[WestNileNet] Terms of Reference for the Task Force

2009-03-10 Thread Caleb Alaka
Father George, welcome on board,

Father Ruffino, I believe we need a draft TOR as soon as practicable. So far if
I am not mistaken, the consensus on the membership seems to be as Follows,
Father Ruffino, Chairperson, Members; Ambassador Achema Harold, Andua Drani,
Caleb Alaka. I would suggest Miss Buatru and another sister.  We can get other
names. Meanwhile members can also contribute to our terms of reference. Please
this is the beginning of a long but short Journey. Mundua, Ejiku, Andema,
Obetia, and the rest what is your take on the same. If it is possible Father
George should also become a member of the task force.

Dear All,

I do believe Fr. George already working on a similar endeavour would be a
handy resource on the Task force. I would therefore suggest that he too be
added on the team.

Hi Caleb,

Thank you for your mail. You are right we need to move the process forward.
Much has been said, less has been done. It is time to start acting. We should
quickly agree on the number of the task force. Some had mention seven as an
ideal number but my view would that the task force should have more than seven
people for pragmatic reasons. Father Rofino should generate a draft work plan
or schedule and share it with members of the task force before publishing it to
the rest of us for more input. While you, Caleb should volunteer to work on the
terms of reference for the task force and share the terms of reference with the
task force before making it public for further discussion. After soliciting our
input on the work plan and the terms of reference, the task force should
proceed to refine the two documents and table them again for adoption and real
work begins from there. Such is my suggestion for the way forward.

Thank you.

Sam Andema,

This is the pragmatism we are talking about here now. Action and action. I
concur with the specific allocation of duties that you have implicitly done
in you posting a few minutes ago so that the forum gets some working
documents to propel action in this noble cause.

What I would only add is to have a set time frame of about to get the
drafts posted for wider input of views in refining the two
documents. Caleb should really be able to come with a draft in even two days
time to guide workflow of the Task force.

Cheers!

Re: [WestNileNet] Terms of Reference for the Task Force

2009-03-10 Thread ONZOMA APOLLO
Dear all

This appears to be a very good wayforward for the life of all the future
leaders who seem to be finding it very hard to show up academically in the
environment at home. Am sure if we adopt a very thorough approach and start
with serious consultation with the people normally involved in setting exams
and marking.

This is because they seem to be knowing the trend of the changes coming up but
have no fora for sharing the challenges of the current education and even if
they do then the impact may not be much felt. So in addition to thinking about
the teachers, parents, and other levels of importance in education, i have a
feeling that the key persons in dertermination of the results (i.e. examiners
and markers at various levels) should be pulled together and share with us the
challenges and this becomes a very good stage for begining.

It is always difficult to understand why those receiving teaching on the same
syllabus, and text books and from qualified teachers may not be able to pass or
pass at levels that varry so much when we compare to other regions, though the
differences in the economic situations have some roles to play, there could be
other ways that the fora could come in to address the existing challenges.

I commend the initiators of the fora and i believe that it will contribute alot
to the reduction of the gap in overall performance of our region compared to
the others.

Let the struggle continue

Does anyone know if Dr Modest Odama has accepted to come? He is teaching at

Can anyone in Kampala/Entebbe be able to call on him?

[WestNileNet] Task Force

2009-03-10 Thread Vasco Oguzua

Hi to you all. The different and diverse views this forum is generating is
breathe-taking to read, especially, they are all coming from the sons and
daughters of the region. I feel confident we have the human resources fron West
Nile who can turn around the pathetic and chaotic situation we are experiencing
in our region. This is our time to make a mark in the history of the region -
to take advantage of a bad and sorry situation and and get something very good
and memorable to the future generation.
Our problems are many but interrelated and as such we need to have an
intergrated approach to it. The task force is where we begin. We need to expand
the task force to perhaps upto 11 or 13 people with different and various
background. We need to include women (2 to 3 at least), youth (2 to 3 we need
to let our youths start to learn from us the older generation), local business
people.

I am sure many of you know amongst yourselves from home, people who have the
ability to critically look and evaluate issues, research, collect and analyze
data, are effective participants, take initiatives and have the ability to
motivate. Critical thinking and ability to integrate in a wider perspective the
issues in our region as a whole is very vital for the Task force. I would
suggest Fr. George Ezatirale and Jimmy Adriko or Tabu Butagira be included in
the Task Force because we shall need some journalists to help in disseminating
some of the activities we are about to embark on in the newspapers.

Thanks,

Vasco Oguzua

Dear all
We have just lost Mr Peter Edema Etima who passed away in Mulago Hospital
yesterday night. I blessed his wedding myself last year on June 28, 2008 and
now he is no more.
Let's keep close to the family of Mr Joseph Etima in this trying moment.
There will be a requiem mass at catholic centre on friday at 3 pm, then the
body will be taken to onzivu (near awindiri). The burial will take place in
Otumbari on saturday afternoon.

Father George, welcome on board,

Father Ruffino, I believe we need a draft TOR as soon as

Members; Ambassador Achema Harold, Andua Drani, Caleb Alaka. I would

Meanwhile members can also contribute to our terms of reference.
