Two decodes of the same signal, the main signal and a reflected one, the
station is worked before, one decode is grey, the other is green (he's
calling CQ). This is FT8 on 6M. I saw it on successive cycles.

We have mentioned numerous times that we are a tiny development group,
all volunteers, we have lives beyond ham radio, and our priorities may
not be tthe same as yours.

By necessity we prioritize items that according to one or more users
"need to be fixed" in our software. The list also includes items
classified as new protocols, new features, etc.

We do what's necessary to ensure that WSJT-X runs equally well under
Windows, Linux, and macOS. We make sure that (with certain
restrictions) the source code is freely available for anyone to copy,
modify, and adapt to their own needs. We find that most who take
advantage of our open-source policy keep in touch with us, honor our own
wishes as principal developers. In the very best "ham spirit", many
have contributed improvements back to the core developers. All of this
takes considerable organization on our part.

We often give new protocols/features the highest development priorities,
because we (and you) can live with minor cosmetic issues like the one
you report. If we did not proceed in this way, program capabilities
like FT8 and FT4 would simply not exist.

If you need fully polished, professional quality software for your
particular computer and operating system, you may need to look elsewhere.

[wsjt-devel] Decoding ALL FT8 signals

2019-07-15 Thread Rich Zwirko - K1HTV
As some may have heard, a program is being developed which will allow
unsighted Hams to make FT8 QSOs. Today the topic of decoding signals on the
WSJT-X waterfall came up for discussion in the QLog Beta testers group.

I posted this info, which I'd like to share with the many who subscribe to
the WSJT-X Development Group reflector. Unless you have read the WSJT-X
manual, you might not be aware that only signals in the displayed frequency
range of the Wide Graph or the waterfall as many call it, will be decoded.

Most know that the lowest frequency decoded is set by changing the value in
'Start XXX Hz' box. However, many do NOT know that the highest frequency
decoded is affected by the box titled "Bins/Pixel". If you have set the
'Start Frequency' to zero Hertz and set the 'Bins/Pixel' to 1, the highest
frequency decoded will only be 1000 Hz. If you increase the 'Bins/Pixel'
value to 2, signals will be only be decoded from 0 to 2000 Hz. Since many
FT8 signals use tones above 2000 Hz, the minimum "Bins/Pixel" setting
should be 3. However, the full 3000 Hz can only be decoded if the right
wall of the Wide Graph window is fully widened to actually display out to
3000 Hz. Beware that even if the 'Bins/Pixel' is set to 3, if the far right
wall of the Wide Graph window wall is dragged to the left so the Wide Graph
displays only 0 to 1000 Hz is shown, only signals in that range will be
decoded.

The bottom line is that unless the full range of frequencies is displayed
in the Wide Graph, you will not decode all stations transmitting in the
full FT8 channel. And don't forget that using the high and low DSP roll off
controls on your radio will also limit the audio frequencies that WSJT-X
can decode.

Hi Dave,

a patch or pull request would be welcome if you have come across issues
that need fixing.

The easiest way to get around the a2x issue is to set the WSJT-X CMake
options to skip the manpage and documentation builds. Configure CMake
with these extra options:

-D WSJT_SKIP_MANPAGES=ON -D WSJT_GENERATE_DOCS=OFF

That will save you a lot of time, trouble, and disk space. Note this
exactly how it is suggested to build from the source tarball of WSJT-X
in this file:

https://sourceforge.net/p/wsjt/wsjtx-superbuild/ci/master/tree/INSTALL

that is packaged in that source tarball.

Hi Dave,

you like some other authors seem to have started a project that uses a
UDP feed that was never intended to be for any other application than
N1MM Logger+, in fact one of their team members contributed the change
to implement the feed. The WSJT-X UDP message protocol does the same and
much more and most importantly is documented as publicly available and
supported. It is a little more complex to use as it is a many to many
protocol allowing many applications to interoperate with many instances
of WSJT-X. You do not need to rush with any changes you make, you
exiting code will still work with WSJT-X v2.1.x versions, but I
recommend that you consider migrating to use the WSJT-X UDP message
protocol at some point.

Hi Dave,

the WSJT-X UDP message protocol is backwards compatible, if you do not
need the new messages then they can be safely ignored and any new fields
on existing messages are always added at the end so you can also safely
ignore any excess fields that you do not require.

Of course this does depend on your software actually using the WSJT-X
UDP message protocol, see my other reply above.

The changes resulted from several developer requests and also include
some new messages and fields to be both consistent and complete. No
GridTracker was not one of the requesters although the author(s)  of
that application are of course welcome to make use of these changes.

you should be aware that the UDP feed that was added to WSJT-X for N1MM

removed in a later version of WSJT-X. N1MM Logger+ now uses the UDP

its content is identical to the ADIF records sent to the deprecated N1MM

[wsjt-devel] New library required for building: qt5-linguist

2019-07-15 Thread Dave Slotter, W3DJS
Dev team:

There appears to be a new requirement to build under Ubuntu 16.xx. CMake
seems to now require Qt5LinguistTools in order to build, whereas that was
not required in earlier release candidate builds of 2.1.0.

Where do I get this library to satisfy CMake? (Thanks in advance.)

Output below:

Hi Dave,

as always the latest UDP message protocol is documented here:

The user manual only says under the change notes, "UDP messaging for
inter-program communication". (Is there some other change-notes I could
have read?)

My software may be found at: https://github.com/dslotter/wsjtx_to_n3fjp/

Re: [wsjt-devel] WSJT-X 2.1.0 64-bit GA release: TX audio level has changed

2019-07-15 Thread Hasan al-Basri
Yes, same here, my power slider now has to be set at maximum to just barely
tickle the ALC on my TS-590sg. Not a problem, just different from some of
the prior versions...in fact a recent debug version showed the same
characteristic, requiring power slider to be at max with Speaker Output
level at 0 dB.

Again, not a problem, just a change in behavior. Program (64 bit Win10) is
doing very, very well on both fT8 and FT4

Will try msk144 on 6m in the morning.

Many thanks to all the people involved in this project to provide the
new WSJT-X GA.

I successfully built the binary from source on my OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
and I'm testing the new WSJT-X, despite the almost dead band conditions.

Just keep in mind it may be tomorrow before they make it into the testing
repository, hence the reason for the link. You can see the status is
currently "Pending"

Once in testing then the usual "dnf --enablerepo=updates-testing update

2019-07-15 Thread DG2YCB, Uwe
For comparison I am running the 32-bit and the 64-bit version of WSJT-X v2.1.0
GA concurrently. PWR sliders of both versions are set to about 50% (= -20.1 dB
transmit digital gain). To reach in both cases the same TX PWR output at my
Yaesu FT-991 I have to increase Windows Volume Control from 7 for all the
32-bit versions (and for 64-bit until 2.1.0-rc7) to about 80 for the new 64-bit
GA release of WSJT-X. Although with that the audio level can be adjusted, this
means a big difference in digital audio gain between the two versions. What may
cause this difference? Is there another bug in QT 5.12.4? Or might there be a
defect in the new 64-bit GA version of 2.1.0?

[wsjt-devel] v2.1.0 GA 64 bit problems

2019-07-15 Thread WB5JJJ
I uninstalled all previous versions of WSTJx, OpenSSL 32bit and deleted the
"extra" folders I created when running the rc's and rebooted the computer
before installing the 64bit version and found the following:

1) on EVERY start the screen locations on monitor #2 and #3 are NOT
remembered. It always wants to start everything on Monitor #1 instead. I
moved, resized the screens, shut WSJTx down and restarted the program.
Again all screens were the wrong size, wrong place and even the main screen
was off the side of my main #1 monitor.
2) found that the Win32OpenSSL_Light-1_1_1c.exe was still required even
with the 64bit WSJTx install.
3) the frequency selector drop down always shows up for an instant on the
#1 screen before relocating to the #2 screen where the main program is
located, and the frequency information is still truncated.

I uninstalled the 64bit version, rebooted the computer and installed the
32bit version and it remembered my program locations on screen #2 and #3 as
always. Went back to the start and reinstalled 64bit version and again the
locations were no longer remember.

Other than these problems, the 64bit seems to work very nicely.

Subject: [wsjt-devel] WSJT-X 2.1.0: GA release

The WSJT Development Group is pleased to announce the general availability
(GA) release of WSJT-X Version 2.1.0.

WSJT-X 2.1 is a major upgrade that introduces FT4, a new protocol for HF
contesting. Improvements have also been made in the following areas:

   - FT8 waveform generation using GMSK, fully backward compatible
   - user options for low-sidelobe waterfall and spectrum display
   - UDP messaging for inter-program communication

Compile went through ok (with many warnings).
At install phase appears error:

CMake Error at cmake_install.cmake:289 (file):
  file INSTALL cannot find
  "/home/saku/wsjtx-prefix/src/RIGCTLCOM_EXE-NOTFOUND".

How ever the most important wsjt-x itself gets installed anyway and
seems to work ok so far.

[wsjt-devel] 2.1 GA and MacOS 10.15

2019-07-15 Thread George Molnar
For the Mac users out there —

Version 2.1 has crashed on my Mac running 10.15 beta. Runs fine on the other
machine on 10.13.6.

Have corresponded a few times with Bill (G4WJS) off-list. He’s looking into it.

Take appropriate precautions if you try the new version.

Hi!

Web page says:

Install to Fedora 29 says:

Problem: conflicting requests
  - nothing provides libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.29)(64bit) needed by
wsjtx-2.1.0-1.x86_64
  - nothing provides libreadline.so.8()(64bit) needed by
wsjtx-2.1.0-1.x86_64

(try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages)

I strongly suspect that rpm is for Fedora 30

F 29 users must do it with self compile from source (as I had to do also
with rc-versions)
