the power to do
what you want. You'll need the Make Sequential option, and start the workflow
with the Ask for Finder items action.

Automator is the bomb for this sort of thing.

Open automator

(if in a later version choose to create an application now)
 select files finder
Select rename Finder Items
(usually you will get prompted to add a backup file option here.. It would
be wise not to be working on the original but as I have backups before I
start this sort of thing I don't put this action in)
Select the type of action you want done (in this case Make Sequential)
Use the Options show this action when the workflow runs so that you can
customise the rename process for each time you run it.

Save as an application (older versions of automator will now do the
workflow or application thing)

Drag and drop batches of files on to the applications (you can add it to
your right mouse click menu... But I've forgotten how to do this...anyone
else know?)

MacBook screen sleep

2010-06-08 Thread Severin Crisp

We have a Macbook, used principally by my wife, and currently she is
studying an eBook. Annoyingly the Macbook screen darkens after a
short interval of inactivity, while reading, prior to the eventual
onset of sleep as set in Energy Saver. I have not been able to find
any way to stop or lengthen this. I realise it is there for a very
good battery conservation reason but would like to circumvent it
temporarily.

Any suggestions please?
