The answer to this particular question is probably not all that
informative. Whether or not your are running a "typical" scenario
is less important than whether you are running a scenario that

I don't quite understand what you mean that the 3494 does not have
SAN capability. You can most certainly use a 3494 in a SAN environment.
The SAN is where the data movement happens. The 3494 'just' puts tapes into
the drives and manages the library inventory. Only your drives need to be

Unfortunately that can't be done. You can not archive inactive copies of

Also give thought to "Is there enough time allocated to reclamation?"
Do a scan of the actlog to make sure there isn't something preventing
successfull offsite reclamation. An onsite tape with errors or in
unavailable status will play havoc with reclamations both offsite and
onsite.
You state that you are running reclamation. What is the reclamation
threshold on your offsite copypool being set to? Check the status of your
offsite tapes. If the Pct Util for a volume is less than that of your
reclamation threshold, those volumes should be reclaimed(emptied) when you

Hi Wilfredo ,
if you are sure that problem with throughput is in tapes you should check
tapeiobufs setting in your server

use some extra memory.
I recommend to check q db f=d - cache hit and region size in the same time.
Adolph, the drives are Escon connections. We have two (2) channels to the
controller. There is not anyone using
the tape drives at the same time.
Thanks again

You didn't mention which model of 3590 drive. The B models have a maximum

are the drives attached to your OS/390 system? Are you using TSM compression

We also have serveral 3494s. I would also recommend them. It was my
