I enjoy watching lots of the old TV shows. George Lindsey had some very good acting parts on shows such as the Twilight Zone Alfred Hitchcock Presents. What Maybe Means to Me by George Lindsey (from Goober in a Nutshell BY Ken Beck and Jim Clark, 1995) Mayberry is going to church on Sunday, and then after church going to the drugstore for a cherry Coke. It's sitting around the barber shop reading the sports page, and getting a shoe shine, and listening to Fred and Spooky tell their corny jokes. It's goin' to the wrestlin' matches on Saturday night, or maybe to the county line for a beer or two. It's sitting in your car on Main Street watching the people pass, when there's nothing else to do. It's shelling corn and making quilts, and sometimes there's a remnant sale. It's getting a call in the middle of the night, to get a good buddy out of jail. It's book satchels and cloak rooms and notes from your mother when you're late to school. It's getting a basketball for Christmas, and practicing the Golden Rule. It's getting one of those Parker pen and pencil sets for high school graduation, Or, if you're a girl, it's always Evening in Paris perfume. It's being scared to ask that special girl to dance at the senior prom; That happens every June. Oh, it's trying to learn to smoke cigarettes and dip snuff and chew tobacco, and you get so sick you think you're gonna die. It's trying to get somebody to show you how to make a Windsor know, in your daddy's brand new Sunday tie. It's everything and everybody, and when you talk about it you get that very, very special itch, but the think that I like about Mayberry, most of all, IT'S MADE OL' GOOBER RICH! Hey, Mayberry friends. I saw a great interview with 'Goober' on Ralph Emery last night from 1997. He talked about his career, his book and working on TAGS and Hee Haw. His favorite thing from the 'Griffith show' was working with Andy and Howard McNear. His favorite thing from Hee Haw?.the girls. Such a nice and interesting man. (a real Prince.) About being typecast as a country bumpkin he says Well, I am one. He may be George Lindsey but he'll always be 'Goober' to me. Hope everyone has a great Mayberry weekend. When we visited with James Best last week he told us he appeared in some of the old Alfred Hitchcock Hour programs. I found one he was in this weekend and watched it. It was a really treat because our good friend Goober was also in it in a rather dramatic role. The lead role was played by Mr. Haney from Green Acres. Sure wish good old Newton Monroe would pass through town so I could do some shopping. Thought about a septic tank, but we are on the city services so can't use that. I just received notification that the Hee Haw Show featuring George Lindsey has been cancelled at the Crystal Grand Theatre in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. It was to be on November 11, and no reason was given for the cancellation. Needless to say I am very disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing Goober in person. Also I received notification that the Hawthorne Mayberry Christmas Village would not be shipped until December 3. This too is a change, so not sure if those of us who ordered will be able to have all the buildings by Christmas. I would suspect probably not as they were going to ship them one at a time over a period of weeks. Again no reason was given for the change. Kenneth G.
