2017-01-19 Thread Daniel Kerr
Will do Kevin. (nothing currently).
I’m looking for the older one as it needs to run on 10.9.5. (which Elements 14
did).
At least with yours Elements 15 will run in Sierra and it’s about $160 (as I
looked up my wholesaler to see if they still had 14 around). So if nothing
turns up, and you wanted it, just let me know and I can order it in for you.

But if something turns up, I’ll let you know.

Thanks.

Kind regards

WTB: Photoshop Elements 12, 13 or 14 or Photoshop CS4

2017-01-19 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi All

Just wondered if anyone might have a previous version of software they no
longer wanted and would be interested in selling. (as I’m looking for it for a
client).

I’m looking for either Photoshop Elements 12, 13 or 14 or Photoshop CS4 or CS5
(or perhaps even Creative Suite depending on price).

If you have (or know someone that has) any of the above, if they could contact
me off list that would be appreciated if they are interested in selling it.

Thanks!

Kind regards
Daniel

Yes Susan, Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad has a built-in GPS receiver. And the GPS is
completely separate from the 3G/4G service, so you don’t even have to have an
active data plan for the GPS to work.
You could buy a 3G/4G model iPad, never activate a Cellular service, and still
have GPS data.
(WiFi only iPads do not have a GPS).

Apple doesnt integrate GPS on the Wi-Fi only models, but you can still locate
yourself and use Location Services only if you are connected through Wi-Fi.
The cellular + Wi-Fi models are more precise on GPS as they use cellular
signals to pinpoint accuracy of your location.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: WTB New iPad

2014-03-28 Thread Neil Houghton
There are also free GPS map apps eg:

I had not found these (or bought an iPad) when we last did an overseas trip
- so I don't know how well the UK one works - but I have since downloaded
the Oz & UK ones onto the iPad and the Oz one seems to work well.

One thing to be aware of - each upgrade must involve the whole app (with
maps) so is several hundred MB - so best not to do this on your paid mobile
data allowance ;o) - on the other hand, I assume this means regular map
updates.

I haven't tried it on the phone.

Or, you can take an airport express and, if you have ethernet internet,
create your own local wifi and connect phones & ipad to it.

Certainly the iPad screen size would be better and having a SIM would be

Not sure if you have an iPhone but if you do, then going the TomTom route
allows the driver to windscreen mount the iPhone, turned horizontal makes
a great navigation unit as opposed to buying an additional bespoke 'Garmin
like' device. Must be sure to connect power as pretty battery hungry.

If you do buy the TomTom apps, then you buy once and can get on both
iPhone and iPad assuming the same AppleID.

Just an alternative there for you or even additional to your proposed

With tablets of all varieties, the only internet access is via wireless. With a
small laptop you would have the option of Ethernet.

Hi, yes, I have the tom tom app for australia, and bought other mapping apps
when we were in the Uk and Europe a couple of years ago. Mostly my husband
drives and I navigate. I wear glasses and really appreciate the larger screen.
Using GPS apps rather than google or apple maps does mean not needing the local
SIM card, but price wise for a month of access I would think that the SIM card
is cheaper than buying the mapping apps, which are quite pricey. But, if you
are driving and navigating by voice the iPhone works just as well, I agree. If

Hi Susan. I have bought the TomTom app for Australia ($75) and also USA/Canada

Apart from what is the latest, I would advise an iPad mini. The convenience
of size to slip into a handbag is a huge plus and it is fully functional
compared with the full size iPad. I speak from experience having purchased
our mini for strip to Tasmania last year. I have I microsim paid on a pay as
you go - no contract needed and it talks to 4G.

Hi,

I am looking to buy a Mac compatible webcam, but cannot find anything in

Does anyone have one for sale which will run on 10.5.8 G5?

:o))

MacPro
2x 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon (ie quad core)
14GB RAM
1TB Hard Drive (plus 3 bays Spare)
2x SuperDrive burners
Nvidia GeForce 7300GT 256MB Video Card
All the other normal stuff like Firewire, USB, etc

MacPro
2x 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon (ie Quad Core)

2x SuperDrive (plus 1 bay spare)
Nvidia GeForce 7300GT 256MB Video Card
All the other normal stuff like Firewire, USB, etc

I also have an ex demo 2month old Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. This is the
new current model that has the miniDisplyPort on it. This will only work
with the current range of machines that have miniDisplyPorts.
These retail new for $1499. Am looking for $1100 or offers.
(Note: If you want this to run with a previous model DVI machine, I do
actually have a converter box that will allow it to work. If you're
interested then I'm happy to "work out a package price").

I also have a client that is after a 15" MacBookPro. Reasonable specs, as it
needs to run CS2 or CS3. If anyone has one for sale, or wants to trade or
upgrade to a new laptop, then please contact me. Thanks!! :o)

Please email me off-list if you want more info or are interested.

Thanks.

That machine should accept both a CD-RW or a Combo (DVD-Read/CD-RW)
internally (well, one at a time ;)

How often do you need the machine to read CDs?

You may be better off looking at an external burner either a USB drive
(although I recall that generation was only USB 1.1) or a Firewire
drive... this way the drive can always be used on other machines.

OR you may be better off buying a complete iBook... an iBook G4 can
picked up for around $150 mark these days on eBay... and you'll get
some other benefits (support for Airport Extreme cards, USB2, larger
HD, often more memory, and you can run Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard on later
models)... also first gen MacBooks are around the $500 mark.

And finally, don't forget you can always use Target Disc mode to use
the Optical drive off another machine - insert the CD into the drive
of the "other" machine. Reboot that machine and hold down the T key
until you see the bouncing Firewire logo. Then plug a firewire cable
into that machine and into the iBook... the iBook should now see the
hard drive(s) and the CD from the other machine

Hi Kevin,

From the very useful Mactracker I found the following for your G3 iBook:

Media: Tray-loading 24x CD-ROM or 8x24x10x24x DVD/CD-RW

It would look like the DVD reader was an option possibly.

Kind regards,

MacUser Newsletter Thursday, 3rd April 2008

Dear gary,

Welcome to the latest edition of the MacUser weekly newsletter.

Apple and Adobe are going head to head right
now. While Apple updates Aperture to version
2.1, with support for the kind of plug-ins that
will make it a competitor to Photoshop, Adobe
has announced a public beta of Lightroom 2.

Cisco says that the number of Macs used in
businesses doubled last year, but it's not all
good news for Apple, as it could soon find
itself back in court, accused of misleading
customers over the number of colours the 20in
iMac can display.

All of these stories and more are covered in full through the links below.

Best regards

Which brand of powerline adapter are you using? I've got three Netgear
units and while they're great when they're working, I've had them less
than a year and had to replace two of them under warranty so far. Having
said that, there's no doubt they provide a far better network than
wireless.

Have you considered an ethernet over powerline adaptor? There are a few
available, and a number of configuration options including a wireless access
point. The simplest is an ethernet to ethernet plug pair which you can
extend to wherever you have a power point (or an extension cord!). Just add
more modules to go to another room. I managed to set one up in about ten
minutes, and it saved me having to crawl through the ceiling with another
cat 5 cable! This may save you the vagaries of wireless, and the need to go
and get the USB adaptor every time you need it. Murphy's law states it will

Hi Josh,

Yeah, main attractions of a USB adaptor for me are:

1) Easy to swap between two computers (both are 2nd computers so we won't
want to use both simultaneously)
2) Should? have a better wireless range so handle the brick/granite walls
better.

Ebay have a few original airports for sale - the one that closes first is
currently up to $33 (+$5 postage) and closes in 19hours:

I guess the "flakiness" or otherwise is what I was trying to gauge with my

WTB: Apple ADC to DVI Adapter

2007-11-29 Thread Gavin Tweedie
Hi,
First time poster, sorry if this isn't appropriate but I saw similar
requests on the list archives.

I'm looking for an Apple ADC to DVI adapter (the type that supplies
power as well) to connect an apple 20" cinema display to a PC with DVI
output. It seems nobody has these in stock so I'm hoping someone has an
old one lying around they'd like to sell.

Please contact me offlist. Thankyou!

Hi All,

A friend of mine is looking to buy a second hand Mac.
Minimum CPU: 800 MHz.
Slower Dual G4s and even G5s might be OK too depending on
specification versus price.

He is looking to spend somewhere around $500-$800.

Thanks, avagoodweekend :-)

Hi Robert,

Thanks, this is great as I was wondering which of the models above mine
have this issue.

Most useful along with this page:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86802

I once did the 'swap' for a client who had been given the quieter
replacement power supply and fan by Apple.
If it was 15% more quiet I'll nip the end off my magnetic screwdriver
with my teeth ;-)
It was still easily audible in the next room, this poor client had
bought it to record his excellent acoustic guitar playing and singing.

He bought a digital recorder to side step the noise.

I'm OK with the OS9 thing as the current G4, if I keep it, is a good
OS9/ProTools-Free machine.

WTB: Powermac

2007-06-23 Thread Paul Kitchener

Hi all,

We've finally stretched our DP 450 G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) too far.
It's a great computer but it isn't really cutting it anymore :-(

We have looked into upgrades but it's power supply is quite noisy and
has also shown signs that it might fail, it's trickle down power in
particular.
We could use a PC power supply but this means using a PC case too, not
ideal but a possibility nonetheless.
Has anyone cpu-upgraded a dualie? Does the slower system bus still hold
it back?
I would also install a Sonnet PCI SATA controller and hard drives which
I have done before for others and highly recommend.

So we are looking into getting another Dualie as even a G5 single would
'seem' like a backwards step.
If anybody wishes to come to the defence of 'mono' PowerMacs I'd be
pleased to hear I'm being too fussy, there is the price to consider
after all.

So *ideally* I'm looking for a Dual G5 PowerMac circa $1000, whether
this is realistic I'm not sure.

I guess my minimum is a Dual 1 GHz G4.

If anyone has been down this road recently I'd love to hear how you
fared and maybe what you learned.

If I ever built a G4 with a PC power supply and case I promise that I'll
bring it to a WAMUG meeting ;-)

WTB: DVI to ADV converter (the squid looking one not the dongral)

Does anybody have an DVI to ADC converter laying around - that's the
$250ish unit that goes from a DVI connector at the back of the
computer (and has a usb and power supply) and allows you to connect a

... not the $50 straight through ADC (at back of computer) to DVI

no need to purchase immediately but looking for one in the near (1

2007-01-24 Thread Rod Lavington
Hi All!

I've got that Newton bug again :-) Anybody have one gathering dust in a
cupboard that they would like to sell/swap? Eg. I have a Compaq Armada M700
laptop 700Mhz P3/320Meg/12Gig HD/DVDROM/14" display with psu and a good
battery (2+ hours). Have run Ubuntu Linux on it, and it runs sweetly!

Would swap the Compaq for a 2100 (or upgraded 2000) with accessories.
Rechargeable battery condition isn't an issue, but must have the power
supply.

Re: CD OSX.3 (or 4) WTB

2006-10-23 Thread Neil Houghton
Hi David,

Don't know if this would work with OSX but, if it's just firewire which is
damaged, have you tried installing over ethernet?

I seem to remember I did this to install apps which I only had on floppy
disc when I got my G4 powerbook (with no floppy drive).

I installed the software from my (much) older mac, which didn't have
firewire but did have ethernet.

The G4 was running OS9 and from memory, I just mounted the G4 disc on the
old machine & then just selected the appropriate folder when asked where I
wanted to install.

I haven't had cause to try it under OSX though.

Hope that helps.

Can anyone sell me a CD version of OSX.3 or x.4?

Have an older machine which needs it and has no dvd drive.

Tried going over Firewire, no joy, firewire appears to be damaged.

Apple store insisted they had to send me the DVD and then I had to
send it back to them before they would send me the CDs! - person on
phone appreciated how ludicrous that was but insisted there was no
way around it. So I either wait 2 weeks which I don't have, or...

OK !

says it can run Tiger ...

See here :-

On the other hand , in the Xpostfacto information , some problems are
being experienced

with a Clamshell without FIREWIRE see here :-
