Re: Internet speed test

2018-04-12 Thread Philippe Chaperon
Hi Ronni and Michael,

I remember having made the mistake of installing MacKeeper some years back and
was lucky to notice the many warnings about this devilish application on WAMUG.
Ronni’s instructions were very helpful in getting rid of every bit of this
application lurking on my drive. Since then I have a note warning myself never
to even be curious about the MacKeeper and also NOT to try it!

All members of my family using Apple computers have been warned by me not to
even look at their site!

I am so ever grateful to WAMUG and Ronni for the many hints and instructions
given to make my iMacs and Macbook work on reliably.

Cheers everyone and Safe Weekend,

Philippe Chaperon

Thanks Ronni.

I shutdown, started in Safe mode, searched for MacKeeper and removed every
trace I could find of it. Looked in places like Preferences as well.

Cheers,

Re: Internet speed test

2018-04-12 Thread Michael Hawkins
Don’t be envious, Rob. I’m on NBN, 200m from the node in Doubleview in what
formerly was a Homeswest area, and download of MacKeeper just now was 250kbs.
Speedtest reported 10.86MBS immediately before I downloaded MacKeeper, and
Speedof me reported 12.1MBS.

Our internet speeds on NBN are a fraction of what I get using my iPhone as a
personal hotspot.

Cheers,

Michael Hawkins

Internet speed again.

2006-04-22 Thread Lloyd White

Further to my posting last week asking about download speed.

It has been established that the line between me and Webace, my provider, is
OK. I am downloading from the server at about 80K. But there appears to be a
problem from Webace to the internet. It reduces to 3 - 8 K.

Is there any other person in WAMUG using Webace and ADSL with the same
problem? A complaint has been made to Telstra by Webace but nothing has
improved yet.

It looks as if I might be heading for a new provider.

Interesting

I used the Briscomp site and it returned:
Upload speed = 5.42 Mb/s (the site says this equates to a 10 Mb file in 15
secs)
Download speed = 119kbps
Using Bigpond cable on a 2 GHz G5

Re: Internet speed

2006-04-18 Thread Spin
Has anyone actually seen iiNet ADLS2+ go faster than 4Mb/sec? It
peaks at this speed for me, and I've seen it do the same on others,
but never faster. The actual speed is usually slower for me than 4Mb/
sec, and of late it appears there are more disruptions.

That's iiNet's offer but no, not here in Gero. They don't have

I'm paying $59.95 for the iiNet 1500/256+5GB plan, ~$19.95 Telstra

Hi Reg,

Thank you for your email.

When iiNet first released newer plans early last year, we refered
to any new plan as 'broadband2', irrespective if your service is
connected to the iiDSLAM equipment or the Telstra equipment at
your local exchange.

In order to make it easier to determine who is on what equipment,
we now refer to anyone on Telstra equipment as 'broadband1' and
iiDSLAM as 'broadband2'.

As you are connected to the Telstra equipment at your local
exchange, your service is refered to as a 'broadband1' account.
However the speed has not changed nor has the download quota. It
is the same account that you have had since you joined with iiNet.
Only the name has changed. Your speed is 1536/256, your quota is
5Gb peak and 5Gb off peak.

Please note though the Light plan has been made redundant so if
you upgrade or downgrade the service you will not be able to
return to the same plan.

Sincerely,

Adrian

You could well be right Nancy. I have been in contact with Webace and tested
the link between my Mac and their server. It is fine: downloading at about
80+ KB/s. The problem, they claim, is from them upstream through Telstra.
They are now communicating with Telstra to fix it. Fingers crossed.
