Works (date columns only in this example), but could use improvement.
Are there more details on {{#property}} somwhere?
It doesn't do more than what you already have. If you want to do more
elaborate things you'll need to resort to Lua. We can think about
expanding the parser function. There were plans for this at the
beginning of the project. But for now we've tried to keep it simple.

Thanks so much for the feedback. That was useful. We'll rework the page to make it not time-out as it currently does on larger wikis. The way we'll go for to achieve this is by sorting the pages by page-id rather than page-title. That should also make it relatively easy to find the newest or oldest pages depending on which you're working on. We'll also provide a filter for the namespace but that might come a bit later. And I'm not talking about internal PHP code only - there's a lot of tools out there that neither WMF nor WMDE maintains. It's one thing to make new service (which btw I think is an awesome idea, just wanted to say it so that it would be clear than I am not criticizing the whole idea, just this aspect of it) and another add subtle changes to an existing one. Yeah there are a lot of those indeed. The assumptions around entities need to go away anyway as we are tackling Commons support. So we'll have to bite that bullet one way or another. The address Dear Colleague sent to this mailing list is giving it away, I know, but for less obvious cases, a good general guideline is to avoid research conferences that ask you to pay for each paper you publish there. Legit research events decouple paper selection from financial aspects to avoid the impression that you are paying for the acceptance of your work. This conference even charges students more if they have a paper accepted. In all reputed conferences I know of, it is usually the other way around: scholarships are available to support students, and student authors have a higher chance of getting such support. Will ban. Hey folks :) You're absolutely right that we need to focus on a few other things first (UI redesign, units, queries, arbitrary access, data quality tools incl watchlist improvements). However we also need to look into the future. Wiktionary support needs a lot of input to make sure we're doing the right thing. And it's good to give that time. So please do read the latest proposal Denny posted. It even has some mockups to make it easier to understand what it'd look like in practice. If we can get rough consensus that this is the way forward things will fall into place. And we'll not abandon the things I mentioned that are right now more important. [Wikidata-l] Arbitrary access is coming to the first wikis
Hey folks :)
When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects
there is currently a limitation in place which hinders some use cases.
Data can only be accessed from the corresponding item. So for example
the article about Berlin can only get data from the item about Berlin
but not from the item about Germany. This had technical reasons. On
Monday we will remove this limitation on the first wikis. This will be
Dutch Wikipedia and French Wikisource. (More will follow over the next
weeks. We hope to have it rolled out nearly everywhere by the end of
June.) We invite you to play around with this new feature if you are
one of the people who have been waiting for this for a long time. If
you have technical issues/questions with this you can come to

A note of caution: Please be careful with how many items you use for a
single page. If it is too many page loading might get slow. We will
have to see how the feature behaves in production to see where we need
to tweak and how.

Hey folks :) Pasleim has created a nice new patrolling tool to help with vandalism and spam fighting. Here's their announcement text: Hey. [Wikidata-l] Please help test next step for header redesign
Hey folks :) We've been working on completely rewriting the header section and moving it towards the new design. We're not there yet but the next step is ready for testing and then rolling out on Wikidata. Please go ahead and test it thoroughly at http://wikidata.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Q27946. This will allow you to collapse the in other languages box for example and adds a hint about how to configure the displayed languages. The remaining known issues are tracked at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T75654. In addition to the new header the next deployment will bring a lot of under-the-hood changes and bug fixes. The most relevant changes for you are: * we made the diff for time values more meaningful * we fixed a lot of bugs in the time datatype * edit links are no longer cached incorrectly based on the users permission (This lead to users sometimes seeing edit buttons on pages that they could not edit and no edit buttons on pages that they could edit.) * we fixed some issues with propagating page moves and deletions on the clients (Wikipedia, etc) to Wikidata * we corrected an issue where you would see new data in the old part of a diff (This affected qualifiers mainly.) * the sitetointerwiki gadget now also works on diff pages * the precision is now detected correctly when entering a quantity in scientific notation * we added mailto as an accepted protocol for the URL datatype Unless you find big issues during testing we plan to deploy this on Wikidata on 24th of March. However, the situation is considerably worse in the XML dumps, which have

still not the same as in the JSON dumps. A large part of the records in the
XML dump is broken because of the map-vs-list issue.
For example, the latest dump of current revisions [2] has countless
instances of the problem. The first is in the item Q3261 (empty list for
claims), but you can easily find more by grepping for things like
quot;claimsquot;:[]
It seems that all empty maps are serialized wrongly in this dump (aliases,
descriptions, claims, ...). In contrast, the site's export simply omits the
key of empty maps entirely, see

The JSON in the JSON dumps is the same.

Unfortunately the whole Wikimedia dumps infrastructure has a bus
factor of 1 and this became an issue over the last months.

I am also interested in solving this for the article placeholder feature where we show date from Wikidata when no local article exists. We can't really just put the link to the non existent article into the Wikidata item because the article might be created and then cover a completely unrelated topic. We already have this problem with red links on Wikipedia but it would be even worse on Wikidata. I think the way to go is to have the Wikidata identifier used in the link on the article. Question is how to do that nicely. I am happy to see the template experiment. Are people generally ok with the way it works? Hey folks :) People have been bugging me for a while now about this so I started a page to gather input. If you are searching for a topic on a Wikipedia for example but it doesn't have an article about it then we can look at Wikidata and see if there is a matching item for that topic. If we have data about it on Wikidata then we can show some kind of placeholder. But how should this look like and work? Hey folks :) We just enabled statements on properties. You can for example use this to: * describe mappings to other projects' vocabularies * indicate constraints for the usage of this property (currently stored in templates on the talk page of the property) * store information about where this property is used in other projects to make sure they can be notified when major changes are made to how the property is used * provide links to extensive documentation about and showcases for the usage of this property * store patterns for how an identifier should be expanded to form a proper URL * ... Some notes: * You can't yet make statements linking to other properties to for example indicate that property X is the inverse of property Y. We are adding a new datatype for that. It'll come soon. The ticket for that is https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T75302 * Constraint violation reports currently don't take these statements into account. They will continue to use the templates on the property's talk page. A team of students is currently working on overhauling the whole constraint system. It'll take them a while still though. Unrelated but also important for you to know: If a page is deleted on Wikipedia/Commons/... that has a sitelink in an item on Wikidata that link will be removed automatically now.
