You are correct, the first time TOC is triggered by having three or more

I tried the editor and it looks good. Two limitations I did see with it. First
is that formulas require TeX markup, which would be difficult for newbies. And
the second is the ability to insert characters such as Greek letters.

Most of the projectors I have worked with can simply be plugged into the
computer the same as with a monitor. The only thing I have ever had to
configure is sometimes the monitor section in xorg.conf, but that is usually
not necessary. If possible try the projector before hand.
