I would only add that AO notes that since the DEMF, Detroit won't pay
to see the music. But it's not like it was much different before the DEMF.
I gave up on trying to see the music live. Anytime there is a big (or even
little)
techno show you end up waiting hours to get in, or you show up
Here is my research on this. Looks like Derrick tried to (R) the trademark,
but didn't finish.
If anyone is in contact with they ought to make sure that he knows they were
asking for more info...
Still, the name isn't important - the music and the location is.
Details are below.

abandon. Getting a registered trademark is fairly involved in certain
respects. Anyhow, it would have been the lawyer's job to handle this, right?

Anyone know if this is the real LFO and not that crappy boy band?
I assumed it was the boy band, but it does seem odd that they'd be at Metro
on this particular bill. Have the kids finally dissed them

If you have time wheels there are a couple of nice vegetarian restaurants

OM Cafe - not everyone's fave, but I really used to like this place. It's

In Season - a nice veg restaurant in Royal Oak. Often times
The Laboratoire mix CD is probably my fave mix CD of all

a damn close second). I've found it's especially good

speaking of rip, rig and panic, is anyone here familiar with float-up cp?
I'm a huge pop group/rip rig panic/pigbag/new age steppers fan but have
found NO float-up cp records. If anyone knows of in-print CD comps with
some float-up cp let me know - I've had no luck finding the vinyl after 10
Ladyfest Midwest has a pretty amazing bill. Rather than stick to
the usual folksinger format they've booked some amazing
talent like ESG and Detroit's own DJ Minx.

Funny that you should mention this because Derrick May had some serious
affection for Chicago and its sound before he embarked upon techno. Derrick
frequently went to Chicago, both for records and clubbing. Who has heard of
a club called The Bismarck? Apparently Lil' Louis played there a lot and
I think Emma Goldman said it best, If I can not dance, I want no part in your

'Anything that has to do with techno' is too broad. IMO, 313 is
specifically about Detroit and Detroit-related techno and house, not
about software, gear, cars, drugs, etc.
So *that* is why Ford is so insistent on telling us the Focus is
Detroit Techno. It will really break their hearts to
he had gotten ahold of a cd titled 'legendary voices of black radio', as a

never came. does anyone have more info?
Wasn't that a project of Monica
Was wondering if any of you are checking out the new Ken Burns' documentary,
called Jazz on PBS?
Yep!
I'm also wondering what it'll say about Jazz in regards to influencing
techno, if any.
Probably *nothing*. It pretty much ignores JAZZ of the last 40 years, never
mind
jazz influenced genres.
Don't forget that the Ford web site was using Derrick May last year
in their Flash.
Anyhow I'd rather have No UFO's doing its magic to promote an
economy car like the Focus than say some monster Cayonero-type SUV.
And the three door Focus does kinda look like a spaceship...
At any rate it is
A couple of weeks back USA today mentioned that Ford was giving the Focus (their
new compact car) to various DJ's and promoters to help make the image of the car
cooler (the only Ford that has a young image is the mustang).
Think Derrick got a free car??
Ah, marketing...
