They're saying that as-is (with a 600+ mile range), the Roadster will be around 4000lbs, compared to the GT's 3300 and the Z06's 3500. It's not too hard to imagine a lower-range unit that is considerably lighter (the batteries alone are supposed to be close to 1800lbs). Point taken on the road car

Normal insurance won't cover any vehicle on a race track. You have to buy specialized insurance, which I'm sure would be crazy expensive. It would be more economical to buy the new Ford GT350R ($500k) or the new Corvette Z06 ($120k)... mainly because they are the two fastest track cars
