How is your printer connected: USB or Ethernet? When you go to "System
Preferences > Print & Scan" does the Xerox printer show in the list of devices?
If so, the driver is probably working. You can confirm this by clicking the
"Options and Supplies..." button and then the Driver tab. Your printer driver
will show in the "Print Using:" menu in the Driver pane.

If you don't see your printer in the list of devices in Print & Scan then you
most likely have a communication problem, but without knowing more about your
setup it's not possible to speculate just what that might be.

Brian thanks for this, turns out the person from dick smith gave me 3
cartridges for this printer and 1 for a different epson printer that looks
absolutely identical, hence the reseating error - however your email helped me
work it out, many thanks.

Hello, and welcome back to Just Answer!

The E-02 error indicates that a cartridge is expended or not installed properly.

You have stated that you have reseated it and are getting the same error.

The printer should have an arrow pointing to which cartridge is giving you the
error. If it is the same one you just reinstalled, there is a good chance that
the contacts on the cartridge are defective and you need to bring it back to
where you purchased it and exchange it for another cartridge. Once you get the
new cartridge, install it and that should take care of the problem.

You can also go into the print software and check the levels of the other
cartridges -- if one is empty it may be causing this error. What happens is
when you reseat a new cartridge it will "charge" the cartridge -- prime it,
flush ink through it, then set it. After the printer ran this diagnostic, it
may have used up the last of another color cartridge's ink.

You can check the other ink levels by clicking the printer icon down near the
clock in the task bar and going to the printing preferences' maintenance tab
status monitor. You can also access it by clicking start / control panel /
printers & faxes / right click on printer icon / printing preferences /
maintenance tab / status monitor.

If you are still having a problem, you can call Epson technical support at
(XXX)XXX-. Be sure to get your serial number which is located near the ink
cartridges. It is an number beginning with JGJY.

My S520 has always worked perfectly for me, but I'm not using a USB
card so I don't have any experience with your particular setup. I aware
of others' experiences with USB cards, though, which have generally
been fixed by moving the card to a different slot. This might be worth
a try.

My S520 prints just fine from both MacOS X 10.2.3 and Classic. VERY
occasionally I do get a connection error, but this is invariably fixed
simply by removing and reconnecting the USB Cable. This I put down to a
common problem with USB devices, though. It's necessary with my Zip
Drive about every second time I use it (which admittedly is not very
often these days). I'm running it from a USB hub attached to my G4, but
it works just as well directly from the keyboard.

Canon printer problem

2003-01-24 Thread Mike Fuller
Hi all,

I have a friend with a 7500 running OS 9.1, plus a USB card in a PCI slot,
and a recently purchased Canon S520 printer linked via the USB port.
Unfortunately the printer isn't working, with an error message stating there
is a communication problem whenever a print request is sent.

The USB adapter card software from Apple has been installed (v 1.4), as has
the latest printer drivers from Canon. Apple System Profiler recognises the
card as a USB card, and Chooser recognises the printer when selected.

The printer and its cable work fine on another (Windows) machine. The only
hint I get is in the Canon troubleshooting docs where it says you should
attach the printer cable directly to the computer and not the USB port on
the keyboard. This refers to the IMac, so perhaps the Canon USB extension
isn't adaptable enough to work via a third-party USB card.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Regards,

Mike Fuller

PS I advised him originally to get an Epson.

The problem is clearly software-related, and specifically involved with
a corrupted PrintMonitor application. Reinstall your printer software.

If simply reinstalling does not fix the problem, delete all exisiting
BJ600 software before re-installing.

Help with printer problem

Hi all

I have been using a G4 Mac and a Canon S600 Bubble jet printer and for the
past year I have had no problems in printing.

This week I received the following printer error

"BJ PrintMonitor Error Number: M501
The BJ PrintMonitor did not start due to an error"

I have tried turning everything off and restarting and also downloading the
latest printer drives but the message keeps occurring.

However it only occurs when I start up the Classic 9 operating system.
If I start up in OSX, then there is no problem with printing and I can print
out material from any of the OSX programs. But when I revert of Classic 9
programs and finish starting up the classic 9 operating system the above
message appears.

Can anyone offer help.

Re: Physical Printer problem

2002-08-20 Thread Bill and Denise
I have the same printer and this problem has occurred 2 or 3 times. It is
caused by a small plastic tab on the carriage mechanism not retracting as it
should. I think its function is to hold the carriage assembly in the little
"house" for transport etc. Normally the tab is retracted, but if it is
sticking up... wham! Sort of like putting a block of cement on a railway
line.

To fix
1. open lid of printer
2. pull ink carriage to left out of the way
3. on the "tracks" you should be able to see a little plastic tab sticking
up
4. push it down. It should click into place
5. turn on printer
Problem solved

Solution
Slide a piece of paper around the chrome slide bar ( if that is what it is
called) so that nothing else will get wet when you give it a quick spray
with CRC or similar. (I use Ballistol)

I find CRC to be very oily / horrible.

Try using Ezy Glide or similar silicone based spray lubricant (from
most hardwares.)

Doesn't stain, is a dry lube (not oily), usually lasts longer, comes
with a straw for those hard-to-reach areas and doesn't attract dust /
grit.

Works on all sorts of stuff (and makes computer fans silent when
sprayed on the bearings!)

Try either whale oil (I know it is hard to get, but is the best for
printers) or a paste lubricant made for long life, I used to use graphite
powder (as used by locksmiths) or "white grease"(which comes from VCR
service suppliers .

I just found that CRC would dry out to quick, the "white grease" is used in
VCR's and seems to last ~ 10 years, I doubt many printers last that long.

Re: Physical Printer problem

2002-08-19 Thread Peter Martinson
We have the same problem frequently at school ( 8 epson 740's)

The problem seems to be that over time the slide bar that carries the ink
cartridge assembly gets dry.
This causes the cartridge assembly to not quite return to home base.
When the printer starts up it recognises that the assembly is not in the
home position and seems to assume it must be at the other end so it sends it
back! (rapidly) in that seemingly self destruct type manouvre.

Solution
Slide a piece of paper around the chrome slide bar ( if that is what it is
called) so that nothing else will get wet when you give it a quick spray
with CRC or similar. (I use Ballistol)

or dab some on with a cotton bud or similar.

So far we've had 100% success.

Cheers

I have the same printer and experienced the same problem but it seemed to
fix itself when I turned the printer on first let it warm up as such then
started my mac .

Physical Printer problem

2002-08-19 Thread Dark Servant
My Epson Stylus 740 printer is currently experiencing some problems of
physical nature. When I turn it on the printing block (part with the
ink cartridges) moves across the bar and slams its-self back into the
side of the printer while making a strange wir noise. As a result it
refuses print commands. I have been using ink refills. Would getting
new ink cartridges fix the problem (I doubt it).

I'm almost certain I will need to take it somewhere to be fixed but it's
worth checking on the list anyway.

Re: Printer Problem

2002-07-07 Thread Shay Telfer

Help,

I am having problems trying to print any documents from any applications. I
am running OS 9.1 on Imac DV and my printer is a Canon S800 photo printer.
Every time I want to print I have to either re-choose the printer from
chooser and if that doesn't work I have to re-start the computer. The
printer dialogue box says preparing to print and then nothing at all.
Every time I open chooser the printer never stays selected.

Is the date on your computer staying correct? It might be that your
machine's PRAM battery is going flat if you haven't had it replaced
since you bought the machine.

Have fun,
Shay
