Hi Gary,

More information would help give correct instructions.
Are you receiving an error message when Time Machine tries to backup?
Or is it staying in “Preparing for backup” for a very long time?
Is ™ finding the backup partition?

Post back with more information and I’ll give you suggestions what can be done.

time machine - failed

howdy

Last week  or the week before, during the hot days, my macPros' fans 
started up  and I was getting some flaky performance.

So I shut it down.  pulled it apart, removed ram boards,  and 3 x  HD 
trays and vacuumed all the dust out from the inside , internal fans 
etc and put it back together, trays in reinstalled in number order.

Now Time machine ( one of  internal HD)  fails at doing its backup thing.

Would  putting the Time Machine HD back in a different tray position 
affect this? maybe I'v put it back in the wrong position.

Is there a certain order the HD trays ought to be installed. The User 
guides doesn't say anything about a preferred order

Ew cnet download site. Yuck. 
Try www.macupdate.com - so much nicer and less " rubbish". 
Versiontracker used to be the site to use until CNET bought it out and killedl 
it off and turned it into something horrible. Macupdate is so much easier to 
work with now. :)

On topic - have a look at a program called Emailachemy. Though not free it will 
convert them to a mac standard (mbox or other) that you can access. Works very 
well.

Don’t upgrade to Lion without knowing if this App will do what you wish ;-)
I have not tested it as I have no need to view any Windows Outlook Mail.

There are PST viewers for Snow Leopard I’m sure.
I’ll have a search when I find time and get back to you if I find anything.

If so have a look at PST Bridge.

"PST Bridge is two applications in one. Not only you may use it to convert your 
existing Outlook PST files to be used on Lion. 
You may also use PST Bridge to display your PST file contents without the need 
of conversion. 
Simply open your files and start browsing its contents!

PST Bridge will always show and export 10 items per folder. To remove this 
limitation, you may unlock it using In-App purchases.

I echo Ronni's comments re Epson.  I have an SP1290Silver and an SP R2880 which 
both perform faultlessly and are always updated with drivers by Epson.   These 
are both higher end artwork printers and I use a Fuji-Xerox C525A laser for 
secretarial type stuff.

consistent that Epson are the most recommended.
Epson I have found are the most compatible with Macs. They seem to update their 
drivers quicker to support new Operating Systems than others.

I currently have an Epson TX810FW purchased in May 2010 and it has worked 
faultlessly in Snow Leopard and Lion.
I have always used Epson Printers and I recommend Epson Printers because my 
personal experience has been very good.

My Epson TX810FW  is Wireless Network, no cables anywhere (other than a power 
cord).
Wirelessly Prints / Scans / Prints to CDs/DVDs 



You should first check Apple’s list of Printer Models that are supported on OS 
X Snow Leopard and Lion:

No, the mail library created in Lion is not backwards-compatible, but you CAN 
use the mail library from the backup you created before you converted to Lion 
(you did create that backup, didn't you…?)

Although there's not much we can do about Address Book (and it's really just an 
appearance change - all the old features are still there), all the other Lion 
issues you mention are optional: you can choose to have scroll bars visible at 
all times (although you're stuck with the new minimalist look), you can ignore 
full screen mode completely, as you can with most of the other new features in 
Lion. 

For me, the positives in Lion far outweigh the negatives. For example, on 
personal note, it took me some time to get used to Mission Control as opposed 
to Spaces in SL, but now I find I take advantage of multiple work spaces far 
more than I ever did before Lion.

Sorry Severin,

I misunderstood your email ;-) TextEdit also opens with a blank page, it is how 
the programs are designed & is in compliance with Apple's OS X guidelines for 
software of its type.

There is a AppleScript here that open’s Word 2008 for Mac and then closes the 
automatically spawned blank document.
To stop a blank document on opening Word 2008

either want to open an existing document or one of my own templates.  It is 
only a little thing but I find it annoying to always have a blank "Normal", 
even if it is my own doctored one,  open each time to be immediately closed.

Hi Michael,

I take a slightly different approach and utilise the Smart Groups feature of 
Address Book.

In all the Address Book cards of people who belong to a particular group, I put 
that groups name into the Text field in Address Book.

I then set up a new Smart Group and set the rules so that this new smart group 
contains all the people that contain  in the text field. You can 
play with the rules to find the best option for you. 

Then in Mail, I simply enter the new smart group name in the BCC field, or you 
can more sensibly use Daniels fail safe solution. 

Using a smart group mean all I need to remember to do when I get a new member 
to our group, is to add the group name into the text field of their Address 
Book entry, I don't also have to remember to drag their card into the group. 

To find all the members of the group, simply type the group name into the 
search function of Address Book and they all appear so you can check on them. I 
also use this feature when finding current members as I have added "Member 
2012' into the field, so when I search by Member 2012, there they all are and I 
can print labels, do addresses on envelopes etc. all from within Address Book. 
If I want to email to just these members, I can find them in search, then do a 
select all and drag these addresses into the BCC field of an open Mail email.

Then Right click on one of them, and you'll get "Add to Address Book". This 
should then add them all to the address book.

down Command key to select the multiple of them.
Then once all highlighted, drag them into your new Group you've made.
That should then get them in "manually" if Ronni's way isn't working.

opens?   I can not find it anywhere.  Maybe it does not exist.

Hello Michael and all

There is another option.

Go to the Mail drop down menu, while on the main Mail Viewer window.

Then> View > Customize Toolbar > Then drag the Reply All icon into the tool 
bar. Press Done.

Then with the received email selected, click Reply All and delete any you don't 
want from there.

Maybe you know this already. Good luck.
