stormed off, and another time one got really pissed off as I questioned whether
he had correctly added up a pile of records (he was right

i thought MVE in soho were fine, but the guys in the notting hill
one - they
act like you want to start a fight with them. obviously
their filing and
talking to each other and listening to the football is more
important than

they won't haggle either.. ever!! (They still have some rare records or
bargains though to be found)

Reckless in name and in nature - erratic prices, erratic
Just to add to the other excellent suggestions, Sounds of the Universe on
Broadwick Street (just around the corner from Berwick Street) is one of my
favourite London record shops - great range of stock from jazz, funk, soul
and disco to house, techno, electro and IDM, friendly staff, nice shop
and reckless soul and dance basement in angel - i love that place.
some staff are moody but some of them are really cool

Working in a record shop makes you moody - you don'start out that way!
The amount of stupid questions you get asked would test the patience of a
saint.

Working at HMV one summer, I got asked by this large, middle aged guy if we
had the song that went with a particular line-dance, he then proceeded to do
the dance in front of me and all the customers.

couldn't agree more...i used to work in the afore mentioned soul exchange
in notting hill. some of the * you have to deal

But being part of the ambient scene, we didn't really do impatient,
just disinterested... :)

I highly recommend Smallfish on Old St. Good listening equipment (last I was
there) and super nice people! There are also loads of used shops worth
checking if you have the time and are up for a dig.
cheers
